Astronomers discover monster exoplanet hiding in 'stellar fog' around young star
July 14, 2025
Astronomers have spotted a monster-sized planet that could be up to ten times the size of Jupiter emerging from the stellar fog surrounding a young star.
Prior observations of the roughly 13 million-year-old star MP Mus (also known as PDS 66) located around 280 light-years away had failed to distinguish features in the swirling cloud of gas and dust, or protoplanetary disk, that surrounds it.
However, when astronomers reexamined the apparently featureless protoplanetary disk of this star using combined data from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and the European Space Agency (ESA) Gaia mission, they found it may not be quite so lonely after all.
The team detected a huge gas giant dwelling in the protoplanetary disk of MP Mus, which had been previously hidden.
This represents the first time Gaia has spotted an extrasolar planet or "exoplanet" sitting in a protoplanetary disk, the disks of material around young stars that birth planets.
Such detections have typically been tough due to interference from the gas and dust of the protoplanetary disk. Until now, astronomers have only made three strong detections of planets within protoplanetary disks.
This new finding could help astronomers hunt more recently formed planets around infant stars.
Young exoplanets get into the groove
Planets form within protoplanetary disks through a process called core accretion, when larger and larger particles stick together via gravity, forming planetesimals, asteroids, and eventually planets.
As material from the protoplanetary disk is swallowed up by this process, the planets created begin to carve channels in the disk, akin to the grooves in a vinyl record.
When this team initially observed the protoplanetary disk around MP Mus in 2023 with ALMA, these were the kind of structures they had expected to see. Structures that were missing.
"We first observed this star at the time when we learned that most discs have rings and gaps, and I was hoping to find features around MP Mus that could hint at the presence of a planet or planets," team leader Álvaro Ribas from Cambridge's Institute of Astronomy said in a statement.
What the team found instead was a seemingly lonely star surrounded by a featureless disk of gas and dust that had none of the hallmarks of forming planets.
"Our earlier observations showed a boring, flat disc," Ribas said. "But this seemed odd to us, since the disc is between seven and ten million years old.
"In a disc of that age, we would expect to see some evidence of planet formation."
With their curiosity piqued, the team set about relooking at MP Mus again using ALMA, but in longer wavelengths of light.
This allowed them to probe deeper into the disk, revealing a cavity in the disk close to the young star and two further "holes" further out, all of which were absent in the prior observations.
Further evidence of a planetary companion to MP Mus was about to be delivered.
1/2
More than just a first for Gaia
As Ribas and colleagues were examining MP Mus with ALMA, European Southern Observatory (ESO) researcher Miguel Vioque was looking at the young star using the now-retired star tracking spacecraft Gaia.
What Vioque discovered was that this young star is "wobbling." This is something that would usually be the effect of a planet in orbit gravitationally tugging on a star, but Vioque was aware that MP Mus' protoplanetary disk had, until that point, come up empty in terms of planets.
"My first reaction was that I must have made a mistake in my calculations, because MP Mus was known to have a featureless disc," Vioque explained.
"I was revising my calculations when I saw Álvaro give a talk presenting preliminary results of a newly-discovered inner cavity in the disc, which meant the wobbling I was detecting was real and had a good chance of being caused by a forming planet."
The researchers came together, combining the Gaia and ALMA data with some computer modeling assistance to determine that the wobbling is likely caused by a gas giant with a mass between three and ten times that of Jupiter.
This giant planet appears to orbit MP Mus at a distance of between one and three times the distance between Earth and the sun.
"Our modelling work showed that if you put a giant planet inside the newfound cavity, you can also explain the Gaia signal," Ribas said. "And using the longer ALMA wavelengths allowed us to see structures we couldn’t see before."
As well as being the first time Gaia has spotted a planet within a protoplanetary disk, this is the first time an embedded exoplanet has been indirectly discovered by combining precise star movement data from Gaia with deep observations of the disk courtesy of ALMA.
"We think this might be one of the reasons why it's hard to detect young planets in protoplanetary discs, because in this case, we needed the ALMA and Gaia data together," said Ribas.
"The longer ALMA wavelength is incredibly useful, but to observe at this wavelength requires more time on the telescope."
Ribas is hopeful that future ALMA upgrades, in addition to forthcoming telescopes, could be used to probe even deeper into protoplanetary disks.
This would not only reveal a hitherto undiscovered population of young embedded exoplanets, but it could help us understand how the solar system came to be around 4.5 billion years ago.
The team's research was published on Monday (July 14) in the journal Nature Astronomy.

