For the first time in years, the usually quiet forests along the Thailand-Cambodia border have echoed with the sound of war.

On July 24, 2025, Thailand took a dramatic step-deploying F-16 fighter jets to strike back at Cambodian military positions, marking the most serious escalation in a long-standing border dispute in over a decade.

It started with landmines and rising tension, a few weeks ago, Thai soldiers were severely injured in what Thailand claimed were newly planted explosives. Cambodia denied it, saying they were leftovers from the Khmer Rouge era.

But words quickly turned to weapons.

A few days ago, Cambodian rocket fire struck Thai villages, tragically killing a young girl and an elderly man in Surin province. Photos from the scene show scorched homes and stunned families clutching one another. This wasn't just a border dispute anymore, it hit home.

Thailand's response was swift and powerful. Six F-16s took to the sky, targeting what the Thai military says were rocket launch pads and Cambodian military bunkers near the Ta Moan Thom area.
