Gabbard bars intel sharing on Russia-Ukraine talks – CBS News

The US director of national intelligence earlier accused NATO of failing to recognize Moscow’s “legitimate security concerns”

US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard hasordered all information about the ongoing Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations be withheld from US intelligence partners, CBS News reported on Thursday, citing sources.

Several unnamed US officials familiar with the matter told the outlet that the memo, which is dated July 20, directed intelligence agencies to classify all relevant data and subject analysis asNOFORN – not to be shared with foreign partners, including members of the Five Eyes intelligence framework, which includes the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

The reported memo strictly limits the distribution of such materials to the agency from which they originated. However, it does not appear to bar the sharing of diplomatic or military operational intelligence collected outside the US intelligence community, such as security information shared with Ukrainian forces.

CBS alsocited several former US officials who warned the directive’s sweeping scope could erode trust between Washington and its alliesbuilt on open intelligence sharing. Others, however, disagreed, pointing out that such a move is not unprecedented in US practice and that withholding information in areas of diverging interests is common among Five Eyes partners.

Gabbard has been critical of the West’s hawkish approach to the Ukraine conflict, suggesting that it was caused by NATO’s refusal to acknowledge Russia’s “legitimate security concerns” regarding Ukrainian membership in the bloc.

The reported directive preceded the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska on August 15. That meeting – to which neither Ukraine nor any of the US allies were invited – concluded without an agreement on a ceasefire or a peace deal, although both leaders praised the talks as constructive.

In the days following the Alaska talks, Trump hosted Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky and European leaders at the White House. Talks focused on finding a path to settling the conflict and security guarantees for Ukraine. Trump later told Zelensky that he had to “show flexibility”and reiterated that Kiev would not join NATO.

Germany looking to end reliance on US tech giant – Bild

Berlin has begun testing open source tools to replace Microsoft software in pursuit of digital sovereignty

Germany is considering abandoning Microsoft software in favor of open-source alternatives, Bild has reported. The move has come as countries across the world seek to boost their digital autonomy and reduce dependence on American technology firms.

Germany’s Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs has confirmed that it intends to increase the use of European solutions and open-source software in government operations, according to the report, which was released on Wednesday. In a statement to Bild, the ministry said it is already testing Open Desk as an alternative to Microsoft Office, which could replace Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

One German state has already taken concrete steps. Schleswig-Holstein is phasing out Microsoft products from its administration, replacing Office with LibreOffice, Windows with Linux, and Microsoft Exchange and Outlook with Nextcloud, Open-Xchange and Thunderbird. The program covers tens of thousands of public employees, including teachers, civil servants and police officers.

Officials have reportedly acknowledged that the transition will not be immediate. The ministry told Bild that raising Germany’s digital sovereignty is a process that cannot happen “at the push of a button.”

Bild also noted that the move carries political undertones. ==The newspaper claimed that reliance on American products is now seen as risky due to the “zigzag course” of US President Donald Trump’s administration•=, which has created uncertainty over Washington’s policy direction.

Germany is not alone in pursuing alternatives to US software. France’s police, Denmark’s Digital Ministry, and administrations in Austria and Spainhave introduced open-source systems in place of Microsoft products. Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela have implemented similar programs. India’s Ministry of Defense has rolled out Maya OS, a Linux-based platform, to replace Windows.

Russia has also accelerated the replacement of foreign-developed software with domestic alternatives. The shift has intensified since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, after which Microsoft and other Western companies curtailed operations in the country.Russian officials have argued that the withdrawal of US tech providers underscored the risks of relying on unpredictable foreign suppliersand reinforced the need to ensure digital sovereignty.

(Plus they spy on everyone and have all peoples data, and top priority in their business is AI, so they analyze it faster. Microsoft is a danger to all countries.)

Ukraine should be probed over ‘subversion’ in Africa – Moscow

“Concrete” evidence shows Kiev’s special services are backing armed groups in the Sahel, Russia has told the UN

Ukraine is providing weapons, drones, and training for militants to stage coordinated attacks on governments in Africa’s Sahel region, the Russian deputy representative to the UN has said.

Dmitry Polyansky made the allegations on Wednesday during a UN Security Council (UNSC) briefing on threats to international peace and security, according to an official statement.

“There are concrete facts that clearly demonstrate that the Ukrainian special services, including the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, have been involved in subversive activities in the Sahel countries and other regions of Africa,”Polyansky stated.

