Ukrainian terrorist cell dismantled in Donbass – Moscow

22 Aug, 2025 11:55

Russian law enforcement has broken up a Ukrainian intelligence cell in Donbass that was responsible for attempted assassinations of Russian officials and was planning further attacks, the Federal Security Service (FSB) has said.

In a statement on Friday, the FSB said it had uncovered “an agent group of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR)” operating in Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).

The group included two Russian nationals, aged 38 and 28, who were allegedly involved in car bombings in March and December 2024 targeting a Kherson Region government employee and a former senior official of Russia’s Federal Penitentiary Service in Donetsk.

The FSB said the men also prepared attacks against the head of a municipal administration in Donetsk and an unnamed commander of a volunteer battalion.

The 38-year-old suspect, a resident of Donetsk, was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence in 2022 and tasked with “organizing terrorist attacks, recruiting accomplices and distributing explosive devices,” the FSB said.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old was said to have traveled twice to Moscow in 2023 to gather intelligence on the whereabouts of an unnamed Russian journalist.

The suspects face charges of high treason, terrorism, and illegal circulation of explosives. They could face life in prison if convicted.

The agency also released a video showing a large group of heavily armed operatives entering a building in Donetsk and later escorting a suspect from an apartment.

When asked if he knew why he was being detained, the man replied that he assumed it was for “blowing up a person in Donetsk.”

The video showed what appeared to be one of the suspects planting an explosive device under a car. Then, a man that some reports claim was a Russian official approached the vehicle, which exploded as he tried to get in.

Moscow has on numerous occasions accused Kiev of attempting to stage terrorist plots against senior military personnel, civilian officials, and opinion leaders, as well as sabotage critical infrastructure.

Ukraine launches new attack on key pipeline to EU – Hungary

22 Aug, 2025 10:14

Russian oil supplies to Hungary have been halted after Ukraine targeted the key Druzhba pipeline system for the third time this month, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Friday. The attack was confirmed by Slovak authorities.

Ranked among the world’s longest energy networks, the Druzhba pipeline transports crude oil around 4,000km (2,485 miles) from Russia and Kazakhstan to refineries in Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Poland. Running through Ukraine, the conduit is the primary route for Russian crude deliveries to Hungary and Slovakia.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russian energy infrastructure throughout the conflict. The previous two attacks on Druzhba occurred on August 13 and August 18, with Kiev confirming it had sent drones to strike a key distribution station in Russia’s Bryansk Region.

“This is yet another attack on our country’s energy security – another attempt to drag us into the war,” Szijjarto wrote in a post on Facebook, adding that the pipeline was attacked near the Russian-Belarusian border.

Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Sakova confirmed the attack, saying transfers would stop as the extent of the damage is being investigated.

Apart from the Druzhba system, the Ukrainian military has attacked the TurkStream pipeline, which supplies natural gas to Turkish customers and several European countries, including Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Greece.

Earlier this year, Kiev struck a gas metering station near Sudzha, part of a pipeline that supplied the EU prior to the escalation of the Ukraine conflict.

Unlike most EU nations, Hungary has taken a neutral stance on the conflict and has refused to supply weapons to Kiev.

Budapest has repeatedly called for peace and criticized Western sanctions against Russia as ineffective and more harmful to those who impose them.

The Kremlin has consistently condemned Ukrainian attacks on civilian energy infrastructure as acts of terrorism.

US in talks over Ukraine security role – media

22 Aug, 2025 07:16

Senior US and European officials have discussed options for potential security guarantees for Ukraine, including the idea that Washington could command a group of forces despite not providing its own troops, several media outlets have reported.

According to Reuters, the chiefs of defense from the US, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the UK, and Ukraine met in Washington from Tuesday to Thursday to present options to their national security advisers.

A source told the agency that US Secretary of State and Marco Rubio also held a conference call with his European counterparts on Thursday to review the proposals.

While the final details have not been decided, European nations would be expected to contribute “the lion’s share” of any forces involved, Reuters reported.

A source told the agency that the US is still “determining the scope of its role,” and that one option is the deployment of European forces to Ukraine under US command and control.

CNN confirmed the US stance on European involvement, with a network source claiming Washington could play a limited role in security guarantees, which may include US pilots flying manned air support missions.

European officials have also reportedly suggested that the US continue providing intelligence and surveillance assistance.

ABC News reported that the discussions are in the early stages and are likely to evolve into a wider political debate.

One person familiar with the talks told the outlet that if NATO troops are eventually deployed, they would be training Ukrainian forces rather than carrying out operations against Russia.

US President Donald Trump earlier said Washington would not send ground troops to Ukraine, but did not rule out certain forms of air support.

Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated that any foreign military presence in Ukraine would be “unacceptable” to Moscow, arguing that this would be tantamount to “intervention.”

However, he did not rule out security guarantees for Ukraine or Western involvement in principle, while stressing that any arrangement must be “on an equal basis” and take Russian interests into account.

Seven-man group behind Nord Stream attack – Italian media

22 Aug, 2025 14:23

Italian media have released what they claim to be more details of the investigation into the Nord Stream pipeline bombing, alleging it was executed by a former Ukrainian serviceman and six accomplices.

Nord Stream, which carried Russian natural gas to Germany and Western Europe via the Baltic Sea, was sabotaged in September 2022 by underwater explosions near Denmark’s Bornholm Island. Moscow has dismissed as “ridiculous” the theory that a small group could have carried out the attack.

On Friday, Open.Online and Il Fatto Quotidiano reported that the suspected mastermind of the attack is 49-year-old Sergey Kuznetsov, a veteran of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), citing German investigators.

The bombing plot, allegedly code-named Operation Diameter, is said to have involved Kuznetsov leading a seven-person unit that included two former colleagues and four civilian divers. For the attack, the group allegedly rented a small yacht, the Andromeda, in Rostock, Germany, using fake documents, then packed it with explosives and standard commercial diving equipment.

