At times tragic, at others tawdry, the turbulent history of the Biden clan was one that the mainstream US media was long happy to ignore.

But even on those occasional moments when the family couldn't avoid unflattering attention, the one consolation for other Bidens was that at least they weren't Hunter.

With his crack addiction, passion for prostitutes and internet porn, and his illegal gun purchase, there was a family scion who could be relied on to hog the headlines and leave his relatives in peace.

And that was particularly true of his half-sister Ashley whose own issues – including chronic drug abuse, sex addiction, extra-marital affairs and becoming 'hyper-sexualized' in her youth – were revealed in a stolen diary that, while jaw-dropping, only briefly made waves in 2020 before the world's attention was once more back on the squalid saga of Hunter.

Now, however, Ashley is in the spotlight once more after revealing she is ending her 13-year marriage to plastic surgeon Dr Howard Krein.

In the grand tradition of the Bidens, her announcement was bizarre.

After filing divorce paperwork in a Philadelphia court, she celebrated by posting a string of freedom-themed songs and inspirational quotes on Instagram.

They included video footage - since deleted - of her walking through a park and giving a thumbs-up, to the tune of Beyonce's song 'Freedom'.

Ashley also reposted a quote that read: 'New life, new beginnings means new boundaries. New ways of being that won't look or sound like they did before.'

This was accompanied by a burst of Lauryn Hill's song Freedom Time.

Ashley also deployed another inspirational quote – 'let your smile change the world, but don't let the world change your smile' – but wrongly attributed it to reggae star Bob Marley.

It has yet to emerge what prompted the couple's split – although Dr Krein was still sufficiently close to Ashley last year that he was with her in the Oval Office as President Biden dramatically announced his decision that July to abandon his re-election bid.

However, cuts forward to November, when the Bidens gathered for Thanksgiving in Nantucket, he was not in a group photo – and Ashley was not wearing her wedding ring. They have no children.

Ashley Blazer Biden, now 44, began dating Dr Krein, who is 58, in 2010 after they were introduced by her late brother Beau.

He proposed to her on a cliff in Big Sur, California, in late 2011 after reportedly getting her father's permission.

Biden, who was then vice president, told People magazine: 'This is the right guy. And he's getting a helluva woman.'

A practicing Catholic, Ashley married the Jewish doctor in an interfaith ceremony at a Catholic church in Delaware in 2012.

The couple then flew largely under the radar as they lived in Philadelphia where she was a social worker and he worked at a local hospital.

'I have always been boy crazy,' she wrote. 'Hyper-sexualized @ a young age… I remember somewhat being sexualized with [her first cousin] Caroline; I remember having sex with friends @ a young age; showers w/ my dad (probably not appropriate).'

Dave Schaeffer is running out of options to stave off the collapse of the Washington, DC, property empire he built over three decades.

It was bad enough that his commercial real estate portfolio has lost more than half its value since 2022. But shares of the internet service provider he founded in 1999 — which he’s sold in record amounts to pay down debt on his properties — have also plunged this year. That selloff reached such extremes earlier this month that JPMorgan & Chase Co. and Royal Bank of Canada seized more than $82 million of shares he’d pledged as collateral for loans.

In total, Schaeffer has given up 84% of his stake in Cogent Communications Holdings Inc. this year. Analysts at Wells Fargo & Co. are cautiously optimistic that the worst is over, but acknowledge the margin calls were “optically very challenging.”

Schaeffer, who at times had pledged as much as 80% of his stake in Cogent against loans to cover his tax bills, is weighing his path forward. Schaeffer said that while he doesn’t have a “crystal clear plan,” he’s begun negotiations with his real estate lenders to try to buy more time and change the terms of his debt.

“The sales that I had made had been under duress, most of them completely involuntary,” Schaeffer, 69, said in an interview. “I’m in a particularly tough real estate position because my lenders could actually look to my Cogent holdings and realize that there was a pool of capital that they could access.”

Schaeffer’s experience is a stark example of how margin loans can backfire. He said he tried to keep his two primary assets — his Cogent stake and his property portfolio — separate, but his lenders knew about both. This meant he couldn’t simply “extend and pretend,” a favored practice in the real estate industry when bankers extend the terms of a loan and pretend the asset’s value hasn’t changed.

there’s been a massive data breach affecting THALES, Dassault, and Safran systems indirectly, but the main target was Naval Group (French shipbuilding giant)

Around 13GB of internal data has already been leaked. The full dump is reportedly over 1TB.

It includes stuff like:

•Full source code for the CMS used on French Frigates and Submarines.

• Weapon system software for Nuclear-Powered subs

• User manuals, Internal emails, Network info

• Even Simulation Environments and restricted documents (Rafale-M included)

The hacker (who goes by Neferpitou) gave them 72 hours to respond. No deal was made, and he dumped it all for free.

No signs of it being about money. Feels more like a message. Naval Group hasn’t said much, just that they’re investigating. But the data looks legit. Some of it’s been verified.

This is the biggest French defense leak in history.

PS: Dassault on suicide watch now fr
