On Tuesday, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev issued the Kremlin's response to President Trump's Monday announcement from Scotland that he's reducing a deadline for Russia to agree a peace settlement from 50 days to 10 or 12 days, citing 'disappointment' in Putin not ending or at least winding down the war.

Medvedev warned: "Russia isn't Israel or even Iran" and thus that "Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with (Trump's) own country."

That followed comments by Medvedev that Trump 'steamrolled, humiliated' Europe with his trade deal.

Then Thursday, Trump told Medvedev to "watch his words"

And now, Friday morning, President Trump took to his Truth Social account and escalated from words to actions moving two nuclear submarines to be positioned “in the appropriate regions” based on “highly provocative” statements from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

“Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances,” Trump says

As we noted earlier, Trump's position, based on his latest remarks, is that the war "should be stopped, It’s a disgrace." And yet the US still appears unwilling to strongly pressure Zelensky to make territorial concessions and to declare Ukraine will never join NATO. Washington also still continues arming Kiev.

These things remain red lines for Russia.

Bessent Says Trump Accounts For Kids Are Backdoor 'For Privatizing Social Security'

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in an interview this week that the Trump Accounts, which are aimed at helping parents save for their children’s future, are “a back door for privatizing Social Security,” before later clarifying that the administration remains committed to protecting Social Security.

Trump Accounts are tax-advantaged investment vehicles created as part of President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Under the bill, parents can contribute up to $5,000 yearly, while the federal government will contribute $1,000 into the accounts for children born in the United States between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028.

Speaking at a Breitbart policy panel, Bessent said the government seeks to enhance Americans’ financial literacy, particularly through the use of Trump Accounts, although the distribution timeline is still unclear.

“I’m not sure when the distribution level date should be … But in a way, it is a backdoor for privatizing Social Security,” Bessent said.

“Social Security is a defined benefit plan paid out that, to the extent that if all of a sudden these accounts grow, and you have in the hundreds of thousands of dollars for your retirement, then that’s a game changer too.”

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, which oversees Social Security, criticized Bessent’s remarks and accused the administration of lying about protecting the program.

“This would be a disaster for seniors and for all Americans who will rely on Social Security for a dignified retirement, and it’s a guarantee that Republicans would follow up privatization with brutal cuts that would drive vulnerable people into destitution,” Wyden said in a July 30 statement.

Bessent posted on X later on Wednesday, saying the administration remains committed to protecting Social Security and that the Trump Accounts would “supplement the sanctity of Social Security’s guaranteed payments.”

“This is not an either-or question: our administration is committed to protecting Social Security and to making sure seniors have more money,” he stated.

“This is why President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill gave tax cuts to those receiving these Social Security benefits.”

US senators propose $55bn Ukraine aid bill

Lawmakers have unveiled new legislation to send military assistance to Kiev and use frozen Russian assets to fund it

A group of US senators have introduced a bill to allocate $54.6 billion in aid to Ukraine over the 2026 and 2027 fiscal years. President Donald Trump has repeatedly opposed more US aid to Ukraine, insisting Europe should cover the costs.

The bill includes provisions for direct military assistance to Kiev and proposes using income generated from frozen Russian assets held in the United States to help finance the aid. Moscow has repeatedly warned that the seizure or use of its sovereign assets would constitute a violation of international law.

The proposed legislation would also increase funding under Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) from the current $100 million to $6 billion annually. The mechanism allows the US president to authorize emergency weapons transfers without congressional approval.

Additionally, the bill proposes allocating $1 billion to military drone production involving the US, Ukraine, and Taiwan. It also calls for the transfer of confiscated and illegal weapons seized by US authorities to Kiev and suggests counting American military aid toward Washington’s contributions to the US-Ukrainian investment fund for the country’s reconstruction.

Separate legislation advanced by the Senate Appropriations Committee would provide an additional $1 billion in “security assistance” for Ukraine, including $225 million earmarked for Baltic nations supporting Kiev.

Last month, Trump claimed that billions of dollars allocated by the Biden administration may have been misused by Ukraine, saying he doubts the money was spent on weapons as intended. He has also backed NATO-led purchases of American weapons as a business opportunity.

Former Trump adviser Steve Cortes has also criticized continued aid, calling Ukraine “corrupt” and warning that its leadership “cannot be trusted” following a recent crackdown on anti-corruption bodies.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has likewise condemned Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky as a “dictator” and called for his removal, accusing him of blocking peace efforts.

