Alarming New Study Finds Smartphones Ruining Our Brains at Unprecedented Speed

Any parent with a kid addicted to TikTok or Instagram is familiar with the concern that it’s ruining their brain. I’m of a certain age where I heard that refrain regularly from my Dad as I settled in each summer afternoon to watch reruns of Gilligan’s Island, The Brady Bunch, and The Partridge Family. It was the Golden Age of reruns.

But what was once hyperbole has turned into science, and the results are beyond alarming. The universal addiction to smartphones is actively ruining our brains — especially Generation Z — and at a pace that should absolutely freak everyone out.

The Financial Times recently published a devastating analysis of American personality changes using data from the Understanding America Study, and the findings should stop you cold.

In less than a decade, conscientiousness — the trait most closely linked to responsibility, follow-through, and self-control — has collapsed among young adults. For those aged 16 to 39, it’s not a gradual erosion; it’s a plunge from respectability into the low 30th percentile. Older adults (who aren’t addicted to smartphones), meanwhile, remain essentially unchanged.

The FT write up generously sums up the findings, writing:

While a full explanation of these shifts requires thorough investigation, and there will be many factors at work, smartphones and streaming services seem likely culprits. The advent of ubiquitous and hyper-engaging digital media has led to an explosion in distraction, as well as making it easier than ever to either not make plans in the first place or to abandon them. The sheer convenience of the online world makes real-life commitments feel messy and effortful. And the rise of time spent online and the attendant decline in face-to-face interactions enable behaviours such as “ghosting”.

Other charts in the article reveal that attention deficits are not just at issue: a deeper commitment to a digital world over the real world is also evolving at an alarming rate, as is a sharp decline in trust and extroversion. If you need evidence of this just go to any public park and witness the vast majority of people staring into their phones.

Let me tell you why this isn’t just concerning — it’s civilizational.

We are living through a revolution bigger than the printing press. That’s not hyperbole. When Gutenberg’s press arrived in the 15th century, it rewired the world by making knowledge scalable. It took centuries for that transformation to ripple through every corner of human society. The smartphone has done something similar — only it’s moving at light speed, and in the opposite direction.

In less than 15 years, we’ve tethered billions of brains to an always-on, infinitely stimulating “meta-world” — a hybrid of the broader digital ecosystem, the AI-powered feed that tells you what is conventionally known, and social media platforms that distort reality by promoting the loudest, most self-promotional sliver of humanity. This is not a tool for quiet reflection; it’s a behavioral slot machine that lives in your hand.

And the cost is attention. Not just “I get distracted sometimes” attention, but the deep, sustained focus that conscientiousness requires. The skill of delaying gratification, resisting impulse, and staying the course is being replaced by an addiction to novelty, validation, and stimulation. The more we indulge, the less we can resist indulging — and the chart’s freefalling red line for young adults shows exactly where that road leads.

The speed of this shift should terrify us. The printing press transformed literacy, religion, and politics, but it did so over centuries, allowing institutions and cultures to adapt. The smartphone has reshaped cognition, social norms, and mental health in barely a decade — without any meaningful adaptation at all. We didn’t get a century to build guardrails; we got a push notification. Future historian will likely look at this as the era in which humans zombified themselves — presuming of course there are future historians not addicted to their phones.

Is it too late? Maybe. The genie is so far out of the bottle it’s running its own TikTok channel and also attention deficit addled.

Regulation? Don’t hold your breath. Silicon Valley’s incentives are too deeply tied to engagement metrics — and engagement, as currently defined, thrives on keeping you distracted, anxious, and coming back for more.

Mexican Cartels put on notice.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly, while not confirming the reports, said in a statement that Mr. Trump's "top priority is protecting the homeland, which is why he took the bold step to designate several cartels and gangs as foreign terrorist organizations."

In February, the Trump administration designated eight drug trafficking groups as terrorist organizations. Six are Mexican, one is Venezuelan, and the eighth originates in El Salvador.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday the administration could use the designations to "target" cartels.

On Thursday, the U.S. Justice Department doubled to $50 million its bounty on Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro, whom it accuses of leading the Cartel of the Suns.

Trump Quashes Joe Biden’s ‘Quiet Amnesty’ for Illegal Aliens as DHS Reopens Deportation Cases

President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is ending former President Joe Biden’s so-called “quiet amnesty” for hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens as the agency reopens deportation cases that had previously been administratively closed.

For years under Biden, the nation’s immigration courts were instructed to dismiss deportation cases or close deportation cases for illegal aliens rather than adjudicating their asylum claims — the overwhelming majority of which are typically found to be invalid.

