France Opens Criminal Investigation into Elon Musk’s X Over Alleged Algorithm Bias and Foreign Interference

In January, the cybercrime unit of the Paris prosecutor’s office received two formal complaints, submitted respectively by a member of the French parliament and a senior official at a French public institution, Beccuau said, adding that both complaints alleged that X’s algorithm had been exploited for the purpose of foreign interference.

The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed in February that it was examining these complaints, before announcing on Friday that it had opened the investigation “based on verifications, input from French researchers, and information provided by various public institutions.”

Laurent Buanec, CEO of X France, stated on the platform in January that X “has strict, clear, and public rules aimed at protecting the platform from hate speech,” adding that it “fights disinformation” and that its algorithm “is designed to avoid recommending hateful content.”

According to a report by French newspaper Le Monde, the whistleblower suspects that X has manipulated its content recommendation algorithm to deliberately amplify far-right content and increase the visibility of specific candidates during recent elections in Europe.

Australia Rebuffs Trump As US Demands To Know What Allies Would Do In Taiwan War

The United States has already long been engaged heavily into two war zones it can't control - namely Ukraine and Gaza - and still looks to pivot to a third. A fresh report in Financial Times says the Trump administration is demanding to know what is Pacific allies will do in the event of a war with China over Taiwan.

Specifically the US government has been pressing Japan and Australia to clarify their roles in the event that China moves militarily on Taiwan. Elbridge Colby, US under-secretary of defense for policy, has held meetings with Australian and Japanese officials in recent months with this end in mind.

Colby has made clear in a Sunday statement that he's working on implementing President Donald Trump’s agenda of "restoring deterrence and achieving peace through strength." He outlined that this includes "urging allies to step up their defense spending and other efforts related to our collective defense."

And separately, a US defense official described that the "animating theme" of these recent discussions with allies was "to intensify and accelerate efforts to strengthen deterrence in a balanced, equitable way."

The official was quoted in FT as saying "We do not seek war. Nor do we seek to dominate China itself. What we are doing is ensuring the United States and its allies have the military strength to underwrite diplomacy and guarantee peace."

But Beijing might understandably disagree, given that in recent months it has been confirmed that the US maintains hundreds of Marines in Taiwan, including on its small outlying islands near China's coast, ostensibly for "training" purposes.

We can imagine what Washington's reaction would be if China had PLA troops all over Cuba or even US territory Puerto Rico, in support of a Puerto Rican 'independence movement'.

Japan, which has never had an actual military to speak of after its WW2 defeat, would likely be expected to play host to American troop build-ups and naval fleets.

Dozens arrested after UK brands Palestine Action a ‘terror group’

The organization was banned last month after its members broke into an airbase and vandalized two military planes

More than 70 people were arrested across the UK on Saturday on suspicion of supporting the activist group Palestine Action, which was recently designated a terrorist organization.

The Metropolitan Police said 41 people were arrested in London, where protesters gathered in Parliament Square to demonstrate against Israel’s war in Gaza. Some held signs reading “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action.” Arrests were also made in Manchester, Cardiff, and Leeds.

It has been illegal to be a member of Palestine Action or to show support for the group since Saturday, when the new designation came into effect.

Parliament voted to crack down on the pro-Palestinian group after its activists broke into the Royal Air Force base at Brize Norton in central England in June and sprayed red paint on two military planes used for refueling and transport. The activists claimed at the time that the aircraft supported surveillance flights “in support of Israel’s genocide in Gaza.”

More than 57,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched its military operation in response to the deadly Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.

Elmo's X account HACKED, posts racist, antisemitic messages, promotes crypto

A series of posts on Sunday afternoon from the official Elmo X account included antisemitic language and slurs.

The posts come after memo from the DOJ and FBI's said that Jeffrey Epstein killed himself in prison in 2019 and did not have an "incriminating 'client list,'" or blackmailed powerful elites. MAGA loyalists have been demanding answers and more transparency.

"What’s going on with my 'boys' and, in some cases, 'gals?'" Trump wrote on Truth Social following controversial comments made during a press conference where he said. "They’re all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB! We’re on one Team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening. We have a PERFECT Administration, THE TALK OF THE WORLD, and 'selfish people' are trying to hurt it, all over a guy who never dies, Jeffrey Epstein.

Consider this a warning’: Disturbing video shows anti-Israel group's chilling threat to Victorian business workers

Disturbing footage shows an anonymous masked figure declaring 'death to Australia' and threatening workers at a Victorian business which was firebombed and sprayed with anti-Semitic messages just weeks prior.

The figure in the video says Lovitt Technologies workers have watched on as Israel “accelerated genocide” in Gaza, and addresses “oppression, ethnic cleansing and murder” of Indigenous Australians.

“Every worker in this supply chain is complicit,” the person said.
