Germany tells Ukraine ‘no Taurus missiles’

Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has also ruled out giving Kiev more Patriot air defense systems

 

Germany will not supply Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems nor long-range Taurus missiles, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has told the Financial Times.He explained that Berlin must prioritize its own security, as its remaining Patriot inventory is too limited.

 

In an interview released on Sunday, Pistorius said Berlin has already sent three of its own Patriot systems to Kiev, out of the 12 it once had.

 

“We only have six left in Germany,” Pistorius stated, noting that another two are currently in Poland, and at least one is undergoing maintenance or used for training. “That’s really too few, especially considering the NATO capability goals we have to meet. We definitely can’t give any more.”

 

Pistorius said Berlin is in talks with Washington to buy two Patriot systems from US stocks for delivery to Kiev. US President Donald Trump confirmed last week that he intends to authorize the sale.

 

The minister called on German weapons manufacturers to accelerate production under the broader REarmEurope initiative, in order to deter what Berlin calls Russian aggression – claims that Moscow has rejected as unfounded.

 

He also reaffirmed that Germany would not deliver Taurus missiles to Ukraine, despite renewed requests from Kiev. With a range of up to 500km, they could reach targets deep inside Russian territory, including Moscow.

 

Berlin has resisted supplying Taurus system for months. Former Chancellor Olaf Scholz repeatedly blocked the transfer, citing the risk of escalation. His successor, Friedrich Merz, has since said the issue remains open and confirmed that Germany is helping Ukraine develop its own long-range weapons under a bilateral agreement. Merz added that Kiev would face no restrictions on how they are used.

 

Moscow has warned that supplying Taurus missiles would make Germany a direct participant in the conflict. Russia has denounced Western weapons deliveries to Ukraine, saying they only prolong the hostilities and increase the risk of a wider war.

 

Officials in Moscow have also stressed that Russia has no plans to attack European countries, describing Western warnings as scare tactics to justify increased military budgets.

Zelensky threatens ‘long-range strikes’ inside Russia

 

The Ukrainian leader has vowed to conduct more attacks far from the front line

 

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has threatened new strikes deep inside Russia, days after the US pledged to resume military aid to Kiev.

 

Zelensky made the remarks after a meeting with Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Aleksandr Syrsky, and Chief of the General Staff Andrey Gnatov on Sunday.

 

Our units will continue to destroy the occupiers and do everything possible to bring the war onto Russian territory. We are preparing our new long-range strikes,” Zelensky wrote on X.

 

He added that Ukraine is preparing for a visit byUS presidential envoy Keith Kellogg and will “work with partners on arms deliveries and scaling up joint production of essential defense assets.”

 

Among its recent attacks far from the front line, Ukraine targeted military airfields housing strategic bombers in several Russian regions last month. Ukrainian drones and missiles also repeatedly struck apartment blocks and other civilian infrastructure. According to Moscow, Ukraine was responsible for the passenger train derailment on March 31, which left seven people dead.

 

The EU has allocated hundreds of billions of euros in recent months to expand its military-industrial complex and support Ukraine’s domestic weapons production.

 

Berlin will provide Ukraine its first batch of long-range missiles financed by Germany in the coming weeks, Major General Christian Freuding, who oversees the coordination of the country’s military support for Kiev, has said.

 

US President Donald Trump said earlier this week that the Pentagon will resume deliveries to Kiev, following weeks of suspension, and is reportedly considering approving the first new aid package since returning to office.

 

Russia has said that it views the use of foreign-supplied missiles as direct participation by Western states in the conflict,and claimed that Ukrainian troops cannot operate sophisticated weapons systems on their own.

German comedian charged with ‘approval of’ Trump assassination attempt

German comedian Sebastian Hotz has been charged with condoning violence after joking on X about the assassination attempt on US President Donald Trump.

 

In a now-deleted post,Hotz compared the July 13, 2024 shooting at a Trump rally to missing a bus, writing: “You sadly just missed it.”

 

He later defended his remarks, saying:“I find it fantastic when fascists die. Absolutely no one forces you to feel sorry for fascists– you can just not do it without the slightest consequence.”

 

A spokesperson for a Berlin court told Der Spiegel on Saturday thatHotz was charged under Section 140 of the German Criminal Code, which bans the “rewarding and approval of offenses.” If found guilty, the comedian could face up to three years in prison. The trial is set to begin on July 23.

