Kecksburg UFO festival combines history, fun

Whether you are an alien enthusiast, a fan of local community festivals, or just in search of some out of this world fun, Kecksburg’s UFO Festival will deliver.
On Dec. 9, 1965, it was reported an object was spotted flying over five states and Canada and landed in a wooded area of Kecksburg, a Westmoreland County village.
Celebrating the 60-year anniversary of the famous acorn shaped UFO sighting, the village of Kecksburg will once again transform into a hub of otherworldly intrigue.
Starting July 18 through July 20, visitors can be part of the family-friendly festivities that include psychic readings, witness stories, live music, and over 90 cosmic vendors and crafters.
“This is a special year; we will have an update on what happened here in Kecksburg, during our UFO Conference,” said Ron Struble, who has headed the festival committee for the last 20 years.
“We are expecting a really big turnout. Every year we seem to get bigger, and this year, we are really excited about our cornhole tournament, hot dog eating contest and parade,” Struble said.
This is a free event that has onsite parking and will be fun for all ages. All proceeds go to the Kecksburg Volunteer Fire Department.
The annual parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. July 19, followed by fireworks at 10 p.m. The UFO Conference will be held 1 p.m. July 20.
The event is being held at the Kecksburg Fire Department, 5128 Water St., Mt. Pleasant.
The grounds open July 18 at 6 p.m. There will be music by the Corn Liquor Saints and food, craft and informational vendors set up. The cornhole tournament is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Grounds open at noon on July 19, with the parade at 2 p.m. and the popular bed race at 4 p.m. Music by Perfect Pandemonium will start at 7 p.m., with fireworks at 10 p.m. ending the day.
Grounds open at noon July 20, followed at 12:30 p.m. by the hot dog eating contest. From 1 to 4 p.m., Dark Harvest will provide music. The hay bale toss is set for 2 p.m. The festival ends at 4 p.m.

Kiev setting stage for chemical disaster – Moscow

The Ukrainian military is trying to provoke a major ecological disaster close to the front line and blame it on Russia, the Defense Ministry in Moscow warned on Thursday.
The accusation came from Maj. Gen. Aleksey Rtishchev, the commander of Russia's Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops, who briefed the public about alleged Ukrainian violations of an international treaty prohibiting the use of chemical weapons.
Rtishchev disclosed a document obtained by the Russian military, in which the deputy director of Ukrainian state-owned company Ukrkhimtransammiak informed a regional official appointed by Kiev that in late June Ukrainian troops had illegally accessed a site operated by the firm.
The Ukrkhimtransammiak executive stressed his concern that the location could be damaged due to the military’s involvement, potentially causing the release of up to 566 tons of highly toxic liquified ammonia.
The site, an above-ground element of a Soviet-built underground ammonia pipeline operated by Ukrkhimtransammiak, is located roughly 2.5 km north of the village of Novotroitskoye, in the Kiev-controlled portion of Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic.
Rtishchev claimed the Ukrainian military had placed communication equipment at the location as part of “barbaric tactics used by the Kiev regime” which involves “placing toxic chemicals in the areas where Russian troops operate and their subsequent detonation.”
“The intention is to accuse our nation of intentionally causing a technological disaster and damage its reputation,” the general stated. “The use of hazardous objects for military purposes violates the international humanitarian law.”
Rtishchev also reiterated Russian accusations against the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Moscow says the international watchdog ignores Russian reports about Ukrainian violations of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) while taking Kiev’s allegations against Russia at face value.

Children injured in Ukrainian drone strike in southern Russia (PHOTOS)