Gravitational waves reveal most massive black hole merger ever detected — one 'forbidden' by current models
July 14, 2025
Scientists have detected the most massive merger of black holes ever. This titanic collision, "heard" in ripples in spacetime called gravitational waves, involves black holes so massive that it could challenge current models of the universe.
The merger was detected by the gravitational wave detector network LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) on Nov. 23, 2023, during the fourth observing run of these three sensitive laser interferometers located in the US, Italy, and Japan.
The merger event that set spacetime ringing with this gravitational wave signal, designated GW231123, involved progenitor black holes with masses of 100 and 140 times that of the sun.
These two were so massive that when they merged, they created a "daughter" black hole 225 times the mass of our sun, with the missing mass converted to energy, propelling gravitational waves that rippled out from the violent event.
Prior to GW231123, the most massive black hole created in a merger and detected in gravitational waves had a mass of 140 times that of the sun. This was detected in 2021 as the signal GW190521.
"This is the most massive black hole binary we've observed through gravitational waves, and it presents a real challenge to our understanding of black hole formation," LVK collaboration and Cardiff University researcher Mark Hannam said in a statement.
"Black holes this massive are forbidden through standard stellar evolution models.
"One possibility is that the two black holes in this binary formed through earlier mergers of smaller black holes."
The monstrous masses of these black holes are not the only things that make GW231123 so interesting.
The signal seems to indicate that prior to the merger, at least one of the progenitor black holes was spinning rapidly. Perhaps as rapidly as the laws of physics allow, in fact.
"The black holes appear to be spinning very rapidly — near the limit allowed by Einstein's theory of general relativity," LVK member Charlie Hoy of the University of Portsmouth said.
"That makes the signal difficult to model and interpret. It's an excellent case study for pushing forward the development of our theoretical tools."
Another record broken for LIGO and partners
The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) is no stranger to making history and breaking records.
In 2015, its twin detectors based in Livingston, Louisiana, and Hanford, Washington, made the first ever detection of gravitational waves.
This detection came exactly a century after Einstein had first predicted the existence of gravitational waves in his 1915 theory of gravity, general relativity.
The signal, which would become known as GW150914, was the result of the merger of black holes that created a daughter black hole with a mass around 62 times that of the sun.
Since 2015, LIGO has been joined by the gravitational wave detectors Virgo and the Kamioka Gravitational Wave Detector (KAGRA). This resultant collaboration has now detected over 300 black hole mergers.
Over 200 of these detections have occurred in the fourth operating run of these instruments.
As impressive as that is, the high-mass and rapid spin of the black holes that clashed to create GW231123 have pushed the limits of gravitational-wave detection technology and perhaps the bounds of current theoretical models, too.
"This event pushes our instrumentation and data-analysis capabilities to the edge of what's currently possible," LVK member and California Institute of Technology (Caltech) researcher Sophie Bini said.
"It's a powerful example of how much we can learn from gravitational-wave astronomy — and how much more there is to uncover."
Fully unlocking the secrets of this signal and others that LVK detected up until the end of its fourth operating run in January 2024 will require the refinement of analysis and interpretation methods.
"It will take years for the community to fully unravel this intricate signal pattern and all its implications," LVK team member Gregorio Carullo of the University of Birmingham said.
"Despite the most likely explanation remaining a black hole merger, more complex scenarios could be the key to deciphering its unexpected features.
"Exciting times ahead!"

Trump's 'One Big Beautiful Bill' gives US Space Force $1 billion for secretive X-37B space plane
July 14, 2025
U.S. President Trump's "One, Big Beautiful Bill Act," H.R. 1 includes $1 billion for the U.S. Space Force (USSF) X-37B military spacecraft program.
The largely classified X-37B – also called the Orbital Test Vehicle (OTV) program – carried out its seventh mission, landing at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California on March 7, touching down after 434 days in orbit.
As for how that $1 billion would be spent, and when the next X-37B would depart, Space.com reached out to the space plane's builder, Boeing.
We received a "thank you for the query" in response, and an inquiry-altering note to contact the Air Force for comment on the X-37 schedule and budget.
Space test platform
"The USSF X-37B program supports technology risk reduction, experimentation, and operational concept development for future re-usable space vehicles," responded USAF Colonel Lori Astroth, Public Affairs Deputy Director for Space within the Secretary of the Air Force Office of Public Affairs at the Pentagon.
The X-37B program "serves as a flexible space test platform to conduct various experiments that can be transported to space and returned to Earth," Col. Astroth added.
"Further information regarding X-37B's cost and budget information is not releasable."
Highly elliptical orbit
That last hush-hush flight of the X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle-7 (OTV-7) featured the craft being hurled into a highly elliptical high Earth orbit via a Falcon Heavy rocket back on December 28, 2023.
After aerobraking to a low Earth orbit and completing its test and experimentation objectives, the space plane successfully performed its deorbit and landing procedures.
As did the previous (OTV-6) space plane trek, OTV-7 also involved a service module that expanded the capabilities of the spacecraft.
"The successful completion of the novel aerobraking maneuver demonstrated the agile and flexible capabilities the X-37B provides the United States Space Force," according to the statement issued by the Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs.
The aerobraking technique entails use of atmospheric drag over the course of multiple passes to change orbits while expending minimal fuel.
"While on orbit, Mission 7 accomplished a range of test and experimentation objectives intended to demonstrate the X-37B's robust maneuver capability while helping characterize the space domain through the testing of space domain awareness technology experiments," the statement notes.
Flight roster
Here's a listing of previous flights of the space plane:
OTV-1: launched on April 22, 2010 and landed on December 3, 2010, spending over 224 days on orbit.
OTV-2: launched on March 5, 2011 and landed on June 16, 2012, spending over 468 days on orbit.
OTV-3: launched on December 11, 2012 and landed on October 17, 2014, spending over 674 days on-orbit.
OTV-4: launched on May 20, 2015 and landed on May 7, 2015, spending nearly 718 days on-orbit.
OTV-5: launched on September 7, 2017 and landed on October 27, 2019, spending nearly 780 days on-orbit.
OTV-6: launched on May 17, 2020 and landed on November 12, 2022, circling Earth for 908 days.
OTV-7: lofted on December 28, 2023 and touched down on March 7, 2025, circling Earth for 434 days.
First use technologies
The builder of the vehicle, Boeing, has previously noted that the X-37B makes use of several “first use in space” technologies including:
Avionics designed to automate all de-orbit and landing functions.
Flight controls and brakes using all electro-mechanical actuation; no hydraulics on board.
Use of a lighter composite structure, rather than traditional aluminum.
New generation high-temperature wing leading-edge tiles and toughened uni-piece fibrous refractory oxidation-resistant ceramic (TUFROC) tiles and advanced conformal reusable insulation (CRI) blankets.
According to Aviation Week & Space Technology, the Space Force is utilizing the X-37B system as an on-orbit testbed to try out new technologies, to better understand similar adversarial platforms and to design new training environments, citing comments to the publication in January by Chief of Space Operations General Chance Saltzman.