“What the Kiev regime is doing on the African continent is something that deserves our particular attention,” he added, calling for an investigation into Ukrainian actions.

Polyansky commended the work of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism and the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate, but criticized the UN Secretary-General’s latest report on threats posed by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) in Africa.

He said the report acknowledges that the terror group is exploiting factors such as political instability and armed conflict to expand its presence on the continent, but overlooks what he called a key element – Western interference in the affairs of states in the region.

The Russian envoy pointed to the NATO-backed 2011 uprising that ousted and killed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi as an example of Western interventions that destroyed state institutions and left a power vacuum exploited by terrorists.

In his speech, Polyansky accused France, in particular, of using terrorism as a tool to enforce neocolonial policies in Africa, arguing that such practices explain why “so-called” counterterrorism missions have consistently failed.

The diplomat claimed Paris is backing rebel forces behind longstanding jihadist violence in the Sahel in “a futile attempt to retain its elusive control” over former colonies.

The military regimes in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Nigerhave also repeatedly accused France and Ukraine of sponsoring armed groups in their countries. Bamako, Niamey, and Ouagadougou have severed defense ties with Paris and expelled French forces, accusing their former colonial ruler of prolonging instability. They have since strengthened security ties with Russia, which they consider a more reliable partner.

(I thought Ukraine was lacking military, are they sending the best trained to Africa, and let Ukrainians fight Russia.)

Kiev’s European backers want F-35 ‘security guarantee‘ – The TimesFuck No!

President Donald Trump has ruled out deploying American troops, but is open to providing air support

Kiev’s Western European backers have asked the US to deploy F-35 jets to Romania as “security guarantees” to help end the Ukraine conflict, The Times reported on Wednesday. In addition, they reportedly want Washington to supply Kiev with Patriot and NASAMS interceptor missiles, as well as “permission to fly spy planes over the Black Sea.”

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday told Fox News that he had ruled out deploying American troops to Ukraine in the event of a peace deal with Russia but that air support was possible. “They are willing to put people on the ground. We’re willing to help them with things, especially, probably… by air,” he said.

Senior Western European and US military chiefs have since met in Washington to discuss the “logistics” of a security package, The Times wrote.

NATO already runs what the paper described as “policing missions” over the Black Sea from the Mihail Kogalniceanu airbase in Romania, its largest European airbase.

The facility was used by US forces during their invasion of Iraq and would most likely serve as a base for the F-35s, The Times wrote.

European NATO countries also reportedly want guarantees that they would have access to US satellite and intelligence data, according to the newspaper.

Moscow has previously warned that any airfields, in any country, will be legitimate targets if they host jets participating in combat missions against Russian troops involved in the Ukraine conflict.

Russia has also repeatedly warned that it will consider any NATO troops deployed in Ukraine as valid military targets – whether they are sent under the guise of “peacekeepers” or otherwise. Any such deployment risks a direct clash and “uncontrollable escalation” between Russia and the West, Moscow has said.

Several Trump White House Aides Are Leaving For K Street Lobbying Gigs.8/22/25

PULSE POINTS

❓WHAT HAPPENED: Several senior White House aides are leaving for lobbying jobs.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Harrison Fields, Trent Morse, Bo Hines, and May Davis Mailman, among others.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The announcements were made in August 2025 in Washington, D.C.

💬KEY QUOTE: “The demand for these folks is so high that business and folks are looking for a sherpa for this administration,” said Ivan Adler, known as the “Lobbyist Hunter.”

🎯IMPACT: The moves highlight ongoing concerns about the revolving door between government and lobbying.

Several senior Trump administration officials have recently left the White House for roles in Washington’s influence industry, raising fresh concerns about ethics and the revolving door between government and lobbying.

On Wednesday, CGCN Group, a prominent Republican lobbying firm, announced it had hired Harrison Fields, formerly the White House’s principal deputy press secretary. Just a day earlier, Trent Morse, a deputy assistant to the President and deputy director of the Office of Presidential Personnel, confirmed he is leaving to launch his own lobbying firm, partnering with the Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck firm.

The departures come amid growing demand from businesses and organizations seeking help navigating the Trump administration’s policymaking. “The demand for these folks is so high that business and folks are looking for a sherpa for this administration, just because it’s so different,” said Ivan Adler, a veteran D.C. headhunter known as the “Lobbyist Hunter.”