 

Following a backlash, the public broadcaster RBB cut ties with Hotz, while sister channel ARD Kultur canceled a planned event with him. In response to the controversy,Hotz released a mockumentary on a different network titled ‘I’m Sorry, Mr. President’.

 

In 2024, a gunman opened fire during a Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, grazing the president’s ear and killing one person in the crowd. The shooter was shot dead by the Secret Service.

 

Trump and many Republicans have accused Democrats of fostering a political climate that encourages violence against conservatives. Democrats, in turn, have blamed Trump and his rhetoric for the escalating tensions.

Russia-US talks to continue despite efforts to derail them – Putin envoy

Dialogue based on mutual respect and economic cooperation are essential for global security and peace, Kirill Dmitriev has said

 

Russia will continue to engage in constructive dialogue with the US despite recent tensions and efforts to disrupt bilateral ties, presidential envoy and the CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, has said.

 

Dmitriev has been a prominent participant in Moscow’s contacts with Washington. He was part of the Russian delegation that held meetings with US officials during previous rounds of dialogue under the administration of President Donald Trump.

 

In a Telegram post on Monday,Dmitriev insisted that “constructive dialogue between Russia and the US is more effective than deliberately doomed attempts at pressure.”

 

He argued that the approach of former US President Joe Biden’s administration had failed and was “proven ineffective.”

 

Dmitriev also notedthat talks between the two countries would continue regardless of “titanic efforts” to undermine them. He did not elaborate which specific efforts he was referring to.

 

The Russian official stressed that mutual respect, realism, and economic cooperation are “the foundation of global security and a sustainable world.”

 

Since returning to office, Trump has broken from his predecessor’s policy of attempting to isolate Russia. He has re-established communications with Moscow and has held several phone calls with President Vladimir Putin.

 

Recently, however, Trump has expressed growing frustration over stalled Ukraine negotiations and has hinted at a potential policy shift on Russia. Last week, Trump said he would make an “important announcement” on Monday regarding US-Russia relations.

 

He has also recently pledged additional support to Kiev, including Patriots – without clarifying whether he was speaking about air defense systems or ammunition for them.

 

US Senator Lindsey Graham has said the upcoming announcement will be “very aggressive” and may involve offensive arms deliveries or new sanctions. He has also stated that the US Senate is looking to pass a sanctions bill that would allow Washington to impose 500% tariffs on nations that continue to trade with Russia. The bill would give Trump a “sledgehammer” to use against Moscow, the hawkish senator said.

 

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has saidRussia is “carefully recording all the nuances” in Trump’s statements and is awaiting the announcement to “understand what President Trump meant.”

Justice Department purge continues, firings include Trump classified document case investigators and Jan. 6 prosecutors

The ongoing purge of Justice Department officials who investigated President Trump and his allies continued this week, with the Justice Departmentfiring more than 20 employees who worked on the investigations, sources told CBS News.

 

The firings, one source familiar with the terminations said, included more than 20 people who worked on former Special Counsel Jack Smith's classified documents case against Mr. Trump and Smith's investigation into Mr. Trump's attempts to overturn election results in 2020.

 

There have been at least 35 firingsof Justice Department employees who worked for Smith on the two investigations he oversaw, andat least 15 more could be fired, the source said.

 

Sources told CBS News that among those fired were paralegals who worked for Smith's office, finance and support staff, and two additional Justice Department prosecutors in North Carolina and Florida. Three other top Jan. 6 prosecutors were fired in June.

 

The staffers were identified by the Justice Department's so-called "weaponization working group" which Attorney General Pam Bondi established as one of her first priorities after she was confirmed, one source said.

 

The attorney general established the "weaponization working group" to review Biden administration law enforcement policies, according to the source. The group is reviewing the two federal cases against Mr. Trump pursued by former special counsel Smith and is examining prosecutions of rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. It is also reviewing the Trump legal cases in New York — the "hush money" trialpursued by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and the civil enforcement actionagainst the Trump Organization brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James — neither of which involved federal prosecutors.

 

As the Justice Department began collecting information about the FBI agents who worked on Jan. 6 investigations and fired career prosecutors who worked on the cases, Bondi said in her directive that the working groupwould investigate "improper investigative tactics and unethical prosecutions" versus "good faith actions by federal employees simply following orders."

