"Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past."

It's very much worth dwelling on this statement in light of the rapid AI acceleration…

(even if Orwell is somewhat overquoted, used and abused at the moment)

As LLMs become humanity's primary interface with knowledge, power gets wildly concentrated in just a few hands.

AI is trained on data we can't inspect, modified by processes we can't verify.

So who decides what gets emphasised? Or what gets forgotten?

Closed-source models (GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and the like) are corporately controlled behind closed doors.

And even open models often lack transparency on training data.

I think it's time we established some pillars of AI Sovereignty:

  1. Collective ownership of training data

Humanity's knowledge out of corporate hands. And it should be permanently, and verifiably stored. Allowing communities to understand, and control, exacltly what is powering the global hive-mind.

  1. Open, and collective ownership of LLMs

No single entity should stand over the 'world brain'. Open ownership of LLMs, and the ability for universal access and competition over their creation and the training sets, should be the default. With community verification to boot.

  1. Personal ownership of AI outputs

Your conversations, creations, and insights belong to you. They're not training data for the next corporate model.

Let's enshrine privacy and individual sovereignty over AI interactions, by design.

Yes, we've built a privacy-preserving autonomous data network that can underpin all this… so you'd expect us to be banging this drum!

But it's not just about something as unglamorous as data storage.

It's about who gets to shape our reality. Who gets to own your future.

(hint: it should be you)
