Delta pilot about to fly transatlantic route failed breathalyzer, officials say

A Delta Airlines transatlantic flight bound for New York City was canceled when the pilot was arrested after she failed a breathalyzer test, police have told the Swedish media.

The pilot was charged with suspicion of drunkenness and taken into custody at Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport around 9:00 am local time Tuesday, according to police spokesperson Nadya Norton, to Swedish daily newspaper Aftonbladet. The newspaper reported that the pilot is from the U.S.

In a statement to The Independent, a spokesperson for Delta said that there was “no pilot intoxication” and that she has been released from custody.

“We continue to work with authorities to review what occurred,” the statement added.

The nearly nine-hour Delta Air Lines flight 205 was due to arrive in the U.S. at around 1 p.m. Eastern time. According to Aftonbladet, the suspect is a pilot from the U.S.

The woman has been detained and is in custody pending a prosecutor's review, according to ABC New York. A prosecutor now has 72 hours to decide whether to charge or release her.

Under Swedish law, the pilot could face a fine or up to six months in jail for a "normal violation." If the blood alcohol level is significantly high, the penalty can go up to two years in prison. Police informed ABC News that, in this incident, it did not appear to be the case.

In a statement, Delta Air Lines said it will fully cooperate with authorities, "as nothing is more important than the safety and security of our customers and people. We apologize to our customers for the disruption to their travel, and teams are working to get them to their destinations as soon as possible."

Pilots in the U.S. are required to adhere to an 8-hour “bottle to throttle rule,” meaning they must not fly while under the influence, and must not fly while using any drug that could “adversely affect safety,” according to Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.

The passengers on the morning flight were entitled to receive $705 in cash compensation because of the incident, according to aviation site View From The Wing.

The compensation, which covers all passengers who were on board the 226-seat Boeing 767-332 aircraft, will cost Delta approximately $160,000, thanks to European Union rule 261, which covers lengthy delays and inconvenience.

Costs associated with temporary lodging, meals, and any possible disruption to follow-on flights are not included in the payout, VFTW reports.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency mandates random alcohol testing for flight and cabin crew operating out of EU member states, as per Regulation 2018/1042.

However, this incident is reportedly not the first case of alleged intoxication to occur, as two Delta flight attendants working on Delta’s flight 49 from Amsterdam to New York JFK were also arrested for failing a breathalyzer in November 2024.

A Big Apple rally in support of on-his-way-out “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert drew fewer than two dozen people Sunday — with even the NYPD cops on scene quickly calling it a day since most of the demonstrators left after just a few minutes.

Organizers said the “We’re With Colbert” gathering outside the CBS Broadcast Center on Manhattan’s West Side said it was meant to be part of a nationwide call for “integrity.”

“Our country is not perfect, never has been,” said the event’s organizer, who would only identify himself as Matt and said his nickname is “Slim.”

“But we’ve always had the First Amendment, and now Mango Mussolini is trying to take that from us,” he said, referring to a derogatory nickname for President Trump.

CBS said declining viewership and diminishing profits led to its decision to end the show in May 2026, effectively firing the 61-year-old talk-show host Colbert — but critics claim the network bowed to pressure from Trump.

CBS’s parent company finalized an $8.4 billion merger with Skydance Media shortly after Colbert was told he was on his last season. The merger required federal approval.

Colbert has also been among the top talk-show hosts who routinely roast Trump.

“This is a First Amendment attack,” a protester who refused to give her name said of the closing-down of the show. “We can’t stand for that.”

Still, Colbert has also come under fire for featuring predominantly lefty-leaning guests.

According to the right-leaning group MRC NewsBusters, Colbert has had 176 liberal guests and only one Republican on his show since 2022.

DELTA pilot arrested on child porn charges

Passengers were left shocked as federal agents stormed the cockpit of Delta flight just moments after the plane landed in San Francisco.

One of the plane’s pilots was arrested on child porn charges by officers from multiple agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred on board Delta Flight 2809 around 9:35 p.m. local time on Saturday. The flight departed from Minneapolis earlier in the day. The landing was delayed due to heavy fog in the Bay Area.

Fox News national correspondent Bill Melugin reported that the pilot was arrested on charges related to child sexual abuse materials.

“A group of people with badges, guns, and different agency vests/markings were pushing their way up through the aisle to the cockpit,” first class passenger Sarah Christianson told The San Francisco Chronicle.

She also described the officers as having “stormed the cockpit, cuffed the co-pilot, arrested him, walked him down the aisle, and ushered him off the plane through the cabin doors located between first and coach.”

Christianson told the newspaper that the other pilot told the passengers that he was just as confused as everybody else about what was going on. She went on to describe the incident as “shocking and unnerving.” Christianson said that she counted around ten officers involved in the arrest.

In a separate interview, Christianson said that she was reduced to tears following the ordeal.

“It was scary. It was traumatic to watch. As soon as my husband picked me up from baggage claim, I jumped in the car and cried. Because who knows what's happening to that poor person? Why that happened? What did we just see?” she told ABC San Francisco.

After the pilot was led away, officers remained on board, collecting his belongings. He had not been publicly identified.

Just last week, a Delta pilot was arrested in Sweden after allegedly failing a breathalyzer test, something the pilot and the airline have denied.

An illegal alien from Honduras faces deportation after allegedly driving while intoxicated and crashing, killing two teenagers in Dane County, Wisconsin.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer against 30-year-old Noelia Saray Martinez-Avila, who was charged in the deaths of 18-year-old Hallie Helgeson and 19-year-old Brady Heiling.

"Hallie Helgeson and Brady Heiling had their whole lives ahead of them—and they would still be alive today if it weren’t for Noelia Saray Martinez-Avila—a criminal illegal alien from Honduras," Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said. "Martinez-Avila recklessly drove the wrong way on a highway while intoxicated and killed these two teens.

"ICE has lodged an arrest detainer to remove this public safety threat from the U.S.," she continued. "Unfortunately, this sanctuary jurisdiction has a history of not honoring ICE arrest detainers often leading to the release of murderers and other heinous criminals. Under Secretary Noem, these precious victims will not be forgotten, and we will fight for justice."
