Ukrainian cyberattack 'paralyzes' major Russian drone supplier, source claims

July 15, 2025 6:01 pm

Ukraine's military intelligence (HUR) has "paralyzed" operations at Gaskar Group, one of the largest drone suppliers to the Russian military, a source within the agency told the Kyiv Independent on July 15.

The cyberattack was reportedly carried out in coordination with Ukrainian cyber volunteers and targeted Gaskar's internal network and server infrastructure.

According to the source, HUR gained access to over 47 terabytes of technical data related to the production of Russian drones. All data stored on the company’s servers was allegedly destroyed.

"The stolen data includes confidential questionnaires of the company's employees, and most importantly, full technical documentation on the production of drones, which was handed over to the relevant specialists of the Ukrainian Defense Forces," the source claimed.

They added that the cyberattack disabled Gaskar Group’s internet services, production software, and accounting systems, effectively crippling operations at its development center.

The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify these claims. As of publication, Gaskar Group’s website remained operational.

Throughout Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine and Russia have heavily invested in drone technology, revolutionizing warfare, including drones.

Russian forces also launch hundreds of drones nearly every night at Ukraine, targeting civilian areas and critical infrastructure.

Cyberattacks have been widely used by both Ukraine and Russia during the full-scale war.

Russian hackers have regularly targeted various Ukrainian government institutions as well as businesses with crippling cyberattacks aimed at disrupting numerous industries and government services.

Russia Moves to Centralize Mobile Internet Shutdowns Amid Rise in Ukrainian Drone Attacks

July 15, 2025

Russia is preparing nationwide regulations that would centralize the authority to shut down mobile internet access as outages due to Ukrainian drone attacks have become a regular occurrence across the country, the pro-Kremlin daily Izvestia reported Tuesday, citing government and telecom industry sources.

The Digital Development Ministry is reportedly in talks with telecommunications operators to streamline the shutdown procedure and designate a single state body responsible for managing mobile network blackouts.

Currently, a broad range of entities including regional authorities, emergency services and security agencies are authorized to request mobile internet shutdowns.

The result, one source told Izvestia, has been a surge in disorganized and often excessive disruptions, especially in response to the growing number of drone attacks across the country.

"Due to the current security environment and a rise in drone attacks, the number of entities authorized to issue such shutdown orders has grown significantly," the source told Izvestia.

In many cases, requests are funneled from regional officials to Moscow for legitimacy checks, delaying action and sometimes leading to internet blackouts in areas that do not require them while failing to restrict access in more critical zones.

Until recently, shutdown authority was primarily held by the security services and state communications watchdog Roskomnadzor and were typically reserved for major public events or counterterrorism operations.

But the past few months have seen a sharp uptick in regional orders, particularly since May, when Ukrainian drone attacks intensified and triggered widespread outages in several regions.

Russia experienced 655 mobile internet shutdowns in June alone, more than double the total number of shutdowns recorded worldwide during all of 2024, according to independent communications watchdog Na Svyazi.

The outages have disrupted a range of essential services, from emergency communications to online banking and transit operations.

The Russian-based Internet Protection Society estimates that a single day of nationwide mobile internet shutdowns could result in financial losses amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars.

Karen Kazaryan, director of the Internet Research Institute, told Izvestia that streamlining the shutdown procedure could help protect users from unwarranted disruptions and reduce unnecessary work for operators.

He added that appointing a single authority to issue such directives is a reasonable step.

Drone attack shuts US-run oil field in Iraqi Kurdistan

15 July, 2025

A drone strike forced a US company to suspend operations at an oil field in Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region on Tuesday, the latest in a string of attacks targeting the region's energy infrastructure.

The Kurdistan Regional Government said the Sarsang oil field in Duhok province was hit, denouncing the strike "an act of terrorism against the Kurdistan Region's vital economic infrastructure".

The attack followed similar drone strikes a day earlier on an airport hosting US troops and another on an oil field in neighbouring Erbil province.

HKN Energy, the US firm operating the Sarsang site, said the blast occurred at about 7:00 am (0400 GMT) at one of its production facilities.

"Operations at the affected facility have been suspended until the site is secured," it said in a statement.

A fire broke out but caused no casualties. HKN Energy said emergency teams later contained the blaze.

In the past few weeks, Iraq - particularly the Kurdistan region - has seen a spate of unclaimed drone and rocket attacks.

Long plagued by conflict, Iraq frequently experiences such attacks, often linked to regional proxy struggles between Iran and the United States and its ally Israel.

The US embassy in Baghdad denounced "the recent drone attacks throughout Iraq", including strikes on "critical infrastructure" at oil fields in Kurdistan.

"These attacks are unacceptable," the embassy said on social media platform X, urging Baghdad to investigate.

The Iraqi government "must exercise its authority to prevent armed actors from launching these attacks against sites… including locations where Iraqi and international companies have invested in Iraq's future," it added.

'Unacceptable'

The explosion in Sarsang field came a day after three explosive-laden drone attacks were reported in Kurdistan.