Who is Shalla-Bal, the female Silver Surfer in 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps''?
July 14, 2025
Marvel Studios' "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" is basking in the golden light of enthusiastic anticipation ahead of its July 25, 2025 release date.
With Galactus positioned as the sci-fi fantasy flick's primary antagonist, it's time to delve into the Devourer of Worlds' shiny Sentinel of the Spaceways and the character's role as the colossal cosmic villain's herald of woe.
While there might have been an initial wave of online grumbling upon seeing a female Silver Surfer and erroneously believing this was a simple gender-swap of Norrin Radd, the original Marvel Comics iteration of the gleaming alien, we're here to set the story straight.
This is not your grandparents' (or even parents') Silver Surfer, but a completely different character named Shalla-Bal.
But who exactly is Shalla-Bal, which actor is playing her, and what are her origins in the Marvel Universe? While MCU newbies might think she's just now joining the Marvel superhero scene, her 57-year-old backstory might surprise you.
Let's streak into this comprehensive examination of the new Silver Surfer and learn how she's destined to become a fan favorite with director Matt Shakman's "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" storms into theaters this summer.
When did Shalla-Bal first appear in the comics?
Created by Marvel legends writer Stan Lee and artist John Buscema, Shalla-Bal arrived in the storied pages of Marvel Comics' "The Silver Surfer #1" with a cover date of August 1968.
Shalla-Bal was the Zenn-Lavian royal heir and romantic partner of a brilliant scientist from the utopian planet of Zenn-La named Norris Radd, who became the herald of Galactus known as the Silver Surfer.
Shalla-Bal was later crowned the Empress of Zenn-La after Radd sacrificed himself to be enslaved as the servant of the planet eater to save his world from obliteration.
Their loving bond remained but the two were seemingly forever separated after Radd was imbued by Galactus with the Power Cosmic.
Who is playing the Silver Surfer in "The Fantastic Four: First Steps?"
Julia Garner ("Ozark") will be stepping into the role of Shalla-Bal, the former lover of the original Sentinel of the Spaceways, Norrin Radd.
Garner is an excellent performer, and we're excited to see what she does with the iconic part, even if it's going to be layered with silver-hued CGI trickery.
"She is the herald of Galactus, so she works for Galactus, but you’re not sure where she stands," Garner told Entertainment Weekly.
"Does she stand with her boss, or is she just doing what she’s told? She has this mysterious energy about her, and slowly that mystery will get solved with the audience throughout watching it."
How did Shalla-Bal become the Silver Surfer in the comics?
To be honest, she never really did! Unless you count a very brief stint in Marvel's alt-universe dystopian miniseries "Earth X" from 2000 by Jim Krueger, John Paul Leon, and Alex Ross that featured twin heralds created by Franklin Richards/Galactus.
This alternative take ended with Shalla-Bal's death during a climactic clash with the Celestials. At this point in the marketing campaign, it’s now pretty clear that the film plays out in a retro-futuristic alternate version of Earth in the 1960s.
Therefore, we can surmise that in this iteration of our planet’s timeline, Shalla-Bal was the one who made the “Deal with the Devil” and agreed to be Galactus' herald which could have left Norrin Radd to become the leader of Zenn-La.
What are the Silver Surfer’s powers?
While Shalla-Bal is immortal and once wielded a sliver of the Power Cosmic from Norrin Radd to restore Zenn-La after Galactus drained the planet of its life source, we're not sure what powers this version of the Silver Surfer will eventually display.
The traditional Silver Surfer possessed cosmic awareness, self-healing, superluminal speed aboard his shape-shifting surfboard, energy projection, matter manipulation, telepathy, enhanced strength, and overall super coolness. That last one is vital.
"The Fantastic Four: First Steps" arrives in theaters on July 25, 2025.

‘Ukrainian recruit’ killed in Siberian shootout – FSB (GRAPHIC VIDEO)
14 Jul, 2025 13:23
A Russian national suspected of plotting a bomb attack and planning to flee to Ukraine has been killed in a shootout with Russian law enforcement officers in Western Siberia, the Federal Security Service (FSB) reported on Monday.
The agency published video footage of the deadly confrontation in Tyumen Region, saying it took place as the man tried to retrieve an improvised explosive device from a stash.
The video features drone footage of the man as he exits a vehicle in a remote area and walks away from the roadway.
Two other individuals can be seen approaching the vehicle from a different direction. The video transitions from thermal imaging to regular ground-level footage filmed from afar.
The suspect is shown throwing a hand grenade and shifting his position before being fatally shot by security forces.
According to the FSB, the man, allegedly in his late 30s, had been working for the Ukrainian intelligence services since early 2025.
Initially, he was involved in monitoring military trains along the Trans-Siberian Railway, but later progressed to plotting a targeted killing, which the agency described as an attempted terrorist attack.
Authorities said the suspect intended to plant an explosive device beneath the vehicle of a military service member he had been tasked with assassinating.
The agency also released footage showing tactical gear, grenade fuses, and other items allegedly found in the suspect’s home.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly denounced sabotage attacks, accusing the “illegitimate Kiev regime” of morphing into a terrorist organization amid setbacks on the battlefield, and branding its Western supporters as accomplices.
The FSB warns that Ukrainian special services are actively recruiting people in Russia to commit crimes on its behalf, and regularly reports thwarting alleged plots. Suspects are usually taken into custody and face lengthy prison terms if found guilty.

