Through his consultations, he has assisted numerous patients navigating advanced cancer diagnoses, often referred to as "turbo cancers," by sharing evidence-based insights on alternative protocols backed by emerging research. His work has garnered testimonials from patients reporting improved outcomes, including reduced tumor markers and extended remission periods.
"The CPSA's pursuit of this injunction is not just an attack on my professional freedom—it's a direct threat to vulnerable Stage 4 cancer patients who rely on my expertise for hope and options, along with conventional treatments," said Makis.
"Many of these individuals have been failed by the system, facing skyrocketing wait times and limited access to innovative care in Alberta. Shutting down my coaching would leave them without a vital resource, potentially costing lives."
The proposed injunction stems from CPSA concerns that Makis' activities may constitute unauthorized medical practice, despite his emphasis on coaching rather than direct treatment. This move comes amid ongoing legal disputes, including court costs exceeding $200,000 that Dr. Makis describes as "extortionate." If granted, the injunction would halt his consultations, which typically cost around $500 and involve personalized reviews of patient cases, often conducted remotely.
Beyond the human impact, the injunction would devastate Makis' ability to earn an income. As a sole provider for his family, he relies on these coaching services, to sustain his work.
"This isn't about regulation—it's about silencing dissent and protecting entrenched interests in healthcare," Dr. Makis added.
"I've exposed corruption within Alberta Health Services (AHS) and CPSA, including sabotage of cancer programs that affected thousands of patients. Now, they're coming after my livelihood."
Makis calls on supporters, patients, and policymakers to rally against what he views as regulatory overreach. He urges Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and the public to investigate CPSA practices, emphasizing the need for reforms that prioritize patient choice and innovation in cancer care.
