Yury Ushakov has praised talks between President Vladimir Putin and US special envoy Steve Witkoff as “constructive”

Russia has received an “acceptable” offer from the US on settling the Ukraine conflict, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov has said, following a visit by US special envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Ushakov commented on the talks between Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin, noting that Moscow had received a “proposal from the Americans” which it is ready to consider, without providing further details.

Ushakov also noted that Russia and the US have topics to discuss, while agreeing with the view of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who earlier described the talks as “a good day.” Rubio had added that “we still have a ways to go, but we’re certainly closer [to peace] today than we were yesterday – when we weren’t close at all.”

The Kremlin aide earlier called the Putin-Witkoff meeting “business-like and constructive,” adding that “Russian-American ties could develop according to a completely different, mutually beneficial scenario,” as compared to the long-running tensions over Ukraine.

He also revealed that Putin could meet Trump as soon as next week. The Russian president later suggested that the United Arab Emirates could potentially host the summit.

Zelensky Says 'It's Time To End The War' - But Won't Identify Any Concessions

Given the rapid movement on a Trump-Putin face to face meeting, to be held within the 'coming days' - according to both sides, Volodymyr Zelensky is speaking up, and seeking to ensure Ukraine's position isn't sidelined.

Apparently Washington during Steve Witkoff's visit to Moscow Wednesday pushed the idea of a trilateral meeting involving Trump mediating between Zelensky and Putin, but this has been firmly rejected by Moscow. Instead Russia is taking the reputational and diplomatic 'win' of a bilateral Trump-Putin meeting, which would be a huge first of the war and a first of Trump's second term in office.

Russia's Putin stipulated Thursday that "conditions" for a potential future meeting with Zelensky had not been met.

"I have nothing against it in general, it is possible, but certain conditions must be created for this. But unfortunately, we are still far from creating such conditions," Putin told reporters.

These conditions without doubt center on territorial concessions, and things like sovereignty on Crimea. Additionally, Russia's position is that Zelensky is in power illegally, long past his mandate after canceling elections.

Putin's remarks on a Zelensky meeting were in response to the Ukrainian leader saying he's open to such a sit-down.

In a Thursday Telegram post, Zelensky said he had spoken with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to discuss ending the conflict in what he called "a dignified peace” that would "determine the security conditions for Europe for decades."

"Ukraine is not afraid of meetings and expects the same bold approach from the Russian side. It is time to end the war," he said, using words which Trump has also repeatedly proclaimed.

Putin earlier this summer made clear he's willing to meet Zelensky, but only during a "final phase" of negotiations.

New Study Raises Concerns Over Universal Basic Income Plans

In my forthcoming book, Rage and the Republic: The Unfinished Story of the American Revolution, I explore how the American republic can survive in the 21st Century given unprecedented economic, technological, and political changes. The book addresses the increasing calls for a universal basic income (UBI). Various Democratic cities are already implementing UBI systems. Now, a new study finds (as did some prior studies) that UBI systems have not achieved significant improvements and may actually have some negative consequences for recipients.

A working paper with the National Bureau of Economic Research shows that UBI recipients did indeed spend more money, including a 13 percent increase on child-related expenses. There was also a slight increase in parental supervision of children.

However, there was no improved school performance and a slight increase in reported developmental and stress-related problems with children.

Stanford’s Basic Income Lab is tracking more than 160 UBI projects in the U.S..

So far, the results are at best mixed. One study in Compton showed that many recipients of the $500 monthly payment quit working part-time jobs.

Likewise, reports indicate that “a $400 monthly payment in Chelsea, Massachusetts, increased food spending and did not measurably reduce work, but it failed to produce results for the research team’s “primary downstream outcomes”—namely self-reported health and child school attendance.”

This follows earlier reports about the OpenResearch Unconditional Income Study (ORUS), an experiment in which lower-income Americans were given $1,000 a month for three years. The result was a reduction in work and an increase in leisure activities. There was also an increase in spending on health care but not an increase in health outcomes.

It is still early in studying these outcomes but these programs are not showing the downstream benefits predicted by some. Indeed, they may be impacting work hours negatively for recipients in some areas.

As various cities like New York move toward socialist candidates and programs, these studies offer a cautionary tale as officials push UBI payments.