On September 8, 2022, the group allegedly departed from Wiek, on the island of Rugen, and reached the area off Bornholm. There, during nighttime dives, they planted at least four charges, each weighing 14-27kg, composed of hexogen and octogen with timed fuses, directly on the gas connectors.

Kuznetsov was arrested near Rimini, Italy on an international warrant issued by German prosecutors on Thursday. He faces up to 15 years in prison on charges including anti-constitutional sabotage and awaits extradition to Germany. German Federal Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig called the arrest “a very impressive investigative success,” saying one of the “suspected masterminds” had been caught.

There is no information on whether Kuznetsov is believed to have acted of his own accord or under orders from Kiev. A previous Wall Street Journal report claimed Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky approved the mission, then tried to abort it following a CIA warning. Kiev has denied involvement.

The Nord Stream pipelines, though severely damaged, are considered repairable. Their bombing was seen at the time as an attack on critical energy infrastructure and a stark example of the rising economic fallout of the Ukraine conflict.

Speaking in February 2022, then-US President Joe Biden declared that in the event of an all-out military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, “there will no longer be a Nord Stream. We will bring an end to it.” A year later, veteran investigative journalist Seymour Hersh published a report claiming that Biden had given the order to destroy the pipelines, citing an informed source. The person claimed US Navy divers had planted the explosives, which reportedly caused blasts of 2.3 and 2.1 on the Richter scale, under cover of NATO drills. The White House called the report “complete fiction.”

Swedish engineer Erik Andersson, who led the first and only independent forensic probe at the blast sites, previously told an Italian journalist that the entire divers-on-a-boat story was “a clear mission to whitewash the USA and other Western nations” for their possible part in the sabotage. “The more I look into this, the more I feel that the Nord Stream attack is just a part of a bigger scheme to cut off Russia from Europe,” he said.

Trump ‘angry’ about Ukrainian attacks on key Russian pipeline to EU – Budapest

22 Aug, 2025 16:18

US President Donald Trump has expressed outrage over Ukrainian strikes on a key pipeline supplying Hungary and Slovakia with Russian oil, according to a senior official in Budapest.

On Friday, Balazs Orban, political director to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban (no relation), shared a letter from his boss to Trump raising the issue of the Ukrainian attacks on the Druzhba pipeline.

“Hungary supports Ukraine with electricity and petrol, in return they bomb pipeline that supply us. Very unfriendly move!” the Hungarian leader wrote.

On the same letter, Trump reportedly replied in his own hand: “Viktor – I do not like hearing this. I am very angry about it. Tell Slovakia. You are my great friend,” alongside what appeared to be his signature.

“The Druzhba pipeline is a vital source of Hungary’s crude oil supply, without which our energy security cannot be guaranteed. Hungary will not allow its security to be undermined,” Balazs Orban wrote.

Ukraine has carried out at least three strikes this month on the Druzhba (‘Friendship’) pipeline, which stretches for more than 4,000km from Russia through Belarus and Ukraine to Poland, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.

The Druzhba controversy has become yet another source of tension in the already strained relations between Budapest and Kiev, which are marred by Hungary’s reluctance to support EU sanctions on Russia and by sharp disagreements over the rights of ethnic Hungarians living in western Ukraine.

In response to the attacks on the Druzhba pipeline, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said he and Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar were pressuring Brussels to force Kiev to stop the raids.

“With these attacks Ukraine is not primarily hurting Russia, but Hungary and Slovakia… Brussels must understand: they are the European Commission, not the Ukrainian Commission,” he noted.

Moscow has also denounced the attacks as “outrageous,” portraying them as proof that Kiev sees no bounds when engaging in malignant activities.

Meanwhile, Slovak officials have said the section of the Druzhba pipeline damaged in the latest attack is expected to be repaired by Monday.

Ukraine war latest: Ukraine hits Russian drone base in occupied Crimea; Kremlin says Putin-Zelensky meeting 'not ready at all'

August 22, 2025 9:40 pm

Key developments on Aug. 22:

Ukraine hits Russian drone base at occupied Crimean airfield, Navy claims

Putin-Zelensky meeting 'not ready at all,' Kremlin says despite Trump push for peace deal

Ukraine shoots down Russian Orlan 'mother drone' carrying FPVs for first time, military says

Ukrainian naval drone explosion in Novorossiysk Bay kills 5 'elite' Russian divers, intelligence claims

The Ukrainian Navy attacked a Russian drone base in occupied Sevastopol, Crimea, the Navy reported on Aug. 22.

According to the statement, Ukraine destroyed three Mohajer-6 drones and two Forpost drones at the Khersones airfield on the occupied peninsula.

Russia uses these drones to monitor surface activity in the Black Sea, the Navy said.

Iranian-made Mohajer-6 drones are long-range weapons that can travel up to 200 km (approximately 124 miles). Russia has used Forpost drones against Ukraine since its 2014 invasion.

After the full-scale war began in 2022, the drones were mainly used in the south by the Black Sea Fleet's air forces to target Ukraine's Bastion coastal missile systems.

The exact type of weapon used in the attack, as well as the timing of the attack, is unclear.

The Kyiv Independent could not verify the reports.Crimea has been under Russian occupation since its illegal annexation in 2014.

Ukraine has stepped up strikes on military infrastructure on the peninsula since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.

In early August, Ukrainian forces struck the Yenisei radar station, a component of Russia's advanced S-500 air defense system, in the occupied peninsula, Ukraine's military intelligence claimed.

Putin-Zelensky meeting 'not ready at all,' Kremlin says despite Trump push for peace deal

Plans for a bilateral summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky are "not ready at all," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told NBC News on Aug. 22.

The statement comes as a blow to U.S. President Donald Trump's push for a speedy peace deal to end the war in Ukraine.