 

CBS News has reached out to the Justice Department for comment on the firings.

 

One of the staffers who has been fired was Patty Hartman, who served as a top public affairs specialist at the FBI and federal prosecutors' offices. Hartman was fired Monday via a letter from the attorney general. She worked on the District of Columbia U.S. Attorney's Office public affairs team that distributed news releases about the more than 1,500 Jan. 6 criminal prosecutions.

 

In an interview with CBS News, Hartman warned of a continuing wave of retribution inside the agency.

 

"The rules don't exist anymore," Hartman said. "There used to be a line, used to be a very distinct separation between the White House and the Department of Justice, because one should not interfere with the work of the other. That line is very definitely gone." (Liar, the DOJ is under direct control of the President, that is how Bidan directed all the persecutions)

 

The purge of Justice Department employees who worked on Jan. 6 cases began shortly after Mr. Trump's second inauguration, when he installed a former Jan. 6defense attorney, Ed Martin, as the acting top prosecutor in Washington, D.C.

 

Mr. Trump and his supporters have downplayed the damage, injuries and trauma of the Capitol siege and have sought to recast convicted rioters as "political prisoners."

 

The mass pardon of nearly all of the approximately 1,500 defendants shuttered the prosecutions in January.

The Biden Autopen Scandal just got worse.

 

The Oversight Project broke the story about the Biden autopen scandal wide open after they discovered thousands of acts of clemency and executive actions were signed with an autopen rather than a wet signature.

 

Earlier this year, the Oversight Project revealed six criminals were pardoned by Biden’s autopen on December 30, 2022, while Joe Biden was vacationing and golfing in St. Croix.

 

Joe Biden defended the use of an autopen in a quick interview with the New York Times.

 

The New York Times also reviewed some of the emails that the National Archives handed over to the Trump DOJ as part of their investigation into the autopen scandal.

 

The emails revealed that Biden’s staffers made decisions to sign the pardons with the autopen without directly hearing the orders from Joe Biden.

 

Joe Biden told the New York Times that he “orally granted all the pardons and commutations issued at the end of his term” and lashed out at President Trump as a “liar” for claiming the autopen was used without his authorization.

 

“I made every decision,” Biden insisted during his phone interview with The Times.

 

According to The Times, staff secretary, Stefanie Feldman, put the clemency records through the autopen.

 

It was revealed that Joe Biden did not approve of each name for the pardons – AND after changes were made about the specific inmates, Biden did NOT sign off on the revised list. Rather, his aides just ran the final version through the autopen without Biden’s approval.

 

“Mr. Biden did not individually approve each name for the categorical pardons that applied to large numbers of people, he and aides confirmed. Rather, after extensive discussion of different possible criteria, he signed off on the standards he wanted to be used to determine which convicts would qualify for a reduction in sentence,” The New York Times reported.

 

“Even after Mr. Biden made that decision, one former aide said, the Bureau of Prisons kept providing additional information about specific inmates, resulting in small changes to the list.Rather than ask Mr. Biden to keep signing revised versions, his staff waited and then ran the final version through the autopen, which they saw as a routine procedure, the aide said,” according to The Times.

 

Additionally, White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zeints actually approved pardons for Dr. Fauci and others on January 19:

 

At the Jan. 19 meeting, which took place in the Yellow Oval Room of the White House residence, Mr. Biden kept his aides until nearly 10 p.m. to talk through such decisions, according to people familiar with the matter.

 

The emails show that an aide to Mr. Siskel sent a draft summary of Mr. Biden’s decisions at that meeting to an assistant to Mr. Zients, copying Mr. Siskel, at 10:03 p.m.The assistant forwarded it to Mr. Reed and Mr. Zients, asking for their approval, and then sent a final version to Ms. Feldman — copying many meeting participants and aides — at 10:28 p.m.

 

Three minutes later, Mr. Zients hit “reply all” and wrote, “I approve the use of the autopen for the execution of all of the following pardons.”

 

The Oversight Committee, chaired by James Comer, opened an investigation into the autopen scandal and subpoenaed several Biden aides for documents and testimony.

