Israeli Soldier Dies by Suicide at Sde Teiman Base
ISRAELI MEDIA: Haaretz newspaper has confirmed that a Golani Brigade soldier died by suicide this week, shooting himself at the Sde Teiman base in the Negev desert.
The newspaper added that the soldier took his own life after being interrogated by the military police. It noted that the soldier had left the Gaza Strip to attend a refresher course and military police investigators were awaiting him regarding a prior investigation.
According to the report, the soldier’s commanders decided to confiscate his weapon after the interrogation. Hours later, he took a comrade’s weapon and shot himself.

Israeli Channel 12 obtained and broadcast a leaked surveillance video allegedly showing Israeli soldiers sexually assaulting a Palestinian prisoner at the Sde Teiman detention centre in the Negev desert.

An Israeli soldier died by suicide earlier this week at the army's Sde Teiman base in southern Israel, hours after being questioned by Military Police over an ongoing investigation.
The soldier, serving in the Golani Brigade, had returned from combat in the Gaza Strip for a break at the base, where military investigators were waiting for him regarding a probe launched about a month earlier.
After being investigated, his commanders confiscated his weapon. In the early hours of the following morning, he took a fellow soldier's rifle while the latter was asleep and fatally shot himself. He left behind a suicide note.
The investigation was not related to his conduct during the war, and contrary to rumors circulating on social media, he was not being probed for abuse or harm to Palestinians.
A close friend of the soldier was among the seven troops killed late last month when an explosive device ~~attached to~~ dropped down the open hatch of an armored personnel carrier detonated near Khan Yunis in southern Gaza.
Military sources told Haaretz the IDF believes the suicide was tied to the ongoing investigation but has not ruled out the possible impact of his friend's death on his mental state.
"An investigation has been opened into the incident, and its findings will be submitted to the Military Advocate General for review," the IDF said in a statement.
The soldier's name was not included in the list of war casualties cleared for publication, under the army's policy of withholding the names of troops who did not die in combat, operational accidents or from rocket fire at Israel.
