LOS ANGELES - The California Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert for two boys, ages 2 and 10, who were allegedly abducted by their mother after they ran away from their foster home in Los Angeles' Westlake District early Thursday morning.
What we know
Officials with the Los Angeles Police Department said the children were placed in foster care and were reported missing by their caretakers around 1:30 a.m. near 3rd Street and Virgil Avenue. The LAPD deployed K-9 units to aid in the search, and early on, investigators believed they may have left on their own.
During the early hours of the investigation, it was believed the two boys were trying to return to their mother's home in South LA's Vermont Square neighborhood and by 10 a.m., LAPD officials said it is believed the mother had picked up her two boys.