At least three children have been injured after a Ukrainian drone crashed into a residential building in the southern Russian city of Voronezh early on Thursday morning, according to local authorities.
Voronezh Region Governor Aleksandr Gusev said Russian air defenses detected and destroyed at least five drones over the city and its suburbs overnight, but that one of the UAVs struck the upper floors of a high-rise apartment block on Aivazovsky Street.
“Two boys born in 2009 and 2013 were hospitalized with head injuries and abrasions,” Gusev reported. “A girl born in 2009 sustained cuts to her arms and legs and was treated at the scene.”
Residents reported hearing a loud buzz followed by an explosion at around 3am local time. Eyewitnesses described the drone flying low over rooftops before crashing into the building, causing smoke and dust to pour from the upper floors.
Emergency response crews were dispatched immediately, and authorities have begun arranging temporary shelter for displaced residents of at least four apartments damaged in the incident.
A large impact hole was visible on the 16th floor of the building, and several parked vehicles were damaged by falling debris, according to photos shared on social media.
The strike marks the second drone attack on Voronezh in less than three days. On Tuesday, a larger wave of UAVs injured 24 civilians – including four children – and caused extensive damage to residential and commercial buildings.
Ukraine has been conducting UAV raids deep into Russia for months, often hitting residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure. The Russian government labels Ukraine’s strikes as “terrorist attacks” intentionally targeting civilians.

Russian drone strike destroys entire property of Kharkiv's Arabesky Theater

Russian forces used Shahed kamikaze drones to destroy the property of Arabesky Theater in Kharkiv, a city in northeastern Ukraine, the theater reports. The losses include unique stage decorations.
According to the theater, they had planned to create an exhibition and donate the costumes to a museum, but those plans were disrupted by the Russian attack.
"Yesterday, as a result of multiple Shahed drones hitting the building, all of Arabesky Theater's property was destroyed: stage sets, props, costumes, equipment, backstage clothing — everything," representatives of the theater stated.
They added that the theater's property, accumulated over 30 years, has now "become history and memories."

Arabesky Theater in Kharkiv has existed since the early 1990s and is known as an independent creative platform.
The theater's team works with various forms of contemporary art, including dramaturgy, performance, and documentary theater. Its repertoire includes both classic works and productions based on current social issues.
Arabesky has participated in numerous theater festivals in Ukraine and abroad.
Incidentally, on the night of July 16, Russian forces also struck the factory of the Polish company Barlinek, located in the city of Vinnytsia.

Ukraine defies Trump's orders with targeted drone attack on Moscow

Officials within the Ukrainian Government have reportedly defied President Donald Trump and attacked several targets close to the Russian capital of Moscow and St. Petersburg.
It was announced Thursday by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin that Russian air defenses had shot down three drones approaching the capital between 2-3 a.m. local time.
According to Sobyanin, emergency workers were on scene, making no mention of any casualties or damage caused. In St. Petersburg, the Pulkovo Airport temporarily suspended operations at 5 a.m. local time
The airport has suffered several delays in the past due to previous drone strikes. The halt reportedly delayed the departure of at least 10 flights.
According to the Russian media outlet TASS, it was reported that drones were downed with electronic warfare systems east of St. Petersburg.
In Smolensk Oblast, located south of St. Petersburg, one person was injured by 14 drones, as reported by Governor Vasily Anokhin.
Belgorod Oblast Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov claimed that a Ukrainian drone attack allegedly killed one person and injured six in the city.
Russian Telegram media channels were reportedly flooded with comments that a drone had struck a residential building, injuring three children.
Regional Governor Alexander Gusev claimed that at least five drones had been downed over the region.
Reports also indicated that a 14-year-old girl was injured as three drones were allegedly downed over the region, according to Governor Vladislav Shapsha.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that 122 drones were downed in the attack, though the Kyiv Independent was unable to verify if it was true.
This attack comes on the heels of Russia attacking Ukrainian forces in various parts of the country.
TRUMP'S WORD OF WARNING:
The attack on several Russian regions comes as Trump asked Zelensky and Ukrainian officials not to attack the Russian capital.
Speaking with members of the White House press pool on Monday, Trump said, “[Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky] shouldn’t target Moscow."
Trump's remarks follow his announcement about an arms deal with NATO to supply Kyiv with an offensive weapons system as it enters its third year.
During the Monday announcement alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the U.S. president also threatened to impose "secondary" tariffs on those who purchase oil from Russia within 50 days if the Kremlin fails to reach an agreement with Kyiv.
The arms deal will provide Kyiv with a weapons system that can strike deep into Russia and comes after the president faced criticism following Washington's halting of a weapons shipment to Kyiv, forcing Ukrainian officials to find a roundabout agreement with European allies.