 

Jill Biden’s Chief of Staff Anthony Bernal skipped his deposition. White House physician Dr. O’Connor pleaded the Fifth Amendment at least 10 times last week and refused to answer questions about Joe Biden’s health decline.

 

Ex-Biden official Neera Tanden recently admitted under oath to the House Oversight Committee during a closed-door testimony on Tuesday that she was one of the aides who controlled Joe Biden’s autopen.

 

Director of Domestic Policy Council Neera Tanden was brought before the Committee last month and admitted she was authorized to use Joe Biden’s autopen between October 2021 to May 2023.

 

According to the Washington Examiner, Neera Tanden testified that she was also authorized to direct the autopen; however, she denied manipulation or abuse.

 

Additionally, Neera Tanden admitted she would utilize the autopen without actually verifying from Joe Biden himself that it was an authorized action.

The Washington Post editorial board presented the different options they believe President Donald Trump may pursue to ensure that he doesn't end up a lame duck.

 

The Post noted on Friday that while most presidents "stumble" in their second term andeventually end up becoming lame duck presidents, Trump is "uniquely positioned to avoid this fate."

 

"He is the first president since Grover Cleveland to serve nonconsecutive terms, giving him a fresh start with a new team, a pliant Congress — and an unpopular predecessor to blame for the country’s problems," the editorial observed. "His continuing influence over the Republican Party’s base and showman’s command of the bully pulpit might allow him to exert unusual influence over the nation’s direction, even if Democrats flip control of the House for his final two years in office."

 

After signing his "One Big Beautiful Bill" on Independence Day, avoiding an all-out war with Iran, racking up wins in the Supreme Court and the cost of his tariffs not biting yet, the editorial board asserted that Trump is on "the longest hot streak of his second term."

 

The outlet also noted the president's ability to "enforce party discipline" and keep Republicans behind him, citing Sen. Thom Tillis', R-N.C., decision to take an early retirement after opposing Trump's tax bill as evidence.

 

"Trump could also dominate the 2028 conversation," the editorial speculated."He might be a kingmaker in the GOP primaries, and he’s in no rush to anoint an heir. Asked whether JD Vance is his successor, he responded by praising the vice president and Secretary of State Marco Rubio."

 

According to the Post, another option that Trump could explore — but likely will not — is running for a third term. Something that his former chief strategist, Steve Bannon, has been enthusiastically touting since Trump took the White House for the second time.

 

"The 22nd Amendment says a president cannot be elected more than twice. One idea, untested in court, is for Trump to run for vice president and then have his running mate resign if his ticket wins. But the 12th Amendment states that no person ineligible to be president can become vice president," the outlet explained.

 

"Another idea is for Trump to be elected speaker of the House. (Technically, the chamber’s leader does not need to be an elected official.) But Republicans could easily lose the House, and it’s hard to see leaders such as Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) stepping aside. It is even harder to imagine that, after the 2028 vote, a newly elected GOP president and vice president would both resign to make way for Speaker Trump to reenter the White House."

"The president has proved to be one of the most resilient American politicians ever to hold office, and the future might be better or worse than these predictions suggest. But, as Trump rolls out a new, massive tariff seemingly every hour, the bigger he goes, the higher the risk to the nation’s fortunes," the editorial concluded.

Ketanji Brown Jackson Says She Uses Supreme Court Opinions To Express Her Feelings

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson said during her book tour last weekend that she views Supreme Court opinions as a way to voice her personal convictions.

 

“I just feel that I have a wonderful opportunity to tell people in my opinions how I feel about the issues, and that’s what I try to do,” Jackson said.

 

She made the comments during a discussion of her new memoir, “Lovely One,” in front of 4,000 attendees at the Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans.

 

Jackson’s conception of her role appears to differ from that of most Supreme Court justices.

 

The justice “apparently has a fundamental disagreement with the rest of the court about what the role of a Supreme Court justice is,”Scott Jennings, former director of political affairs for George W. Bush, said in a CNN interview on Wednesday.

 

“People from the ideological right and the ideological left on the court have had to put her in her place a couple of times here in this term.I would guess internally it’s causing issues at the Supreme Court,”he added.

 

This tension has become evident in recent rulings. In June, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 against universal injunctions, which federal courts were using to block President Donald Trump’s executive orders. Justice Jackson filed her own dissent.