President Donald J. Trump’s Truth Social has launched Truth Search AI, a new search feature powered by the artificial intelligence (AI) startup Perplexity. The feature is currently available on the web version of Truth Social, with public testing for iOS and Android apps expected “in the near future.” Interestingly, initial testing of the feature shows that it consistently directs users to conservative media outlets such as Fox News and Fox Business. Both news networks are owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who Trump is currently suing over the publication of an alleged 2023 birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein by another Murdoch-owned media property, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The National Pulse reported on Wednesday that the WSJ‘s Trump-Epstein story is already one of its most-read in recent history. When the story was published last month, President Trump dismissed the letter as “fake” and filed a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the WSJ, its parent company, News Corp, owner Rupert Murdoch, and the reporters involved.

However, the media mogul’s attorneys have moved to dismiss the case, and Murdoch’s deposition has been delayed due to his declining health. The agreement postponing the deposition requires Murdoch’s attorneys to provide President Trump with regular updates on the media mogul’s health. If they fail to do so, the deposition—originally scheduled for later this month—will proceed.

Meanwhile, Truth Social CEO Devin Nunes described the AI feature as a significant addition to the “Patriot Economy.” He added, “We plan to robustly refine and expand our search function based on user feedback as we implement a wide range of additional enhancements to the platform.” For now, the tool is labeled as being in beta testing.

ISIS Soldiers Storm Christian Vigil, Behead Several People

ISIS-aligned fighters reportedly beheaded at least nine Christians and razed churches across northern Mozambique in July, forcing more than 46,000 people — nearly 60% of them children — to flee.

The spasm of violence in Cabo Delgado province was trumpeted in 20 propaganda photos released this week by the Islamic State Mozambique Province, which showed jihadists burning a church, looting homes and displaying severed heads, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI). MEMRI said the same cell boasted of four raids between July 20 and 28 that left Christian villages “deserted and in flames.”

“What we see in Africa today is a kind of silent genocide or silent, brutal, savage war that is occurring in the shadows and all too often ignored by the international community,” MEMRI vice president and former U.S. diplomat Alberto Miguel Fernandez told Fox News Digital on Thursday.

Fernandez warned that Islamic State offshoots now threaten to “take over … several countries” as they push beyond remote safe havens. His institute also tracked a July 27 assault in Komanda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, where Islamic State Central Africa Province gunmen opened fire on a Catholic church and torched dozens of buildings, killing at least 45 people, according to the outlet.

As Foreign Secretary, Lammy has the ‘grace and favour’ country house Chevening, a major 17th century house in Kent. Under the terms of it being made a gift to the nation by a childless Earl, the government can nominate any government minister to have use of the house during their time in office, but by convention it has generally fallen to the Foreign Secretary. The Prime Minister has his own official country home, Chequers.

If the government of the day finds it does not need the house, it can also be granted to a member of the Royal Family and then in order, the Canadian High Commissioner, the U.S. Ambassador, and then the national trust, a charity that opens historic buildings to the public.

Like President Trump, who had a working holiday to the UK last month, JD Vance has strong British heritage, and has previously described himself as “a Scots-Irish hillbilly at heart”. The Guardian noted in their report when it emerged the Vance family had rented a substantial property in the Cotswolds for their August holiday that the area had become “an increasingly popular choice for wealthy tourists”.

The Cotswolds was chosen by Ellen DeGeneres for her self-imposed exile from the United States last year.

Sweden Walks Back Israel Stance, Admits Hamas at Fault for War

Amid a flood of internal criticism, the centre-right government in Sweden appears to be backtracking on its “one-sided” stance towards Israel, potentially including its calls to cut off EU trade.

Last week, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced that Stockholm wanted a suspension of the trade agreement between the European Union and Israel over supposed failures in “fulfilling its most basic obligations” around humanitarian aid in Gaza.

Members of all three governing coalition parties were quick to criticise the stance, which many argued failed to recognise that Hamas was to blame for the start of the war with the October 7th terror attacks and therefore bears the primary responsibility for the suffering of the inhabitants of Gaza.

Coalition partner and leader of the right-wing populist Sweden Democrats (SD), Jimmie Åkesson, wrote in the Expressen newspaper that pushing to freeze trade with Israel “is not only economically and diplomatically harmful – it is morally wrong and politically short-sighted.”

