On Thursday, newly declassified documents reveal that not only did the CIA believe a Russian intelligence assessment that the 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign planned to smear Donald Trump by linking him to the Kremlin, it's clear that the FBI helped the Clinton campaign orchestrate the Russia hoax to distract from its investigation into her emails.

To review:

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard earlier this month declassified several documents - including a 2020 House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) report and other intelligence communications revealing that the Obama administration "manufactured and politicized intelligence" to create a false narrative that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help Trump defeat Hillary Clinton.

Gabbard’s releases highlight the inclusion of the Steele dossier - an unverified report funded by the Clinton campaign alleging ties between Trump and Russia - in the 2017 ICA as an annex. The hoax dossier was used to bolster the Russian interference narrative, despite CIA objections and its discredited status. The HPSCI report states that Brennan insisted on referencing the dossier, even though senior CIA officers warned it was flawed, with Brennan allegedly saying, “doesn’t it ring true?

Gabbard has called these actions a “treasonous conspiracy” led by Obama, Brennan, Clapper, James Comey, Susan Rice, and others, aimed at undermining Trump’s presidency. She has referred the documents to the Justice Department and FBI for investigation into potential criminal implications.

And now we have the Durham annex… which includes a 2016 memorandum alleging that Russian intelligence knew of a Clinton campaign plan to tie Trump to Russian hackers. This memo claims the plan was designed to “distract the [American] public from the Clinton email server scandal.” Gabbard’s HPSCI report similarly references Russian intelligence claiming Clinton’s campaign discussed linking Putin to Trump.

Clinton’s Approval of Smear Campaign: Pages 4 and 5 of the annex, highlighted in X posts, contain a 2016 memorandum alleging that Clinton personally approved a plan on July 26, 2016, to frame Trump with Russian hacking claims. The memo suggests this was to distract from her email scandal, with coordination involving DNC leadership and outside groups.

Russian Intelligence Awareness: The annex confirms that Russian intelligence was aware of this plan, which aligns with Gabbard’s claim that the FBI and CIA had access to this information but pursued the Trump-Russia narrative anyway.

No New Criminal Charges: Despite these allegations, Durham’s broader investigation (2019–2023) found no evidence of a criminal conspiracy among Obama officials to fabricate intelligence. A newly unclassified document suggests George Soros’ Open Society Foundation was involved in the effort by the Hillary Clinton campaign in 2016 to falsely accuse then-candidate Donald Trump of ties to Russia.

The document, a 29-page annex to John Durham’s 2023 Special Counsel report, was released by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday shortly after it was declassified. It sheds more light on what Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) described as “one of the biggest political scandals and cover-ups in American history.”

“Based on the Durham annex, the Obama FBI failed to adequately review and investigate intelligence reports showing the Clinton campaign may have been ginning up the fake Trump-Russia narrative for Clinton’s political gain… These intelligence reports and related records, whether true or false, were buried for years,” Grassley said in a statement.

The annex cites several emails allegedly sent by Leonard Benardo, senior vice president of Open Society Foundations, throughout July 2016, which provide details on the Clinton campaign’s plans to falsely accuse Trump of Russia links and tie him to the alleged Democratic National Committee (DNC) hack. Analysis by the Durham team concluded the Benardo emails “were likely authentic,” the annex states.

“During the first stage of the campaign, due to lack of direct evidence, it was decided to disseminate the necessary information through the FBI-affiliated ‘attic-based’ technical structures… in particular, the Crowdstrike and ThreatConnect companies, from where the information would then be disseminated through leading US publications,” one of the emails reads.

Another email purportedly sent by Benardo states that the “media analysis on the DNC hacking appears solid” and suggests that “later the FBI will put more oil into fire,” apparently predicting the probe by the agency. It also cites an individual named “Julie,” identified in the annex as Clinton’s foreign policy adviser Julianne Smith, who said the future Russiagate “will be a long term affair to demonize [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and Trump.”

REPORT: Obama’s Deep State Officials Allegedly Threatened Russigate Whistleblower

An associate of then-Director of National Intelligence (DNI) James Clapper allegedly threatened to withhold a promotion from a senior intelligence official turned whistleblower over his refusal to endorse a key assessment on allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 election, a Thursday report shows.

The notes detail a 2017 conversation in which an Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) analyst was allegedly told needed to “outgrow” his refusal to sign off on assessments he hadn’t personally verified as a condition for a promotion.

“You need to trust me on this,” an official told the analyst, according to notes exclusively obtained by The Federalist.

The anonymous analyst responded by saying that he “would need to review any reporting myself in order to consider it,” according to the notes taken by the whistleblower and reviewed by The Federalist.

“There is reporting you are not allowed to see,” the supervisor allegedly said regarding the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA), adding, “if you saw it, you would agree,” according to The Federalist.

The whistleblower claimed the official said he needed his agreement on the judgments, “so that [Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA)] will go along with them!”

The whistleblower wrote that the conversation shifted to the “DIA’s supposed trust in me, and the necessity of me proving my ‘corporate IC officer’ bona-fides by doing what it took to bring DIA on board …” according to The Federalist.

The whistleblower refused to sign off on the ICA, leading to the DIA to not join the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National Security Agency’s (NSA) in approving “the final non-compartmented versions of the ICA,” according to the report.

A person familiar with the notes told The Federalist the alleged conversation was not documented until over six years later, due to a delay after the whistleblower unsuccessfully tried to share his concerns with the inspector general of the intelligence community (IC), Special Counsel John Durham and Democrat Virginia Sen. Mark Warner.

