US Raid Takes Out Senior ISIS Leader In Northern Syria

It's 2025, a 'former' emissary of the Islamic State's top leadership is now president of Syria - who happens to also be the founder of al Qaeda in Syria (al-Nusrah Front, since rebranded the ruling Hayat Tahrir al-Sham/HTS) - and the United States is still claiming that its occupying forces are busy fighting ISIS across various parts of the country.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Friday says a raid in the Aleppo region took out senior ISIS Leader Dhiya’ Zawba Muslih al-Hardani and his two adult ISIS-affiliated sons, Abdallah Dhiya al-Hardani and Abd al-Rahman Dhiya Zawba al-Hardani.

It happened in the early morning hours in al-Bab, Aleppo Governate, as the ISIS individuals were described as posing a threat to "US and Coalition Forces, as well as the new Syrian Government."

The announcement also mentioned the presence of civilians at the location of the raid. The statement indicated that "Three women and three children were also on the target and were unharmed."

"We will continue to relentlessly pursue ISIS terrorists wherever they operate. ISIS terrorists are not safe where they sleep, where they operate, and where they hide. Alongside our partners and allies, U.S. Central Command is committed to the enduring defeat of ISIS terrorists that threaten the region, our allies, and our homeland,” said Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla.

It remains that the US-backed government in Damascus literally has high and mid-level officials who previously were members of ISIS.

Ruling HTS fighters also continue to be regularly photographed and filmed wearing ISIS patches. From the start of the war in Syria over a decade ago, the assortment of global jihadists in Syria have merged, coordinated, and have passed among different groups, from the FSA to Nusra Front to ISIS, and everything in between.

The West and Gulf states still deemed them 'moderate' - and funneled hundreds of millions of dollars in weapons to these jihadists as part of the long-running effort to topple Assad.

McDonald's McHire AI Bot Just Exposed The Personal Data Of 64 McMillion People

A security lapse in McDonald’s job application system could have exposed the personal details of around 64 million people — all because someone used the password “123456", according to Tom's Hardware.

"That's amazing. We've got the same combination on our luggage!"

Researchers Ian Carroll and Sam Curry discovered serious flaws in McHire, the chatbot developed by Paradox.ai and used by most McDonald’s franchises for recruitment. While poking around, they found that internal accounts used by Paradox staff were protected by one of the most commonly guessed passwords in the world: “123456.”

The report says Carroll compared it to his own teenage mistake of using “1234” on a forum account. “That’s slightly better than the password I used, I guess,” he wrote, “but not enough to justify its use decades after most people realized that using weak passwords is a bad idea.”

Using that flimsy credential, the researchers gained administrative access — though initially only to a test restaurant account tied to Paradox employees. That let them explore the system, but didn’t prove any real-world risk. The real issue came when they found a second vulnerability: an insecure direct object reference (IDOR) flaw in the McHire API.

That bug let them pull sensitive data from any chat-based application submitted to McDonald’s — names, email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses, application details, and even login tokens that allowed full access to user chats and potentially more.

Paradox once boasted that 90% of McDonald’s franchises relied on McHire for hiring, though that claim has since quietly vanished from its blog.

To put things in context: Paradox raised $200 million in 2020. McDonald’s is worth over $200 billion. And yet a system handling tens of millions of people’s private information was essentially protected by the digital equivalent of a sticky note on a monitor.

The only silver lining? Carroll and Curry say the vulnerabilities were patched within 24 hours of being reported. With any luck, McDonald’s and Paradox will aim for better cybersecurity hygiene going forward — maybe even something a little more secure than “123456.”

JPMorgan, Bank Of America Subpoenaed Over IPO Of China's CATL

The House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party has issued subpoenas to JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America, requiring the banks to provide documents related to their roles in the initial public offering (IPO) of Chinese battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. (CATL).