Åkesson went on to say that if his party had known that the government would have been “so erratic and weak in Middle Eastern politics,” it would have pushed for foreign policy guarantees in the coalition agreement that saw his party join the government in 2022.

Israel’s ambassador to Stockholm, Ziv Nevo Kulman, thanked Åkesson for his “important contribution that clarifies the reality – that so many others quietly support.” This marked a notable shift from Jerusalem towards the SD, which had previously refused to have any contact with the populist party for being too “far-right”.

In Israel’s largest gas deal, Leviathan partners ink $35 billion export deal with Egypt

Deal will almost triple the annual amount of natural gas supplied from the Leviathan offshore field to Egypt, and boost state revenue from royalties

Partners in Israel’s Leviathan reservoir on Thursday inked a $35 billion deal to supply natural gas to Egypt, in the largest export deal in the country’s history.

Israel’s NewMed Energy, formerly Delek Drilling (part of Yitzhak Tshuva’s Delek Group), which owns a 45.3 percent stake in Leviathan, off the country’s Mediterranean coast, said the partners will sell a total of 130 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas to Egypt through 2040, or until all of the contract quantities are fulfilled.

The deal is expected to funnel hundreds of millions of shekels in revenues from gas royalties and taxes to the country’s state coffers.

“This is the most strategically important export deal to ever occur in the eastern Mediterranean, and strengthens Egypt’s position as the most significant hub in the region,” said NewMed CEO Yossi Abu. “This deal, made possible by our strong regional partnerships, will unlock further regional export opportunities, once again proving that natural gas and the wider energy industry can be an anchor for collaboration.”

Natural gas from Leviathan, one of the world’s largest deep-water gas discoveries, started to flow to the Israeli domestic market in December 2019. The partners in the Leviathan reservoir began exporting natural gas to Egypt in January 2020 after signing a deal for 60 bcm, which is expected to be supplied by the early 2030s. To date, Leviathan has supplied 23.5 bcm of gas to the Egyptian market.

Layoffs soar 140% as the unspoken job threat gathers steam

Layoffs have risen 140 percent from a year ago, a new report reveals.

Companies have already announced more than 800,000 job cuts this year alone, the highest since the pandemic upended the economy in 2020.

US-based employers cut 62,075 jobs in July compared to 25,885 in the same month last year.

The damning figures represent a 29 percent leap from the month before where 47,999 people lost their livelihood, according to a report from career advice firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

Some companies — such as Procter & Gamble — have been more elusive about the reasons behind mass cuts, blaming it on restructuring, 'automation and digitization.'

However, Challenger, Gray & Christmas analysts found that the biggest impact on job losses this year was the relentless march of AI and the knock-on effects of Trump's tariff policies.

'AI was cited for over 10,000 cuts last month, and tariff concerns have impacted nearly 6,000 jobs this year,' report author and labor expert Andrew Challenger said.

Most jobs have been cut in the tech industry, where 89,251 have been cut in the first seven months of the year.

New York City preparing for outbreak of SECOND 'highly contagious' virus… as cases spread to neighboring states

New York is gearing up for an outbreak of another highly contagious virus, as the number of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) cases spike across the eastern US.

As New York City is currently grappling with a Legionnaires' outbreak that has infected 67 people and killed three, doctors in the borough of Staten Island are also raising concern over an uptick in HFMD.

A handful of cases have already been reported and there's been reports of increasing cases in multiple states, including Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Ohio, Kansas, and West Virginia.

HFMD is a viral disease that can lead to painful lesions forming on the hands, mouth and feet as well as fever and a sore throat.

It usually affects children under age 10 with the immune systems of adults typically strong enough to prevent the virus from infecting them. HFMD outbreaks most commonly occur at nurseries and schools, but immunocompromised adults are at risk, too.

The CDC does not track cases of the virus so there is little data available on case numbers.

However, Dr Edith Bracho-Sanchez, a pediatrician at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York, revealed she has seen more cases of HFMD in the past few weeks than she has over the past decade.

And Dr Natasha Burgert, a Kansas-based pediatrician and national spokeswoman for the American Academy of Pediatrics, said she has seen the same trend.