Following separate meetings with Putin and Zelensky, Trump said that the next step would be a bilateral summit between the two leaders, which he hoped would occur in the next two weeks.

Lavrov threw cold water on those plans in an interview with NBC News on Aug. 22.

"There is no meeting planned … Putin is ready to meet with Zelensky when the agenda is ready for a summit, and this agenda is not ready at all," Lavrov said.

The Kremlin's top diplomat claimed that delays in arranging the meeting were due to Zelensky's rejection of "several principles" necessary for future peace talks, such as no NATO membership for Ukraine and the "discussion of territorial issues."

"Zelensky said no to everything," Lavrov said.

Zelensky in fact said he was prepared to discuss territory with Putin in a press conference after his White House meeting with Trump on Aug. 18.

"How can we meet with a person who is pretending to be a leader?" Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told NBC News on Aug. 22.

Undermining the legitimacy of Zelensky's government is a key tenet of Russian propaganda. Putin has previously refused to meet with Zelensky on these grounds, which form part of Moscow's justification for its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Trump met directly with Putin in Anchorage, Alaska on Aug. 15 to discuss options for ending the war. Despite reaching no concrete agreements, Trump hailed the meeting as a resounding success and announced that bilateral and trilateral summits involving Zelensky would soon follow.

Zelensky said on Aug. 18 that he was ready to meet with Putin and hold peace talks with Russia without conditions. The AFP then reported that Putin told Trump he was willing to meet Zelensky.

Despite this, the Kremlin made no public comments in support of such a meeting.

Zelensky told reporters on Aug. 20 that if Putin "is not ready" for a one-on-one meeting, Kyiv expects the U.S. to respond with tougher measures.

Ukraine shoots down Russian Orlan 'mother drone' carrying FPVs for first time, military says

Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners shot down a Russian Orlan drone carrying two first-person-view (FPV) drones under its wings for the first time, the 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade reported on Aug. 22.

This marks the first time the Ukrainian military has destroyed a so-called "mother drone" carrying other UAVs, the brigade claimed.

"Anti-aircraft gunners from the 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade destroyed an enemy Orlan drone carrying two FPV drones under its wings," the unit said in a Facebook post.

"Prior to this, the pilots of the pursuit platoon had already shot down dozens of enemy reconnaissance drones — Orlan, Zala, and Supercam — but this was the first time they had managed to destroy a mother drone."

The Orlan is a Russian-developed reconnaissance drone widely used by Russia in Ukraine. Feared by Ukrainian soldiers, it often serves to target Russian artillery attacks. It can travel 600 kilometers and climb to an altitude of 5,000 meters.

Ukraine has previously reported downing high-altitude Orlan drones. Innovations in drone warfare are a key component of Ukraine's defense strategy against Russia.

Kyiv is reportedly developing its own version of a drone-carrier in partnership with the German defense company Quantum Systems.

The Sparta is designed to carry two FPV drones with a combat radius of 200 km (124 miles.)

Ukrainian naval drone explosion in Novorossiysk Bay kills 5 'elite' Russian divers, intelligence claims

A naval drone operated by Ukraine's military intelligence exploded after it lost connection with central control and was seized by Russian military divers in Novorossiysk Bay, killing five of them, the agency reported on Aug. 22.

According to the agency, during an operation in the Black Sea, the naval drone lost connection with its control center due to electronic warfare and started drifting.

Later, the Russian command reportedly ordered five naval reconnaissance divers to retrieve the naval drone from the bay for inspection.

Ukraine's military intelligence HUR identified them as members of the Russian commando frogmen — an elite unit that receives top-level training, significant funding, and advanced equipment.

"While handling a Ukrainian naval drone, it detonated — the explosion resulted in the elimination of all five elite Russian underwater saboteurs," the statement read.

The exact timing of the operation is unknown.

Novorossiysk has become a key port for the Russian Black Sea Fleet after successful Ukrainian strikes on occupied Crimea forced Moscow to pull out much of its naval forces from the peninsula.

The Kyiv Independent could not verify the reports.

NASA Tests Tools to Assess Drone Safety Over Cities

Aug 22, 2025

A future with advanced air mobility aircraft populating the skies will require the U.S. to implement enhanced preflight planning that can mitigate potential risks well before takeoff – and NASA is working to develop the tools to make that happen.

Preflight planning is critical to ensuring safety in the complex, high-risk environments of the future airspace. Timely, predictive, and up-to-date risk assessment within a single platform makes it much easier for drone or air taxi operators to check flight plans for high-risk concerns.

NASA is working on tools to deliver those services, and in June, the agency and aviation safety company ResilienX Inc. demonstrated how these tools can be integrated into commercial systems.

During a series of tests conducted at ResilienX’s facility in Syracuse, New York, researchers used NASA services that allowed flight operators to submit flight plans prior to departure, obtain risk assessment results, and then decide whether to proceed with flights or change their flight plans and re-assess risks.

Allowing operators to perform these tasks quickly reduces the safety risk to flight passengers as well as humans on the ground.

The three NASA-developed services are intended to assess unique risks associated with highly automated aircraft flying at low altitudes over cities.

The partnership was managed under a Phase III NASA Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract, which is an extension of prior work to assess weather-related risks.

This collaboration is already leading to direct technology transfer of safety systems into ResilienX’s platform.

The partnership is also intended to provide indirect benefits for ResilienX partners and customers, such as the U.S. Air Force and regional operators, helping to advance the overall safety of future airspace operations.

This work is led by NASA’s System-Wide Safety project under the Airspace Operations and Safety program in support of the agency’s Advanced Air Mobility mission.

The mission seeks to deliver data, findings, and recommendations to guide the industry’s development of future air taxis and drones.

"Gates Of Hell Will Open": Israel's Warning To Hamas Before Gaza City Takeover

Aug 22, 2025 12:47 pm IST

Netanyahu has said a push to release the hostages would accompany the operation to take control of Gaza City and destroy the Hamas stronghold.