 

“I write separately to emphasize a key conceptual point: The Court’s decision to permit the Executive to violate the Constitution with respect to anyone who has not yet sued is an existential threat to the rule of law,” she stated.

 

Justice Amy Coney Barrett slammed Jackson in the majority opinion, saying that “She offers a vision of the judicial role that would make even the most ardent defender of judicial supremacy blush.”

 

“​​We will not dwell on Justice Jackson’s argument, which is at odds with more than two centuries’ worth of precedent, not to mention the Constitution itself,” Barrett concluded. “We observe only this: Justice Jackson decries an imperial Executive while embracing an imperial Judiciary.”

 

Jackson was notably the only dissenter in a ruling on Tuesday enabling the Trump administration to continue mass government layoffs per a February executive order. Though the court order took up less than two pages, her dissent ran 15 pages long.

 

The Heritage Foundation’s Hans von Spakovsky told The Daily Wire this week that“Jackson is really at the far end of the spectrum,” and that her colleagues — including the other liberal justices — “are getting tired of her.”

 

Reminiscing about her childhood during another book promotion at the Kennedy Center, Jackson said her mother “wanted me to get out there and use my voice,” and that she’d enrolled Jackson in public speaking classes starting in elementary school.

 

Despite being the youngest and newest justice, having been nominated by President Joe Biden in 2022, Jackson speaks more than any of her colleagues. Since October, she has spoken 50% more words than the next most vocal justice, Sonia Sotomayor, according to a report by Empirical SCOTUS.

 

She was also in the majority the least often this term, and wrote more — including opinions, dissents, and concurrences — than any of the other justices except for Clarence Thomas.

 

“There are some times when, even after the principal dissent is written, I have a slightly different perspective or a different take on something or this is an issue of particular importance to me,” she said.

 

“I will say, ‘Forgive me, Justice Sotomayor, but I need to write on this case,’ and it’s because I feel like I might have something to offer and something to add, and I’m not afraid to use my voice.”

As you likely know, for years now, rumors have swirled that France’s First Lady, Brigitte Macron, was actually born male, specifically, as a baby boy named Jean-Michel Trogneux. Of course, the legacy media dismissed it all as tabloid trash and conspiracy nonsense. But the deeper people dug, the harder it became to ignore, and the more eyes started to open.

 

And people grew even more intrigued when the French establishment treated the rumor like radioactive material. Doth the “lady” protest too much?

 

But today, thanks to this new plot twist, those rumors just got a major boost of credibility. A Paris appeals court just cleared two women of defamation after they publicly accused Brigitte of being a man. The court ruled it was not “defamatory” to make the claim that Mrs. Macron was born a man. Which means, like it or not, this theory is officially fair game in France now.

 

The two women, Amandine Roy, a clairvoyant, and Natacha Rey, a blogger, were originally convicted of defamation for after participating in a 4-hour YouTube video where they claimed Brigitte Macron was born a man. But upon closer inspection, the appeals court ruled their statements were not defamatory, but rather protected as free speech made in good faith. That means they can now legally repeat their claims and they likely will. Over and over.

Two women convicted of defaming French first lady Brigitte Macron by saying she was ‘born a man’ were today sensationally cleared on appeal.

 

Judges sitting at the Paris Appeal Court on Thursday ruled that Amandine Roy, a 53-year-old clairvoyant, and Natacha Rey, 49 and a blogger, had every legal right to make the sulphurous allegations.

 

Both had claimed they were subjected to ‘intimidation by the authorities’ as ‘ultra protected’ members of the Paris establishment tried to cover up a ‘state secret’.

 

Lawyers for Ms Macron, 72, in turn indicated that she was ‘devastated’ by the development, and would be taking the case to France’s Cassation Court.[…]

 

A judge sitting at Lisieux, in Normandy, originally fined the two women the equivalent of £1700 each, after finding them both guilty of libel.

 

Following earlier appeals, Roy’s fine was reduced to £850, while Rey had £1300 of her £1700 fine suspended, meaning she had to pay just £400.

 

Now, neither will have to pay anything, and they will be able to repeat the allegations against Ms Macron.

 

Maud Marian, defence barrister for Roy, said: ‘We’re acquitted!’, while François Danglehant, for Rey, also expressed great pleasure at the judgement.