In one of them, a drone was shot down near Erbil airport, which hosts US troops, while two others hit the Khurmala oil field, causing material damage.

There has been no claim of responsibility for those attacks.

But on July 3, the Kurdistan authorities said a drone was downed near Erbil airport and blamed the Hashed al-Shaabi - a coalition of pro-Iran former paramilitaries now integrated into the regular armed forces.

The federal government in Baghdad rejected the accusation.

The latest attacks come at a time of heightened tension between Baghdad and Erbil over oil exports, with a major pipeline through Turkey shut since 2023 over legal disputes and technical issues.

In May, Iraq's federal authorities filed a complaint against the autonomous Kurdistan region for signing gas contracts with two US companies, including HKN Energy.

Iraq slammed the deals, saying all oil and gas development must be conducted through the federal government.

A few hours after Tuesday's drone attack, Iraq's oil ministry announced an initial agreement with HKN Energy to develop the Hamrin oil field in Salaheddin province.

After signing the agreement, Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdel Ghani said Baghdad was looking forward to cooperating with US companies in the oil and gas sector.

There are some 2,500 US troops in Iraq as part of the international coalition against the Islamic State group.

India Launches Drone Attacks On Separatist Bases In Myanmar – OpEd

July 15, 2025

Separatist rebels from India’s northeastern state of Assam say four of their bases inside Myanmar were attacked by combat drones launched by the Indian Army early on Sunday.

A press statement from the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) said about 100 combat drones were launched between 2 am and 4 am local time from Indian Army bases on the Myanmar border.

“The drones hit four of our bases. One of our top commander Nayan Medhi (Asom) was killed and 19 of our fighters were injured,” the statement issued by ULFA media cell said. The press statement said one drone hit the camp where Nayan Medhi was being cremated.

But an Indian military spokesman in Northeast, Col Mahendra Singh Rawat denied any knowledge of the drone strikes, saying, “We have no input about any such attacks.”

However, some Myanmar sources confirmed the drone strikes, but could not provide details of casualties.

They said the bases hit were shared by the ULFA rebels of Assam and the Revolutionary People’s Front ( RPF) of the neighbouring state of Manipur.

While some separatist groups in Northeast are involved in ceasefire and dialogues with the Indian government, the ULFA and RPF’s military wing PLA have continued to attack Indian security forces.

The Indian Army has occasionally crossed into Myanmar to strike at these rebel bases, but such operations by special forces had limited effect because the bases are located in very remote difficult hilly jungle terrain.

One such highly publicized operation following a rebel attack on an Indian military convoy led to protests from the Myanmar government.

The Myanmar army, which is fighting multiple domestic insurgencies within the country, have no effective control of these remote locations in Sagaing Division where the bases of Northeast Indian rebels are located.

But under pressure from India, they have occasionally launched attacks on these bases in the past few years.

But after the Myanmar civil war escalated after November 2023, the Burmese army has been forced to fight its own rebel groups who have taken over nearly half of the country’s territory.

Analysts say one of India’s long term agenda in Myanmar is to deny border areas of that country to be used by northeastern rebels.

Now equipped with modern technology options like combat drones, the Indian military may have decided to launch surgical strikes on these bases depending on credible intelligence inputs from satellites and human assets.

But owing up to such strikes may raise allegations of India violating Myanmar sovereignty — hence the decision of any knowledge of the drone strikes. Rebel groups usually don’t admit suffering casualties because that adversely impacts on their morale.

The success of such strikes against Pakistan-based terror groups may have encouraged the Indian military to launch drone strikes. Such strikes carry the element of deniability, unlike action by special forces.

Akinci drone downed in Sudan

July 15, 2025

On July 10, 2025, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan announced that they had shot down a Turkish-made Akinci drone belonging to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) over El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur.

According to RSF spokesperson Al-Fateh Qarashi, the drone was brought down last Thursday after carrying out a series of airstrikes that the RSF claims indiscriminately targeted civilian areas.

The statement detailed how the bombings struck residential zones, hospitals, schools, and camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Zamzam, Kuma, and Mellit, painting a grim picture of the toll these operations have taken on the local population.

This event is the latest development in a brutal conflict between the SAF and the RSF that has ravaged Sudan since mid-2023, with both sides vying for control in a war that has already claimed at least 150,000 lives and displaced millions.

The Akinci drone, a product of Baykar, Turkey’s largest defence contractor, represents a leap forward in unmanned aerial technology. Known as a high-altitude long-endurance (HALE) unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV), it is built for versatility, capable of executing air-to-ground and air-to-air combat missions. With a payload capacity exceeding 1,350 kg, the Akinci can carry an array of weapons, including laser-guided smart munitions, missiles like the SOM cruise missile, and air-to-air missiles.

Its advanced systems include a multi-role active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, a SAR/GMTI radar, a wide-area surveillance system, electronic warfare capabilities, and satellite communication tools, making it well-suited for reconnaissance, surveillance, and precision strikes.

For the SAF, its sophisticated drone fleet has been a vital tool in maintaining control over contested regions, particularly in Darfur, where the RSF has been pressing its campaign to seize El Fasher, a city under siege since mid-May 2024.