Washington:

Israel's Defence Minister has threatened to destroy Gaza City if Hamas does not agree to disarm, release all remaining hostages in the Palestinian territory and end the war on Tel Aviv's terms.

The warning came as the Jewish state prepares for an expanded offensive in the enclave.

"Soon, the gates of hell will open upon the heads of Hamas's murderers and rapists in Gaza - until they agree to Israel's conditions for ending the war, primarily the release of all hostages and their disarmament," Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz posted on social media.

"If they do not agree, Gaza, the capital of Hamas, will become Rafah and Beit Hanoun," he added, referring to two cities in Gaza largely razed during previous Israeli operations.

His remarks came a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would authorise the military to seize Gaza City. Netanyahu has ordered immediate negotiations aimed at freeing all the remaining hostages in Gaza.

Netanyahu has said a push to release the hostages would accompany the operation to take control of Gaza City and destroy the Hamas stronghold.

Israel's Gaza Plan

Earlier this week, Israel's Defence Ministry authorised the call-up of roughly 60,000 reservists to help seize Gaza City.

"These two matters defeating Hamas and releasing all our hostages go hand in hand," Netanyahu said in a video statement, without providing details about what the next stage of talks would entail.

Mediators have been waiting for days for an official Israeli response to their latest ceasefire proposal, which Hamas accepted earlier this week.

Per an AFP report, the new deal involves staggered hostage releases, while Israel has insisted that any deal see all the captives freed at once.

Israel's plans to expand the fighting and seize Gaza City have sparked an international outcry as well as domestic opposition.

Hamas's October 2023 attack on Israel resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official figures.

Israel's offensive has killed more than 62,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to figures from the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza that the United Nations considers reliable.

Another UAV attack on the Russian trade mission in Sweden

August 22, 2025 16:32

A package of red paint was dropped on the site in front of the main entrance to the office building, occurred with the full connivance of the Swedish authorities.

Moscow demands that Stockholm strictly comply with its obligations under the Vienna Convention.

This is stated in the comments of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

"As we have repeatedly commented, such attacks by allegedly unidentified drones on objects of Russian diplomatic property in Sweden are systematic and occur with the full connivance (hopefully not with direct sanction) of the Swedish authorities, who cannot, and most likely simply do not want to bring the attackers to justice," the diplomat noted.

As Zakharova stressed, "for our part, we insist on the strict fulfillment by the Swedish authorities of the obligations of the host country in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 regarding the physical security and inviolability of Russian missions abroad."

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that "official Stockholm not only grossly violates its obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations to ensure the inviolability of foreign diplomatic missions, but also, apparently, is not able to monitor compliance with the provisions of domestic legislation."

She recalled that the decision of the Swedish Transport Authority established a no-fly zone over the territories of the Russian Embassy and Trade Mission in Sweden.

Drone attack destroys 16 trucks carrying UN food to Sudan’s famine-hit Darfur region

Updated 1:16 PM PDT, August 21, 2025

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — A drone attack on a U.N. convoy set fire to all 16 trucks carrying desperately needed food to Sudan’s famine-hit North Darfur region and destroyed all the vehicles, the United Nations said Thursday.

U.N. associate spokesperson Daniela Gross told reporters that all drivers and personnel traveling with the World Food Program convoy are safe.

Gross said it was not yet clear who was responsibility for Wednesday’s attack, the second in the past three months to prevent a U.N. convoy from delivering to North Dafur.

In early June, a convoy from the World Food Program and UNICEF was attacked while awaiting clearance to proceed to North Darfur’s besieged capital, el-Fasher, killing five people and injuring several others.

Sudan plunged into conflict in April 2023, when violence sparked by long-simmering tensions between its military and paramilitary leaders erupted in the capital, Khartoum, and spread to other regions, including western Darfur.

Some 40,000 people have been killed and nearly 13 million displaced, U.N. agencies say. Nearly 25 million people are experiencing acute hunger, Gross said.

The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and their allies announced in late June that they had formed a parallel government in areas they control, mainly in the vast Darfur region where allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity are being investigated.

The RSF has encircled el-Fasher, where the U.N. says people are facing starvation. It is the only capital the paramilitary forces don’t hold in Darfur, which is comprised of five states.

Over a year ago, famine was declared in the Zamzam displacement camp in North Darfur.

The risk of famine has since spread to 17 areas in Darfur and the Kordofan region, which is adjacent to North Darfur and west of Khartoum, the U.N. says.

CITY WARZONE At least 18 dead after drone blasts police helicopter out of the sky & car bomb explodes as violence erupts in Colombia

updated: 11:38, 22 Aug 2025

AT LEAST 18 people have died after a drone attack on a police helicopter and a car bomb in Colombia.

A vehicle filled with explosives blew up near a military aviation school earlier, killing five people and injuring more than 30, cops confirmed.

Meanwhile, authorities said at least 12 died in a drone attack on a helicopter carrying personnel to an area in Antioquia in northern Colombia.

Antioquia governor Andres Julian said a drone struck the helicopter as it flew over coca leaf crops.

According to some eyewitnesses, the car bomb in Cali hit the Marco Fidel Suarez Military Aviation School, killing locals and devastating houses.

One resident, who was nearby at the time, said they heard a "thunderous" sound of something exploding near the airbase.

Alejandro Eder, the region's mayor, ordered martial law for the city and has since announced a temporary ban on large trucks entering the area.

Terrifying footage shows vehicles charred from the crash as a mass of debris covers the ground.

Meanwhile, thick plumes of black smoke billow in a forested area in the country's north.

Defence Minister Pedro Sánchez referred to the car explosion as a "terrorist attack" and blamed the "the narco cartel alias Mordisco".

