Fishing for the Moon

How big is planet Earth's Moon? Compared to other moons of the Solar System, it's number 5 on the largest to smallest ranked list, following Jupiter's moon Ganymede, Saturn's moon Titan, and Jovian moons Callisto and Io. Continuing the list, the Moon comes before Jupiter's Europa and Neptune's Triton. It's also larger than dwarf planets Pluto and Eris. With a diameter of 3,475 kilometers the Moon is about 1/4 the size of Earth though, and that does make it the largest moon when compared to the size of its parent Solar System planet. Of course in this serene, twilight sea and skyscape, August's rising Full Moon still appears small enough to be caught in the nets of an ancient fishing rig. The telephoto snapshot was taken along the Italian Costa dei Trabocchi, on the Adriatic Sea.

Crew Awaits Dragon Cargo Mission and Keeps Up Human Research

August 22, 2025

The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with the Dragon cargo craft atop has rolled out to its launch pad at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida counting down to a launch targeted for no earlier than 2:45 a.m.

on Sunday. Dragon is scheduled to dock to the International Space Station’s forward port on the Harmony module at 7:30 a.m. on Monday delivering over 5,000 pounds of science, supplies, and hardware to the Expedition 73 crew.

NASA+ will begin its launch coverage at 2:25 a.m. on Sunday. Docking coverage begins at 6 a.m. on Monday.

NASA Flight Engineers Mike Fincke and Jonny Kim will be on duty on Monday monitoring Dragon’s automated approach and rendezvous.

Fincke will be the first one to open Dragon’s hatch after it docks and enter the vehicle beginning four months of Dragon cargo operations.

He and Kim joined fellow flight engineers Zena Cardman of NASA and Kimiya Yui of JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) on Friday and reviewed Dragon’s mission profile and the variety of cargo they will unpack and stow inside the space station.

Meanwhile, the orbital residents kept up their human research on Friday exploring how weightlessness affects the heart, muscle, and bone systems.

Spacesuit work and lab maintenance rounded out the crew’s schedule at the end of the week.

Kim worked throughout the day inside the Columbus laboratory module on biomedical science operations for the CIPHER investigation.

The former Navy SEAL called down to doctors on the ground who monitored as he attached electrodes to his chest and scanned his thigh artery with an ultrasound device.

The data will give doctors an insight into an astronaut’s cardiovascular system helping improve health monitoring tools and protecting crews traveling farther and living longer in space.

Fincke set up high-definition cameras and a motion capture system inside the Tranquility module that would record his workout on the advanced resistive exercise device (ARED), hardware that mimics free weights on Earth.

The exercise research is for the ARED Kinematics investigation that observes the stresses that an astronaut’s muscles and bones experience during a workout in microgravity.

Results may lead to improved exercise programs in space and safer training and better rehabilitation procedures on Earth.

Cardman and Yui took the morning off on Friday before wrapping up their workweek with science and maintenance duties.

Cardman first took a robotics test on a computer for the portion of the CIPHER study that measures cognition, or space-caused changes to her brain structure and function.

Next, she installed high-definition cameras that Fincke had serviced the day before on to a spacesuit helmet.

Yui swapped fuel bottles for combustion research in the Kibo laboratory module then stowed the ARED hardware Fincke used earlier during his exercise investigation.

Station Commander Sergey Ryzhikov and Flight Engineer Alexey Zubritsky, both from Roscosmos, took turns studying how microgravity affects the cells that line the interior of the blood vessels and how blood flows into tiny vessels.

The duo then split up inventorying space station tools and cleaning ventilation systems throughout the orbiting lab’s Roscosmos segment.

Roscosmos Flight Engineer Oleg Platonov began his shift at the end of the week downloading Earth imagery of Southeast Asian and Australian landmarks captured automatically during the crew’s sleep shift.

He then spent the rest of his day inside the Nauka science module replacing orbital plumbing gear.

Watch Rocket Lab launch 5 satellites on mystery mission today

August 23, 2025

Rocket Lab will launch five mystery spacecraft today (Aug. 23), and you can watch the action live.