The RSF’s push to capture El Fasher carries both strategic and symbolic weight. Having already secured four of Darfur’s five states, the paramilitary group views the city as a critical prize in its broader effort to dominate the region.

The SAF, in response, has leaned heavily on its aerial arsenal, deploying drones like the Akinci to strike RSF supply lines, artillery units, and strongholds in areas such as Nyala, Al-Fashir, Geneina, and Kordofan.

The downing of this particular drone could signal a shift in the conflict’s dynamics, especially if the RSF proves capable of consistently countering the SAF’s air superiority.

This incident also lays bare the intricate web of international involvement fueling the war.

Yemeni army launches drone toward Red Sea Eilat port in fresh anti-Israeli operation

Update: Tuesday, 15 July 2025 11:16 AM

Yemen’s Armed Forces have launched a homegrown combat drone toward the city of Eilat in the southernmost tip of the occupied Palestinian territories in their most recent anti-Israeli operation.

The Israeli military asserted in a statement that it had intercepted the unmanned aerial vehicle as it was flying in the skies over the Red Sea city.

There were no reports of injuries or damage, and the spokesman for the Yemeni military, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, did not immediately comment.

The development came a few days after the leader of Yemen’s Ansarullah resistance movement declared that reopening the Port of Eilat (Umm al-Rashrash) is impossible, affirming his country’s firm stance and ongoing decision to enforce maritime sanctions against the Israeli occupation regime in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Arabian Sea.

In a televised speech on Thursday, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi emphasized that the recent events in the Red Sea serve as a clear warning to all shipping companies operating for the Israeli regime, stressing that any vessels affiliated with Israel will face decisive responses.

He was referring to the Yemeni navy’s strike on the vessel ETERNITY C bound for the port of Eilat in occupied Palestine after the crew repeatedly disregarded naval warnings.

Also, earlier this week, the Yemeni armed forces released footage of the boarding and sinking of the ship Magic Seas, whose owning company violated the Yemeni ban on Israel-bound vessels.

The Red Sea, which borders Yemen’s coast, is a critical waterway for oil and commodities, but Yemen’s armed forces have banned the entry of Israel-bound ships since November 2023 in solidarity with Gaza and after Israel began its campaign of genocide in Gaza.

As the genocidal war on Gaza escalated, the Yemenis enforced a strategic blockade on essential maritime routes, with the goal of obstructing the delivery of military supplies to Israel and urging the international community to take action regarding the ongoing humanitarian emergency in Gaza.

The Yemeni Armed Forces have declared they will not stop their assaults unless Israel ceases its ground and aerial offensives in Gaza.

Suspect Arrested for Using Drone to Spy on Walla Walla University Dorms

July 15, 2025

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – A year-long investigation by authorities has led to the arrest of a man accused of using a drone to record images through windows of a women’s dormitory at Walla Walla University and nearby residences.

Ira Ross Wright, 60, was taken into custody last week and booked into the Walla Walla Corrections Facility on two counts of first-degree voyeurism, according to a statement released by the College Place Police Department.

Drone Activity Reported Near Walla Walla University

The investigation initially began in early 2024 when reports were received about a drone flying around the women’s dormitories on the Walla Walla University campus, reports the Tri-City Herald.

Authorities opened a formal inquiry shortly after receiving these reports, which also referenced drone sightings in the surrounding residential areas.

Campus security recently recovered a downed drone near the college campus, which turned out to be a key breakthrough in the investigation.

According to College Place police, data retrieved from the recovered drone provided evidence tying Wright to the alleged offenses.

he recovered media included images of individuals engaged in “private activities” within the dormitories and neighboring homes, reports the Elkhorn Media Group.

Officers were able to identify victims based on the recorded data, initiating further steps in the investigation.

Search Leads to Arrest and Evidence Recovery

Police executed a search warrant at Wright’s home around 4 p.m. on July 8. During the search, officers recovered several data storage devices that are now being reviewed for evidence of additional victims or potential charges.

Public records indicate that Wright was employed as a service worker at John Sager Middle School during the 2023-24 academic year.

Wright appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday and was subsequently released. He is scheduled to return to court on July 21 to enter a plea to the Class C felonies.

The charges Wright faces, first-degree voyeurism, are classified as Class C felonies under Washington state law. If convicted, they carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine per count.

Illegal Drone Use a Growing Problem

Although comprehensive national data on drone-related voyeurism is unavailable, the issue is recognized and appears to be worsening.

Despite the enactment of stringent state laws, illegal drone activity has not only persisted but has become more prevalent in recent years.

Notably, in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle contacted the Los Angeles Police Department multiple times to report drones being used to spy on them, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Drones have also impacted on-location film sets, as well as well as sporting events and medical facilities.

Drone caught dropping large package inside walls of major UK prison

19:04, 15 Jul 2025

Footage had been captured of a drone dropping a large package inside the walls of HMP Wandsworth last month.

In exclusive shots obtained by the BBC and filmed by Newsnight, it’s possible to see the large package being dropped into the south London prison in the early hours of June 21.

