Killer ID'd as canine officer Lyle

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (KGO) – Authorities say an off-duty Sonoma County sheriff's deputy is dead after he fatally shot his ex-partner, who is also a sheriff's department employee, before taking his own life.

Police say that man was off duty Sonoma County sheriff's deputy, Jeremy Lyle, 44, a ten-year veteran of the department. He is pictured on the department's Instagram page with his K9, Rappa.

The victim is Lyle's ex-partner, Mari Bonnici, 38, who was a sheriff's department employee.

Twin toddlers and a baby unharmed (physically). Headline says "his children," but article says "ex-partner," without noting paternity.

He carried the infant to a neighbor, asking them to call 911 and tell them that the child's mother was injured. Deceased mother was found on couch, at least one gunshot wound, twin toddlers in back room.

Killer found parked outside coroner's office at 7:30 pm. Refused to surrender. Took own life at 2 am - 7½ hours later.

The sheriff's department says the colleagues of the deceased are mourning the loss of two beloved employees.