Posting online, he wrote: "This cowardly attack against civilians is a desperate reaction to the loss of control over drug trafficking in Valle del Cauca, Cauca, and Nariño, where the Public Force has neutralized much of this threat."

The attacks have been linked to different dissident factions of the now non-existent Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Farc) group.

Following the horrific assaults, the president and the military leadership announced they would lead a security council meeting to "define additional protection measures" for residents.

It comes as the country has suffered a rise in violence in recent months with drone attacks becoming increasingly more common.

Last year, 115 such attacks were recorded in Colombia, while last week three soldiers were killed in a drone strike in the country's south west.

China appears to be testing a new stealth flying-wing drone

7:00pm, 22 Aug 2025

A new Chinese flying-wing aircraft – possibly the CH-7 stealth drone or another new model seen recently on satellite imagery – could be undergoing test flights, an image circulating on social media suggests.

The photo, which could not be verified, shows the large aircraft in flight from the rear, its landing gear down and split rudders near the wing tips.

Its low-observable, flying-wing design combines the wings and fuselage, giving the aircraft a wide, flat appearance.

It is not known when or where the photo was taken and its low resolution makes it difficult to discern many details.

The aircraft bears some resemblance to the Rainbow CH-7 stealth reconnaissance drone, which is being developed by the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.

The CH-7 was expected to take its maiden flight some time this year.

However, military website The War Zone speculated that the aircraft in the photo could be the same one it earlier identified on satellite imagery from May at the Malan test base in China’s far western Xinjiang region.

That drone was much larger than the CH-7, with an estimated wingspan of about 50 metres (164 feet) – similar in size to the US B-2 Spirit bomber.

By comparison, the CH-7 has a wingspan of 27.3 metres (89.5 feet).

These new aircraft reflect China’s significant investment of resources to develop a range of flying-wing design drones in recent years, amid an ambitious push to modernise the People’s Liberation Army.

The CH-7 was unveiled in 2018 and has since gone through several design modifications. A ground taxiing test of its landing gear and control systems was conducted at the end of 2024.

It is what is known as a high-altitude, long-endurance aircraft and has a maximum take-off weight of 8 tonnes, a cruising speed of 0.5 Mach, a service ceiling of 16,000 metres and a maximum endurance of 16 hours, according to the most recent specifications.

The drone’s speed would not be fast enough for it to be a “loyal wingman” to the Chinese air force’s next-generation fighter jets.

Instead, it is designed for covert reconnaissance missions in high-risk areas such as long-range detection, surveillance and situational awareness, as well as target guidance for strike operations.

To do that, its design has been changed to improve stealth, upgrade its sensors and avionics, and expand its wingspan while reducing the aircraft’s weight. Its weapon bay was also eliminated.

The CH-7 has also been designed so that it can be used by the PLA’s aircraft carriers and landing helicopter dock ships, according to its developer.

A Sweeping Transformation Is Underway as the Grand Egyptian Museum Prepares to Officially Open and the Giza Plateau Braces for a Record-Breaking Influx of Visitors

August 22, 2025 2:16 p.m.

Until this past April, the gates of the Mena House Hotel—the de facto entrance to the Giza pyramids plateau since the late 19th century—were teeming with street vendors, tour brokers, horses and camels weaving among pedestrians.

Tourists weren’t always thrilled with the persistent peddlers, unless they were eyeing the papyrus, miniature pyramid models, garish masks of Tutankhamun and elusive busts of Nefertiti the sellers were hawking.

But now, all of this has been banned following the Egyptian government’s implementation of a longstanding plan to redevelop the pyramids area.

Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities created the original development plan in 2009, and then it joined forces with Orascom Pyramids Entertainment in 2018 to see the initiative through.

The area undergoing a revamp includes the Giza Plateau, where the three pyramids and the Sphinx are located, and the area around the new Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).

In April, the government announced the pilot launch of the pyramids area development project, leading to changes at the world’s most famous archaeological site.

The entrance was moved to the new Great Gate on Al-Faiyoum Desert Road southwest of Cairo, and street vendors and animal owners were confined to specific areas.

Despite what authorities view as a dire need to make those changes to enhance the visitor experience and minimize congestion at the only standing wonder of the ancient world, the development project faced opposition from a wide segment of those working in the tourism sector near the Great Pyramid. Objections came from tour guides, street vendors, and horse and camel handlers who say their livelihoods have been deeply affected, just as others welcomed the initiative as a step toward organizing the lucrative antiquities tourism industry.

In 2024, around 15.7 million tourists visited Egypt—a record figure, contributing about 8 percent of the country’s GDP. The government aims to attract 30 million visitors annually by 2032.

With the official opening of the much-lauded GEM, about a mile away, slated for November, the stakes are high, as many tourists will likely visit both the pyramids and the museum in single day.

The shifting character of the area has reshaped the local community’s daily life and work patterns. Orascom designated a specific route for tours whereby buses no longer have access to the plateau, in an effort to protect the antiquities from car pollution.

Tourists now disembark and ride air-conditioned hop-on hop-off electrical shuttle buses to the three main pyramids—Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure—and the Sphinx.

They are free to walk around near the landmarks, then go back to the same shuttle bus stop when they are ready to head back to their tour bus.

Tourism professionals have voiced strong objections to the changes. Hamdy Ezz, head of the Egyptian Tour Guides Syndicate, argues the system “reduces the tourists’ enjoyment of the sites and causes congestion at the new entrance.”

He criticizes authorities for failing to consult tourism institutions in the decision-making process.

Tour guide Hoda Radi expresses concern that the shared bus system “extends the duration of visits and restricts tourists to a fixed route, limiting their freedom to explore.”

She highlights practical problems: “The buses do not wait; they leave every few minutes, making it impractical for tourists to leave belongings while taking photos.”

Radi also questions the environmental justification, noting that huge concerts are held at the pyramids at night where private cars are allowed to drive up unrestricted. “These cars are not environmentally friendly,” she says.