Former Nigerian president dies in London
14 Jul, 2025 09:20
Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has died after a prolonged illness, the country’s authorities have reported.
The ex-military general led Africa’s most populous nation from 1984 to 1985 following a coup, and was later elected to two terms, serving from 2015 to 2023.
The 82-year old died at a clinic in London on Sunday afternoon, his spokesman, Garba Shehu, said in a post on X.
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said he received news of his predecessor’s death with “profound sorrow and a heavy heart,” and extended condolences to Buhari’s widow and family.
“Buhari was, to the very core, a patriot, a soldier, a statesman,” Tinubu said in a statement, praising the late president’s “unwavering dedication” and “deep commitment to the unity and progress” of Nigeria.
“He stood firm through the most turbulent times… He championed discipline in public service, confronted corruption head-on, and placed the country above personal interest at every turn,” Tinubu said.
In a separate statement, the Nigerian head of state said Vice President Kashim Shettima has been directed to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany Buhari’s body back to the West African country for a state burial.
Buhari first seized power in a military coup on December 31, 1983, overthrowing then-President Shehu Shagari.
He launched a campaign to restore discipline and tackle corruption, but his 20-month rule drew widespread criticism for alleged human rights abuses.
A failed attempt by agents linked to his regime to abduct exiled minister Umaru Dikko in London strained diplomatic relations with the UK.
In 1985, Buhari was removed from office in a coup, and later rebranded himself as a “reformed democrat.”
He lost three presidential elections before defeating incumbent Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 — the first time an opposition candidate unseated a sitting president in Nigeria’s history.
While his early anti-corruption drive earned praise, Buhari’s administration was soon plagued by escalating insecurity and deepening economic hardship.
His handling of the 2020 #EndSARS protests against police brutality drew international condemnation, after security forces were accused of opening fire on peaceful demonstrators at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos.

Russian kamikaze drone destroys Ukrainian radar
14 Jul, 2025 13:33
The Russian military has taken out a Ukrainian radar with a drone strike in the country’s northern Chernigov Region, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has reported.
In a statement on Monday, the ministry said a UAV unit operating Geran-2 drones had conducted the strike near the settlement of Borzna.
A short video clip accompanying the statement depicts what appears to be several military vehicles moments before being hit by the drone. A powerful explosion follows, with plumes of black smoke billowing from the site.
Earlier this month, the Russian Defense Ministry said similar explosives-laden UAVs had obliterated a Ukrainian marines’ position in Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).
In a separate attack around the same time, Russian Geran-2 drones hit a Ukrainian UAV workshop in Sumy Region, according to military officials in Moscow.
Several days earlier, the ministry released footage of a purported strike on a Ukrainian ammunition depot in the DPR.
The Geran-2 employs a ‘flying wing’ aerodynamic configuration and carries a 40kg+ warhead, with an operational range of up to 2,000km (1,250 miles).
While the UAV typically travels at relatively moderate speeds (around 150-170kph or 93-105mph), its low radar signature and the ability to fly intricate trajectories has enabled the kamikaze drone to effectively penetrate Ukrainian air defenses.
Russian forces usually launch Gerans in large numbers, which further increases the likelihood of at least some of the UAVs reaching their targets.
Since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022, the Russian military has deployed long-range drones to strike dual-purpose infrastructure, military installations, and Ukrainian weapon storage sites.
The rapid production rate of the Geran-2 – dozens or even hundreds monthly – has enabled Moscow’s forces to launch UAV swarms on an almost daily basis.

Zelensky threatens ‘long-range strikes’ inside Russia
14 Jul, 2025 00:03
Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has threatened new strikes deep inside Russia, days after the US pledged to resume military aid to Kiev.
Zelensky made the remarks after a meeting with Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Aleksandr Syrsky, and Chief of the General Staff Andrey Gnatov on Sunday.
“Our units will continue to destroy the occupiers and do everything possible to bring the war onto Russian territory. We are preparing our new long-range strikes,” Zelensky wrote on X.
He added that Ukraine is preparing for a visit by US presidential envoy Keith Kellogg and will “work with partners on arms deliveries and scaling up joint production of essential defense assets.”
Among its recent attacks far from the front line, Ukraine targeted military airfields housing strategic bombers in several Russian regions last month.
Ukrainian drones and missiles also repeatedly struck apartment blocks and other civilian infrastructure. According to Moscow, Ukraine was responsible for the passenger train derailment on March 31, which left seven people dead.
The EU has allocated hundreds of billions of euros in recent months to expand its military-industrial complex and support Ukraine’s domestic weapons production.
Berlin will provide Ukraine its first batch of long-range missiles financed by Germany in the coming weeks, Major General Christian Freuding, who oversees the coordination of the country’s military support for Kiev, has said.
US President Donald Trump said earlier this week that the Pentagon will resume deliveries to Kiev, following weeks of suspension, and is reportedly considering approving the first new aid package since returning to office.
Russia has said that it views the use of foreign-supplied missiles as direct participation by Western states in the conflict, and claimed that Ukrainian troops cannot operate sophisticated weapons systems on their own.