The package was delivered to the category B jail – that houses prisoners including sex offenders and terrorists – at 3:30 in the morning. Images show the drone carrying a large package at the end of a long string which it dropped inside the prison walls before it flew off.

HMP Wandsworth has been plagued by various scandals including an officer who was jailed last year for making X-rated content with an inmate.

Commenting on the drone footage, President of the Prison Governors Association, Tom Wheatley said that drone drops were “happening every day”. He said: “This probably started around 2012, 2013.

We started to see contraband entry in prisons by drones around that time and now this is happening every day … it's happening on multiple occasions in some prisons during a 24-hour period and in multiple prisons around the country on the same evening.

'It is shocking because we have been able to rely on the measures that we normally take to prevent things coming into prison. So: searching of people; restrictions about access to prisons. We've been able to deal with the way that criminals try to get drugs into prison.

'We've basically now got a gaping hole in our ability to prevent that, and drugs coming into prison don't just cause harm to prisoners who take them, there's a whole illicit economy - and violence and enforcement - that goes with that, that make prisons less safe and us less likely to be able to rehabilitate people in them.”

The government said it was taking action, with £10m being spent on anti-drone measures, but would not comment on this specific footage.

German Court Dismisses Yemeni Drone Strike Case

Updated: 15-07-2025 16:37

Germany's constitutional court ruled on Tuesday that Berlin does not need to intervene in U.S. drone activities at the Ramstein air base, located in southwestern Germany.

The decision dismisses a complaint brought by Yemeni nationals who lost family members in a 2012 U.S. drone strike.

The Yemeni plaintiffs argued that Germany was partly responsible for the deaths because the drone missions were allegedly supported from Ramstein.

The court, however, concluded that Germany's general duty to protect human rights was not triggered and that the U.S. actions conformed to international law.

The ruling was welcomed by Germany's foreign and defense ministries, while the Yemeni plaintiffs criticized it as sending a dangerous message of non-accountability for states backing U.S. drone programs.

The case underscores the complexities of international military alliances and legal responsibility.

Hochul joins NYPD in urging federal action on drones before 2026 World Cup

Jul 15, 2025 at 8:01 a.m. ET

New York is urging President Donald Trump to expand state authority to counter potentially hostile drones and warning that the federal government is not prepared to handle a potential drone attack.

That’s according to a letter sent Monday by Gov. Kathy Hochul. The letter follows similar calls from NYPD officials earlier this month and comes after several unexplained drone sightings in New York and New Jersey last summer that alarmed residents.

Hochul also cited Ukraine’s successful drone strike on Russian air forces in June as evidence of the evolving danger these systems pose to critical infrastructure.

"The reality is that the federal government is unprepared and poorly postured to detect and mitigate UAS threats and states are hamstrung by a lack of legislative authority," Hochul wrote, using an acronym for unmanned aircraft systems.

A White House spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Last month, Trump signed an executive order signaling he may soon grant more authority to local agencies to detect and intercept drones.

In her letter, Hochul called for a comprehensive federal strategy to improve drone detection nationwide and urged that state and local governments be granted authority to detect and disable drones themselves.

She also warned that current counter-drone powers granted to the Department of Homeland Security and FBI are set to expire at the end of the summer.

Hochul cited several high-profile events in 2026 as potential “prime targets,” including the World Cup, a tall ships flotilla, an international naval review and America’s 250th birthday celebration.

"These detection and mitigation measures must first protect critical infrastructure like population centers, utilities, and military assets," she said.

The NYPD has also lobbied Congress and the White House for the authority to disable drones, a power currently limited to a few federal agencies.

Ahead of this year’s Fourth of July celebration, NYPD leaders said they were hopeful a June 6 executive order from Trump could eventually grant local agencies those powers.

Under current law, only the departments of Homeland Security, Justice, Defense and Energy are authorized to use drone mitigation technology.

For now, local police must rely on those federal agencies to take down threatening drones.

US probes imports on drones and a raw material used in chips and solar panels

Tue, Jul 15, 2025, 6:15 AM PDT

The Department of Commerce has opened national security investigations into imports of drones and polysilicon, a raw material used in chips and solar panels.

Among other things, officials are looking into "predatory trade practices" and the capacity of other countries to "weaponize their control over supplies" of drones, drone parts and polysilicon, as well as derivatives of each.

The DoC commenced the investigations on July 1, but has only just disclosed them publicly.

The probes could lead to the US imposing yet more tariffs on imports, which would drive up prices of drones and products that use polysilicon.

Per notices that are being published in the Federal Register, officials will consider "whether additional measures, including tariffs or quotas, are necessary to protect national security."

President Donald Trump has used the same legal process as these investigations to apply tariffs to imports of steel and aluminium (50 percent), cars and car parts (25 percent) and copper (50 percent as of August 1).

There are other investigations underway into the likes of semiconductors, consumer electronics, aerospace components and pharmaceuticals. They're being conducted under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act.

According to The Financial Times, China is the leading market for polysilicon manufacturing. Around three quarters of all commercial drones are said to be manufactured in the country too.

