A rumor that circulated online in July 2025 claimed Donald Trump Jr., the U.S. president's eldest son, once tweeted a message supporting the release of a "client list" associated with the illicit activities of deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The tweet, dated in an alleged image screenshot as July 8, 2023, read, "Show us all the Epstein client list now!!! Why would anyone protect those scum bags? Ask yourselves this question daily and the answer becomes very apparent!!" (At the time, U.S. President Joe Biden was in the White House.)
On social media, a Reddit user sharing (archived) the purportedly genuine screenshot on r/agedlikemilk — a subreddit for content that aged poorly — captioned the tweet as, "Don Jr. with one for the history books from July '23." Usersalso shared the alleged tweet image on 9GAG(archived), Bluesky (archived), Facebook(archived), Instagram (archived), Reddit(archived), Threads (archived), X (archived) and YouTube (archived). Snopes received searches and reader email asking about this matter, as well.

Trump truly did post this tweet on Twitter, shortly before the platform's name changed to X, in July 2023, including demanding the U.S. government reveal an undisclosed "Epstein client list," and requesting users ask daily why someone would protect those associated with Epstein's alleged crimes. The post (archived), remarking about a video mentioning the sentencing of Epstein associate and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, still appeared on his X account in July 2025.
Snopes contacted Trump by email via the Trump Organization to ask if he wished to comment about the resurfacing of his post, and whether he still shares the same views now that he held in 2023 about demanding the release of undisclosed Epstein-related files. We will update this story if we receive more information.
Past remarks about Epstein from Trump
Trump previously posted numerous times about Epstein on his X account. For example, on June 15, 2024, he shared (archived), "You know who's not on the Epstein list? My father… because if he was, it would have leaked in about half a second!!!! That's a fact!"
Also in 2024, during a speaking engagement for the conservative Turning Point Action organization, Trump claimed (archived) to the gathered crowd of the federal government not releasing the "Epstein list" that, "It's almost like they're trying to protect those pedphles for some reason. I can't imagine why."
Epstein in the news
The July 2023 post from Trump demanding the release of the "Epstein client list" circulated at a time of high tensions in summer 2025 involving Epstein's past, in the weeks after tech billionaire Elon Musk, former adviser to President Donald Trump, alleged, without providing evidence, that the president appears in damning, undisclosed files associated with Epstein's acts. "That is the real reason why they have not been made public," he added, before deleting the post.
Then, in early July 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice and FBI announced in a memorandumthat no Epstein "client list" existed, despite Attorney General Pam Bondi answering a question about the supposed list on Fox News in February 2025, saying it was on her desk for review. After the memo's release, Bondi sought to clarify her remarks from months earlier, claiming her "on my desk" comment simply referenced a general file related to Epstein, and not a "client list."