Dramatic Drone Footage Of Iceland's Latest Volcanic Eruption Shows An Epic Scene From Hell

Iceland has experienced the latest volcanic eruption in a string of similar events that started in 2021. The volcano is spewing streams of molten lava that are accumulating east of the new and extensive fissure.
The eruption took place on the Sundhnúksgígaröð crater, located in the eastern extreme of Iceland on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO), it started just before 4 am local time on July 16, 2025, and created an eruptive fissure that is now extended further north than any of the previous fissures that have appeared since December 2023.
Drone footage shows the fissure extending across the crater in a line of bubbling, spewing lava. It’s an epic sight as a blanket of gas is sent into the sky.
Latest estimates put the fissure at around 2.4 kilometers (1.5 miles) long. In addition, a smaller fissure has opened west of Fagradalsfjall, another volcano that started to erupt in March 2021.
This fissure has been estimated to be around 500 meters (1,640 feet) in length.
Despite this, the current data indicates that the seismic activity at the site is already starting to decrease, with only a few small earthquakes occurring per hour.
However, lava flow has continued through the night and is moving both east and west.
Some people have reported seeing so-called “witch’s hair” drifting in the air. These are fine, sharp, glassy needles that are formed in volcanic eruptions when lava droplets rapidly cool and stretch.
Because they are light, these glassy fibers can travel long distances and can cause skin and eye irritations.
At present, wildfires are thought to be the largest threat to local communities, but residents have been advised to stay indoors due to high levels of toxic gas being released by the eruption.
This is the twelfth eruption to occur since seismic activity resumed in 2021. Prior to this, the Fagradalsfjall volcano area had been dormant for around 815 years.
The new activity marks the start of a new decades-long volcanic era for the region, which was practically made by volcanoes; Iceland is positioned on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in the North Atlantic Ocean, which is a fault line in the ocean floor extending between the Eurasian and the North American tectonic plates.

Zelensky, Trump discuss 'win-win' drones-for-weapons 'mega deal'

President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump are exploring a potential agreement involving the purchase of American weapons in exchange for the sale of Ukrainian drones, Zelensky told the New York Post in an interview published on July 17.
"The people of America need this technology, and you need to have it in your arsenal," Zelensky said of Ukraine's drones, which have managed to destroy heavy Russian bombers.
"I think this is really a mega deal, a win-win, as they say."
The arrangement would see the U.S. and Ukraine back each other in aviation and unmanned systems development, Zelensky said.
While specific details remain unclear, Kyiv would gain access to a swath of weapons from the U.S. in return for providing combat-tested drone technologies to Washington.
Zelensky said Ukraine is prepared to share its drone expertise with the U.S., as well as European countries such as Denmark, Norway, and Germany.
The proposal aligns with Trump's evolving military strategy. According to Reuters, his draft defense budget for fiscal year 2026 prioritizes drones and long-range missiles over conventional naval and aerial assets.
Since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, Kyiv has expanded drone production across all domains — air, land, and sea — with plans to manufacture 30,000 long-range drones in 2025.
Kyiv's hybrid strike platforms — including the Palianytsia and Peklo missile-drones — have attracted global interest for their ability to deliver precision strikes over extended ranges.

Russians strike ambulance in Kherson region with drone, injure medics

Russian military attacked another ambulance in the Kherson region with a drone, injuring two medical workers.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported on Facebook by the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Alexander Prokudin.
“Russian military attacked another ambulance in Kherson region with a drone,” the post said.
As noted, at around 1:50 p.m., a brigade heading to a call in Zymivnyk came under enemy fire. The vehicle was damaged in the attack.
Two medics were injured—a 49-year-old paramedic and a 65-year-old paramedic. They suffered concussions, blast injuries, and closed head injuries.
The CMA reported that in the village of Zymivnyk, Russian terrorists used a drone to strike an emergency response team that had responded to a call about a child with poisoning.
The Regional Military Administration also reported that a man who had been injured the day before in a Russian drone attack in Kherson was admitted to the hospital.
The 24-year-old Kherson resident was diagnosed with blast trauma and concussion. The victim will be treated on an outpatient basis.
As reported by Ukrinform, in the de-occupied Kherson region, emergency medical crews make about 200 calls a day, most of which take place under enemy fire and UAV attacks.
The region is in dire need of armored transport for emergency services.