Fields and Morse are not the only ones making the jump. Earlier this month, longtime Trump adviser May Davis Mailman left to start her own government affairs firm. Meanwhile, Bo Hines recently stepped down as executive director of the White House’s crypto council and joined digital asset giant Tether to advise on U.S. crypto policy.

Despite federally mandated one-year cooling-off periods preventing Fields and Morse from lobbying the White House or working for foreign entities directly, they are still permitted to lobby Congress and advise others seeking influence.

Kendric Payne, head of ethics at the Campaign Legal Center, called White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles’s public praise of Morse “a commercial for him. It’s great for business.”

Wiles, a former lobbyist who worked with Morse at multiple firms before, was blunt in her endorsement of Morse’s value as a lobbyist. “Nobody is better able to [guide clients] than Morse,” she said, citing his knowledge across virtually every department due to his role vetting over 3,000 administration hires.

Fields, in a statement, said he leaves the White House “with a heart full of incredible memories,” and looks forward to continuing to support the “MAGA movement” in a new role.

While such moves are common near midterms, the speed and volume of early exits from Trump’s White House have drawn attention. Adler noted,“Trump staffers can command top dollar.”

‘DEEP TROUBLE’: 4 Things to Know About Legal Probes of Adam Schiff

8/22/251/3

Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., already facing two Justice Department investigations, could soon face another on Capitol Hill, legal experts say.

A whistleblower has alleged that Schiff—while he was the top Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence—orchestrated the leaking of classified information to promote the conspiracy theory that President Donald Trump colluded with the Russian government to win the 2016 election.

Meanwhile, Schiff is also under investigation for allegedly providing inaccurate mortgage information for a Maryland home. Both cases are under review by the Justice Department’s Weaponization Working Group.

According to the DOJ, the group is reviewing the work of federal agencies that conducted criminal or civil enforcement over the past four years to identify if their conduct may have had political objectives instead of legitimate government ones.

Schiff has denied wrongdoing. A spokesperson called the charges “baseless smears” while his lawyer said the investigations were politically biased.

Here’s what to know.

1. Potential Ethics Probe

The alleged conduct occurred when Schiff was in the House of Representatives. Now, he’s a senator.

So which body’s ethics panel could investigate?

The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust, a watchdog group, is exploring a potential complaint against Schiff to the Senate Ethics Committee.

The House Ethics Committee loses jurisdiction when someone is no longer a member,” Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust Executive Director Kendra Arnold told The Daily Signal. “The Senate Ethics Committee does have the ability to punish someone for a case before they were in the Senate, but they use it sparingly.”

“Generally, it has to be tied to their duty in the Senate. It could be conduct in running for office that would reflect poorly on the body,” Arnold said. “In this case, his conduct in the House would be related to his official duties.”

Both the DOJ and Senate should investigate, said Mike Davis, founder of Article Three Project, a conservative legal group.

“Adam Schiff is in deep trouble no matter how he tries to spin it,” Davis, formerly chief counsel for nominations for the Senate Judiciary Committee, told The Daily Signal in a statement.

“As ‘Shifty’ Schiff has said repeatedly, ‘Nobody is above the law.’The Senate Ethics Committee—and the Trump Justice Department—must spare no resource to ensure justice is delivered,” he said.

2. Mortgage Case

In May, the Federal Housing Finance Agency sent a referral to the Justice Departmentalleging potential mortgage irregularities by Schiff. The agency said Schiff improperly filled out bank documents to get more favorable loan terms for a Maryland property.

“He may face more legal exposure from the investigation into alleged mortgage fraud,” Zack Smith, a senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation and a former assistant U.S. attorney, told The Daily Signal.

Smith noted that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland scored a mortgage fraud conviction against former Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. However, the conviction was overturned this year on appeal.

The senator contends that he accurately represented to lenders that he and his wife would occupy and use the Maryland house they purchased in 2003 as a “principal residence” rather than a vacation home or an investment property, according to Schiff’s office. He further said he disclosed to his lenders that he maintained another home in California.

3. Leak Investigation

If the “Russian collusion” leak allegations are true, Smith saidit could be worse than a typical leak case because it involved classified information.

“Adam Schiff had access to this information, and he has a duty as a member of Congress to protect this information. There was a certain trust placed in him. If he violated that trust, it deserves punishment,” Smith said.

