not saying these people shouldn't be shot down and not saying some of the questions ARE basic, but our law is massive. who can reasonably remember it all. law school doesn't really even teach all of it, just the basic parts. it's more about learning how it works, how to draft shit and navigate the process. the #1 skill is researching, not knowing all the facts, tests, circumstances off-the-cuff.
gotcha questions are bullshit. most lawyers/judges are very specialized. even the good ones still need to gather pieces, research, and then come back with an analysis.
congress doing this is shady because if there are actually good candidates, then any could be made to look silly.
I don't doubt these and many other judges and lawyers are corrupt. Incapable? It's tough to get through law school and be totally incapable.
Do they need a deep assessment, sure, but this is the dumbest way to do it.
I'd be more concerned about why Hawley and Kennedy are playing these games.