Massive drone strike hits Shostka district in Sumy region

On Thursday morning, July 17, Russian troops launched a massive drone strike on the Shostka district of Sumy region.
This was reported by the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorov, on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
“After 7:00 a.m., the enemy launched a massive strike on the Shostka district. Enemy UAVs hit the territories of several communities,” Hryhorov wrote.
He noted that, according to preliminary data, there were no casualties.
The attacks damaged residential buildings and caused fires. Rescuers have already begun to eliminate the consequences of the attack.
The extent of the damage is being clarified, the head of the Regional Military Administration added.
As reported, Russian troops carried out nearly 100 strikes on 41 settlements in the Sumy region between the morning of July 16 and the morning of July 17.

A lightning-sparked wildfire burning near the highly classified Area 51 military base in Nevada has reignited public speculation and conspiracy theories online.
The blaze has been confirmed as part of the Gothic Fire, which has been raging across northern Nevada since July 4.
According to officials, the fire was caused by lightning, and is one of many currently burning in the state.
Despite official explanations, conspiracy theories continue to float. Users on social media have speculated that the fire may be hiding “a crashed experimental aircraft” or that it’s “evidence being destroyed.”
One user referenced the viral 2019 trend to “storm Area 51,” suggesting, “maybe someone finally did it.”
The fire is burning about 15 miles from Area 51, near the Nevada Test Site, where the US once conducted above-ground nuclear tests. The region is roughly 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
Since the US Department of Defense owns the land where Area 51 and the surrounding areas lie, the fire response is under their jurisdiction. The Gothic Fire has now spread over 366,000 acres.
It is currently 0% contained, with no timeline yet for full containment. High temperatures, low humidity, and an abundance of dry timber and grass are feeding the fire.
However, no evacuations have been ordered and no structures are under immediate threat, officials confirmed.
What is Area 51?
Area 51 is a remote US Air Force facility located within the Nevada Test and Training Range.
Officially acknowledged by the US government only in 2013, the site has been at the center of decades-long speculation due to the highly classified nature of its operations.
Originally developed during the Cold War, Area 51 was used for testing cutting-edge military aircraft, including the U-2 spy plane, the SR-71 Blackbird, and the F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter.
These aircraft often flew at altitudes and speeds far beyond what was publicly known at the time, leading civilians to report unidentified flying objects (UFOs) in the skies.
Its secrecy, restricted airspace, and lack of public access have fueled countless theories suggesting the base houses captured alien spacecraft, extraterrestrial life, or advanced technology reverse-engineered from alien sources.
In 2019, the base drew viral attention when over 500,000 people RSVP’d to a Facebook event called “Storm Area 51: They Can't Stop All of Us.”
While meant as a joke, it drew thousands of curious onlookers to nearby towns, forcing authorities to bolster security around the base.