Expert: Belarus downing Russian drone serves its own interests, not gesture to Ukraine
14.07.2025 16:57
The downing of a Russian drone by Belarusians should not be overestimated, as it is solely a response to a threat to Belarus, not a gesture of support for Ukraine.
This opinion was expressed in a comment to Ukrinform by Yaroslav Chornogor, director of the Russian and Belarusian Studies Program at the Ukrainian Prism Foreign Policy Council and candidate of historical sciences.
"Firstly, this is not the first case of shooting down… It is good that they [Belarusians] shot down a Russian UAV, but I would not attach great positive significance to this fact for us, because we do not know exactly over which territory it happened.
Perhaps there was some kind of Belarusian strategic facility or something else that gave Belarusian pilots reason to use weapons.
But I don't think any Ukrainian interests were taken into account there — it was exclusively Belarus's need," the expert said.
He added that Russian drones have been flying into Belarusian territory for several months now, and the count is “in the tens, if not hundreds of UAVs.”
Chornogor expressed doubt about the possibility of any “showdown” between the Russians and Belarusians over this incident. In his opinion, Belarus will most likely keep quiet about this incident.
"They have a union state [with Russia], the Belarusian military goes to Russian training grounds to learn from their experience… Preparations are now underway for the joint Zahid 2025 exercises.
We should not reassure ourselves and deceive ourselves - this incident [the shooting down of a Russian UAV by Belarusians] does not change anything significantly," Chornogor noted.
As reported by Ukrinform with reference to an informed source in the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, on July 12, a Mi-24 helicopter of the Air Defense Forces of the Republic of Belarus attacked and destroyed a Russian Gerbera-type strike UAV flying towards Ukraine.
At that moment, there were at least three Russian drones in Belarusian airspace. The wreckage of the downed UAV fell on the territory of the Gomel region.

DEXA Secures National FAA Waiver for Beyond Visual Line of Sight Drone Operations
Jul 14, 2025, 9:00 AM ET
DEXA, a leading innovator in autonomous drone delivery, today announced it has received a national waiver from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) allowing its drones to operate beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) without requiring individual, case-by-case flight approvals from the FAA.
This milestone places DEXA among an elite group of drone operators cleared to scale commercial drone delivery, and is now one of a select few carriers cleared for national BVLOS operations.
"This nationwide waiver enables us to deliver on our promise of faster, smarter logistics in communities across the country," said Russell Kline, Chief Regulatory Officer at DEXA.
"It's the result of years of safety innovation, engineering rigor, and close coordination with the FAA.
We're excited to move forward with BVLOS operations and bring the benefits of drone delivery to more people and businesses around the country."
Traditional commercial drone use without this FAA waiver requires visual observers to maintain line of sight contact with their drones.
This national waiver enables DEXA to allow its drones to travel long distances anywhere in the U.S., without a pilot maintaining visual contact, dramatically reducing operational costs and opening the door for large-scale commercial deployments.
DEXA is the only company of its size that has achieved all three critical FAA milestones that make true drone delivery possible:
FAA Airworthiness Certification - The FAA has certified that DEXA's purpose-built aircraft are commercially safe and reliable
Part 135 Air Carrier Certificate - a key requirement for companies operating drones for commercial purposes, particularly for BVLOS deliveries
National BVLOS Waiver - eliminating the need for case-by-case FAA approval for long-range drone flights. DEXA is one of a select few companies with this nationwide waiver
Beyond serving enterprise partners, DEXA has built a direct-to-consumer marketplace where customers will be able to order groceries, OTC medications, pet supplies, and more through rapid drone delivery, often within minutes, delivered to their physical location.
No address is required, just like Uber knows where to pick up people needing rides. For $6 a month, users enjoy unlimited deliveries to wherever they are at in-store prices, with no hidden fees or tipping.
"The FAA's national BVLOS waiver is a milestone moment for our team here at DEXA," said Beth Flippo, Chief Executive Officer.
"This approval is a testament not just for our regulatory clearances, but also to how efficiently our team has worked together to get to this point.
DEXA achieved these milestones and started operations with just $15 million in funding. In contrast, other drone delivery companies had to raise hundreds of millions or needed the backing of massive parent companies.
Our commitment to first and foremost delivering a safe, secure, and reliable service has paid dividends, which we're reinvesting into our unique marketplace business model."
DEXA continues to work closely with federal and local stakeholders to ensure safety, compliance, and community engagement remain central to its operations.
This expanded capability will accelerate DEXA's nationwide growth and support new applications in food, retail, and time-sensitive logistics.

Ukraine’s drone face Rubikon, Russia’s deadly new unit targeting drone operators
14/07/2025
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov says Russia has created a unit called “Rubikon” to hunt Ukrainian drone operators.
However, due to increased autonomy powered by artificial intelligence, Ukrainian operators can gradually be removed from the front lines, RBC reports.
Drone warfare innovations have become a hallmark of the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war, with unmanned vehicles of various sizes operating across air, land, and sea.
He explains that the current task is to ensure maximum remote control of drones so that operators can manage them from any city in the country. The next step is to implement full drone autonomy.
Fedorov also notes that full drone autonomy requires significant development and investment, which may take years.
Meanwhile, artificial intelligence technologies are already actively used in the military sphere for decoding images, target guidance, and operating FPV drones.
Ukraine is even launching a special grant program to develop military technologies based on artificial intelligence, which, according to the minister, will become “the future battlefield.”
Earlier, former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi said that hoping for a return to the 1991 borders without a technological leap is pointless.
He added that Kyiv could expect reaching victory only in the case of waging a high-tech war of survival, the one that uses minimal human resources and minimal economic means to achieve maximum effect.

