US fighter jets deploy flares to chase suspicious plane away from Trump golf club

NORAD has reported five separate incursions into restricted airspace over Bedminster over the weekend

US fighter jets were scrambled on Sunday to intercept a civilian aircraft that violated restricted airspace over President Donald Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, marking the fifth unauthorized incursion into the area over the weekend, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).

The incident occurred around 12:50pm local time, when the general aviation aircraft entered a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) zone established due to Trump’s presence in the area. NORAD deployed military jets to escort the plane, using flares to alert the pilot and ensure its safe removal from the zone.

“The flares – which may have been visible to the public – are employed with the highest regard for the safety of the intercepted aircraft and people on the ground,” NORAD said in a statement on Sunday. “This intercept was preceded by one separate TFR violation earlier in the day, bringing the total to five unauthorized incursions over the course of the weekend.

The command noted that the flares are designed to burn out quickly and pose no danger to people on the ground. The aircraft was safely escorted out of the area without further incident.

NORAD issued a renewed warning to general aviation pilots to check all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Notices to Air Missions (NOTAMs) before departure. “Adhering to FAA restricted airspace protocols is mandatory, regardless of geographical region, airframe, or aircrew,” the statement added.

NORAD operates a layered air defense network of radars, satellites, and fighter jets across North America to detect and respond to unauthorized aircraft incursions.

Sunday’s flare deployment follows a similar incident last month, when an F-16 fighter jet intercepted a civilian plane over Bedminster and performed a standard “headbutt” maneuver to redirect the aircraft. That day also saw five separate TFR violations.

Trump has frequently stayed at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster since returning to the White House in January. Temporary flight restrictions are routinely activated in the area during his visits, and any violations may lead to fines, interrogation, or suspension of pilot licenses

Secret Service Denies Renewal of Ex-SS Director Kimberly Cheatle’s Security Clearance

The Secret Service stopped the renewal of former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle’s security clearance, a year after she resigned in July 2024 after facing criticism from lawmakers regarding the agency failing to prevent an attempted assassination on former President Donald Trump.

Secret Service Director Sean Curran, serving under the Trump administration, reportedly decided that “not all former directors” should be able to have their security clearances renewed, the agency told RealClearPolitics (RCP) in a statement.

The decision to not renew Cheatle’s security clearance comes as Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) has “argued that Cheatle should not have her security clearance renewed,” in the aftermath of the agency’s failures on July 13, 2024 during Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in which shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire.

Johnson told the outlet that he saw “no reason for her security clearance to be instated.”

“Following the security debacle in Butler, the former director of USSS made the right decision to resign,” Johnson said.

As Breitbart News previously reported, Cheatle resigned “a day after a bruising congressional hearing where she was unable or unwilling to answer many key questions.”

“I take full responsibility for the security lapse,” she wrote in an email to staff obtained by the Associated Press. “In light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to step down as your director.”

Cheatle previously admitted in an interview with ABC News after the assassination attempt on Trump that agents had not been put on the roof that Crooks had been on, due to the “safety factor” of having agents on a “sloped roof.”

Loni Anderson, Beloved Actress and Star of Hit TV Series ‘WKRP in Cincinnati,’ Has Died

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Loni Anderson, who played a struggling radio station’s empowered receptionist on the hit TV comedy “WKRP in Cincinnati,” died Sunday, just days before her 80th birthday.

Anderson died at a Los Angeles hospital following a “prolonged” illness, said her longtime publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother,” Anderson’s family said in a statement.

“WKRP in Cincinnati” aired from 1978 to 1982 and was set in a flagging Ohio radio station trying to reinvent itself with rock music. The cast included Gary Sandy, Tim Reid, Howard Hesseman, Frank Bonner and Jan Smithers, alongside Anderson as the sexy and smart Jennifer Marlowe.

As the station’s receptionist, the blonde and high-heeled Jennifer used her sex appeal to deflect unwanted business calls for her boss, Mr. Carlson. Her efficiency often kept the station running in the face of others’ incompetence.

The role earned Anderson two Emmy Award nominations and three Golden Globe nominations.

Anderson starred on the big screen alongside Burt Reynolds in the 1983 comedy “Stroker Ace” and the two later married and became tabloid fixtures before their messy breakup in 1994.

Their son, Quinton Reynolds, was “the best decision that we ever made in our entire relationship,” she said during the unveiling of a bronze bust at Reynolds’ Hollywood grave site in 2021.

“I think back to the beginning of our relationship, it was so, oh, gosh, tabloidy. We were just a spectacle all the time. And it was hard to have a relationship in that atmosphere. And somehow, we did it through many ups and downs,” Anderson told The Associated Press.

Anderson detailed their tumultuous marriage in the 1995 autobiography, “My Life in High Heels,” which she said was about “the growth of a woman, a woman who survives.”

“I think if you’re going to write about yourself, you have to do it warts and all,” Anderson told the AP while promoting the book. “You may not even tell the nicest things about yourself, because you’re telling the truth.”

She married four times, most recently to Bob Flick in 2008.

Anderson was born Aug. 5, 1945, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Her father was an environmental chemist, and her mother was a model.

Her first role as an actress was a small part in the 1966 film “Nevada Smith,” starring Steve McQueen. Most of her career was spent on the small screen with early guest parts in the 1970s on “S.W.A.T.” and “Police Woman.” After “WKRP,” Anderson starred in the short-lived comedy series “Easy Street” and appeared in made-for-TV movies including “A Letter to Three Wives” and “White Hot: The Mysterious Murder of Thelma Todd.”

In 2023 she co-starred in Lifetime’s “Ladies Of The 80s: A Divas Christmas” with Linda Gray, Donna Mills, Morgan Fairchild and Nicollette Sheridan.

“I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of the wonderful Loni Anderson!” Fairchild wrote on X. “The sweetest, most gracious lady! I’m just devastated to hear this.”

Anderson is survived by Flick, her daughter Deidra and son-in law Charlie Hoffman, son Quinton Anderson Reynolds, grandchildren McKenzie and Megan Hoffman, stepson Adam Flick and wife Helene, and step-grandchildren Felix and Maximilian.

A private family service is planned at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Kagan said