Russia has consistently denounced Western military and financial assistance to Kiev, saying it fuels further escalation and leads to more bloodshed rather than a negotiated settlement.

Zelensky Calls For Western Allies To Seek 'Regime Change' In Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has publicly called for Western-supported regime change in Russia, arguing it is the only way to ensure long-term security against "Russian aggression."

He further claimed that if there's not change of government in Moscow, then all of Europe is under threat. The provocative words were issued during a virtual speech marking the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act, or Helsinki Accords.

"If the world doesn’t aim to change the regime in Russia, that means even after the war ends, Moscow will still try to destabilize neighboring countries," Zelensky said, claiming that this will be the case even if Russia is compelled to end the war through a ceasefire.

He also urged the Western allies to seize and not just freeze Russian assets and use them to help defend against Russian forces, through more arms purchases and defense funding.

This comes after one of the single deadliest Russian strikes on Kiev early Thursday morning, which demolished an apartment building, and left at least 28 dead and over 120 wounded.

In response, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov once again reiterated that Russia has not threatened the EU and instead accused the bloc of drifting toward what he called a "fourth Reich".

The Kremlin has consistently rejected Western assumptions that its war aims in Ukraine are 'expansionist' in nature, or that nearby NATO states will be invaded.

On the negotiations front, there's been no momentum whatsoever, and even behind-the-scenes efforts of the White House to engage top Russian officials have proven fruitless. President Trump has been turning back toward strongly supporting Ukraine of late.

Russia has signaled willingness to negotiate and has participated in various talks; however it refuses to recognize Zelensky as a legitimate head of state, citing the expiration of his term using the excuse of martial law.

Tech giant Palantir secured a ten-year, $10 billion contact with the U.S. Army to manage its databases and aid in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its systems, the branch announced Thursday.

The deal, which rolls 75 other contracts into one, charges Palantir with streamlining the service branch’s databases, according to the Army’s announcement. The tech giant was founded by entrepreneur Peter Thiel on the heels of the September 11 attacks, and the firm has made multiple moves to cooperate with the Trump administration on initiatives including tracking illegal migrants for arrests in real time.

“This Enterprise Agreement represents a pivotal step in the Army’s commitment to modernizing our capabilities while being fiscally responsible,” Leo Garciga, the Army’s Chief Information Officer, said in the announcement. “By streamlining our procurement processes and leveraging enterprise-level discounts, we are not only enhancing our operational effectiveness but also maximizing our buying power.”

Palantir is the subject of critiques on both sides of the political aisle due to its reported sweeping data collection on millions of Americans. However, Palantir denied that the company was conducting unwarranted surveillance on U.S. citizens.

“To be very clear: Palantir is not building a master database, and Palantir is neither conducting nor enabling mass surveillance of American citizens,” the company said in response to concerns over their alleged data collection.

The company’s secretive reputation comes in part from its extensive, often behind-the-scenes work in areas such as national security and crime management.

Left-wing activists have slammed the company’s work in aiding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations, a partnership which stretches back to 2011 under former President Barack Obama, according to contract award data. Palantir has worked with the Pentagon in the past, partnering with the U.S. Navy as far back as 2007, according to contract data. The company has also worked with U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and the U.S. Air Force.

“The Army remains committed to rigorously assessing contract requirements and driving robust competition, ensuring that innovative solutions and exceptional value are consistently delivered for both the government and the American taxpayer,” the announcement concluded.

France Suspends Palestinian Refugee Programme After Discovering it Admitted an Anti-Semite

France said Friday it would suspend a programme receiving Palestinians from conflict-torn Gaza until an investigation into how a student accused of sharing antisemitic posts was allowed into the country was concluded.

The move comes after officials said the female student from Gaza would have to leave France after the Sciences Po university in the northern city of Lille revoked her accreditation over the online posts.

“No evacuation of any kind will take place until we have drawn conclusions from this investigation,” Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot told Franceinfo radio.

All Gazans who have entered France will undergo a second screening, he added.

The foreign ministry told AFP it could not disclose how many people would be affected by the policy change, citing confidentiality concerns.

France has helped more than 500 people leave Gaza since the latest war between Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel started, including wounded children, journalists, students and artists.

The conflict, triggered by Hamas’s murderous October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, has seen Israel retaliate with a deadly military campaign and an aid blockade in Gaza that some rights groups have qualified as “genocide”.