UK drone support to Ukraine tops 70,000 in expanding effort
July 14, 2025
The UK has delivered more than 70,000 uncrewed systems to Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion began, according to a written answer to Parliament from Armed Forces Minister Luke Pollard.
The figure includes “hundreds of long-range attack drones, first person view (FPV), loitering munitions, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) drones and maritime drones,” he said in response to a question from Conservative MP James Cartlidge.
While exact numbers for each drone category remain classified, Pollard confirmed that the support spans a wide range of capabilities.
“As a former Defence Minister, he will know that for operational security reasons, we cannot provide details of the types of military drones purchased by the Ministry of Defence for its own purposes or those purchased for Ukraine,” he stated.
The announcement builds on a significant uplift in drone aid confirmed by Defence Secretary John Healey in June, who unveiled a tenfold increase in drone deliveries as part of a £350 million investment this financial year.
“The UK is stepping up its support for Ukraine by delivering hundreds of thousands more drones this year and completing a major milestone in the delivery of critical artillery ammunition,” Healey said at the time.
Healey also highlighted the importance of British industry in driving this effort. “We are learning lessons every day from the battlefield in Ukraine, which British companies are using to develop advanced new drones to help protect Ukraine’s civilians and also strengthen our own national security.”
Many of the drones delivered are British-designed and produced, with particular focus on systems that resist Russian electronic warfare, such as fibre-optic guided FPVs and jamming-resistant models.
The Drone Capability Coalition (DCC), co-led by the UK and Latvia, is central to this expansion.
“The DCC is currently focusing on small UAS and interceptors through competitive tenders,” Pollard noted, adding that “as announced by the Defence Secretary in January, [it] will provide 30,000 FPV drones for Ukraine by August of this year.”
The UK’s broader military assistance also includes the delivery of 140,000 artillery shells since January, alongside an additional £247 million to train Ukrainian forces through Operation Interflex.
A further £40 million is being channelled into NATO’s NSATU fund to sustain vehicle maintenance, fuel and other battlefield logistics.
British-supplied drones have been credited with stabilising sections of the front and now account for more battlefield casualties than artillery, according to Defence Intelligence assessments.
The scale-up in support follows the release of the 2025 Strategic Defence Review, which pledged over £4 billion to develop autonomous systems for the UK Armed Forces.
Healey has framed the investment as one that serves both Ukraine and UK national defence. “This investment will help keep us secure at home and strong abroad, while ensuring the UK is a world leader in rapidly developing drone technology,” he said.

One Palestinian Martyred, Others Injured in Zionist Enemy Drone
Mon, 14 Jul 2025 14:15:48 +0300
A Palestinian citizen was martyred and others were injured on Monday morning in a drone strike by the Zionist enemy targeting a displaced persons’ tent west of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Health on Sunday, the death toll from the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, has risen to 58,026 martyrs and 138,520 injured, in addition to victims still trapped under the rubble and on the roads, as ambulance and rescue teams are unable to reach them.
With U.S. support, the Zionist enemy has been committing acts of genocide against the people of Gaza since October 7, 2023, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, in defiance of international appeals and International Court of Justice orders to stop.

Israel killing Gaza civilians with commercial drones, probe finds
14 Jul 2025
The Israeli army is weaponising Chinese-made drones to kill Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, according to an investigation by the Israeli publications 972 Magazine and the Local Call.
The drones are operated manually by soldiers on the ground to bomb civilians – including children – to force them out of their homes or prevent them from returning to areas where Palestinians have been expelled, the outlets reported on Sunday.
The publications interviewed seven soldiers and officers to produce their findings, they said. The report was published as criticism of Israel’s plan to set up an internment camp in southern Gaza is growing.
Former Israeli Prime Ministers Yair Lapid and Ehud Olmert said it would amount to a “concentration camp” if Palestinians there are not allowed to leave.
“The weaponisation of civilian drones to kill and dispossess Palestinians is the latest revelation of the cruelties normalised in Gaza and further evidence of how Israel is trying to forcibly transfer the population to the south of the Strip,” Al Jazeera’s Nour Odeh said, reporting from Amman, Jordan, because Israel has banned Al Jazeera from reporting from Israel and the occupied West Bank.
Soldiers are using mostly Evo drones produced by the Chinese company Autel, which are sold commercially for about $3,000 and used by photographers, the investigation found.
“However, with a military-issued attachment known internally as an ‘iron ball’, a hand grenade can be affixed to the drone and dropped with the push of a button to detonate on the ground,” the report said, adding that a majority of Israeli military companies in Gaza use these drones.

IDF says it carried out strikes against several tanks in southern Syria
July 14, 2025 2:24 pm
The IDF says it carried out a strike a short while ago against several tanks near the Syrian village of Sami’, in the Sweida area of southern Syria.
It says further details will be provided soon.
In the same area, there have been deadly clashes between Bedouin tribes and Druze fighters in recent days. Israel has previously vowed to protect members of Syria’s Druze community.
The strike marks an apparent rare occurrence of Israel striking military forces of Syria’s new government.
Israeli officials have said that they seek to completely demilitarize the southern Syria area, and not allow any armed groups to enter it and gain a foothold, including those of the new Syrian government.