Head of US-based pro-Israel group acknowledges Israel breaking genocide convention in Gaza

'This government and these leaders will be remembered with revulsion for the horrors they’ve overseen,' says J Street president

The president of J Street, a US-based pro-Israel advocacy group, has acknowledged that Israel has broken the international genocide convention in the Gaza Strip.

"I have … been persuaded rationally by legal and scholarly arguments that international courts will one day find that Israel has broken the international genocide convention," Jeremy Ben-Ami wrote Sunday in a blog post.

Ben-Ami described the realization as deeply personal, asking: "How can it be that Israel – the state founded by a people who experienced genocide – could itself be committing this most heinous of crimes?"

He said for some in the Jewish community it is "inconceivable," and an "outrage" to even raise the question.

He cited specific Israeli practices, including denying food and necessities of life to civilians, soldiers shooting at civilians trying to get food and the destruction of the entire infrastructure of Gaza as actions with no justification.

He said Israel is "forcing the population into intolerably small areas" and "hoping to create the conditions under which an entire population will be forcibly displaced."

"Until now, I have tried to deflect and defend when challenged to call this genocide," said the president of one of the largest pro-Israel groups in Washington, acknowledging his previous stance.

Despite a personal reluctance to use “genocide” because of family history, he added: "I cannot and will not argue any more against those using the term. I simply won't defend the indefensible."

Ben-Ami believes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others in his government will be held accountable in the courts, and although the courts will only apply the law, they will be considered antisemitic by Jewish organizations.

"This government and these leaders will be remembered with revulsion for the horrors they’ve overseen," he wrote.

The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing more than 61,000 Palestinians, almost half of them women and children. Israel’s military campaign has devastated the enclave and brought it to the verge of famine.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.

No Matter Who Is President, Don’t Trust Government Data

President Trump caused a stir last Friday after he fired the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) hours after it released a weaker-than-expected jobs report. In a post on his social media site Truth Social, the president blamed the Biden-appointed BLS commissioner, Dr. Erika McEntarfer, for manipulating jobs numbers to prop up Democrats and make his administration look bad. He promised to appoint someone “much more competent and qualified.”

Many of his critics sought to frame the move as a childish yet dangerous attempt to brazenly warp reality to Trump’s liking. Even outlets that are generally sympathetic to most of the president’s domestic economic policies warned that the move represented the same kind of politically perilous denial of economic reality that doomed the Biden administration while also threatening to lower trust in the federal government’s economic data.

As they’ve done earlier in the wake of Trump attacks on the federal judiciary and Federal Reserve, establishment “experts” rushed to reassure the public about the “independence” and “nonpolitical” nature of the BLS and the federal data collection apparatus more broadly. An effort was made to portray these federal data collectors as rigorous statisticians obsessed only with the truth and to assure readers that there is no evidence for the kind of brazen data editing that Trump suggested was taking place in his Truth Social post.

But while Trump’s assertion of BLS data manipulation was characteristically imprecise, there’s no question that the political establishment has been concealing, spinning, and even outright manipulating government economic data for its own benefit.

There isn’t clear, undeniable evidence that officials at the BLS are editing or making up the jobs numbers that go out to the public. But it’s easy to see why people think that they are when you look back at the series of dramatic downward revisions the Bureau has made in recent years—especially during Biden’s presidency.

The monthly jobs report is a recurring, previously scheduled drop that all major media outlets publish immediately. And whenever the headline number is dramatically large or at all higher than expectations, White House officials are quick to seize on the news to frame it as a consequence of their brilliant economic agenda. However, when these jobs figures consistently get revised at a later date—ostensibly due to new information—the revisions are rarely given the same level of attention by the media and are therefore only really noticed by the small subset of the population that is closely monitoring economic data.

Netanyahu discusses full military Gaza takeover with Israeli security cabinet

The Israeli Security Cabinet convened to discuss a plan for the full military occupation of the Gaza Strip, prompted by Hamas’s ongoing refusal to engage in negotiations over a hostage deal or show any flexibility.

The plan, proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and deliberated in the meeting, includes encircling Gaza City and relocating around one million residents to the southern part of the strip. Following this, a senior Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post that the military would “target the terrorist strongholds in the city,” with operations later expanding to the central refugee camps.