Under the Biden administration, the US increased tariffs on solar wafers and polysilicon imports from China to 50 percent at the start of 2025. DJI also faces a potential ban in the US.

US must streamline drone process to counter cartel drones on the border, lawmaker says

July 15, 2025

McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — As Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the United States will cut red tape to get more military drones up in the air, a border lawmaker says that also needs to happen to get more drones up along the Southwest border by the Department of Homeland Security.

Hegseth last week announced in a video posted to X a major overhaul in the U.S. military drone policy.

He said the Pentagon is cutting “red tape” to speed up drone production. And he wants service members from all military branches trained in drone operations.

U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, recently told Border Report that the procurement process for DHS border law enforcement is also cumbersome and slow and that Mexican cartels are able to launch thousands of drones over the U.S. border because they pay for them with cash.

“We’re at a disadvantage in many ways when it comes to the drones used by the cartels,” said Cuellar, who sits on the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, and the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.

“Drones are something that we need to use more of the drones, because we’ve seen, all the possibilities and opportunities that drones can provide,” he said.

“The U.S. has to do a better job at using drones, but also countering drones and the procurement process is part of the issue that we need to address.

The the cartels don’t go through a procurement process. They have the money go by and, boom, use them. That’s what they use.

That’s their procurement process. Ours’, you know, you got to go and, you know, there’s a whole process, and it takes such a long time.”

On June 11, President Donald Trump issued an executive order to accelerate domestic drone production.

The order secured supply chains, and reduces reliance on adversarial nations to “empower our domestic drone economy to assist with critical infrastructure, emergency response, and long-distance cargo and medical delivery.”

The executive order also mentions border surveillance and says the United States will “address the growing threats from criminal, terrorist, and foreign misuse of drones inside U.S. airspace.

This administration is securing our borders against aerial threats by cracking down on unlawful drone activity and prioritizing real-time detection and identification of drones to safeguard national security.”

“Hegseth says he is lifting “restrictive policies that stifle production and this will unleash American manufacturing and the ingenuity of our war fighters.”

He said the United States will immediately begin producing thousands of drones and arm combat units with “low-cost American crafted drones” with regards to military operations.

“This is the future,” Hegseth said on the video that was made in front of the Pentagon with several drones buzzing about him. “We’re in the fight to win it.”

Several Stryker military units that last week arrived in the South Texas border to the Laredo area along with hundreds of new soldiers have equipment to detect and counter Mexican drones, Cuellar said.

It’s unclear whether the procurement process for drones also will be streamlined for the Department of Homeland Security.

Border Report has asked DHS officials if this will occur and if more drones will be launched on the Southwest border. This story will be updated if information is received.

Meanwhile, a sheriff’s department in Cochise County, Arizona, says it plans to use drones to help its deputies patrol areas near the Mexican border.

They hope to launch their first drones this fall and site the president’s executive order as encouraging the development and commercializing of American unmanned aerial systems or UAVs.

IDF destroys terror infrastructure in Gaza's Beit Hanun, Khan Yunis

JULY 15, 2025 21:55

Soldiers from the IDF’s Givati Brigade, under the 162nd Division, as well as the 646th and Northern Gaza Brigades, under the 99th Division, operated in Gaza’s Beit Hanun, killing dozens of terrorists and dismantling terror infrastructure, the military confirmed on Tuesday.

Givati Brigade soldiers, along with IDF Combat Engineers, dismantled a launcher used by Hamas terrorists to fire rockets towards Israel, the military added.

646th Brigade reservists located an explosives site and coordinated with an Israel Air Force aircraft to strike and dismantle it, the military confirmed.

Northern Gaza Brigade soldiers also coordinated with the IAF to kill an armed terrorist carrying weapons in Beit Hanun.

Additionally, soldiers from the IDF’s Kfir Brigade and Yahalom Combat Engineers, operating under the IDF’s 36th Division, mapped and destroyed a terror tunnel complex in the Gaza Strip’s Khan Yunis, the military confirmed in a separate statement on Tuesday.

The tunnel complex was approximately 3.5 km long and contained several tunnels, which included sleeping quarters for terrorists, the military noted.

Kfir Brigade soldiers also destroyed an explosive storage facility and located weapons in the area, seizing them, the military added.

Further, the IDF published footage of IAF fighter jet pilots conducting strikes against terrorists from Hezbollah’s Radwan Force in south Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley earlier on Tuesday.

The targets struck included training camps and ammunition storage centers, The Jerusalem Post previously reported.

Additionally, the IDF published video footage showing strikes conducted on Syria's security forces amid clashes with the Druze population in Sweida, southern Syria.

Canada’s top scientist releases new UFO report, here’s what you need to know

July 15, 2025 at 2:04PM EDT

The Canadian government’s top scientist has released a new report on unidentified flying objects.

Published Monday, the report from the Office of the Chief Science Advisor of Canada recommends the creation of a new federal body to standardize, collect and investigate UFO reports.

“The mystery of unidentified phenomena in the sky has long fascinated humanity, capturing the public imagination and arousing both skepticism and curiosity,” the new report states.