Tour guide Ahmed Sabry agrees, arguing that mixing tourists from different countries who speak different languages in the shuttles is inconvenient for communication purposes.

“I used to offer the explanation to my group inside the private bus, but now that we’re forced to ride the shuttles, we must get off to address our group, and then get back on,” he says. “It’s exhausting.”

>>23496065

The development’s harshest impact, however, has fallen on traditional workers now banned from key areas right around the pyramids.

Sayed Ali, a 72-year-old horse carriage owner with 50 years’ experience, saw his income plummet after being restricted to what’s called the “exercise and panoramic viewing area” in the vicinity of the Pyramids, but not as close as where he could previously be.

Ali faces daily costs of around 300 Egyptian pounds ($6) to feed his horse while earning between $20 and $24 per day. Before these changes, he says he could earn double that amount.

According to Ali, violations can result in fines of 5,000 Egyptian pounds ($100) or more—a huge amount in a country facing significant economic challenges, including high inflation, currency devaluation against the U.S. dollar and a foreign exchange crunch.

These issues are compounded by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which is affecting trade through the Suez Canal.

“Horse feed prices have gone way up. And with the war on Gaza, the number of tourists has dropped,” Ali explains. While tours continue to operate in the Egyptian sightseeing hubs that are far from the fighting, some worried travelers are nevertheless rethinking their plans.

Ibrahim Mostafa, 48, a vendor who has worked at the pyramids for 20 years, says he has not been able to obtain good spots to sell his products since the start of the development.

“In the past, I could walk with my goods in front of the pyramids, which gave me a chance to showcase my products,” he says. “Now, opportunities for direct interaction with visitors are limited.”

Before the development, tourists often complained of exploitation and deceit by animal handlers, who would charge visitors twice—once to mount the horse or camel and again to get off—as well as charging triple for the rides and engaging in endless bargaining.

“These offenses,” says Ali, 73, one of the longest-serving workers in the area, “are individual acts, which should be punished because they tarnish Egypt’s image.”

While the development addresses these complaints about exploitation and creates a more organized tourist experience, in part by regulating ride pricing, it has fundamentally restructured the local economy, concentrating benefits for the development company while marginalizing traditional service providers who once formed the area’s economic backbone.

Despite professional criticism, many visitors praise the changes, which have almost erased the previous perception of chaotic entry and disorganized movement at the colossal site.

Just over a mile from the pyramids, visitors are already in awe of the world’s largest archaeological museum, the GEM, whose soft opening was just under a year ago in October 2024 and whose grand opening was postponed from early July to this fall because of regional instability.

Built across nearly 5,000,000 square feet, the museum greets visitors with the colossal 36-foot-tall red granite statue of Ramses II, which spent the latter half of the 20th century at the center of the eponymous Ramses Square, near Cairo’s main train station.

“It can take up to two whole days to fully enjoy a visit to the GEM,” says Magdy Shaker, chief archaeologist at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

Housing 100,000 artifacts, the museum also contains pieces on display for the first time.

“Notable items,” says Shaker, “include an ax estimated to be 700,000 years old found beneath a power station in the Abbasiya desert, two submerged statues from Alexandria of Ptolemaic kings and queens, and a column belonging to 19th Dynasty King Merneptah, son of Ramses II, discovered in the Matariya district."

He says the museum’s flagship collection, consisting of 5,340 items tied to 18th Dynasty King Tutankhamun, will be displayed in its entirety for the first time across two halls.

His tomb was discovered by British archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922.

Apart from King Tut’s iconic funerary mask, the collection includes items that were never shown before.

“There are the statues of his two daughters who died young; his sash; and the food, birds and flowers buried with him,” says Shaker, adding that the second boat of King Khufu (also known as Cheops, who is known to have commissioned the largest of the three Giza pyramids) is also being reassembled and will be displayed at the GEM.

The museum’s main galleries include 12 massive exhibition halls housing displays from Egypt’s various historical eras beginning in prehistoric times and the early dynasties through to the New Kingdom and the Greco-Roman periods.

“The artifacts in the galleries are displayed with meticulous care and lighting designed to highlight their features and illuminate their stories,” says Shaker.

Vendors and camel handlers are allowed nowhere near the GEM, and tour buses have specific parking slots in a huge lot on the premises.

At the entrance, visitors have a choice to go up a stepped staircase featuring statues and artifacts or an escalator, designed to provide a visual journey of the statues as visitors ascend to the upper level, where they can get a panoramic view of the three pyramids.

A bridge connecting the GEM to the pyramids and designed in an ancient Egyptian architectural style allows visitors to reach the structures either on foot or via electric vehicles, making the two sites a combined experience.

Outside the museum, roads and paths were paved to ease access to the pyramids, and a metro station is slated for construction near the museum. Sphinx International Airport, located west of Cairo, was built to reduce pressure on Cairo International Airport.

Mohamed Mahmoud, an economic researcher and member of the Egyptian Society for Political Economy and Legislation, says the development of the area will boost tourism revenues that are forecast to total $97 billion between 2025 and 2029, according to credit rating company Fitch Solutions.

“The higher revenues are directly attributed to the development plan that launched in the past two years,” says Mahmoud. Revenues in the tourism sector exceeded $15.3 billion in 2024, coinciding with the soft opening of the GEM and the overhaul of the pyramids plateau.

Fitch Solutions estimates revenues of $17.5 billion by the end of this year, and $18.6 billion in 2026.

The Louvre in France attracts about nine million visitors annually at a rate of 25,000 visitors daily, Mahmoud notes, while the GEM received approximately 1.5 million visitors in the trial period since October 2024 alone, at a rate of 5,000 visitors a day.

“The GEM is qualified to be among the most visited museums in the world and will attract large hard currency flows and contribute to creating thousands of job opportunities in vital sectors such as hotels, transportation and restaurants in Giza,” he adds.