Israel, with support from the United States and additional international partners, intends to flood Gaza with humanitarian aid, up to four times the current volume. US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said the United States plans to open 16 humanitarian aid centers, modeled after those operated by the Global Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

The operation is expected to take at least six months. A senior official told The Post that Netanyahu is “determined that this is the only path to defeating Hamas.” In an interview with Fox News on Thursday, the Prime Minister stated: “We intend to militarily take over the entire Gaza Strip, dismantle Hamas, and transfer control to another authority.”

Regarding whether the Trump administration supports the move, a US official told The Post that “Israel is to decide what it needs to do for its own security.”

The prevailing assessment in Israel is that Hamas currently has no interest in a deal. However, several Cabinet ministers who spoke with The Post voiced concerns that if Hamas were to suddenly propose a framework for a hostage deal, military operations in Gaza could be halted.

“We demand that the operation to take over the Strip continue until completion, regardless of any proposal Hamas might make. Only by proving we are committed to full military action will Hamas be pressured into releasing the hostages,” one minister said.

On Thursday, Netanyahu held meetings with ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir. Meanwhile, President Isaac Herzog spoke with IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir to “express support” amid recent criticism claiming he has not been aggressive enough.

Zamir has voiced opposition to the full occupation plan, warning it could endanger the hostages. However, he also clarified that he would carry out any decision made by the Cabinet. “A culture of disagreement is an integral part of the Jewish people’s history, and it is a vital component of the IDF’s organizational culture, both internally and externally,” said Zamir on Thursday.

“We will continue to express our professional opinions without fear, objectively, independently, and with professionalism. That is also what we expect from our subordinates. This is where the responsibility lies, on this very table.”

Zamir emphasized that the overarching goal of the military campaign in Gaza is to “bring about the collapse of Hamas.”

To be sure, Barak may have occasionally enjoyed the attention of the young women in residence but that wasn’t the primary reason for his visits.

According to new documents revealed by WSJ, Epstein met at least three dozen times with Barak between 2013 and 2017 and they had appointments every month for 11 consecutive months starting in December 2015.

Lebanese Government Approves U.S. Plan To Disarm Hezbollah

The Lebanese government approved on August 7 a plan proposed by the United States that would ultimately lead to disarming Hezbollah by the end of the year.

The plan is based on a proposal made by U.S. envoy Thomas Barrack. The proposal includes a roadmap to fully disarm Hezbollah, in exchange for Israel halting its strikes on Lebanon and withdrawing its troops from the five posts it maintains in southern Lebanon.

In a press conference following the cabinet meeting, Information Minister Paul Morcos said that the government accepted the principles of the U.S. proposal, including “the gradual end of the presence of non-state armed groups in the country, including Hezbollah, both north and south of the Litani River,” but said that the full details of the plan were not discussed in depth.

The principles to which Lebanon agreed also include, according to the minister, “ensuring Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the cessation of all hostilities, including ground, aerial and maritime violations,” as well as the establishment of a permanent border between Israel and Lebanon and between Syria and Lebanon.

Hezbollah ministers and their Shi’ite allies walked out of the cabinet’s discussion, but this was not apparently enough to stop the rest from approving the plan.

Asked how Hezbollah’s disarmament would be carried out in light of the group’s refusal to cooperate, Morcos said that the decisions would be implemented in accordance with a plan to be submitted by the Lebanese Army by the end of August, which will include a timeline for disarmament by the end of the year.

A day earlier, the group warned the government against accepting the plan, calling it a “major mistake” that harms the country’s sovereignty.

From his side, Barrack hailed what he described as a “historic” decision by Lebanon in approving the U.S. plan.

In a post on X, Barrack congratulated Lebanese leaders “for making the historic, bold, and correct decision this week to begin fully implementing” the ceasefire deal. “This week’s Cabinet resolutions finally put into motion the ‘One Nation, One Army’ solution for Lebanon. We stand behind the Lebanese people.”

Limited pro-Hezbollah protests broke out in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, following the approval of the U.S. plan.

Israel Warns Hezbollah With Deadly Strikes

A violent wave of Israeli strikes targeted southern Lebanon, the heartland of Hezbollah, late on August 6, causing casualties.