A declassified FBI memo says, “The leaks were driven from the top; they were structured and intentional. The message conveyed to staff was the U.S. was facing constitutional crisis and something needed to be done,” journalist Catherine Herridge first reported.

The FBI memo said a Democrat staffer from the House Intelligence Committee was fired after objecting to the leaking of the classified information.

A statement from a Schiff spokesperson called the situation the “latest smear” and “absolutely and categorically false.” The statement went on to attack the suspected whistleblower.

“These baseless smears are based on allegations that were found to be not reliable, not credible, and unsubstantiated from a disgruntled former staffer who was fired by the House Intelligence Committee for cause in early 2017, including for harassment and potentially compromising activity on official travel for the committee,” the Schiff spokesperson said in the statement.

Schiff’s office also points to a December 2024 report by the Department of Justice’s Office of Inspector General into leaking, which referenced an unnamed House Intelligence Committee staffer as having “unknown reliability.”

The allegations against Senator Schiff are transparently false, stale, and long debunked.

Now Ed Martin, the most brazenly partisan and politically compromised person possible for the task, has been picked to investigate a political adversary.

The bias here is glaring. Mr. Martin’s nomination to be U.S. attorney of the District of Columbia was derailed not only by his partisanship and unfitness, but also by the hold Senator Schiff appropriately placed on the nomination.

Mr. Martin is a January 6-defending lawyer who has repeatedly pursued baseless and politically motivated investigations to fulfill demands to investigate and prosecute perceived enemies. Any supposed investigation led by him would be the very definition of weaponization of the justice process.

The Daily Signal could not immediately reach a spokesperson for Martin to respond to Bharara’s remarks. However, during a Fox News interview on Sunday, Martin said he is only focused on the facts of the case with Schiff and other investigations that the Weaponization Working Group is looking at.

“We are going to follow the facts. Every American that has a mortgage and has documents they sign has to follow the law. We are going to go to the very bottom of the facts,” Martin told Fox News.

“If somebody did something wrong, we are not only going to hold them accountable,we are also going to look at everything else they’ve been doing, because when you’re a liar, you lie not just on one thing,” Martin continued. “When you are a cheater, you cheat, not just on one thing. When you are doing corruption, you generally don’t just do it on one thing. That’s what we’re asked to do as prosecutors, and that’s what we’re doing.”

(And more to come knowing Schitt)

August 22, 2025 | Sundance |

The Canadian govt led by Prime Minister Mark Carney has completely capitulated to the power and influence of President Trump.

While explaining how the United States has fundamentally changed the entire landscape of global trade, the leader of the Snow Mexicans announces he is dropping all countervailing and retaliatory tariffs against the USA and getting nothing in return. Total and complete surrender by Canada; there is ZERO upside for Canada – NADA, Zippo, Zilch.

Prime Minister MarkCarney made the announcement then faced the ire of the assembled media who were furious about the details within the statement. The Canadian people had been promised an “elbows up” fight to the end.Instead, today they got down on their knees and begged Trump to retain the USMCA.

Complete and utter capitulation by Canada. No digital services taxes. No countervailing duty tariffs. No reciprocity tariffs on Steel and Aluminum. No retaliatory tariffs (reciprocal/baseline). Meanwhile, the USA keeps 50% tariffs on steel and aluminum against Canada, and Canada only gets 25% tariffs against U.S. steel/aluminum.

In addition, Canada has pledged to continue gaslighting their citizens, while wasting time, effort and resources on a hope to retain the USMCA, while refusing to admit to themselves that President Trump intends to dissolve it. WATCH:

If that recap sounds bad for Canada, trust me – it’s way worse. Really bad, horrible; terrible even. So far beyond bad, the light from where horrible starts could not reach the Canadian terrible place for a year.

President Trump Makes an Announcement from The Oval Office – 12:00pm ET Livestream

August 22, 2025 | Sundance |

At noon today, President Trump is scheduled to make an announcement from the oval office in the White House. Several people have speculated about the subject matter, but my suspicions are that this relates to the U.S-Canada trade status.

Perhaps the USMCA is officially opened for renegotiation; or perhaps the “elbows up” team has taken a knee. Regardless, that’s my guess about the subject of the announcement. Let’s watch together: 3 choices

The leader of the Snow Mexicanslooked really small after the White House Ukraine peace summit. Just a guess, but I’m thinking Carney -with economy slowly contracting around him- is trying to get relevant quickly.