In a July 24 statement, Rep. John Moolenaar (R-Mich.), chair of the committee, said CATL is “a key player in China’s military-civil fusion strategy,” which poses risks to U.S. investors and the national security of the United States.

Moolenaar said the committee had requested the banks to provide all documents related to their roles in underwriting CATL’s IPO in April but has yet to receive all the required information.

Bank of America produced 10 documents, nine of which are publicly available, and JPMorgan provided only one public document in response to that request, according to his statement.

“We asked for answers months ago. They stonewalled. Wall Street shouldn’t be underwriting Chinese military companies—and the American people deserve transparency,” Moolenaar stated.

He urged JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon and Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan to comply with the subpoenas and provide the congressional panel with all required documents by Aug. 8.

JPMorgan has declined to comment. The Bank of America stated that it would engage with the House select committee on the matter.

“We’ve had constructive engagement with the committee and will continue to engage,” a Bank of America representative said in an emailed statement to The Epoch Times.

CATL was designated by the Department of Defense as a Chinese military company in January.

The company has rejected the designation and said it is “not engaged in any military-related activities.”

“It does not restrict CATL from conducting business with entities other than DoD and is expected to have no substantially adverse impact on our business,” CATL said in a Jan. 7 statement.

However, 233,000 have not received notifications to appear before immigration courts, and until October 2024, more than 43,000 with court orders did not attend their hearings. Additionally, 31,000 release forms for sponsors lacked valid addresses, according to the Inspector General’s office.

Since February, ICE has been searching for these minors, primarily males aged 14 to 17 from Guatemala (32%), Honduras (20%), Mexico (20%), and El Salvador (8%), scattered across several states. In early July 2025, Trump announced the recovery of 10,000 minors, promising to continue locating more, with federal agencies actively working to find them by the thousands.

In addition, ICE has arrested 422 sponsors suspected of child abuse or other crimes, as part of a multifaceted investigation involving federal agencies, local police, and Child Protective Services (CPS).

Russia weighs in on Palestinian statehood

A two-state solution is the only way to settle the Middle East conflict, the Kremlin has said

The only way to resolve the Middle East conflict is through the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday.

His statement followed French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement that France will formally recognize Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September.

”Russia has always adhered to a two-state solution as the basis for resolving the Palestinian issue,” Peskov told reporters. Moscow’s recognition dates to 1988, when the Soviet Union endorsed the Palestinian declaration of independence.

According to Peskov, peace “can only be achieved by adhering to UN Security Council resolutions,” which have declared Israeli occupation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem illegal and called for a ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

Macron’s decision, announced on social media, aims to advance a “just and lasting peace.” France would become the first major Western power to recognize Palestine, joining over 140 countries that already do.

The decision drew sharp criticism from Israel and the US. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it a “reward for terror” and a threat to Israel’s existence. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the decision as “reckless,” accusing Macron of undermining peace efforts.

Saudi Arabia and Spain welcomed the announcement. Riyadh called it “historic,” while Madrid urged other Western countries to follow France’s lead.

In a significant yet non-binding move, the Israeli legislature has overwhelmingly approved a declaration urging the immediate extension of Israeli sovereignty over Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank and the Jordan Valley.

The motion, which passed by a vote of 71 to 13, was backed by right-wing and center-right factions including Likud, Shas, Religious Zionism, Otzma Yehudit, and Yisrael Beiteinu.

The text declares that the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas — referred to in Israeli political discourse as the “Simchat Torah Massacre” — proves that the creation of a Palestinian state poses a mortal danger to Israel’s existence.

“The Knesset declares that the State of Israel has the natural, historical, and legal right to all parts of the Land of Israel,” the resolution reads. “The Knesset calls on the Government of Israel to act without delay to apply sovereignty… over all areas of Jewish settlement in Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley.”

“This is not symbolic at all”

Though labeled symbolic, Palestinian experts view the vote as laying the bureaucratic foundation for a permanent Israeli presence and governance in the West Bank, the heartland of a future Palestinian state as envisioned by international consensus.