DHS officials, as a reversal of that Biden-era policy, are reopening deportation cases of illegal aliens who had enjoyed such dismissals or administrative closures, the Los Angeles Times reports:

Adan Rico and Torres are among thousands of immigrants who have built lives around the assumption they are safe from being detained and deported. Now they face that threat at the hands of the Department of Homeland Security, which is giving new life to administratively closed cases in a bid to step up immigration enforcement. [Emphasis added]

“Biden chose to release millions of illegal aliens, including criminals, into the country and used prosecutorial discretion to indefinitely delay their cases and allow them to illegally remain in the United States,” [DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin] said. “Now, President Trump and Secretary Noem are following the law and resuming these illegal aliens’ removal proceedings and ensuring their cases are heard by a judge.” [Emphasis added]

Last year, the House Judiciary’s Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement — led by Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) — issued a report detailing the scope of Biden’s “quiet amnesty” via administrative closures.

“The Biden-Harris Administration has used the immigration court backlog as an excuse to allow even more aliens to remain in the country,” their report states:

Instead of actually adjudicating illegal aliens’ cases based on the merits of aliens’ claims for relief—such as whether an alien has a valid and successful asylum claim—immigration judges under the Biden-Harris Administration have been tasked with rubberstamping case dismissals, case closures, and case terminations, all of which allow illegal aliens to remain in the United States without immigration consequences. This sort of quiet amnesty has become a staple of the Biden-Harris Administration’s immigration courts. [Emphasis added]

“Under the Biden-Harris Administration,” the report continued, “more than 700,000 illegal aliens have had their cases dismissed, terminated, or administratively closed, allowing those aliens to stay in the country indefinitely without facing immigration consequences.”

WHO calls US axing mRNA vaccine contracts a 'significant blow'

The decision by US President Donald Trump's administration to terminate 22 federal contracts for mRNA-based vaccines is a major blow to a hugely promising platform, the World Health Organization said on Thursday.

The announcement made by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. marked his latest effort to weave vaccine skepticism into the core of US government policy.

"This is, of course, a significant blow," WHO immunisation figurehead Joachim Hombach told the UN correspondents' association ACANU.

"mRNA vaccines are a very important technology and platform which has served us extremely well for Covid. We also know there is very promising work going on in relation to influenza vaccines.

"From our perspective, the platform is particularly useful in relation to developing vaccines against emerging and pandemic threats, because these platforms can be very rapidly adapted."

Unlike traditional vaccines, which often use weakened or inactivated forms of the target virus or bacteria, mRNA shots deliver genetic instructions into the host's cells, prompting them to produce a harmless decoy of the pathogen and train the immune system to fight the real thing.

The US health department's Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority is "terminating 22 mRNA vaccine development investments because the data show these vaccines fail to protect effectively against upper respiratory infections like COVID and flu", Kennedy said.

Hombach executive secretary for the WHO's strategic advisory group of experts on immunisation called for work on the development of mRNA vaccines to continue around the world.

"This is, from our perspective, an unfortunate and untimely move but we are confident that the research endeavour will continue because it's an extremely promising technology," he told reporters.

Shortly after his inauguration in January, Trump signed an executive order directing the United States to withdraw from the WHO, an organisation he has repeatedly criticised over its handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Good for Missouri for leading the crackdown on illegal robocalls. Every state needs to step up.

Attorney General Bailey Launches “Operation Robocall Roundup” To Crack Down On Illegal Callers, Targets 37 Telecom Companies

Home 9 Press Release 9 Attorney General Bailey Launches “Operation Robocall Roundup” To Crack Down On Illegal Callers, Targets 37 Telecom Companies

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Today, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced that his Office has joined a nationwide effort to stop the flood of illegal robocalls harassing Missouri consumers. As part of “Operation Robocall Roundup,” a multistate initiative led by the Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force, Attorney General Bailey and 50 other bipartisan attorneys general have issued warning letters to 37 voice service providers demanding they stop transmitting unlawful robocalls through their networks.

“Missourians are fed up with the relentless onslaught of robocalls,” said Attorney General Bailey. “My Office is committed to holding bad actors accountable and protecting Missouri consumers from fraud and harassment. We’re putting telecom companies on notice – if you help criminals reach our citizens, we will take action.”

The targeted providers have either:

Failed to comply with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requirements to respond to government traceback requests,

Failed to register in the FCC’s Robocall Mitigation Database, or

Failed to file a mitigation plan describing how they will block illegal robocalls on their networks.

By ignoring these basic safeguards, these companies are enabling scammers to reach Missourians and passing fraudulent call traffic through to other providers down the line.

In addition to the 37 companies receiving warning letters, more than 100 downstream providers are also being notified. These downstream companies are being informed that they are doing business with providers that are actively violating federal robocall mitigation rules.