IDF seizes 3 tons of arms from ex-Assad regime sites; violence flares in southern Syria
13 July 2025, 10:52 pm
Defense Forces)
Israeli troops found more than three tons of weapons while raiding military facilities inside Syria. The sites had been maintained by the deposed Bashar al-Assad regime, the Israel Defense Forces said Sunday.
In the raids, which took place over the past week, reservists of the 810th Mountain Regional Brigade located at the peak of Mount Hermon, inside Syria, searched several “key headquarters” formerly belonging to the Assad regime’s commando forces, the IDF said.
The weapons found by troops included anti-tank mines, explosive devices, and rockets.
The IDF said its operations in the area were intended to prevent weapon smuggling into Lebanon from Syria.
Israeli troops have carried out a number of raids inside Syria in recent weeks, mostly targeting alleged members of Iran-sponsored cells stationed near the Golan frontier.
The military has also carried out airstrikes aimed at keeping Syrian weapons from falling into the hands of the Islamists who ousted Assad late last year.
The raids were announced as deadly sectarian violence flared in Druze areas of the Syrian side of the Golan, which Israel has previously acted to protect from Islamists.
Clashes broke out between Bedouin tribes and local fighters in the predominantly Druze city of Sweida on Sunday, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reporting 18 killed in the fighting, including 14 Druze and four Bedouin.
Local outlet Sweida 24 gave a preliminary toll of 10 people killed and 50 wounded across both sides. The outlet also reported the closure of the Damascus-Sweida highway due to the violence.
The government sent forces to de-escalate the situation. Sweida Governor Mustapha al-Bakur called on his constituents to “exercise self-restraint and respond to national calls for reform.”
Several Syrian Druze spiritual leaders have also called for calm and asked Damascus to intervene.
In April and May, clashes between the new government’s security forces and Druze fighters killed dozens of people, with local leaders and religious figures signing agreements to contain the escalation and better integrate Druze fighters into the new government.
During those clashes, Israel carried out a drone strike on an armed group preparing to attack a Druze community near Damascus, and Defense Minister Israel Katz told troops to be prepared to act in Syria in defense of the Druze.
Katz and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a message to Syria at the time that Israel “expects it to act to prevent harm to the Druze.”
Following the December overthrow of Assad, Syria’s longtime ruler, Israel sent troops into the United Nations-patrolled buffer zone that separated opposing forces on the strategic Golan Heights, from which it had conducted forays into southern Syria.
Troops have been operating in areas up to around 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) into Syria, aiming to capture weapons that Israel says could pose a threat to the country if they fall into the hands of “hostile forces.”
Immediately after Assad’s ouster, Israel also carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Syria to prevent key military assets from coming under the control of the administration headed by Sharaa.
Officials from Syria and Israel have held discussions over that military presence in recent weeks, and, in June, a senior Israeli official said the sides were in “advanced talks” to end hostilities, even as Jerusalem has taken a cautious approach toward the country’s new Islamist leadership.
The two countries have formally been in a state of war since Israel’s establishment in 1948, and last fought a major conflict in the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
A meeting this past weekend in Azerbaijan between Syrian and Israeli officials was reportedly to focus on the IDF presence in Syria.
Sharaa, who was in Baku, the capital, to discuss energy cooperation with Azerbaijani leaders, did not attend the meeting with the Israelis.
In addition, on Sunday, the Syrian Interior Ministry announced that it had arrested a Hezbollah operative who was planning terrorist attacks.
Hezbollah, the Lebanese terror group that is sworn to Israel’s destruction, was a chief ally of Assad’s regime.
The ministry named the operative as Mahmoud Fadl, saying he was in possession of ready-to-use explosives that he intended to deploy for terrorist attacks in the area.
According to the statement, Fadl belonged to a Hezbollah cell that was active in Syria.

University, FAA Team Up on UAP Reporting
14 Jul 2025 8:14 pm
The University of Würzburg and the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt are cooperating in researching unusual phenomena in airspace. Pilots can report relevant observations to the university.
There are many reports from pilots who have sighted unknown flying objects or strange light or weather phenomena in the atmosphere while flying. Science uses the generic term Unidentified Anomalous
Phenomena (UAP) for such phenomena - a definition that goes further than the previously used term UFO (Unidentified Flying Object).
UAPs are a global field of research. Despite numerous credible sightings, much is still unknown about the nature and origin of the phenomena.
"Systematic investigations are crucial in order to collect reliable data, analyze it scientifically and gain sound knowledge from it," says Hakan Kayal, Professor of Space Technology and Head of the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Extraterrestrial Studies (IFEX) at the University of Würzburg.
Among other things, IFEX is dedicated to scientific research into UAP. To gain new knowledge in this field, the research center recently set up a website where pilots can report unusual observations.
The German Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA) supports this approach: it will therefore set up a link to the Würzburg IFEX reporting form on its website under the navigation "Incident reports of all kinds".
As Hakan Kayal announces, the IFEX team will gradually expand the reporting form. Among other things, it will be integrated into a database and enable the upload of images and videos.

$10M Country Star’s “Crazy” UFO Story Leaves Joe Rogan in Absolute Awe
Jul 13, 2025 | 4:02 PM CDT
Joe Rogan’s podcast has always been a place where the weirdest and most polarizing topics come to life. The podcast king’s curiosity and hunger to explore the unknown are the real backbone behind its appeal to millions of listeners.
And of course, some of the wild stories shared by his guests only add to that magic mix. This time, the UFC color commentator was left with his mouth wide open after hearing an outer world story.
Lukas Nelson, the American country singer boasting a $10 million net worth as reported by Citimuzik, made an appearance in the latest episode of the Joe Rogan Experience.
Their conversation fired up with a diverse array of captivating topics about this world. Things heated up when the two jumped into a discussion about UFOs and alien technology.
The podcast king’s ultimate favorite topics to dive into.
Rogan stated, “So, a lot of the photographs of these things are blurry. It might be that these things exist in some sort of gravity-like void. What you’re seeing is exactly not there.
What you’re seeing is like a dirty windshield.” His theory was soon followed by Nelson’s personal experience, where he claimed to have seen orange orbs floating in the air while hanging out with friends in Maui, Hawaii.
“I’ve seen some stuff. When I was in Maui, twice I’ve seen something that I couldn’t explain. One time when I looked up, nine of us were hanging out.
And we all looked up to see an orange orb, and it looked like it was a hundred yards away. Maybe 200, floating, kind of observing.” Nelson said.
That’s a shocking experience. While there’s still plenty of skepticism among people about aliens and their existence, stories like Lukas Nelson’s keep popping up time and again.
Many have reported witnessing similar unexplained phenomena. But that’s not all, Rogan dives even deeper into the topic, suggesting that aliens might be observing humans from the ocean.
So, let’s take a look at what he has to say.
Joe Rogan presents the theory of Aliens observing humans from the ocean
No matter your stance on the existence of aliens, you can’t deny Rogan’s theory packs a punch! After a certain depth, the ocean plunges into darkness, providing the perfect cover for aliens to establish their base without detection.
Given that, what’s your take on this bold theory? Are you also into alien conspiracies? Let us know your thoughts! Do you stand with Rogan or take a different stance? Drop a comment below!
Rogan at the On episode #2348 added, “Well, the vast majority of the ocean floor is unexplored. So, this is the theory if you were going to set up a base here to observe human beings, if you’d came from somewhere else.
You’d probably do it in the ocean. Especially the kind of technology that allowed them to travel here from other star systems would also allow them to not be intimidated whatsoever.”
Whether or not you believe aliens exist, you’ve got to give it to Rogan — it’s a pretty solid theory!
And it’s also true that after a certain point, there’s no light in the ocean, so aliens could easily make their base without getting noticed.