Lebanon’s official National News Agency said that the surroundings of the towns of Deir Siryan and Zawtar, as well as the Litani River, the heights of Jabal al-Rayhan, and the Iqlim al-Tuffah region were targeted.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) later announced in a statement that the strikes targeted Hezbollah, including weapons depots, rocket launchers, and sites used to store construction vehicles that were used by the group to restore its infrastructure.

“The Hezbollah terror organization continues its attempts to restore terror infrastructure throughout Lebanon, while endangering Lebanese civilians and using them as human shields,” the IDF says, adding that the presence of weapons and Hezbollah’s activity in the area “constitutes a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.”

According to the Lebanese health ministry, the Israeli strikes killed a Syrian national and wounded at least two other people.

The United States brokered a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon last November, but the IDF refused to halt strikes on Hezbollah or to withdraw from five strategic posts in southern Lebanon.

The latest wave of strikes came just hours after Hezbollah slammed a plan presented by the Lebanese government meant to disarm it by the end of the year, calling it a “major mistake” that harms the country’s sovereignty.

Responding to the government’s plan, which was announced a day earlier, the group said in a statement that the move was a result of United States “diktats” and that it will treat the decision “as if it does not exist.”

The plan discussed by the government is based on a proposal made by U.S. envoy Thomas Barrack. The proposal includes a roadmap to fully disarm Hezbollah, in exchange for Israel halting its strikes on Lebanon and withdrawing its troops from the five posts.

Despite Hezbollah’s rejection, the government is expected to discuss the plan again on August 7, with Lebanese media reporting that modifications could be made.

The deadly Israeli strikes were clearly meant as a warning to Hezbollah. Still, the group, which has been showing great restraint, will not likely back down.

Earlier in the week, Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem warned that should Israel engage in a “large-scale aggression” against Lebanon, Hezbollah, Lebanon’s army and Lebanon’s people would defend themselves with missiles falling again on Israel.

White College Girl Arrested, Charged With Battery for Allegedly Touching Shoulder of Jewish Student in IDF Shirt

Former FSU employee Eden Deckerhoff, 23, was arrested and charged with battery after having a minor quarrel with a Jewish student wearing an IDF shirt last week wherein she allegedly touched his shoulder.

A former Florida State University employee has been charged in connection with a confrontation that occurred on FSU’s campus nearly a week ago. The incident was recorded, appearing to show antisemitic harassment on the university’s campus, and has garnered national attention since then.

Eden Deckerhoff, 23, was charged with battery in connection with the incident that transpired Wednesday, according to recent court records. She’s accused of confronting a student, who court records say was Jewish and was wearing a shirt representing the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) when the incident occurred, and making profane statements directed at Israel.

As of Tuesday, Deckerhoff has been released from jail, court documents show.

[…] The video showed a woman, later identified as Deckerhoff, and a man, later identified as a Florida State student, in frame. Court records identify Deckerhoff as a “current FSU employee,” but an FSU spokesperson clarified Tuesday that she is a former employee.

The footage went on to show Deckerhoff flipping off the student who appeared to be filming the video in the recreation center, per court records. She was also heard in the video making a statement laced with profanity aimed at Israel.

Court papers went on to say that the video also showed Deckerhoff appearing “to hit the male’s shoulder area while attempting to reach for his beverage on the table.” Just before the video concluded, the student was observed leaning back “in a defensive manner as if he was pushed by the female [Deckerhoff].”

Authorities were able to obtain additional surveillance footage and “investigative resources” detailing how the incident unfolded on Wednesday between Deckerhoff and the student.

At about 7 p.m. Wednesday, the 23-year-old suspect was seen approaching the student, who court papers say was sitting down in the recreational center and on his cell phone. Deckerhoff was then seen having a conversation with the student and appearing to “become upset,” per the documents.

Moments later, Deckerhoff was seen moving into his personal space and touching his shoulder “in a shoving motion while trying to attempt to reach for his beverage,” the documents wrote.

Shortly after, the student was observed “leaning back in a reactionary and defensive manner while lifting his left arm up to protect himself,” per court papers. Moments later, Deckerhoff was observed walking off just before flipping the student off.

Chinese Loitering Munitions Busted En Route To Houthis In Yemen

The Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) linked to Yemen’s international-recognized government announced on August 6 that it had seized a shipment of loitering munitions and drone components that was enroute to the Houthis (Ansar Allah).