An Electron rocket carrying the satellite quintet is scheduled to lift off from Rocket Lab's New Zealand site today at 6:30 p.m. EDT (2230 GMT; 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 24 local New Zealand time).

You can watch it live via Rocket Lab, and Space.com will carry the company's feed if (as expected) it's made available. Coverage will begin 30 minutes before liftoff.

Today's mission, which Rocket Lab calls "Live, Laugh, Launch," will send five satellites to a circular orbit 413 miles (665 kilometers) above Earth.

That's pretty much all we know about the flight, which is veiled in secrecy; it's the second of two contracted missions that Electron will launch for a confidential customer, according to the company.

"Live, Laugh, Launch" will be the 12th launch of 2025 and 70th overall for Electron, a 59-foot-tall (18 meters) rocket that gives small satellites dedicated rides to Earth orbit and beyond.

Rocket Lab is also developing a larger, partially reusable vehicle called Neutron, which is expected to debut before the year is out.

https://www.space.com/astronomy/1st-of-its-kind-quadruple-star-system-could-reveal-secrets-of-failed-star-brown-dwarfs

1st-of-its-kind quadruple star system could reveal secrets of 'failed star' brown dwarfs

August 23, 2025

A rare quadruple star system that is the first of its kind to be discovered by astronomers could help better understand so-called "failed stars" or brown dwarfs.

These celestial bodies get their unfortunate nickname from the fact that, despite forming like a standard star, they "fail" to gather enough mass to trigger the nuclear fusion of hydrogen to helium in their cores, the process that defines what a star is.

Brown dwarfs are somewhat mysterious because it is difficult to track how their characteristics change as they age.

This system, designated UPM J1040−3551 AabBab and located around 82 light-years from Earth, is an extremely rare hierarchical quadruple star system containing a pair of cold brown dwarfs that orbit a pair of young red dwarf stars.

The two pairs of binary stellar bodies are separated by 1,656 times the distance between Earth and the sun, meaning that it takes over 100,000 Earth-years to complete an orbit.

The team discovered the nature of UPM J1040−3551 AabBab using the European Space Agency (ESA) star tracking spacecraft Gaia and NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) to measure the angular velocity of its components.

This allowed them to see that Aab (the stellar pair Aa and Ab) and Bab (the brown dwarf pair Ba and Bb) are moving towards the same direction with the same angular velocity.

"What makes this discovery particularly exciting is the hierarchical nature of the system, which is required for its orbit to remain stable over a long time period," team leader and Nanjing University researcher Zenghau Zhang said in a statement.

"These two pairs of objects are orbiting each other separately for periods of decades, while the pairs are also orbiting a common centre of mass over a period of more than 100,000 years."

Decoding a very rare star system

Even though the stars of Aab are the brightest components of this quadruple star system, they are still so faint that to be visible with the naked eye, these red dwarfs would have to be no more than 1.5 light-years from Earth.

Emitting little to no visible light, the pair of brown dwarfs Bab is around 1,000 times fainter than their parent binary red dwarfs and can only be observed in infrared.

Despite their faint nature, it was the unusual relative brightness of the red dwarf binary (Aab) compared to other red dwarfs, in addition to a wobble in the center of light between the stars, that initially hinted that this is a close stellar binary and not a single star.

The brown dwarf pairing of Bab was also "decoded" thanks to its unusual brightness compared to other "typical" solo failed stars.

The nature of the four components of UPM J1040−3551 AabBab was confirmed by spectroscopy performed for Aab using optical light using the Goodman spectrograph on the Southern Astrophysical Research (SOAR) Telescope at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile.

The nature of Bab was confirmed in infrared light with the aid of SOAR's TripleSpec instrument.

>>23499132

"These observations were challenging due to the faintness of the brown dwarfs," Navarete said.

"But the capabilities of SOAR allowed us to collect the crucial spectroscopic data needed to understand the nature of these objects."

This analysis revealed both components of the red dwarf pairing Aab have masses around 17% that of the sun, with temperatures of around 5,300 degrees Fahrenheit (2,900 degrees Celsius).

