There is an attempt to create an 'automated world' which is driven by the fact that human society tends to grow with no clear goal in mind, until it breaks, so those charged with power do what they can to, well, make it work. The problem is that there is no actual way to automate something so complex, and so they end up in a sort of feedback loop where they keep returning to the need for more information to make their systems work more efficiently. Rather than actually working though, the world ends up careening into the uncanny valley until it's obvious to everyone that it's "fake" and the explosive anger of the general population destroys everything.
In my mind, the only actual solution is to help the general population understand their role in making society work, so the whole thing becomes a team effort rather than a small handful of people struggling with insufficient resources to accomplish an impossible task.