“France cannot suspend its policy of welcoming evacuated Gazans: our common humanity is at stake,” said Arthur Delaporte, spokesman for the opposition Socialist Party, on X.

Lille’s general prosecutor said Thursday that a judicial probe has been opened against the student for allegedly trying to “justify terrorism” and “justify a crime against humanity”.

Man Arrested After Suspected Mass Poisoning of Children at Christian Summer Camp

Eight children were taken to a hospital and a “critical incident” declared by police after a report was made of an alleged mass poisoning at a Christian rural retreat in Leicestershire.

A 76-year-old man was arrested by Leicestershire Police on Monday and is being question by detectives on suspicion of “administering poison/a noxious thing with intent to injure/aggrieve/annoy” after children fell ill at a summer camp.

Ten ambulances and an air ambulance helicopter responded to Stathern Lodge, near the village of Plungar in Leicestershire on Monday and ultimately removed eight children to hospital. All eight children were subsequently discharged.

Assistant Chief Constable James Avery said: “Officers have been in contact with the parents and guardians of those children taken to hospital. “I can confirm that a 76-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of administering poison or a noxious substance.

He remains in custody at this time. The investigation is now being led by the East Midlands Specialist Operations Unit major investigation team. This will allow a full and thorough investigation to take place… This is a complex and sensitive investigation, and we do understand the concern that it caused”.

The rural facility is owned by the Braithwaite Gospel Trust and was rented to another group for a youth summer camp, they said.

The alleged poisoning was first reported to the emergency services by a “third party” on Sunday 27th but the emergency services didn’t arrive at the Lodge until the following day, Monday 28th. Because of the delay in responding to what was later declared a “critical incident”, with the village hall turned over to emergency triage for victims, police have referred themselves to Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for an investigation into potential failings.

The Daily Telegraph cited Plungar village locals who said of the incident: “It’s a terrible thing to happen, and like something from a horror story. These kids from underprivileged backgrounds are treated to lovely holidays in the countryside , as an escape from their tough lives, and then are poisoned, allegedly by someone they trusted”. Another told the paper: “I saw a few children in tears as they walked into the hall. It’s like every parent’s worst nightmare, dropping your child at summer camp and then being told they might have been poisoned.”

Ex-NBA All-Star and Suspected Israeli Gangster Busted by Feds, Facing Prison Time

Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas was arrested Wednesday on charges of helping run an illegal gambling ring, according to federal officials.

Arenas, 43, is accused of hosting high-stakes poker games at a mansion he owned in Encino, California.

He faces three federal charges: conspiracy to operate an illegal gambling business, operating an illegal gambling business, and lying to federal investigators.

Arenas appeared in court in Los Angeles and pleaded not guilty, ESPN reported.

He was released on a $50,000 bond. His trial is scheduled for Sept. 23.

“At this point in the case, he is presumed innocent, right?” his lawyer Jerome Friedberg told reporters. “He has the same right as any other citizen to that presumption.”

Five other men were also arrested in the case, including a suspected Israeli mobster.

Federal agents say Yevgeni Gershman, 49, helped run the illegal business with Arenas. The Justice Department described Gershman as “a suspected organized crime figure from Israel.”

Gershman is also accused of entering a fake marriage to stay in the U.S.

The indictment said the poker games ran from September 2021 to July 2022. Arenas allegedly rented out his mansion to host the games.

One of his associates staged the house for gambling and collected rent from the people running the games.

Federal officials said the group took a “rake,” or fee, from every hand played.

They also hired women to serve drinks, give massages, and keep players company.

Those women were required to give a cut of their tips to the house. The games also had chefs, valets, and armed guards on site, according to the Justice Department statement.

Most people hear ‘modern slavery’ and picture trafficking victims or sweatshop workers—suffering that’s clearly visible, obviously wrong, and comfortably distant from their daily lives. What if the most effective slavery in history isn’t hidden—but public, celebrated, and defended by the very people it enslaves?

I understand that comparing contemporary life to slavery will make some readers uncomfortable. That discomfort is the point. We’ve been conditioned to reserve the word ‘slavery’ for its most extreme historical forms, but slavery is fundamentally about the extraction of labor through coercion—regardless of whether that coercion is applied with whips or withholding.