Meanwhile, the brown dwarfs of Bab have masses of between 10 to 30 times that of Jupiter (0.01 to 0.03 times the mass of the mass) with temperatures of between 1,020 degrees Fahrenheit (550 degrees Celsius) and 788 degrees Fahrenheit (420 degrees Celsius).

This makes these two failed stars rare examples of T-type brown dwarfs.

"This is the first quadruple system ever discovered with a pair of T-type brown dwarfs orbiting two stars," team member MariCruz Gálvez-Ortiz of the Center for Astrobiology in Spain said. "The discovery provides a unique cosmic laboratory for studying these mysterious objects."

This is because brown dwarfs cool as they age, which changes their properties. This process depends on the mass of the brown dwarf, leading to a challenge in the understanding of these objects called the "age-mass degeneracy problem."

That means a brown dwarf of a set temperature could be a young, less massive object, or an older, more massive failed star.

Without additional information, astronomers can't determine which of these possibilities is correct. But that information could be available if the brown dwarf has an associated failed star companion.

"Brown dwarfs with wide stellar companions whose ages can be determined independently are invaluable at breaking this degeneracy as age benchmarks," explained Professor Hugh Jones, of the University of Hertfordshire, a co-author of the research paper.

"UPM J1040−3551 is particularly valuable because H-alpha emission [created when an electron falls from the third lowest to second lowest energy level] from the brighter pair indicates the system is relatively young, between 300 million and 2 billion years old."

The team behind this discovery believes that the study of the Bab brown dwarf binary in UPM J1040−3551 Aab Bab could be bolstered in the future when high-resolution imaging has progressed enough to enable precise measurements of their orbital motion and masses.

"This system offers a dual benefit for brown dwarf science," team member Adam Burgasser, of the University of California, San Diego, said.

"It can serve as an age benchmark to calibrate low-temperature atmosphere models, and as a mass benchmark to test evolutionary models if we can resolve the brown dwarf binary and track its orbit."

Russia seeking reset in ties with US – Putin

22 Aug, 2025 19:30

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that his talks with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, during the recent Alaska summit were frank and substantive, and expressed hope that the first steps taken by the two countries could pave the way for a full restoration of relations.

The two presidents met in Anchorage last week in what was their first face-to-face encounter since 2018. Both described the talks as constructive and warm and said they had made progress toward a Ukraine peace deal.

Putin said that with Trump’s arrival in the White House, “a light at the end of the tunnel” had appeared for restoring ties.

He added that he hoped Trump’s leadership qualities would help secure further progress and that the first steps already taken were “only the beginning of a full-scale revival of our relations.”

Trump’s leadership offers a “strong guarantee that our relations will improve,” Putin noted, adding that he hoped their “joint work would continue.”

The Russian president stressed, however, that the progress does not depend on Moscow alone, pointing out that Washington remains bound by obligations to organizations such as NATO. The next steps, he said, rest with the US leadership.

Russia doing everything possible to stop Ukraine war – Putin

22 Aug, 2025 19:30

Russia is doing everything possible to put an end to the Ukraine conflict, which started when Kiev began to attack the civilian population of Donbass in 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said.

Moscow does not see countries as “unfriendly,” but rather sees “unfriendly elites” in certain nations, he said on Friday during a meeting with young scientists at the nuclear center in the town of Sarov.

“Propaganda there works, of course. They brainwash people and say that we started the war,” he said.

“They forget that they themselves started the war in 2014, when they began using tanks and aircraft against the civilian population of Donbass,” Putin said.

Putin has previously said that one of the core reasons Russia began its special military operation in 2022 was to protect the populations of Donbass from “genocide perpetrated by the Kiev regime.”

Moscow had long accused Kiev of attacking civilians in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, which moved to cede from Ukraine following the Western-backed Maidan coup in 2014.

Both republics, as well as Kherson and Zaporozhye Regions, overwhelmingly voted to join Russia in September 2022. Crimea voted to rejoin Russia shortly after the coup, in 2014.

