Alastair John Naisbitt King is the 696th Lord Mayor of the City of London for 2024/25.
He was elected as the Lord Mayor taking office on 8 November 2024.
King is a British financier and asset manager, serving as the chairman of Naisbitt King Asset Management Ltd.
He has been an Alderman of the City of London since 2016 and was commissioned a Deputy Lieutenant for Greater London in 2022.
King was also a Sheriff of London for 2022/23.
As the Lord Mayor, King serves as the elected head of the City of London Corporation and acts as an international ambassador for the UK's financial and professional services sector.
His role includes hosting heads of state, heads of governments, and other foreign dignitaries.
King's Mayoral theme is "Growth Unleashed," focusing on encouraging responsible risk-taking, driving technology adoption, and celebrating the diverse communities across the UK.
King was born in 1968 at Cambridge to an academic father, Jack Naisbitt King MBE, and an artist mother, Ruth née Lewis.
He attended Oundle School and read Law at the University of Kent before pursuing further studies in Finance at London Business School.
Qualifying as a solicitor in 1995, King practiced with Baker McKenzie in the City and in Asia, where he started investing in emerging markets.
In addition to his role as Lord Mayor, King is the Chairman of Common Earth, an environmental foundation, since January 2019.
He is also involved in various charitable organizations, including Vice-Chairman of Breast Cancer Haven and Chairman of the British Liver Trust.
King was installed as the new Rector of City St George’s, University of London, at a winter graduation ceremony held at the Barbican.
King's first public engagement as Lord Mayor was the Lord Mayor’s Show on 9 November 2024, which was broadcast by the BBC and can be watched on BBC iPlayer.
