Get some rock so on place on bottom of 5 gallon bucket then get some sand and put charcoal on top layer with coffee or metal filters and then… place sand make about 5 layers adding maybe cotton balls so on in between smashed so on. This will then effectively make a filter for water pour bucket of water into the bucker with punched holes on bottom. This should filter the water to a large extent safe to drink as well as take out some discoloration ok