Putin has engaged with US President Donald Trump’s peace efforts, meeting him for a face-to-face summit in Alaska last week.

According to Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, Moscow has agreed to “show flexibility” regarding a number of issues that the US president raised at the summit.

However, despite Trump bringing up his proposals with Vladimir Zelensky and his Western European sponsors at a later meeting, the Ukrainian leader has “said no to everything,” Lavrov told NBC on Friday.

Ukrainian officials have shown that they are “not interested in a sustainable, fair, long-term settlement,” he said a day earlier.

Zelensky ready to discuss territory with Putin – Kiev

23 Aug, 2025 10:01

Ukraine is ready to discuss its territorial dispute with Russia at direct talks between Vladimir Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, a senior Ukrainian foreign ministry official has said, adding that the current frontline should be the starting point for the negotiations.

In an interview with NBC News on Friday, Ukraine’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Kislitsa reiterated that the country’s population “is categorically against trading our land for peace.”

“I think President Zelensky made it very clear he’s ready to sit down with President Putin and discuss it, and the beginning of the conversations on the territorial issue is the contact line that is currently there,” he said.

While publicly the Ukrainian leader has rejected the idea of any territorial concessions to Russia, several media reports claimed that he could agree to freeze the current front lines as part of a possible settlement.

Kislitsa also weighed in on the issue of Western security guarantees to Ukraine, noting that US officials are “working very hard” to draft an agreement.

“Ideally, we may have the first draft sometime early next week, and then… the political leadership has to decide how we do work with these drafts,” he added.

His comments followed reports that European nations are likely to provide “the lion’s share” of any forces involved in security guarantees, while the US could potentially take over the overall command.

Moscow has not ruled out security guarantees for Kiev but also maintains that any deployment of Western troops to Ukraine is out of the question.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that Moscow could agree to direct talks with Zelensky, but before any meeting could take place, “all issues that require top-level deliberations should be worked through.”

Russia ready to ‘show flexibility’ on Trump’s Ukraine proposals – Lavrov

22 Aug, 2025 18:46

Moscow has agreed to consider a number of US President Donald Trump’s proposals to resolve the Ukraine conflict, but Vladimir Zelensky has rejected them all, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with NBC News on Friday.

Trump put forward the initiatives following his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last week, Lavrov said.

“President Trump suggested after Anchorage several points which we share, and on some of them we agreed to show some flexibility,” Lavrov told NBC.

According to the top diplomat, Trump brought up the proposals in his meeting with Zelensky and some of his Western European backers in Washington on Monday.

Lavrov added that the Ukrainian leader has also refused to rescind “legislation prohibiting the Russian language.”

“Putin is ready to meet with Zelensky when the agenda would be ready for a summit,” he said, but added that as things stand, “there is no meeting planned.”

Trump suggested that the next stage of peace negotiations should be a one-on-one meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian leaders before a potential trilateral peace summit. Zelensky “has to show some flexibility,” he told Fox News on Tuesday.

On Thursday, however, Lavrov said that Kiev is showing no interest in a sustainable peace with Moscow.

He pointed to statements made by Zelensky aide Mikhail Podoliak, who said that Ukraine would seek to regain any territories “de facto” left to Russia in a peace deal, and that Kiev would seek to join a military alliance, if not NATO.

According to Lavrov, these goals are at odds with the joint peace efforts being undertaken by Putin and Trump.

Moscow has long insisted on a peace agreement that eradicates the underlying causes of the conflict.

It has demanded that Ukraine maintain neutrality, stay out of NATO and other military alliances, demilitarize and denazify, as well as accept the new territorial reality.

Trump vows ‘very important decision’ on Ukraine soon

22 Aug, 2025 20:56

US President Donald Trump said on Friday he will announce a major decision on the Ukraine conflict within the next two weeks, adding that the step will depend on the positions of both Moscow and Kiev.

Trump has been pressing for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky since meeting them in Alaska and Washington respectively.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said: “I think over the next two weeks, we’re going to find out which way it’s going to go.”