The long-awaited transparency promised by both US Congressional UAP hearings and Canada’s comprehensive Sky Canada Project has delivered underwhelming results, revealing more about government resistance to disclosure than actual UAP phenomena. While both countries promised groundbreaking investigations, the reality shows a coordinated effort to manage information flow while maintaining institutional control over potentially explosive revelations.
Congressman Eric Burlison’s investigation into UAP phenomena has uncovered a disturbing pattern of witness intimidation that explains why meaningful disclosure remains elusive.
Not only that, but he mentioned that the next UFO hearing will not be happening till September. The case of David Grusch, who provided bombshell testimony about crash retrieval programs, illustrates the personal cost of coming forward.
He stated to reporter Joe Khalil “He lost all of his benefits, all of it, like his pension, his medical benefits,” Burlison revealed, explaining why potential witnesses remain reluctant to testify.
The systematic destruction of whistleblowers’ careers serves as a powerful deterrent, ensuring that “there’s a huge sacrifice that these people have to make before they come forward.”
Perhaps more disturbing is Burlison’s investigation into whether the military is conducting psychological operations on its own personnel, essentially creating fake UAP incidents to deceive troops.
When confronted with suggestions that some UAP encounters might be elaborate military pranks/hoaxes, Burlison pushed back, stating with Mat Laslo on Ask a Pol “you can’t tell me that there’s a widespread hazing activity within the Air Force that it’s like pervasive.” The implications are staggering — either UAP encounters represent genuine phenomena, or the military is systematically deceiving its own people.
As Burlison concluded, “what they just admitted is that the federal government is absolutely lying and deceiving the American people.”
Canada Sky Project UFO Report
Canada’s approach appeared more promising initially, but the July release of their Sky Canada Project report proves equally disappointing.
After two and a half years of investigation, gathering information from federal departments, international partners including AARO, France, and Chile, the public received essentially “a bureaucratic manual on how Canada might investigate UAPs in the future.”
The report explicitly states its goal is neither to collect evidence nor prove or disprove extraterrestrial life, instead focusing on procedural recommendations for creating reporting systems and reducing stigma.

The disconnect between Canada’s extensive research and limited public disclosure raises obvious questions.
With 27% of Canadians having witnessed UAPs, only 10% reporting their sightings, and 40% not knowing who to contact, the infrastructure problem is clear.
Yet after years of investigation into historical cases and international consultations, the public received only recommendations for future action rather than findings from completed research.
Canadian science expert Dan Riskin identified the core issue: “every time there’s secrecy or any kind of friction in relaying what you see and telling the government about it, and then the government being transparent about what they’ve been told, it just feels like a cover-up.”
The most explosive revelations come from Burlison’s private conversations with Eric Davis, a longtime intelligence community researcher who worked for the Pentagon and CIA investigating crashed material.

This revelation helps explain the institutional resistance both countries face.
As Tim Pool philosophically noted, “how would you feel if you woke up and realized you were in a rat cage your whole life and everything you knew was just some stupid rat experiment?”
The implications of confirming multiple alien species would undermine fundamental assumptions about religion, science, and human significance, potentially explaining why both governments prefer procedural discussions over substantive disclosure.
Burlison is now investigating whether federal laws were violated in government deception campaigns, specifically referencing incidents where military personnel allegedly planted fake UAP evidence.
“The story of the individual who went to a bar and handed photos or whatever it was, how is that not illegal?” he asked, suggesting coordinated efforts to deceive both military personnel and the public.
If confirmed, such psychological operations would represent systematic abuse of power, while if denied, they raise questions about why sophisticated disinformation campaigns are necessary.
The disclosure environment has fundamentally changed since whistleblowers like David Grusch forced conversations into the public arena, but this new transparency comes with significant costs.
Witnesses face career destruction, researchers operate under classification restrictions, and governments release sanitized reports that raise more questions than they answer.
Even with David Grusch now working as Burlison’s advisor, the most sensitive discussions remain in classified settings, with plans to move key testimonies into SCIFs away from public scrutiny.
Both the US and Canadian approaches reveal a coordinated strategy: acknowledge the phenomenon, promise transparency, but control the narrative through limited releases and procedural delays.

Are Alien MedBeds the Golden Cure to Disease & Aging?

In 1993, Jelaila Starr began communicating with extraterrestrials that were part of an alleged Nibiruan Council, and claims that they gave her a vision of a contrived first contact event where angelic human-looking aliens would emerge from mass landings and offer exotic healing technologies to a sick humanity.
Starr says that the medbeds that would be made available contained nanotechnology, which compromised all who entered them with an Artificial Intelligence signal that was in fact in control of the visitors.
Starr claims that recent news relayed by Dr. Andrea Martin concerning the delay of an official extraterrestrial disclosure announcement and the subsequent release of reverse engineered alien technologies such as medbeds, is actually a positive development.
The delay gives humanity more time to develop self-healing abilities so they are not tempted to use and become dependent on medbeds.
According to Starr, medbeds use nano-technology and anyone subjecting themselves to such healing technologies would be changed in a way that makes them more receptive to and even controlled by AI.
Most importantly, Starr points out that the use of such healing technologies would not resolve the underlying emotional trauma that caused the illness in the first place.
Consequently, Starr discusses the benefits of self-healing and how this can be done by connecting with one’s Higher Self, Soul, or Source Energy, and unleashing inherent healing abilities.