It was only on March 31, 2023, that the whistleblower drafted a summary of his claims, a person familiar told the outlet.

Colorado Court Hears Habeas Corpus Petition of Tina Peters

Last Tuesday, the Tina Peters saga continued in a Colorado courthouse as lawyers went before the United States Tenth Circuit District Court of Colorado Chief Magistrate Judge Scott T. Varholak.

In front of a packed courtroom, the lawyers for the former Mesa County Clerk were poised to argue for the release of Ms. Peters at the habeas corpus hearing.

Readers will remember that last year, Tina Peters was convicted of seven of the ten charges she faced, with the most serious convictions being three counts of attempting to influence a public servant and one count of conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation.

Her sentence by District Judge Matthew Barrett raised eyebrows throughout the country when she was given near maximums for each conviction. The way the trial was handled has caused much concern, as Ms. Peters’ defense team was not allowed to use exculpatory evidence that could have cleared her name.

Outrage reached new heights when the judge’s sentences were not just based on punishment and the acceptance of responsibility, but seemed to be more focused on setting Tina as an example in the name of deterrence in an effort to prevent other clerks around the country from stepping out of line and becoming “Tina Peter’d.”

Tina’s defense team had filed a habeas corpus petition based on five arguments. The primary argument being that her First Amendment right to free speech had been violated with her imprisonment. Peters’ attorney, Peter Ticktin, argued that Peters should be released on bond pending appeal.

The Chief Magistrate Judge seemed to question the argument by noting that typical habeas corpus petitions call for the overturn of conviction or unsuccessful appeal. Varholak sought precedent to show this request was plausible under the law.

UK Government Tried to Censor Criticism of Mass Migration, ‘Two-Tier’ Policing

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) this week released the “UK Censorship Files Part 2,” in which he detailed how the United Kingdom (UK) government “tried to censor criticism” of immigration during “large-scale riots in August 2024.”

“As UK citizens become increasingly frustrated by a system weaponized against them, UK authorities wanted Big Tech to censor discussions about immigration and “narratives about the police and a ‘two-tier’ system,'” Jordan wrote.

“Britons were rightly concerned about a justice system that treated government critics more harshly than violent criminals. Right-of-center leaders in the UK were justified in criticizing this “two-tier” system of justice,” he continued.

Jordan revealed that the Committee obtained documents that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Technology Secretary Peter Kyle “tried to censor people who called out the UK’s two-tier justice system for what it was.”

President Donald Trump has warned Starmer that it would be a “mistake” for the British government to censor his Truth Social platform under the recently enacted Online Safety Act.

“We are not censoring anyone,” Starmer rebutted. “We’ve got some measures that are there to protect children.”

In one email to a big tech platform, one of the UK’s big tech regulators, known as the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology (DSIT), told platforms to monitor “narratives about … a ‘two tier system.'”

DSIT told platforms to “come back to us” on “any measures you have taken in response.”

“The implication was clear: the UK was telling platforms to censor true ‘narratives’ about a ‘two-tier’ justice system,” Jordan wrote.

Israel Is Sending Message To Syria With Strikes On Coast

Suspected Israeli strikes targeted a key base on the Syrian coast late on July 30, just a day ahead of a high-level meeting between officials from the two countries in Azerbaijan.

Video footage posted online showed a large fire at the 107th Brigade base after the strikes. The base, which is located near the city of Jableh in the southern Latakia countryside, houses depots of the former Syrian Navy with anti-ship missiles and other advanced equipment.

This was the third time strikes have targeted the base since the start of the month, with both previous attacks also blamed on Israel.

Notably, a Syrian-Israeli ministerial meeting is set to take place on July 31 in Baku, with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer in attendance, according to AFP.

A diplomat who spoke to the news agency said that the meeting will focus on “the security situation, particularly in southern Syria.”

The strike on the 107th Brigade was very likely meant as a warning message from Israel to Syria. Tensions between the two sides have been mounting since Israel intervened to stop an attack by the Syrian Islamist-led government on Druze in al-Suwayda in southern Syria earlier in the month. The battle claimed more than 1,400 people, including hundreds of Druze civilians who were executed by government forces.

What is very interesting is that the naval base was first targeted this month on July 12, just a day before the battle broke out in al-Suwayda, while the second strike came right after the United States brokered a ceasefire in the governorate on July 17.

Shaibani, who arrived in Russia on July 31 before heading to Azerbaijan, said that Israel was exploiting the “minorities card” to justify interference in Syria’s internal affairs.

Speaking at a news conference after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow, Asaad al-Shaibani asserted that the country’s Druze community is being manipulated to fracture Syrian society, reinforcing the claim that Damascus cannot protect all of its citizens.

“Israel systematically targets populated areas in the Suwayda province to incite civil unrest, potentially even reigniting civil war. It is critical that no party – especially Israel – exploits the ‘minorities card’ to justify interference in Syria’s internal affairs,” he stressed.

He also underscored Syria’s lack of aggressive intent toward Israel, noting the government’s focus on postwar reconstruction and public exhaustion after over a decade of civil war.

“The Syrian government is responsible for all its people, not select minorities. We will not allow this narrative to be weaponized again,” he said.

Shaibani also emphasized that Moscow had “unequivocally confirmed the absolute sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic” during transparent discussions with Lavrov.

“Syria’s path to stability and recovery is impossible without halting Israel’s attacks, witnessed globally. These strikes violate international law and humanitarian norms, while sabotaging our nation’s reconstruction and stabilization,” he said.