The FCC is also cracking down. The Commission has announced plans to remove seven of these providers from its Robocall Mitigation Database. Once removed, other providers will be prohibited from accepting and routing any calls from their networks, effectively cutting off their ability to reach consumers.

The voice service providers receiving warning letters are Advantage Investors LLC, Alpha Stream, Ananya Traders LLC, Ariyan Khan, BBT Voice Private Limited, Belthrough, BPO VoIP, Collection 3 LLC, Communications and Telephone Systems Co., Dial Vista Corp., DigitalOcean LLC, Dtel Network LLC, End Zone Financial Services, EON Telecom Inc., Family Communication Inc., Fiber Flux VOIP, First Tele Communications Inc., Flow VOIP LLC, Globe Tech Solutions, Higher Response Marketing Inc., HK KwaiFong Group Limited, Infinity SIP LLC, Lexico Telecom LTD / Lextel LTD, Mexico IP Phones LLC, Nexusphere VOIP LLC, Pleedex LLC, Quantum Link VOIP LLC, Ringnition, SK Teleco LLC, SkyPulse VOIP, Stacy Newsome LNCC LCC, Telnextrix LLC, Terra Voip, TheVisionConnect, Tiera Enterprises LLC, Voip Torque, and Whisl Telecom LLC / Telconus / Telcon US / Telcon Voice.

Missourians who receive unwanted or fraudulent robocalls can report them to the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Unit by calling 800-392-8222 or visiting ago.mo.gov.

New York AG Letitia James officially under grand jury investigation by DOJ 👀

New York Attorney General Letitia James is now under criminal investigation over her targeting of both President Donald Trump and another instance at the direction of Attorney General Pam Bondi, Breitbart News has learned.

Two sources briefed on the matter told Breitbart News that subpoenas have been sent to James focusing on what they say are allegations she engaged in what is called a “deprivation of rights” when she targeted Trump and another instance. Subpoenas have been issued, these sources say, and there is an active and open grand jury investigation that was ordered by Bondi and is being run by a U.S. Attorney’s office in New York. While the sources did not specify which U.S. Attorney in New York is handling the James investigation — there are multiple U.S. Attorney’s offices in New York — since her office is in Albany and that that is from where she took these actions for which she is now under investigation, it would be appear that probably means the northern district in New York is the one handling this.

While these sources briefed on the matter did not say more than this investigation was focused on a “deprivation of rights” question, the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division website quite clearly specifically includes statutes focused on this front. “Section 242 of Title 18 makes it a crime for a person acting under color of any law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States,” the Justice Department website states.

The DOJ website notes as well that depending on the severity of such an offense, if someone is convicted of this federal crime they could face life in prison or even the death penalty.

“For the purpose of Section 242, acts under ‘color of law’ include acts not only done by federal, state, or local officials within their lawful authority, but also acts done beyond the bounds of that official’s lawful authority, if the acts are done while the official is purporting to or pretending to act in the performance of his/her official duties,” the DOJ website states. “Persons acting under color of law within the meaning of this statute include police officers, prisons guards and other law enforcement officials, as well as judges, care providers in public health facilities, and others who are acting as public officials. It is not necessary that the crime be motivated by animus toward the race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin of the victim.”

Again, it is unclear if that is the specific statute under which James faces criminal investigation, but the sources briefed on the matter did say that the investigation is focused on a “deprivation of rights” case with regard to Trump and with regard to another instance as well. Since subpoenas have been issued, normally federal subpoenas would cite a specific statute — but again, those documents are not as of yet publicly available.

This news comes after it was revealed in May of 2025 that James was under FBI investigation for potential alleged mortgage fraud. She now faces multiple criminal investigations from federal law enforcement.

James regularly campaigned for the office she holds now on going after Trump, and this line of investigation is likely to prove to be fruitful because of the fact she was so open about plotting to come after him before she won her election as New York Attorney General. As Breitbart News editor-in-chief Alex Marlow details in his just-published book Breaking The Law, James pledged to come after Trump — and then did so.

In a piece this week explaining the ties back to the Democrat Joe Biden White House of all the lawfare against Trump establishing the fact pattern laid out in his book, Marlow had this key detail:

Letitia “Tish” James is a partisan Democrat who ran and won her race for New York Attorney General specifically to try to destroy Trump. She is one of the most open and public practitioners of lawfare featured in the book. She once told a group of New York Democrats that “I look forward to going into the office of the Attorney General every day, suing [Trump], and then going home.” She uses the law to advance political goals, and she doesn’t hide that fact. Despite rising crime in New York during her tenure as state AG, she seems entirely fixated on getting Trump.