Aya Ahmed, a 34-year-old mother of two who lives in Omraneya, approximately 3.5 miles southwest of the pyramids plateau and the GEM, describes the development as “a civilizational leap” that she and others had dreamed of in past decades, especially thanks to the newly constructed roads that facilitate movement and eliminate traffic congestion.

“The area is now organized and clean,” says Ahmed, who despite her proximity to the pyramids had only visited the ancient wonder twice before the recent changes.

“And the visits were not pleasant, but when I went back in May, the experience was entirely different,” she adds, noting the smooth access to the new museum and the beauty of the display of the artifacts.

“I will certainly go back,” she says.

Did the US really hide nine alien saucers at Area 51? Bob Lazar says yes!

Updated: Aug 22, 2025, 13:51 IST

Introduction: The Claim That Shook UFO History

In 1989, Bob Lazar went public with claims that forever changed the conversation around UFOs and Area 51.

Speaking in an interview with journalist George Knapp, Lazar alleged he had been employed at a secret military facility called S-4, located just south of Area 51.

What he claimed to have seen there was staggering: nine fully intact flying saucers of extraterrestrial origin, hidden away from the public.

The S-4 Facility: A Secret Within a Secret

Lazar described S-4 as a highly restricted base, built into the side of a mountain near Groom Lake. According to him, entry was tightly controlled, and scientists were compartmentalised, each allowed access only to the portion of the project directly related to their work.

He claimed that he was recruited to reverse-engineer alien propulsion systems, an assignment unlike anything found in conventional aerospace research.

Nine Alien Craft in Underground Hangars

The most sensational aspect of Lazar’s testimony was his description of nine saucer-shaped craft stored in underground hangars. He maintained that these craft varied in design but shared similar propulsion systems.

Some, he said, looked like the ‘classic flying saucers’ often reported in UFO sightings, while others appeared more unusual. Importantly, Lazar insisted these were not human-built prototypes, but genuine alien machines.

The Sport Model: Up-Close With a Saucer

Lazar claimed he had the opportunity to examine one of the craft more closely, nicknamed the 'Sport Model' due to its sleek design.

According to his account, the interior was built on a small scale, as though designed for beings smaller than humans.

He noted an absence of traditional controls such as buttons or dials. Instead, the craft relied on gravity-manipulating technology powered by Element 115, a substance unknown to science at the time.

Anti-Gravity Propulsion

Central to Lazar’s revelation was the idea that the saucers operated by bending space-time using a ‘gravity drive’.

He explained that instead of propulsion by thrust, the craft generated gravitational waves that allowed them to move instantaneously in any direction.

This would explain the erratic, high-speed manoeuvres often reported in UFO sightings, movements impossible for conventional aircraft.

Government Secrecy and Cover-Up

Lazar alleged that the US government had gone to great lengths to conceal the existence of these craft. He described a culture of secrecy at S-4, where scientists worked in isolation, forbidden from sharing information.

After he revealed what he had seen, Lazar claimed he was subjected to harassment and threats, which he argued were intended to silence him.

Legacy of the Nine Saucers

Whether true or not, Lazar’s description of nine alien craft hidden in Nevada remains one of the most explosive UFO claims ever made.

While sceptics point to the lack of physical evidence and inconsistencies in his background, supporters argue that details such as his early mention of Element 115, later synthesised by scientists decades after his claims, give his story weight.

The image of nine flying saucers locked away in secret hangars continues to fuel speculation about what might be hidden behind the fences of Area 51.

Inside the grainy 18-minute Roswell alien autopsy footage that shocked the world

Updated: 15:16 EDT, 22 August 2025

An 18-minute video of an alleged alien autopsy that sent the world into a frenzy decades ago has resurfaced as investigations into UFOs have reached a fever pitch.

The shocking film, showing three people in hazmat suits dissecting what appeared to be an alien body from the 1947 Roswell crash in New Mexico, was originally released in 1995.

The grainy black-and-white footage was televised worldwide, revealing a humanoid figure with a large head and dark eyes being cut open, further fueling the growing speculation of a government cover-up.

Millions of viewers were fascinated because the film seemed to prove that aliens existed, especially as shows like The X-Files were becoming a cultural phenomenon.

Years later, however, the film's producers admitted it was all a sophisticated hoax filmed in a London apartment using animal parts and plastic casts.

Despite their confession, questions remained, as one of the filmmakers behind the fake alien autopsy claimed the video was based on a real recording of scientists examining the remains of a dead extraterrestrial.

The film has now surged back into the public conversation about alien life, thanks to a new docuseries that is set to explore this mystery, diving into the video's creation 30 years ago and its lasting impact on UFO culture.

Meanwhile, there has been even more demand for answers over the last year, with elected officials even joining the call to declassify everything the government knows about UFO incidents like the Roswell crash.

British entrepreneur Ray Santilli released the 18-minute Roswell 'autopsy,' which aired on Fox as Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction on August 28, 1995.

According to British UFO researcher and author Philip Mantle, Santilli worked with filmmaker Spyros Melaris, who was the real genius behind the fake autopsy video.

In an interview for Mantle's book, Roswell Alien Autopsy - The Film That Shook the World, Melaris revealed the storyboards he used while planning out the elaborate hoax.

The props created for the film included more than just an alien body. Casts created to resemble UFO control panels, alien metals with an unknown language on them, and even extraterrestrial organs were all fabricated for the stunt.

In 1995, Santilli claimed the footage obtained from a retired US military cameraman, but the film was too degraded, so his team 'reconstructed' it.

More than a decade later, Santilli and co-producer Gary Shoefield admitted the footage was fake. They claimed it was a 'restoration' of a real film Santilli saw in 1992, but Mantle noted that proof of its existence has never been found.

'There has never been any authentic film of an alien autopsy. Ray Santilli promised a number of people a piece of the film for analysis, but it never happened,' Mantle told the Daily Mail.

