the point, I think, was that throughout the middle ages most people could not read latin.
and the roman catholic church prevented any translations which effectively meant only the church and the well/highly educated could actually read it.
idiots in white coats spouting latin in order to obfuscate the truth - scientists (chemists) and medical doctors fulfill this role these days (white coats and latin in any case)