Saad Nimr, professor of political science at Birzeit University in the West Bank, told RT the implications of the Knesset’s move are far-reaching.

“This is not symbolic at all,” Nimr said. “It means these settlements are now treated as Israeli cities. They’re no longer ‘occupied’ under military law. This is the legal and bureaucratic infrastructure of annexation.”

He continued: “The Israeli ministries — not the military — will now oversee health, welfare, planning, and infrastructure in these areas. It’s not about theory. It’s about bulldozers, budgets, and expansion.”

Dimitri Diliani, a member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council, echoed that sentiment.

“To describe the vote as symbolic is dangerously naive,” Diliani warned. “In Israeli politics, symbolism is often a precursor to de facto annexation. While the Knesset motion lacks binding legislative authority, it institutionalizes consensus in both government and opposition to expand the State of Israel’s settler-colonial project with new domestic political legitimacy.”

Diliani added that members of the Knesset are already pushing legislation to replace the internationally recognized term “West Bank” with the biblical “Judea and Samaria” — further entrenching a nationalist narrative in Israeli law.

A political transaction to preserve Netanyahu’s coalition

Many analysts see the vote not only as ideological, but also as a tactical political maneuver to preserve Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s fragile governing coalition.

“It’s quite clear this was a political exchange,” said Nimr. “[The leader of the National Religious Party–Religious Zionism Bezalel] Smotrich and [the leader of the Otzma Yehudit (“Jewish Power”) party] Ben Gvir threatened to leave the government if negotiations in Doha led to a Gaza ceasefire. This vote is Netanyahu’s way of keeping them on board.”

By offering the far right a symbolic prize on annexation, Netanyahu appears to be stalling a government collapse – even as truce talks with Hamas continue under Qatari mediation.

Diliani described the move as “opportunistic,” adding: “It’s designed to pre-empt mounting international legal scrutiny, particularly after the International Court of Justice advisory opinion in July 2023, which declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal.”

International condemnations without teeth

The reaction from the international community was swift but toothless. Jordan condemned the vote as “a blatant violation of international law.” The European Union and the Arab League issued similarly worded rebukes, reaffirming their commitment to a two-state solution.

Scottish Government Vows to Harangue President Trump on Gaza When he Heads to Turnberry This Weekend

U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to arrive in Scotland, north Britain on Friday afternoon for a four-day personal trip which the leader of Scotland’s devolved government said he would use to talk about the Gaza war.

First Minister John Swinney said he wanted to use the chance of Scotland being front-page news worldwide to “showcase” the home nation, to “advance our interests”, but also to talk Gaza. The leader of the devolved assembly, one of three within the United Kingdom, will meet President Trump during his visit this weekend, as will UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

Underlining his priorities, Swinney said: “As we welcome the president of the United States, Scotland will be showcased on the world stage. This provides Scotland with a platform to make its voice heard on the issues that matter, including war and peace, justice and democracy.”

This incudes using his sit-down time with President Trump to express his views on “humanitarian issues of significant importance, including the unimaginable suffering we are witnessing in Gaza, and ensure Scotland’s voice is heard at the highest levels of government across the world”, he said.

President Trump is part British, his mother Mary Anne Macleod having emigrated from Scotland to New York in 1930 where she married Frederick Trump.

During his visit, President Trump is expected to visit his Turnberry and Aberdeen golf courses. His last visit to Scotland saw protests and protests are expected again, with the largest Scottish police deployment in years underway and several media outlets focussing on negative political expressions against the President.

The Times of London appeared to stand nearly alone in speaking to local Scottish residents around his Turnberry course, who expressed their “love” for the President, the jobs he brings to the area, and generous “$50 tips”, something unusual in the UK which does not have a strongly established tipping culture.

The trip to Scotland is separate from President Trump’s planned state visit to the United Kingdom due to take place later in the summer, when he will be hosted in Windsor by King Charles III.