 

The two women, who were not present when the judgment was announced, were sued for defamation by Ms Macron in January 2022.

 

Today’s court ruling states that the 18 passages of the video under consideration ‘do not constitute defamation’, and instead represent ‘good faith’ free speech.

 

And for those of you just catching up, the Brigitte Macron rumor has been making the rounds since at least 2021. The rumor goes like this: Brigitte was born a male named Jean-Michel Trogneux, who just so happens to be the name of her real-life brother. The theory also claims her first husband never actually existed and that Brigitte’s transformation into the “wife” of Emmanuel Macron was part of a long-running elite cover-up inside the French state…

One Year Later, Questions Remain About Butler Despite Trump Being ‘Very Satisfied’ With Investigation

One year after an assassination attempt against Donald Trump, the president says he is “satisfied” with an investigation into the attack, although details remain vague.

 

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, just a few days before the Republican National Convention, Trump took the stage for a campaign rally at Butler, Pennsylvania. Six minutes after the now president appeared before his supporters, gunfire rang out. One minute later, Secret Service agents moved Trump off stage, blood running down the side of his face. He raised his fist in the air, yelling “fight, fight, fight.”

 

For months, questions about the assassination attempt loomed. Who really was the assassin? What was his motivation? How did the Secret Service miss a man with a rifle on a roof? Will Trump be able to continue doing outdoor rallies?

 

A year later, many questions remain unanswered. Yet, Trump recently told the Daily Caller that he is “very satisfied” with the answers his FBI, DOJ and Secret Service have been able to provide him.

 

It was a notable answer from the president, who months earlier disclosed that he felt quite differently.

 

In July 2024, 20-year-old Thomas Crooks sat on “an elevated position” on top of a building about 400 feet away from Trump and was able to fire off multiple rounds into the crowd. One of Crooks’ bullets grazed Trump’s ear, injured crowd members and killed former volunteer fire chief Corey Comperatore. A report from The Wall Street Journal said Crooks reportedly flew a drone over the Pennsylvania site, capturing aerial footage of the rally setup hours before the incident. It was reported that counter snipers and law enforcement laid eyes on Crooks and identified him as a suspicious person in the moments leading up to his first shots against Trump.

 

“I’m relying on my people to tell me what it is … The Secret Service, they tell me it’s fine. But it’s a little hard to believe,” Trump said in March.

 

Days later, Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino insisted that there was no conspiracy behind the assassination attempt on Trump’s life.

 

“If there was a big, explosive ‘there’ there — given my history as a Secret Service agent, and my personal friendship, as a director does with the president, give me one logical, sensible reason we would not have — if you can think of one, there isn’t,” Bongino said on Fox News.

 

“In some of these cases, the ‘there’ you’re looking for is not there. And I know people — I get it, I understand. It’s not there. If it was there, we would have told you,” he added.

 

Little is still known about the late 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, who attempted to kill Trump during the Butler rally. Investigators still have not shared Crooks’ motive.

 

Crooks donated $15 to the Progressive Turnout Project through the ActBlue donation platform in January 2021, when President Joe Biden was inaugurated, according to campaign finance records. He was also a registered Republican, voter registration records reveal. Ahead of the Trump rally, Crooks searched “how far was Oswald from Kennedy,” “where will Trump speak from at Butler Farm Show,” “Butler Farm Show podium,” and “Butler Farm Show photos.”

 

Now, the Secret Service says six agents for failures related to the assassination attempt were suspended without pay, according to multiple reports. The disciplined agents were both supervisory and line agents and suspensions ranged from 10 to 42 days, according to ABC News.

 

The agents returned to work in restricted roles, USSS deputy director Matthew Quinn told CBS News.

 

Trump did an interview with his daughter-in-law Lara Trump to mark the anniversary of the near assassination attempt, telling her that the agents on duty at the rally just had a “bad day.”

 

“They should have had somebody in the building [Crooks shot from], that was a mistake,” Trump said. “They should have had communications with the local police, they weren’t tied in, and they should have been tied in. So there were mistakes made … But I was satisfied in terms of the bigger plot, the larger plot, I was satisfied.”

 

“And I have great confidence in these people,” Trump added. “I know the people. And they’re very talented, very capable. But they had a bad day. And I think they’ll admit that. They had a rough day.”
