During an interview Monday with Fox New’s Bret Baier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi admitted that several of Iran’s nuclear facilities had been “seriously damaged/destroyed” but that the extent of the damage is still under evaluation, adding that Iran is not currently enriching uranium because of damage caused to the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities by last month’s strikes by the U.S. Air Force and Navy.

US to leave UNESCO
Washington perceives the agency as hostile to Israel and influenced by China
The US has announced its withdrawal from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) over alleged anti-Israel bias.
In February, President Donald Trump ordered a 90-day review by the State Department into US involvement in UNESCO programs. The move was part of abroader push to disengage from UN institutionsthat officials claim act counter to American interests and undermine US allies, while “propagating anti-Semitism.”
Trump’s decision to exit the agency followed findings thatUNESCO “works to advance divisive social and cultural causes,” the State Department declared on Tuesday. It also cited the agency’s recognition of the state of Palestine and “proliferation of anti-Israeli rhetoric within the organization.”
UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay called the development regrettable, if anticipated, and stressed the organization’s role in Holocaust education and the fight against anti-Semitism.
The US has previously withdrawn from UNESCO. President Ronald Reagan did so in 1984, citing financial mismanagementand accusations that the agency’s policies undermined free markets in favor of so-called Third World agendas. That decision was reversed by President George W. Bush in 2002 as the US sought global support for the Iraq invasion.
Trump pulled out of the agency again during his first term, only for President Joe Biden to rejoin UNESCO in 2023.
The New York Post was the first to report the imminent announcement, followed by other media outlets. The newspaper cited UNESCO programs addressing gender and racial discrimination that the Trump administration’s review found objectionable. The administration also believes “China has leveraged its influence over UNESCO to advance global standards that are favorable to Beijing’s interests,” White House deputy spokesperson Anna Kelly told the Post.
Beijing urged Washington to avoid “confrontation and division” at UNESCOwhen US membership was last restored.
Israeli officials have previously accused UNESCO of anti-Semitism, particularly over its recognition of Palestinian cultural heritage sites in occupied territories. Israel left the agency alongside the US in 2019.
UNESCO has denied disregarding Jewish historical legacy in Palestine.
Last month, Trump authorized US military strikes on Iran in support of an Israeli campaign targeting Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure – an action that drew international criticism and was labeled by some governments as unlawful aggression.

Trump’s team sees Netanyahu as ‘madman’ – Axios
The White House said the US president was “caught off guard” by the Israeli strikes on Syria
The administration of US President Donald Trump increasingly views Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “madman”undermining Washington’s diplomatic efforts in the Middle East, Axios has reported.
Israel conducted airstrikes last week on Syrian government forces and military headquarters in Damascus in response to bloody clashes between the Druze and Bedouin communities in southern Syria. A ceasefire announced on Saturday appears to be holding.
“After several bloody days in Suwayda Province, the Internal Security Forces have succeeded in calming the situation following their deployment in the northern and western areas,” Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab wrote on X.
Despite the truce, US officials have become “significantly more alarmed” by Netanyahu’s behavior and policies, Axios reported on Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter.
“Bibi acted like a madman. He bombs everything all the time,” the outlet quoted a White House official as saying. “This could undermine what Trump is trying to do.”
“The president doesn’t like turning on the television and seeing bombs dropped in a country where he’s seeking peace and has made a monumental announcement to help rebuild,” the official added.
On Monday, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump “was caught off guard” by both the strikes in Syria and a recent Israeli attack on Gaza’s only Catholic church. “In both cases, the president quickly called the prime minister to rectify these situations,” Leavitt said.
Netanyahu’s office said on Thursday that it “deeply regrets” the strike on the Holy Family Church, which killed three people, and pledged to investigate the incident. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the strikes in Syria were intended to protect the Druze population from atrocities. (An Ancient Church, they knew what they were doing.)

Kremlin reveals expectations for upcoming Ukraine talks
A miracle breakthrough should not be expected in the third round of negotiations in Istanbul, spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said
Russia does not expect a breakthrough “of the miraculous kind” in the upcoming peace negotiations with Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.
The third round of talks is expected to take place this week in Istanbul, where the two sides met in May and June.
During the previous round last month, the two delegations exchanged draft memorandums on peace terms and agreed to humanitarian measures, including the return of prisoners of war and transferring the remains of soldiers.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Peskov said Russia hopes the next meeting will be held this week, adding that the date will be announced once both sides are ready.
According to the spokesman, the upcoming session will include discussions of the memorandums shared earlier, among other topics.
Asked about Moscow’s expectations for the upcoming talks, Peskovsaid, “there is no reason to count on any miraculous breakthroughs,” as the situation is too complex.
Peskov pushed back, however, against suggestions that the talks will be fruitless. He pointed to previous progress, such as the humanitarian exchanges, saying they represent tangible results.
He reiterated that Russia expects to secure its interests and “fulfill the tasks that we set from the very beginning.”
Asked whether a peace deal could be expected within a year or any other time period, Peskov said, “Any forecasts would be wrong” due to the number of variables involved.

Call to end Gaza war is ‘wrong and dangerous’ – Israeli official
A joint statement by 28 nations urging a ceasefire undermines talks with Hamas, prime ministerial adviser Dmitry Gendelman has claimed
A joint call by 28 countries for an immediate end to the war in Gaza and the full resumption of humanitarian aid is “wrong and dangerous” and undermines ongoing negotiations, an adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday.
The statement – signed by more than a dozen EU nations, along with Britain, Japan, Canada, Australia, Norway, New Zealand, Switzerland, and others – warned that Gaza’s humanitarian crisis had reached intolerable levels. The foreign ministers condemned the “drip feeding of aid”and the “inhumane killing of civilians, including children” seeking food and water. Citing UN and Gaza Health Ministry figures showing over 800 Palestinians killed while seeking aid, the statement called the situation “horrifying” and urged Israel to meet its obligations under international humanitarian law.
Netanyahu’s adviser Dmitry Gendelman said the appeal sent Hamas a “wrong and dangerous message,” calling it a “delusion” that ignored the “obvious truth” that Hamas alone was blocking a ceasefire. He accused the militant group of launching the war, holding hostages, and rejecting “clear and fair” truce proposals accepted by Israel.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry also dismissed the statement as “disconnected from reality,”accusing Hamas of prolonging the war by refusing a US-backed ceasefire and hostage deal.
Ceasefire talks resumed in Doha on July 6 under US, Qatari, and Egyptian mediation. The current proposal, reportedly endorsed by Israel, involves a 60‑day truce, phased hostage releases, partial Israeli troop withdrawals, and expanded humanitarian aid.Hamas, however, is demanding a full and permanent ceasefire, complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and international guarantees on reconstruction.
Israel launched its military campaign in Gaza in 2023 after a deadly Hamas incursion. Since then, over 59,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Gaza’s 2 million residents face a dire humanitarian crisis, with 90% displaced and dependent on limited aid. The 21-month war has pushed the territory to the brink of famine and sparked global protests.
Israel’s actions during the conflict have triggered genocide accusations and led to an ICC arrest warrant for Netanyahu. The EU, UK, Canada, and France have warned of possible sanctions if conditions do not improve.