“Together, the analysis presented in this report suggests that Canada would benefit from an improved process for reporting, collecting, and studying UAP sightings.”

The acronym UAP stands for “unidentified aerial (or anomalous) phenomena,” which has largely replaced the terms “UFO” and “unidentified flying objects” in official circles.

After decades of dismissal and denials, the unusual subject has become the focus of recent investigations by both the Pentagon and NASA.

Known as the Sky Canada Project, the Office of the Chief Science Advisor of Canada launched its UAP research effort in 2022 and released a preliminary report in January.

Cardiovascular scientist Dr. Mona Nemer has been Canada’s chief science advisor since the role was created in 2017.

Tasked with providing impartial scientific advice to the government, Nemer reports directly to the prime minister and minister of innovation, science and industry.

“Our goal was to find the current resources and processes in place for handling and following up on UAP reports, to compare them with the best practices in other countries, and to make recommendations for potential improvements,” Nemer said in the new report’s introduction.

“The preparation of this report has garnered more public anticipation than any project in the history of this office.”

CTVNews.ca was provided an advance copy of the latest Sky Canada Project report, which has been titled “Management of Public Reporting of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena in Canada.”

From the report’s recommendations to Canada’s history of investigating UAP, here are five key takeaways:

It’s time for Canada to investigate UAP reports

The report urges Canada to “establish a dedicated service” to standardize, collect and investigate UAP reports.

“A federal department or agency responsible for managing public UAP data should be identified,” the report recommends. “This service would collect testimonies, investigate cases and post its analyses publicly.”

The report specifically points to the Canadian Space Agency as a “trusted” scientific organization that could lead this new effort in collaboration with government and academic partners.

It also says Canadian aviation officials should do more when flight crews file UAP reports.

“Transport Canada should encourage pilots, cabin crews and air traffic controllers to report UAP sightings without fear of stigmatization,” the report advised.

Other recommendations include combatting disinformation, making UAP records available to the public and creating tools for data collection, like a bilingual reporting app.

“Improved data from public reports will enable more comprehensive and accurate research analyses,” the report said.

“Investigating UAP reports may also enhance airspace security by identifying threats, thus strengthening national security through the proactive mitigation of risks from UAPs.”

It remains to be seen if the federal government will implement any of the Sky Canada Project’s recommendations.

“The Sky Canada Project recommendations provide a realistic framework for the consistent and efficient management of UAP sightings in Canada,” Nemer said in a statement to CTVNews.ca.

“I am confident that our leaders will take these recommendations seriously. ”In statements to CTVNews.ca, officials from Transport Canada and the Canadian Space Agency said more time is needed to determine next steps.

Both previously told CTVNews.ca that UAP reports typically fall outside their mandates.

“The [Canadian Space Agency] is pleased to be recognized in the report as a trusted and respected scientific institution that regularly engages with the public on space-related matters,” a space agency spokesperson added.

“Although the [Canadian Space Agency] is not currently involved in the management of unidentified anomalous phenomena, it acknowledges the opportunity for coordinated action across federal departments and civilian organizations.”

Credible UAP reports are often overlooked

The Sky Canada Project flagged several government departments and agencies that routinely receive UAP reports, including Transport Canada, the Department of National Defence, the Canadian Space Agency and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

“However, few of these organizations are currently investigating these sightings unless they pertain to specific aspects of their respective mandates, such as national security, transportation safety or public safety, and those instances are fairly rare,” the new report explained.

Such UAP reports have been filed by everyone from professional pilots to police officers, soldiers and members of the public.

The Sky Canada Project estimates there could be as many as 1,000 sightings per year in Canada.

“Reports from pilots, military personnel and civilians alike describe at times the sightings of strange lights, unusually moving objects, or phenomena in the sky for which no immediate explanation can be provided,” the report said.

“Reporting witnesses were often met with skepticism and ridicule, leading to negative perceptions and arbitrary judgments being cast upon them.

Stigmatization can have significant consequences, such as discouraging witnesses from coming forward and hindering scientific inquiry.”

In a statement to CTVNews.ca, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesperson welcomed the Sky Canada Project’s recommendations and said the RCMP is “often the first point of contact when members of the public observe something unusual or concerning.”

“A centralized, science-led service would help ensure that reports are handled consistently and transparently and would allow law enforcement agencies like the RCMP to focus on our core mandate while still contributing relevant information, when appropriate,” the RCMP spokesperson added.

“While UAPs are not a focus of police operations, we have historically received such reports and will continue to share relevant information with the appropriate authorities.”

Canada’s Department of National Defence did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Sky Canada Project noted that the “type of response and the level of engagement varied from one organization to another.”

“In general, our colleagues in the federal government have been cooperative,” Nemer told CTVNews.ca. “Unfortunately, they often had very little to share.”

This isn’t the first time Canada researched UAP

The Sky Canada report shows that federal government involvement in UAP research goes back to the early 1950s with short-lived efforts like “Project Magnet” from Transport Canada and “Project Second Storey” from the Department of National Defence.