In a statement, the service said that shipment was seized from a ship originally bound for the Houthi-controlled port of al-Hodeidah.

“The seizure came after the Counter-Terrorism Service received accurate intelligence indicating the presence of a number of suspicious containers on board the ship coming from China, which was headed to the port of Hodeidah. Due to the recent bombing of the port, the ship changed course to the container port dock in the free zone in Aden. Based on this information, the Service notified the Attorney General, Judge Qaher Mustafa, on August 2, 2025, who in turn directed the Specialized Criminal Prosecution and the Counter-Terrorism Service to take urgent legal action,” the statement reads.

The last Israeli attack on al-Hodeidah was on July 21. At the time, Israeli combat drones struck infrastructure at the port. It is possible that the strikes were carried out to divert the ship.

The CTS shared photos of the seized shipment. The photos purportedly show small jet engines and other electronic and mechanical parts involved in the manufacturing of drones.

However, what stands out is what appears to be several loitering munitions that appears to be nearly identical to the FW30 manufactured by China’s SkyWing UAV.

The FW30 features a combat design with retractable wings and the ability to launch from a tube. It weighs just six kilograms with an endurance of 30 minutes and a maximum range of 30 kilometers. The loitering munition is equipped with an electro-optical system and a data-link with a range of 20 kilometers. It can carry a payload of 1,5 kg, and the company implies that it can be equipped with a fragmentation warhead.

On its website, SkyWing UAV offers the loitering munition for $13,000 and there is even a “BUY IT NOW” option. It is unclear, however, if the loitering munition can be purchased by anyone without a warhead, as a hubby drone. It is possible that this is how the Houthis or some other side was able to ship them to Yemen.

This was the second such shipment to be seized by forces loyal to the Yemeni government before it could reach the Houthis in recent weeks.

On July 16, the National Resistance Force said that it had seized 750 tons of weapons and ammunition which were enroute from Iran to the group. The shipment, which included anti-aircraft and anti-ship missiles, was seized in the Red Sea.

In a report released earlier this year, the New Arab said that China was playing a direct or an indirect role in enhancing the capabilities of the Houthis.

Western officials told the outlet’s Arabic version, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that the group has increasingly deployed advanced weaponry and systems of Chinese origin, marking a departure from their previous reliance on Russian and Iranian equipment.

The shipment seized by the CTS may be the first evidence of such support, or just a stunt meant to pressure China over its good relations with Houthis.

The Houthis are allowing Chinese ships to pass through the Red Sea’s Bab el-Mandeb strait “untouched,” thanks to apparent backdoor agreements, Barron’s said in a report released on August 7, just a day after the seizure of the shipment.

A campaign by the Houthis to pressure Israel over its war on the Gaza Strip has very much limited Western shipping via the Red Sea. Two ships were sunk by the group near al-Hodeidah earlier this year.

In exchange for guaranteeing China, Russia, and Iran safe transit and hybrid warfare on Western assets, the Houthis are getting intelligence, weaponry, and diplomatic assistance from the axis, according to the report.

It is important to note that these serious accusations come amid reports of an Israel plan to launch a large-scale attack on Yemen.

Copenhagen is pledging to buy $500 million in arms that will be matched by the three Scandinavian countries. “Ukraine is not only fighting for its own security, but also for our security,” Swedish Defence Minister Pal Jonson.

The Wall Street Journal reports this is the first of several weapon sales to Ukraine paid for by NATO members this summer.

NATO and President Donald Trump recently unveiled a scheme to send Ukraine $10 billion in US weapons funded by Europe and Canada. However, several European countries have announced they will not participate in the program.

Ukrainian President Zelensky celebrated the announcement. “We already have commitments from the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark – over one billion dollars for American weapons that Ukraine will receive,” he wrote on X. “Thank you! This cooperation with NATO countries will continue.”

The Ukrainian leader also said he had a “productive” conversation with President Donald Trump. Zelensky says he spoke with Trump about adding new sanctions on Russia.

According to Reuters, the scheme also allows for countries that donate weapons to Ukraine to have priority access to receiving replacement arms from the US.

Dockworkers in Italy Block Arms Shipment to Israel

This outcome adds to a growing list of union-led actions across Europe in solidarity with Palestine and against the ongoing genocide in Gaza, Ana Vracar reports.