Aliens are already here…they are intelligent but have a dark side and operate on us
Updated: 23:07 EDT, 13 July 2025
Users of a naturally occurring psychedelic drug are convinced they've encountered real alien beings, including 'machine elves,' which inhabit a realm beyond our Earth.
These machine elves, described as chattering, mischievous entities, consistently appear in the visions of those who take DMT, which one neuroscientist suggested could mean users are actually entering a shared alien reality.
DMT (or N,N-Dimethyltryptamine) is present in thousands of plants, including ayahuasca, which is used in religious ceremonies, but is also present in small amounts within the human body.
Dr Andrew Gallimore, who has a PhD was in biological chemistry and has studied computational neuroscience, said he encountered these beings firsthand after being transported to a hyper-dimensional world teeming with intelligent lifeforms.
Unlike earthly creatures, these beings - ranging from insectoids to God-like figures -seem to exist in a space that defies our three-dimensional understanding.
Gallimore's encounters with these alien intelligences have convinced him that they are not mere drug hallucinations but may represent a genuine presence accessible through DMT.
The consistency of these visions among DMT users, where no human or animal forms appear, has raised profound questions about whether these aliens are already here, embedded in an unseen dimension.
Gallimore added that DMT may act as a key, unlocking this hidden world where these advanced intelligences await, potentially holding answers to their purpose on Earth.
With most psychedelic drugs, such as LSD, people's experiences are very different each time, unlike the reported experiences of those on DMT, where there are strange similarities.
Dr Gallimore described his first trip on the drug, having put a small amount of powder in a glass pipe and smoked it.
'Within a few seconds, the normal waking world is obliterated and replaced with an entirely novel, what can only be described as alien reality, highly complex, hyper dimensional, quite abundantly and quite obviously populated, by extremely intelligent and advanced beings,' Gallimore described.
The scientist added that the creatures he saw were 'non-human, non-animal beings' that were not from this world.
He claimed that DMT differs from other drugs because, rather than altering reality, you find yourself in a new world, taken to an alien reality.
Famous psychedelics researcher Terence McKenna described the drug as a 'reality channel switch.' Gallimore believes that one way to understand how psychedelics work is through computational models of the brain.
According to the neuroscientist, taking drugs like DMT switches the brain to constructing an alternate waking world model, allowing it to access information it normally does not have.
This differs from our 'normal' experiences of the world, which rely on the brain constructing a model of the environment using sensory information, such as sight, smell, and taste.
1/1
In simpler terms, Gallimore doesn't think the drug is transporting people to another planet. Instead, it's allowing people to see what the normal range of human brain activity is unable to process - including beings living in other dimensions on Earth.
'You don't have to travel anywhere. I'm not saying your consciousness is going somewhere. All that's happening if you are interacting with some kind of alternate intelligence is the DMT has to somehow allow an alternate source of information to enter the brain,' Gallimore said.
Gallimore added that in his many interviews and interactions with users of DMT, he has spoken to several people who have encountered the tiny 'machine elves.'
'Probably the most famous of all are these multitudinous, giggling machine elf type beings, and these very small creatures that operate in great numbers and are generally very lively, cheeky, jovial, mischievous,' Gallimore revealed.
'They sing impossible objects into existence. They speak in some kind of visible language,' he added.
Meanwhile, the insectoid beings have a 'dark side,' seeming to perform 'psychic surgery' on some DMT users. Others creatures seemed 'more like Gods' according to the scientist.
'It's impossible to put into words, but beings that seem to be constructed from more than three dimensions, that are quite obviously, inordinately more complex than any other kind of intelligent being that you are ever going to encounter in this universe,' Gallimore described.
In his book, Death By Astonishment: Confronting the Mystery of the World’s Strangest Drug,’ Gallimore said that he does not know where these beings are, but has a sense that it is a realm that is trillions of years older than our universe, and the beings are billions of years more advanced than us.
He said that the 'space' in which the entities are discovered feels like a 'higher dimensional structure,' as if someone who had lived in a two-dimensional world suddenly gained access to 3D space.
Gallimore has now devoted himself full-time to researching the drug, and said that while there is a lot of academic work with DMT and brain imaging, many researchers are 'counter cultural.'
He said that he hopes to one day fully understand 'where' the DMT experience takes people.
'We don't know the relationship between our universe and this place, whether it's parallel in some way, whether we are kind of a lower dimensional slice of some higher dimensional structure.
We don't know where this place is or our relationship to it,' Gallimore admitted.