Asked about the time frame, he explained he expects clarity soon on whether Russia and Ukraine will engage in direct talks. “We’re going to see whether or not they have a meeting …

But I’ll know in two weeks what I’m going to do. It’s going to be a very important decision.”

Trump said he would then decide whether to impose “massive sanctions” or tariffs, or “do nothing and say it’s your fight.”

The US president previously suggested a possible three-way summit could follow a Putin-Zelensky meeting, adding that the Ukrainian leader “has to show some flexibility.”

On Thursday, however, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said Kiev has shown no interest in a sustainable peace.

He cited comments from Zelensky aide Mikhail Podoliak, who said Ukraine will seek to regain any territories “de facto” left to Russia in a peace deal and pursue joining a military alliance, even if not NATO.

Lavrov said these goals run counter to the joint peace efforts being undertaken by Putin and Trump.

Moscow has long insisted on a peace agreement that eradicates the underlying causes of the conflict. It has demanded that Ukraine maintain neutrality, stay out of NATO and other military blocs, demilitarize and denazify, as well as accept the new territorial reality.

Ukrainian drones strike two railway hubs in Russia, 40 trains delayed

23.08.2025 14:45

Russian sources confirmed that on the night of August 23, Ukrainian drones struck two railway infrastructure facilities in southern Russia, in the Rostov and Volgograd regions, resulting in delays for nearly 40 trains.

This was reported by The Moscow Times with reference to Russian Railways (RZD), according to Ukrinform.

It is noted that in the Rostov region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the Rossosh–Sokhranovka railway section for the second time in a week.

According to RZD, the Sergeyevka station was damaged, where “the operation of the contact network was disrupted.”

“As a result of the raid, the movement of 38 trains was delayed (up to 3 hours 40 minutes),” the statement said.

According to Rostov Governor Yuriy Slyusar, Ukrainian UAVs “were shot down in the Chortkovsky (where Sokhranovka is located), Sholokhovsky, and Millerovsky districts.”

“Due to the fall of drone fragments, several fires broke out but were promptly extinguished. No one was injured,” the regional head wrote on Telegram.

It is reported that the Volgograd region was also targeted. In the city of Petrov Val, a fire broke out near a jewelry store opposite the local railway station following the raid, residents said.

According to them, windows were shattered in nearby residential buildings.

Petrov Val is a hub station on the Privolzhskaya Railway with 18 tracks and a locomotive depot of the same name, the publication notes.

As reported by Ukrinform, on July 29, logistics infrastructure in the Rostov region supporting the front was attacked.

On August 21, drones targeted the Novoshakhtinsk oil products plant in the Rostov region, causing a fire at the facility.

Ukraine’s FPV Drones Blow Up Bridges in Russia’s Belgorod Region, Cutting Key Supply Lines

Updated Aug 23, 2025 17:42

Ukrainian drone operators have destroyed two bridges in Russia’s Belgorod region that were used by Russian forces for logistics.

According to the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade, the first bridge was targeted near Krasnyi Khutir, a settlement close to the Ukrainian border in Kharkiv region.

The operation was carried out by the brigade’s fire support company using drones supplied by the company ODIN.

For the strike, engineers placed TM-62 anti-tank mines under the bridge supports. An FPV drone ODIN 10 then hit the charges, triggering an explosion that rendered the crossing unusable.

Ukrainian officials noted that the loss of the bridge complicated Russian supply routes along the border area.

A second bridge in the region was destroyed using the same method. In this case, Raptor Drone systems were used, and the company later released video footage of the operation.

The drones acted as detonators for large charges of anti-tank mines placed under the structure, ensuring its destruction.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Air Force struck Russian bridges and pontoon crossings near Zvanoe in the Kursk region, using US-supplied JDAM-ER and GBU-39 bombs.

The attacks disrupted routes used to move military equipment, forcing Russia to divert resources to restore logistics.

IDF intercepts Houthi drone that triggered sirens along southern Egyptian border

Updated: AUGUST 23, 2025 07:59

The IDF intercepted a Houthi drone that triggered sirens along Israel's border with Egypt on Friday, the military said, after making several attempts.