Project Magnet was quickly shut down after garnering unwelcome attention. Project Second Story recommended ending all military UAP investigations.

In 1967, responsibility was shifted to the National Research Council of Canada, which collected UAP reports until 1995.

A trove of files were eventually transferred to Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa, where an estimated 15,000 pages of documents can be perused in-person.

Only about 9,500 pages have been digitized and made available online.

The report also mentions the work of Winnipeg-based writer and researcher Chris Rutkowski, who has documented tens of thousands of Canadian UAP cases over the past three decades – and who even once received reports directly from military and transportation officials.

“UAP reports are deserving of scientific study in that they represent a real phenomenon that has been witnessed by reliable and responsible observers, and are thus a part of the human experience,” Rutkowski told CTVNews.ca.

“While there have been offices dedicated to the UFO phenomenon in Canada in previous years, there currently does not appear to be any government agency, institution, or office where UAP reports are received and analysed for research.”

Other governments are investigating UAPs

If Canada adopts the Sky Canada Project’s recommendations, it will be following in the footsteps of countries like the U.S., France, Chile and China, which have all created official bodies dedicated to collecting and analyzing UAP reports.

In the U.S., the Pentagon’s current UAP research effort is known as the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), which has been releasing annual UAP reports in coordination with the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

In its 2024 report, AARO stated that 21 out of 757 cases received that year merited further analysis. The UAP topic has also been subject to a NASA investigation and U.S. congressional hearings.

Known by the French acronym GEIPAN, France’s Unidentified Aerospace Phenomenon Research and Information Group has been investigating UAP cases since 1977.

Operating under the umbrella of France’s space agency, GEIPAN has examined more than 3,200 cases to date, including 102 that remained unidentified after investigation.

Other official UAP research efforts include the Chilean Air Force’s Section for the Study of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena and a Chinese military task force.

No evidence of aliens, but…

The Sky Canada Project makes it clear that its mission was to focus on Canadian UAP reporting mechanisms and not sightings themselves.

“The project was not meant to prove or disprove the existence of extraterrestrial life or extraterrestrial visitors,” the report stated.

“The collection or analysis of first-hand data such as photos, videos or individual UAP sighting reports was not part of the project.”

Sky Canada Project’s ‘Management of Public Reporting of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena in Canada

From drones to balloons, satellites, meteors, flares, paper lanterns, planets, atmospheric phenomena, experimental technology and more, many UFO sightings could have ordinary or earthly explanations.

But unless there is an obvious safety or security concern, there tends to be little sign of official investigation or follow-up from Canadian authorities, leaving most cases officially unexplained.

“UFOs are by their very definition unidentified but this does not imply that they are of extraterrestrial origin, that they defy natural or scientific explanation, or that they would not be identifiable with access to additional or better data and tools,” the report said.

“Nonetheless, some UAP sightings—for which data exist—remain unexplained even after investigation.”

Paul Delaney is an emeritus professor of physics and astronomy at York University in Toronto.

While Delaney doubts that UAP represent extraterrestrial technology, he acknowledges that a small percentage of cases remain unexplained and are thus worthy of further investigation.

“Determining once and for all that UAP sightings are of an extraterrestrial origin or not is of deep interest to people everywhere,” Delaney, who was not involved in the report, told CTVNews.ca.

“While the overwhelming results of UAP reports turn out to have terrestrial explanations some one to two per cent remain truly unidentified and that remaining per cent needs clarity not speculation or disinformation.”

CTVNews.ca has reached out to several federal departments and agencies for comment, including the Canadian Space Agency, Transport Canada and the Department of National Defence. (This article will be updated with their responses.)

The Sky Canada Project report concluded that while most UAP cases can be explained by an investigation, “some remain unsolved, suggesting the need for further analysis using advanced analytical tools.”

As for next steps, Nemer told CTVNews.ca that her office is focused on other priorities to support the new Carney government.

“But we’ll be ready to help if the government request further advice on the implementation of some of our recommendations,” she said.

“I hope our report will be perceived as a positive contribution and will generate some improvements to the management of UAP sightings in Canada.”

‘Dark spot with white dots’ investigated using new UFO research methods

Updated: Jul 14, 2025 / 08:07 PM CDT

The existence of UFOs, aka unidentified aerial phenomena or UAPs, is one of the biggest mysteries of the universe.

The stigma surrounding UFOs has discouraged generations of researchers from taking a closer look, but now, scientists with real academic credentials are investigating UFOs head-on.

Matthew Szydagis, a physics professor at the University of Albany, is one of those scientists and told “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” on Monday that most UFOs his research team caught on camera were something made by humans, such as a drone or helicopter.

“We had the focus of having an instrumented field study for UAPs,” said Szydagis.

“It’s not the first, but what we’ve done is publish our work in the highest impact-factor journal to ever carry a paper on this topic.”

Szydagis acknowledged the research led to many objects being found and identified while also discovering one “unidentified object” in July 2021.

“So we found one dark spot with white dots in it in one of our camera systems,” he said. “Now, by itself, that could be anything.