Italian port workers secured a significant win last week in their ongoing resistance to militarization and arms transfers, as shipping operators decided they would not unload military cargo destined for Israel from the vessel COSCO Shipping Pisces — returning the containers to their point of origin instead.

“We were informed today that the three containers carrying military equipment, destined for La Spezia and transported aboard the COSCO Pisces, will not be unloaded in either Genoa or La Spezia,” the union Unione Sindacale di Base (USB) said on July 29. “This decision marks a tangible result of union action and the pressure exerted by USB.”

This outcome adds to a growing list of union-led actions across Europe in solidarity with Palestine and against the ongoing genocide in Gaza, where at least 60,000 people have been killed by the Israeli occupation.

“From Greece to Liguria, as previously demonstrated with the support of French dockworkers, the network of dockworkers across Europe and the Mediterranean has shown that stopping war logistics is possible, legitimate, and necessary,” Unione Sindacale di Base wrote.

Following the announcement, a planned Aug. 5 strike was called off. However, Genoa dockworkers have pledged to continue mobilizing against the arms trade. They have also announced plans for an international assembly on Sept. 26–27, which aims to lay the groundwork for a sector-wide strike.

“We are not alone: our struggle unites Marseille, Piraeus, Hamburg, Tangier,” trade unionists declared earlier in July. “If the war comes through the ports, the response must come from the ports.”

Unione Sindacale di Base logistical workers continue to expand their campaign on the principle that strikes are a legitimate tool in the fight against war, militarization and forced worker involvement in arms trafficking.

“Law 146/1990 speaks clearly: war operations are not essential services, and a strike is legitimate if it serves to defend collective security and constitutional order,” the union noted. “Stopping arms is not just a political choice, it is a right.”

Locally, from Genoa to Brescia, workers’ actions are disrupting the chains that fuel massacres and armed conflict, USB emphasized. Their mobilization against the arms trade, including strikes, is backed by a growing international solidarity bloc.

“Dockworkers in Europe, the Mediterranean, and elsewhere will not become accomplices of the murderous state of Israel and its allies – the USA, NATO and the EU,” the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) wrote in a statement of support to dockworkers in Italy. “They will not allow ports and infrastructure to become instruments of war for the slaughter of people by the imperialists.”

Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong’s “disappointing” response to the arrest of a Chinese spy has been admonished by a former member of the Australian Federal Police.

Last week, a Chinese woman was charged for allegedly covertly collecting information about a Canberra Buddhist association on behalf of a foreign nation.

Senator Wong refused to say if she had raised the case with officials in Beijing.

Speaking on Tuesday, Senator Wong said the Albanese government was keeping “clear eyed” on China and insisted she had faith Beijing would act in its own interest.

“I trust China to do what China thinks is in its interest and I trust Australia to do what’s in our interests,” she told the Today show.

Former Australian Federal Police detective superintendent David Craig told Sky News the Foreign Minister’s remarks were both “interesting and disappointing”.

“Interesting and disappointing that Penny Wong would say that she trusts that China will act in China's interests and Australia will act in its interests, but there is a serious clash here,” he said.

“This is China's interest being satisfied within our borders by targeting our citizens.”

Mr Craig said the espionage which had taken place was a “disgraceful act and an escalation” of what China had been doing to the Chinese diaspora within Australia.

“Our Iranian, Russian and Chinese communities in Australia are vulnerable to this sort of manipulation if we don't take a strong stand against it and clearly Penny Wong is not doing that at all,” he said.

Asked why he thought the Albanese government was being reluctant to call out the foreign interference, Mr Craig said it was due to a “lack of backbone”.

China has since claimed it "never interferes" in other countries’ internal affairs, despite Beijing having a long history of foreign espionage and political meddling.

The case has sparked fears of newly inflamed tensions with China.

Laura Ann Hill, a married mother-of-two, is facing ten years behind bars after being charged with sexual assault following a secret love affair with a student more than half her age, the Herald Sun reported.

The 38-year-old maths and wellbeing teacher at Alkira Secondary College, in Cranbourne North, felt “exhausted” in her family household as she started seeing a 15-year-old girl from her school.

Hill claimed she was in love with the girl and felt the student was in love with her too over a span of two months.

She faced County Court on Wednesday as details of her secret love affair were revealed.