The drone triggered sirens in Bnei Netzarim, Neveh, Talmei Yosef, Dekel, Mivtahim, the Yesha moshav, Amioz, Sde Nitzan, and Ein Habesor.

The IDF must respond to the Houthis' terrorism, a security source told Walla last week.

"There is a series of events and actions that require a response, and the chief of staff is advancing this issue consistently," the source said.

IDF Intelligence Directorate has long expanded its data collection activities on the Houthis in Yemen, Walla reported. These issues were also discussed with the US Central Command.

Strike on Haziaz power station in Sanaa

The IDF on Sunday struck the Haziaz power station in Sanaa that was used by the Houthis in Yemen, in response to repeated attacks by Houthis against Israel and Israeli civilians, including launching surface-to-surface missiles and drones toward Israeli territory.

Senior Houthi leaders were at the power station at the time of the strike, British news outlet The Telegraph reported.

The Houthis have launched over 320 drones at Israel since the start of the terror organization's assault on the Jewish State after Hamas's October 7 massacre in 2023.

At least 34 said killed by IDF in Gaza; hospital preps for Gaza City evacuation orders

August 23, 2025 6:03 pm

Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip killed at least 34 people on Saturday, according to Palestinian media, as a major hospital in southern Gaza prepared for imminent Israel Defense Forces evacuation orders of Gaza City, ahead of its planned offensive to conquer the metropolis.

The death toll in Gaza was not independently verified and does not differentiate between combatants and civilians.

Israel has yet to launch its planned major offensive to capture the enclave’s largest city, but according to local aid workers, there has been a marked increase in Israeli bombardments since the beginning of August.

According to the reports, six of the people killed died while waiting for aid in the Zikim area of the northern Gaza Strip; two were killed in a drone strike on a tent in Khan Younis, and one was killed in a drone strike on a house in al-Sabra, south of Gaza City.

According to health officials at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Israeli strikes killed at least 14 people in southern Gaza, more than half of them women and children.

The officials said the strikes targeted tents sheltering displaced people in Khan Younis.

Mohamed Saada was among thousands of people who sought food from a delivery in the Zikim area on Saturday, and one of many who left empty-handed.

“I came here to bring food for my children, but couldn’t get anything, due to the huge numbers of people and the difficulty of the situation between the shootings and the trucks running over people,” he said.

The IDF has acknowledged firing warning shots at crowds that get too close to its soldiers at aid distribution sites in Gaza, but has called the death tallies exaggerated, though it hasn’t provided alternate numbers.

“The entire Gaza Strip is being bombed … In the south. In the north. Everywhere,” Abu Agala, uncle of two children killed, told The Associated Press.

Another grieving relative, Hekmat Foujo, pleaded for a truce. “We want to rest,” Foujo said through her tears. ‘’Have some mercy on us.”

The IDF has yet to comment on reported strikes on Saturday.

Aid group Doctors without Borders, or MSF, said its clinics around Gaza City are seeing high numbers of patients as people flee. Caroline Willemen, MSF project coordinator in the city, noted a marked increase in airstrikes since early August.

“Those who have not moved are wondering what they should do,” she told the AP. “People want to stay; they have been displaced endlessly before, but they also know that at some point, it will become very dangerous to remain.”

Southern hospital preps for evacuees

Palestinians on Saturday began to clean up and renovate the European Hospital in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, as part of preparations for the evacuation of Gaza City ahead of the IDF’s planned offensive in the area.

The planned campaign has sparked a major international outcry, with governments and humanitarian groups warning of potentially disastrous consequences for Gaza’s civilians, noting widespread malnutrition that has recently worsened significantly amid the 22-month war.

Earlier this week, the IDF said that the European Hospital, which was closed after the military raided and sealed a Hamas tunnel running underneath it, was slated to resume operations to accommodate the expected influx of people fleeing northern Gaza.

On Thursday, Israeli authorities warned medical facilities and international organizations in the northern Gaza Strip to gear up for mass evacuation.

According to the IDF, Gazan medical officials were told that “the hospital infrastructures in the southern Gaza Strip are being adapted for the absorption of the sick and wounded, alongside an increased entry of necessary medical equipment in accordance with the requests of the international aid organizations.”