Giants, Medbeds, AI & Ancient Nuclear Wars

Giants in stasis chambers continue to be found around the world according to veteran remote viewer John Vivanco.
His remote viewing sessions have also revealed the existence of different types of medbeds that have been secretly developed, but are yet to be publicly released.
In addition, Vivanco has learned about ancient nuclear wars, how these relate to Deep State efforts to manufacture a Gog and Magog End Times war, and the dangers of Artificial Intelligence.
Vivanco has been a professional remote viewer for over 25 years and has gained highly accurate results that have both pleased corporate/government clients but also antagonized government agencies that did not wish a successful civilian remote viewing organization to be created.

Is the Interstellar Object 3I/ATLAS Alien Technology?

Today I co-authored an intriguing new paper with the brilliant collaborators Adam Hibberd and Adam Crowl from the Initiative for Interstellar Studies in London, UK. The paper is accessible here.
One of the solutions to Enrico Fermi’s question about extraterrestrials: “where is everybody?” is offered by the dark forest hypothesis, popularized by Cixin Liu’s science fiction novel “The Dark Forest.”
This hypothesis proposes that our cosmic neighborhood is dangerous, filled with intelligent civilizations that are hostile and silent to avoid detection by potential predators.
In this context, the silence in searches for radio signals by the SETI community is not caused by the lack of extraterrestrial intelligent civilizations, but is instead a consequence of them fearing mutual destruction.
Our paper explores the possibility that the recently discovered interstellar object, 3I/ATLAS, may provide evidence in support of the dark forest hypothesis.
This new interstellar interloper has displayed a number of anomalous characteristics, some of which were summarized in an essay that I wrote shortly after its discovery. In particular:

The retrograde orbital plane (defined by the orbital angular momentum vector) of 3I/ATLAS around the Sun lies within 5 degrees of that of Earth — the so-called ecliptic plane.
The likelihood for that coincidence out of all random orientations is 0.2%.

As I showed in a recent paper, the brightness of 3I/ATLAS implies an object that is ~20 kilometers in diameter (for a typical albedo of ~5%), too large for an interstellar asteroid.
We should have detected a million objects below the ~100-meters scale of the first reported interstellar object 1I/`Oumuamua for each ~20-kilometer object.

No spectral features of cometary gas are found in spectroscopic observations of 3I/ATLAS. The detected reddening of reflected sunlight could originate from the surface of the object.
Related data can be found here and here. The fuzz observed around 3I/ATLAS (see images here, here and here) is inconclusive given the motion of the object and the inevitable smearing of its image over the exposure time.

For its orbital parameters, 3I/ATLAS is synchronized to approach unusually close to Venus (0.65au where 1au is the Earth-Sun separation), Mars (0.19au) and Jupiter (0.36au), with a cumulative probability of 0.005% relative to orbits with the same orbital parameters but a random arrival time.

3I/ATLAS achieves perihelion on the opposite side of the Sun relative to Earth.
This could be intentional to avoid detailed observations from Earth-based telescopes when the object is brightest or when gadgets are sent to Earth from that hidden vantage point.
The retrograde trajectory at a perihelion speed of 68 kilometers per second, opposite to the direction of motion of the Earth around the Sun at 30 kilometers per second, makes the velocity difference between Earth and 3I/ATLAS 98 kilometers per second.
It is therefore impractical for earthlings to land on 3I/ATLAS at closest approach by boarding chemical rockets, since our best rockets reach at most a third of that speed.

The optimal point for a reverse Solar Oberth maneuver to become bound to the Sun is at perihelion.
In an Oberth maneuver, the thrust of a spacecraft is applied at its maximum orbital speed, namely at periapsis, so as to maximize the resulting change in kinetic energy.
This applies both to accelerating to achieve Solar System escape, or alternatively to slow down from a high speed (a `reverse Oberth maneuver’) in order to break, stay bound to the Sun and potentially visit a planet like Earth.
It is this optimal breaking point for 3I/ATLAS that is obscured from our view by the Sun.

