Gothic Fire in Nevada grows past 36K acres with no containment
The wildfire burning in the Nevada Test and Training Range continues to grow with no containment yet.
The Bureau of Land Management said Monday that the Gothic Fire had reached 36,500 acres in size.
Firefighting efforts are still using a "confine and contain strategy," according to the BLM, rather than full suppression.
Crews on Monday were expected to continue point protection strategies and protect any valuables at risk. Officials said there was potential for growth because of high temperatures and low relative humidity, and forecasted winds could push the fire north or northeast.
First reported on July 4, the Gothic Fire is burning in restricted military airspace. That means the U.S. Air Force is managing the fire, in coordination with the Bureau of Land Management.
The Nevada Test and Training Range covers about 2.9 million acres across the state, and the fire is not threatening any structures or homes.