A security official said the UN and international aid groups were formulating a plan to restart the hospital “as an additional medical response” for the estimated one million Palestinians who are set to be displaced from Gaza City when the IDF launches its offensive there.

The military also warned medical officials in northern Gaza to prepare to move their equipment to hospitals in the Strip’s south.

Footage published by Palestinian media on Friday showed medical staff cleaning up the hospital, as well as an excavator at work in the compound, after the IDF allowed them to enter the area.

On May 13, Hamas’s then-leader in Gaza, Mohammed Sinwar, and other top commanders in the terror group were killed in an airstrike on a tunnel running underneath the hospital.

The military raided the medical facility in June, capturing their bodies and sealing the tunnel underneath it with concrete.

Sinwar, a senior Hamas military commander, was the younger brother of the former Hamas leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, who was also killed by the IDF during the ongoing war.

The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says more than 62,000 people in the Strip have been killed or are presumed dead in the fighting so far, though the toll cannot be verified and does not differentiate between civilians and fighters.

Israel says it has killed over 22,000 combatants in battle as of August and another 1,600 terrorists inside Israel during the October 7 onslaught.

Israel has said it seeks to minimize civilian fatalities and stresses that Hamas uses Gaza’s civilians as human shields, fighting from civilian areas including homes, hospitals, schools, and mosques.

Israel’s toll in the ground offensive against Hamas in Gaza and in military operations along the border with the Strip stands at 459.

Israeli tanks have reportedly advanced into the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City.

Al Jazeera airs footage purportedly showing IDF tanks in the Sabra neighborhood, which is located in the central part of Gaza City, close to the Zeitoun neighborhood, where the military has been operating for over a week.

The IDF has said it is operating on the outskirts of Gaza City ahead of a major offensive that would see the military capture the entire city.

Tens of thousands of reservists are due to show up for duty on September 2 for the offensive, which is likely to begin in the following weeks.

Drone temporarily grounds early Flat Fire air attack. More resources are on the way

August 22, 2025

PRINEVILLE, Ore. – With Madras Airport hosting the Airshow of the Cascades, air power to fight the Flat Fire is also coming locally from other local airports, including Prineville.

Fire officials are also reminding the public to keep their drones out of the fire area.

Krisen Bowles, Public Information Officer for the Flat Fire, said the unknown drone on Thursday forced officials to ground is air attack, which was not ideal for firefighters on the ground.

“Just a reminder for people to please not fly drones around fires because if our air resources can’t fly, that takes out an entire element of our firefighting resources,” Bowles said.

Bowles said more air resources may be moved to Madras after the airshow ends Saturday.

Gov. Tina Kotek has invoked the Conflagration Act, giving the state fire marshal quicker access to resources to attack the fire.

“We have additional resources coming in to help with that, and we just ask that people continue to be conscious of their surroundings and to be careful with fire,” Bowles said.

Autonomous Aircraft Are About To Achieve The Pinnacle Of Their Usefulness: Delivering Burritos

Updated August 22, 2025 6:36 PM EDT

The beauty of technology is that it makes our lives easier, and I think we may have reached the pinnacle of technology.

Move over printing press: drone-delivered burritos are here… in the Dallas area.

I don't know about where you live, but where I live in Central Florida, it was recently announced that Walmart would start doing some deliveries by drone soon. Now the only thing I've wanted to do for weeks is test that out.

That is, until I learned that Chipotle is kicking the tires on air-mailing you a burrito (or if you're trying to cut a few carbs like this hombre, a bowl).

According to ABC News, the burrito-slinging chain has announced a new partnership with drone delivery company Zipline that will allow hungry folks in the Dallas area to get their food delivered via autonomous aircraft.

The service can be ordered through the Zipline app with the drones — known as Zips — shuttling the food between the restaurant and your door.

I'm in. I love this, and not just because I don't have to tip a drone… but I still have some reservations.

First of all, imagine the excitement of squinting out your window at the horizon and seeing the drone approaching.

