France Suffers Massive Military Data Leak from Naval Group
On July 23, 2025, France experienced one of its largest military data breaches in history when a hacker known as “Neferpitou” leaked approximately 13 gigabytes of sensitive information from Naval Group, the country’s leading naval defense contractor. The stolen data reportedly includes source codes for combat management systems, nuclear software, technical manuals, and information on the Rafale-M fighter jet.
The hacker threatened to release up to 1 terabyte of additional data unless Naval Group engaged within 72 hours. Naval Group has denied any confirmed intrusion, labeling the incident a “reputational attack” and stating it is cooperating closely with French authorities to investigate the breach.
If the leak is confirmed, it could expose critical vulnerabilities in France’s naval capabilities and pose risks to allied nations that rely on shared military technology. This incident highlights the growing threat of cyberattacks targeting defense sectors worldwide.