>>23496120

Mantle revealed that Spyros had a collection of research files, drawings, and even a diary, all of which supported the conclusion that there was never an actual alien autopsy that the producers used as inspiration.

The US government has continued to maintain that there was no alien spacecraft at Roswell in 1947. In 1997, an Air Force report by intelligence officer James McAndrew found no evidence of alien autopsies or UFOs at the site.

The military claimed the debris came from a balloon tied to Project Mogul, a classified surveillance program. However, multiple UFO researchers have continued to challenge the military's story about this incident.

Dr Hal Puthoff, a physicist who worked on the government's UFO research programs, recently revealed that the military not only recovered a crashed UFO from Roswell, but they had at least 10 such craft in their possession.

On the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Puthoff noted that one of his colleagues, Dr Eric Davis, spoke to the commander of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, where the debris from the Roswell incident was allegedly flown, and they confirmed that the UFO crash really happened.

'Something crashed at Roswell in 1947, and even the US government accepted that. Some UFO researchers still claim it was an alien spacecraft that crashed but there is no physical evidence or documentation to prove this,' Mantle noted.

As for the bodies, Mantle said that the US government has claimed they were dummies used for testing parachutes as part of Project Mogul.

Decades after the 1995 autopsy hoax, new claims of alien bodies have recently emerged, including the alleged discovery of alien mummies in Peru.

These unusual remains, notable for having three fingers and three toes, have sparked wild speculation, especially among UFO researchers and conspiracy theorists.

However, Mantle suspected that the public was again being fooled by an elaborate alien hoax. 'Sadly, a lot of people have not learnt their lesson,' he said. Despite the skepticism, Congress is not taking the issue lightly.

The Trump Administration has already charged Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna with investigating the many claims of extraterrestrial encounters over the years and declassifying whatever proof is found.

Is the Latest UFO Buzz a Prelude to the Great End-Times Deception?

Aug 22, 2025

A rare interstellar object has entered our solar system, and while some scientists are scrambling to explain it, prophecy experts warn that the public is being primed for one of the greatest spiritual deceptions of the end times.

Harvard Physicist Raises Alarming Possibility

Earlier this month, Harvard physicist Avi Loeb made headlines for suggesting a newly discovered interstellar object might not be a natural body at all.

The object, named 3I/ATLAS, was first detected in July by an ATLAS telescope in Chile and is only the third such visitor to be observed entering our solar system.

NASA classified it as a comet, but Loeb challenged that idea, noting its strange glow. “An image showed an unexpected glow in front of the object rather than trailing behind it, something he called ‘quite surprising,’” Fox News reported.

Loeb wrote in a blog post that the object’s light emission doesn’t match sunlight reflection or normal cometary gas release.

“Alternatively, 3I/ATLAS could be a spacecraft powered by nuclear energy, and the dust emitted from its frontal surface might be from dirt that accumulated on its surface during its interstellar travel,” he said.

While he stressed that more evidence is needed, Loeb left the door open: “If it turns out to be technological, it would obviously have a big impact on the future of humanity. We have to decide how to respond to that.”

L.A. Marzulli: UFOs and the Great Deception

For author and researcher L.A. Marzulli, these developments are no surprise. He has long warned that UFOs will play a key role in the Great Deception the Bible foretells.

“UFOs are real, burgeoning, and not going away,” Marzulli told Charisma Media. “This is the coming great deception. However, when we go up, they come down. When we go up, they show up. And I think it might be sooner than any of us think.”

Marzulli emphasized that the only way to properly interpret what is happening in the skies is through the lens of Scripture.

“The biblical prophetic narrative is the only tome on the planet that has this thread of prophetic literature from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation. And it calls events out with great specificity,” he said.

Quoting Jesus’ warnings in Matthew 24, Marzulli reminded believers of the repeated caution: “Do not be deceived. Do not be deceived. Do not be deceived.”

Conditioning the World

Marzulli ties the surge of UFO sightings to prophetic milestones. He pointed to 1947’s Roswell event happening just one year before the rebirth of Israel in 1948. “1948, Israel becomes a nation…

Well, 1948, the whole UFO thing just takes off like this. It’s unbelievable,” he said. From abductions to congressional testimony about “non-human biologics,” Marzulli believes disclosure is being rolled out gradually to condition the public.

“They’re preparing us for something,” he said, citing whistleblower David Grusch’s claims before Congress.

The Bible’s Warning

Unlike Loeb, who speculates about nuclear-powered spaceships, Marzulli insists that these are not extraterrestrial craft but interdimensional entities consistent with biblical accounts of fallen angels and demonic deception.

“These are interdimensional entities with a very nefarious agenda,” he said, pointing to Daniel 2:43 about their seed mingling with the seed of men.

He warns that even the rapture of the church has already been explained away by occult sources. “There’s coming a moment in time where many people will be gone on an afternoon.

They’ll leave the planet… because they do not belong here anymore,” Marzulli explained . He added, “That’s how the other side will explain the rapture of the church. And it’s already in print.”

The Need for Discernment

While the scientific world speculates about comet fragments and nuclear propulsion, believers must be grounded in the Word of God. Scripture makes it clear that deception will mark the last days.

Paul wrote in 2 Thessalonians 2:9–10 that the coming of the lawless one will be “in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie.”

Marzulli’s bottom line is urgent: the church must wake up. “This is manifesting. This will, when they show up, change everything that we know. And that’s alarming,” he said.

Look Up, Stay Rooted

Whether it is framed as a comet, a nuclear craft or something unexplainable, events like 3I/ATLAS should remind us of Jesus’ words in Luke 21:28: “When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

The world may be preparing for alien contact, but the Bible tells us what is truly happening. End-times deception is rising, but the truth remains: Jesus Christ is coming again, and His Word will never be silenced.
