The original U.S. Customs Ensign was designed by Treasury Secretary Oliver Wolcott in 1799, 10 years after the founding of U.S. Customs Service. It was the first flag designed specifically for an agency of the federal government. Today, a modified version of the flag is used by CBP. On the 236th anniversary of the U.S. Customs Service, we remember our legacy.