The direction from where 3I/ATLAS is coming is oriented towards the bright Milky-Way center, where crowding by background stars made its detection difficult prior to July 2025.
Figures 1 and 2 in our paper show that if astronomers were to detect 3I/ATLAS more than a year earlier, then we would have had an opportunity to launch a spacecraft that could have intercepted 3I/ATLAS along its path.
By now, such an interception is not feasible with chemical rockets.

The velocity thrusts needed for launches of gadgets out of 3I/ATLAS to intercept Venus, Mars, or Jupiter are smaller than 5 kilometers per second, achievable by intercontinental ballistic missiles.
The near alignment of the retrograde trajectory of 3I/ATLAS with the ecliptic plane offers various benefits to an extraterrestrial intelligence, since it allows a spacecraft to access Earth with relative impunity.
The eclipse of 3I/ATLAS by the Sun at perihelion for observers at Earth, would allow a spacecraft to conduct a clandestine reverse Solar Oberth maneuver, an optimal high-thrust strategy for interstellar spacecraft to brake and stay bound to the Sun.
An optimal intercept of Earth would entail an arrival in late November or early December of 2025.
Detection of a non-gravitational acceleration could also indicate an intent to intercept Jupiter, not far off the path of 3I/ATLAS, and a strategy to rendezvous with it after perihelion.
Our paper is contingent on a remarkable but testable hypothesis that 3I/ATLAS is a functioning technological artifact, to which I and my two co-authors do not necessarily ascribe. Yet, this hypothesis is worthy of a scientific analysis for two reasons:

The consequences, should the hypothesis turn out to be correct, could potentially be dire for humanity, and would possibly require defensive measures to be undertaken (though these might prove futile).

The hypothesis is an interesting exercise in its own right, and is fun to explore, irrespective of its likely validity.
Given its interstellar speed of 60 kilometers per second, 3I/ATLAS entered the outer boundary of the Solar System (at 100,000 times the Earth-Sun separation) about 8,000 years ago.
This was roughly when human-made technologies became advanced enough to start documenting history on Earth.
If the hypothesis about a technological artifact ends up being correct, then there are two possible implications: first that the intentions of 3I/ATLAS are entirely benign, and second that they are malign.
In the first case, humanity need not do anything but await the arrival of this interstellar messenger with open arms. It is the second option which is of great concern.
Given the dramatic implications of the second possibility, we can apply the logic of Pascal’s wager that suggested it is more rational to believe in God’s existence than not.
The insight offered by the mathematician Blaise Pascal was that the potential benefits of believing (in our case — alerting humanity to the existential risk from 3I/ATLAS) far outweigh the potential losses (in our case — a theoretical idea that does not describe reality), while the potential losses of not believing are far greater than the potential benefits.
Our paper is largely a pedagogical exercise, with interesting realizations worthy of a record in the scientific literature.
By far, the most likely outcome will be that 3I/ATLAS is a completely natural interstellar object, probably a comet, and we await the astronomical data to support this likely origin.
Nevertheless, when viewed from an open-minded and unprejudiced perspective, our paper includes many compelling insights that could be applied to tens of interstellar objects that are expected to be detected over the next decade by the Vera C. Rubin observatory.
The existential risk from alien intelligence (external AI) is not discussed as often as other existential risks, like artificial intelligence (our AI).
In a dark forest, uncertainties about one’s relative strength may argue for hiding as a survival mechanism, especially if a civilization was bruised in the past.
In addition, dominance could be time dependent as there might always be some rising young technological civilization which becomes powerful quickly — requiring reconnaissance missions on trajectories similar to that of 3I/ATLAS.
We might soon realize that the extension of natural selection to interstellar space involves survival of the fittest.
In a recent essay, I provided a menu of methods for distinguishing an extraterrestrial spacecraft from an interstellar rock.
Here’s hoping that this menu will be used by other astronomers. Ignoring the technological option is not a sign of intelligence.