It could be a camera artifact or a glitch, but it seemed to have some sort of correspondence, at least to a small degree of statistical significance, with an ionizing radiation event and with Doppler weather radar data hits.”

The object didn’t provide any conclusive data statistically that there was something physical in the sky, according to Syzdagis.

Syzdagis, back then, was part of the group UAPx, which was taking part in a documentary “A Tear in the Sky.”

NewsNation has covered the conversation around UFOs since the start, and in that time, there have been a series of congressional hearings about UAPs.

The Department of Defense has also established a UFO reporting bureau, the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office.

Federal UFO Investigation Targets Trillion-Dollar Criminal Enterprise - Says Investigator

July 11, 2025

Dr. Steven Greer, founder of the Disclosure Project, has made extraordinary allegations claiming UFO secrecy programs constitute a transnational criminal organization subject to federal R.I.C.O. prosecution.

In his latest interview, Greer alleges that operations dealing with UAP and extraterrestrial reverse engineering for the past 70–80 years have been conducted illegally outside government oversight.

According to Greer, both congressional members and federal law enforcement have concluded these programs represent a racketeering influenced corrupt organization under federal criminal law.

The alleged crimes include murder, targeted killings, kidnapping, abductions, blackmail, bribery, and embezzlement of public funds in the billions or trillions of dollars. R.I.C.O. charges carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison per count, requiring prosecutors to prove at least two acts of racketeering activity within 10 years connected to an ongoing criminal enterprise

Greer claims he has become the target of a deliberate disinformation campaign designed to sabotage congressional investigations.

He alleges that individuals within UFO circles have told congressional members and Pentagon officials that he is a Russian espionage agent and Mossad agent.

These allegations, which Greer says have been confirmed directly by members of Congress within the past few weeks, create an effect that blocks legitimate witnesses from reaching investigators.

He maintains these constitute federal crimes because they obstruct congressional investigations.

The timing of these allegations coincides with increased congressional attention to UAP phenomena.

Recent UFO hearings featured whistleblower David Grusch's claims about crash retrieval programs and non-human biologics, but Greer contends these barely scratch the surface of what he describes as a much larger criminal conspiracy.

Greer warns of an urgent timeline, stating his intelligence sources indicate "we'll be lucky if we get past 2027 with the status quo."

He specifically calls for immediately stopping criminal activities involving targeting and destroying extraterrestrial vehicles and assets.

These covert programs allegedly use quantum potential weapons that exceed the speed of light, which Greer warns could provoke retaliation.

The recent New Jersey drone incidents represent what Greer calls a false flag operation designed to divert attention from planned disclosure that was derailed.

He claims some UAP sightings are actually man-made craft designed to test military responses, with technologies so advanced they're nearly indistinguishable from extraterrestrial vehicles.

This creates the dangerous possibility that mainstream military personnel could mistake man-made false flags for alien attacks.

>>23330667

Greer makes specific claims about the famous Tic Tac encounter, stating he previously spoke with F-18 pilot David Fravor, who initially insisted the craft couldn't be human-made.

However, Greer argues that even high-ranking officials including presidents and CIA directors weren't briefed on black project capabilities.

He claims the Tic Tac was actually a Lockheed object operating in restricted military areas to test defense systems, representing deliberate testing by what he calls a "cabal of criminal operators."

Congressional reactions to classified briefings have allegedly been significant. Greer describes providing information to congressional investigators that received "10 out of 10" credibility ratings.

This information reportedly includes details about crash sites, recovered craft, bodies, and locations of ongoing operations.

Law enforcement personnel were present during these briefings, and Greer claims congressional members emerged saying the evidence was "dispositive."

Despite alleged interference, congressional momentum continues.

Anna Paulina Luna has announced upcoming hearings with government appointees and military personnel, noting that someone wants to come forward about crash retrieval programs.

Eric Burlison described these efforts as representing "systematic change to the process in the way we are transparent with the American people."

Greer emphasizes that federal law enforcement is extending immunity, protection, and monitoring for people willing to come forward.

He urges potential whistleblowers not to delay, stating it's better to come forward voluntarily than to eventually be "rounded up and interrogated."

He mentions having contacts with "white hats" in law enforcement who want to see these issues resolved.

The broader implications of Greer's allegations extend beyond UFO secrecy to suppressed energy technologies that could eliminate poverty and environmental destruction.

He claims these technologies are being withheld to protect existing power structures in oil and gas industries.

Greer alleges this criminal organization has targeted civilian aircraft that accidentally interfere with covert operations, killing passengers and covering up crashes.

Greer advocates for "asymmetric disclosure" - evidence released through whistleblowers rather than official government channels.

He promises that any evidence provided to him will be placed on blockchain systems for worldwide access, emphasizing that whistleblowers can remain anonymous while their evidence speaks for itself.

Whether these extraordinary allegations represent the most significant criminal conspiracy in modern history or elaborate claims without foundation remains to be determined.

The timeline Greer warns about suggests these questions may be resolved sooner rather than later, with congressional hearings continuing to intensify and more whistleblowers reportedly preparing to come forward.
