The Issue
Dear North Carolina representatives,
Please STOP THE BAN OF RAW MILK FOR PETS for North Carolinians, which was recently added to Senate Bill 639. Please hear our voices as we join together to say let the people have the freedom to choose whether or not to buy raw milk for their pets.
This petition is to represent citizens of NC that do not want raw milk banned for pets. We stand together as a large group of North Carolinians that span the state and span political parties. This petition has been made to give a voice to pet parents, pet retailers, farmers, animal rescuers, veterinarians, republicans, democrats, independents, libertarians, raw milk advocates, and people who just don’t want a product for their pets banned. This petition is for people who feed their pets raw milk, and for those that don’t, but don’t think that it should be illegal for others to do so.
As pet retailers who have been selling raw milk for pets for over 15 years, and pet owners who have been feeding raw milk to our pets just as long, we are in shock that the NC Senate Bill 639 has been amended to make the sale of this product illegal in the state of North Carolina. When our customers find out, they are shocked. When we tell others in the community, they are shocked. We are receiving testimonials and being asked what is going on and what can we do. I don’t have the answers to all of their questions, but I can create this petition for everyone that wants to stand with us against Senate Bill 639.
We sell raw milk for pets at our stores every single day, as well as feed it to our own pets every day. The math on how much raw milk we have sold for pets over the past 15 years is beyond me. We have a front-row seat to raw milk helping dogs and cats live healthier, longer, and happier lives. We cannot begin to tell you how many lives we have personally seen saved and transformed by this one simple product.
We sell milk from national pet food brands that are sold across the US, and from a local family farm, all of which follow strict safety protocols. We are selective about the quality of milk that we sell and while we trust these sources, we also respect anyone that is not interested in feeding this product to their pet. If a customer does not want to purchase raw milk for their pet, we respect their choice. For those that do want it, we are happy to have it available for them.
The proposed legislation in North Carolina Senate Bill 639, would remove North Carolinians’ ability to make that choice and ban the sale of all raw pet milk. This ban would not only impact businesses like ours across the state that sell raw milk for pets, but it also impacts small family farms that produce raw pet milk. Furthermore, it would deprive countless pet owners and animal rescuers of a beneficial product that improves the quality of life for their dogs and cats. For pets that rely on this product, are their owners to drive across state lines to where raw milk is completely legal (even for human consumption)?
Raw pet milk has been cherished by many pet owners due to its nutritional benefits. It contains probiotics, vitamins, and minerals that aid in digestion, enhance the immune system, and promote overall health in pets. For many animals, raw milk has been a crucial part of their diet, supporting their health and vitality in ways processed foods often can't. Nearly every day, we witness the positive transformations in pets who consume this product, and eliminating their access to it would be a disservice to pet communities across the state.
By standing together against Senate Bill 639, we can protect the right of pet owners to choose natural and beneficial dietary options for their beloved animals. By signing this petition, we join together in the fight to preserve the availability of raw pet milk in North Carolina. Our voices matter in ensuring a healthier, happier future for pets across the state.