To be clear: I’m not minimizing the horrific brutality of historical slavery or the ongoing horrors of contemporary trafficking. Chattel slavery involved unimaginable physical cruelty, family separation, and dehumanization that scarred generations. The whip, the auction block, the chain—these were instruments of terror that reduced human beings to property through violence and degradation.

I recognize that freedom and slavery exist on a spectrum. Between the plantation owner’s whip and complete autonomy lies a range of arrangements—serfdom, indentured servitude, debt bondage, and various forms of regulated participation in society. Most people would place our current system somewhere in the middle of this spectrum, arguing we have enough choices and protections to avoid the ‘slavery’ label.

But consider where we actually fall: When you cannot keep the majority of your labor, cannot opt out without facing state violence, cannot choose how your extracted labor is used, and face increasing surveillance and restriction of movement—how far from the slavery end of the spectrum are we really? The question isn’t whether we’re chattel slaves, but whether we’re close enough to that end to warrant the comparison.

I use ‘slavery’ not to minimize historical suffering, but to cut through the comfortable language that obscures the actual relationship. Terms like ‘social contract’ and ‘civic duty’ prevent us from examining what’s really happening. Sometimes the most uncomfortable comparisons reveal the most important truths.

This isn’t about personal hardship or material deprivation. Many people living under this system—myself included—enjoy comforts that would have amazed historical royalty. The sophistication of modern control lies precisely in maintaining compliance through comfort rather than suffering. A golden cage is still a cage, and a comfortable slave is still a slave.

What if the most effective slavery in history makes its subjects grateful for their subjugation?

America's two-tiered justice system is beyond parody.

Florida State University is investigating a case of "antisemitic harassment" captured in a viral video that hours later would draw the attention of the U.S. attorney general.

In a short video clip, shared by a group that fights antisemitism, a woman is seen flicking off and yelling at a man sitting inside what appears to be the Leach Student Recreation Center. She approaches the man who is wearing an Israel Defense Forces shirt as he's filming her and begins yelling.

"[Expletive] Israel, free Palestine," the student says as she appears to bump the man or bat the phone away. "Put it on [expletive] Barstool FSU, I really don't give a [expletive]. You're an ignorant [expletive] son of a [expletive]."

All the video shows is she appears to have mildly swiped at his phone.

It was not clear what occurred or what was said before the 8-second video was filmed.

The group, Stop Anti-Semitism, flagged FSU President Richard McCullough on the social media post saying the "assault warrants immediate expulsion."

FSU responded within 10 minutes saying the university "strongly condemns antisemitism in all forms" and follows states laws that protect Jewish students and employees from "discrimination motivated by antisemitism, harassment, intimidation and violence."

FSU spokesperson Amy Farnum Patronis told the Tallahassee Democrat this incident will be subject to the normal process for incidents such as these. The police will investigate first, then the university's Student Conduct and Community Standards department will take action based on the investigation's results.

According to the university's student code of conduct, punishments can be anything from a written reprimand to expulsion.

Just to remind everyone, Pam Bondi (and Pres. Trump) said nothing about the stabbing death of Austin Metcalf but this Jewish student being shoved is being turned into an international incident.

Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) revealed that four major banks flagged over $1.5 billion in suspicious transactions linked to Epstein. DOJ Official Who OK'd $2M Payouts To Russia Hoax Lovers Now Running Anti-Trump Lawfare Group

The Biden Justice Department official who greenlit $2 million in taxpayer-funded payouts to disgraced FBI lovebirds Peter Strzok and Lisa Page has resurfaced at the helm of a Democrat-aligned group dedicated to suing Donald Trump into oblivion, records show.

According to documents obtained by The Federalist, Brian Netter, a former Deputy Assistant Attorney General under Merrick Garland, personally approved the eye-popping settlements. Strzok, who infamously plotted the “insurance policy” against Trump while investigating the Clinton campaign’s Russia collusion hoax, pocketed $1.2 million. His mistress, ex-FBI lawyer Page, scored $800,000 [reeee sexist bribe gap!].

The duo had sued the DOJ, whining that the release of their scandalous, government-resource–written texts violated their privacy. Instead of fighting, the Biden team cut them fat checks - at taxpayer expense.

Now, Netter has taken his talents to Democracy Forward, where he serves as legal director. The left-wing group, proudly launched in 2017 to fight Trump with endless litigation, brags about taking the 45th president to court more than 100 times. The New York Times even hailed them last fall: “Liberal Legal Group Positions Itself as a Top Trump Administration Foe.”

The group’s board reads like a Who’s Who of Democratic Party royalty: Clinton campaign manager John Podesta, Biden’s ex–chief of staff Ron Klain, Vice President Kamala Harris’ sister Maya Harris, and Democratic strategist Mindy Myers. We're sure Podesta is dazzling them with his famous walnut sauce on pasta and whatnot.

At the top sits Marc Elias, the Democratic super-lawyer notorious for bankrolling the Clinton campaign’s Russia collusion scheme through his law firm and masterminding the chaotic 2020 mail-in ballot expansion. Clinton’s campaign was fined just $113,000 for disguising opposition research as “legal services.”

Netter’s ties to Democratic power brokers run even deeper. He’s married to Karen Dunn, a high-powered Democratic lawyer who prepped Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Kamala Harris for presidential debates. The 2009 wedding? Officiated by none other than Merrick Garland.

Child rapist to be given window of freedom due to legal loophole

A child rapist will be set free from prison in South Australia next week, with a legal loophole preventing authorities from detaining him before he is sentenced for another crime.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will walk free from Mount Gambier prison on Monday, against the wishes of multiple authorities, when his five-year sentence for abusing a young girl ends.

But the following day, he's due in a Canberra court to be sentenced for the interstate abuse of Mike Worsman, who was just 12 years old when he was violently and repeatedly raped, in the 1990s.

"The monster that offended against me, we later found out had offended against other people," Worsman told 9News.

He and ACT prosecutors have fought for the offender to be securely extradited to the hearing for his next round of justice, but instead he'll first be set free and trusted to make his own way across the border.

"In between where he is in jail now and likely where he'll end up in jail again, he's just allowed to run around in the community for 24-48 hours," Worsman said.

ACT prosecutors have asked the territory's chief justice to block the man's release, but she said she had no powers to do so.

"Why are we OK with loopholes in the law that allow violent serial rapists to be free?" Worsman said

"He could offend against other children. He's a massive flight risk. He's incredibly intelligent… he could disappear quite easily."

The South Australian government has also failed to keep the man in custody.

It says officials are working with the ACT and the Australian Federal Police to manage the man's release.

That won't provide any help for Worsman, whose birthday will coincide with the day of his abuser's release.

"Someone doesn't want to have be talking about historic rape cases but if it keeps a kid safe… that's my community service as a parent," he said.

Israel Has Killed 20.7% of Gaza's Population. That's 434,000 People

Most informed observers know that the actual death count in Gaza due to Israel's attacks on the territory is far worse than the large media outlets are reporting. Last February, my colleague Coll McCail — an astute college student in Glasgow — worked out a basic mathematical calculation that the corporate media refuses to do. The result of this calculation back then was chilling; now it is much worse.

Here is the latest data, updated as of yesterday (July 21): based on a statistical model developed by a prestigious medical journal called The Lancet, Israel has killed roughly 434,800 people in Gaza since the country's military started to attack the territory on 8 October 2023. That's 20.7% of Gaza's entire pre-conflict population dead. Over half are women and children.

If the same level of killing and indirect death that took place in Gaza during the 594 days of the conflict happened in the United States proportional to population, roughly 70 million Americans would have been killed.

I repeat: It is likely that the number of deaths in Gaza is the rough equivalent of 70 million Americans in proportion to current population. That's the equivalent of every person in the 28 least populous states in the United States. Or roughly every person in the entire states of California and New York.

In February of this year, I wrote that roughly 306,000 Palestinians had been killed by Israel directly or indirectly - the latter a result of starvation, disease and lack of access to health care - since 7 October 2023. (The UN recently declared Gaza the "hungriest place on Earth" and its mission to deliver aid into Gaza as "one of the most obstructed" in recent history.)

My colleague Coll extrapolated from the model on a piece of scrap paper. The data he used is freely available in the public domain. It is a clear dereliction of journalistic duty that The New York Times and other US-based outlets have not bothered to compile such estimates.

The failure of these institutions enables Israel's blatant violations of international law. It also shields the American people from knowing the full extent of the Netanyahu regime's brutality.

The refusal of corporate media outlets in the US and elsewhere to report on how Israel has transformed the entirety of Gaza into a mass killing field is a moral and institutional failure. It also allows the architects and perpetrators of this industrial-scale violence — including Netanyahu and his ministers — a short-term escape hatch from full accountability. We must work to ensure that escape hatch is sealed shut.