On a smaller scale, that must be how the dude in the crow's nest of the Pinta felt when he saw North America.

Part of me also wonders if flying through the air might improve a burrito's taste. I doubt it, but I would test this hypothesis in the name of science.

But my concerns have to do with this going wrong. I'd feel like such an ass if the drone delivering my burrito clipped a power line and cut power to my entire neighborhood.

I can just picture neighbors glaring at me as I sheepishly walk my burrito back into my now-powerless house.

"I hope that Chipotle tastes good, douche! Now I've got to go to Starbucks to take a meeting."

I think the folks at Zipline thought of this because the drone reportedly hovers over your place at 300 feet and lowers your food to avoid obstacles.

So, your food gets delivered by drone, and it does it like it's a high-stakes Navy SEAL mission.

What an experience. Hopefully, this goes national soon.

UAP Reporting Center

@UAPReportingCnt

The September 9th UAP Hearing: Could This Be the Moment Disclosure Finally Breaks Open?

The countdown is on. On September 9th, Congress will hold another hearing on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena and speculation is swirling about just how significant this one could be.

What makes this hearing different? It all comes down to the witness list.

If the rumors are true, at least one witness could come directly from inside legacy crash-retrieval or reverse-engineering programs.

Others may be military officers who’ve had direct encounters with UAPs- people whose credibility cannot be brushed aside as imagination or hearsay.

Depending on who takes the stand, this could mark one of the most consequential public hearings on the phenomenon in U.S. history.

What to Watch For on September 9th

Firsthand Military Testimony

Will we see Air Force and Navy veterans detailing direct, repeated interactions with UAPs? If so, it would be far harder for skeptics to dismiss the subject as “pilot error” or “radar anomalies.”

Insiders from Black Programs

The biggest question: will someone with knowledge of crash retrievals or reverse-engineering projects step forward under oath? Even hints of this could ignite a firestorm of media attention.

Congressional Tone

The line of questioning will be just as important as the witnesses themselves. If lawmakers come armed with tough, informed questions, the American public may finally hear answers that cut past the decades of secrecy.

Why This Matters

For decades, the UAP topic has been buried under layers of classification, ridicule, and denial. But the tide has shifted.

Former officials, intelligence officers, and whistleblowers have begun pushing the narrative that the government knows far more than it admits.

This hearing could either:

Crack the door open further on hidden programs, or Fall flat if the witnesses are too carefully chosen or restricted.

Either way, the stakes are higher than ever.

The Bigger Picture

This isn’t just about strange objects in the sky. It’s about transparency, national security, and the possibility that humanity may not be alone.

If even fragments of the rumors surrounding crash retrievals or advanced off-world technology are confirmed under oath in Congress, we may be witnessing the first true steps toward disclosure.

Final Thought

The September 9th hearing could be the moment where the extraordinary becomes undeniable, or it could be another chapter in the government’s long history of obfuscation. Either way, the world will be watching.

Follow along as I break down every development leading up to the hearing, and cover it live on Twitter. This might just be the turning point we’ve been waiting for.

Dr. Garry Nolan of Stanford University has emerged as one of the most credible voices in UAP research, but his recent interviews reveal a fascinating division in his approach to the phenomenon.

According to two major interviews conducted this week, Nolan is pursuing two completely separate research tracks that could reshape our understanding of non-human intelligence.

The Tridactyl Specimen Controversy

During his appearance on Vinnie Adams’ Disclosure Team show, Dr. Nolan addressed the controversial Peruvian tridactyl specimens that have captured global attention.

According to Nolan’s analysis, one element stands out from a forensic perspective: “the fingerprints that seem to be of a different character than you would expect from human or monkey.”

As he explained to Adams, if these specimens were constructed hoaxes, creating authentic-looking fingerprints with non-human characteristics would represent remarkably sophisticated fabrication.

However, Nolan makes crucial distinctions about the various specimens. According to his assessment, while some are clearly constructed, others demonstrate genuine age through carbon dating. The situation became more complex due to actions by Peruvian authorities.

According to research conducted by Cristina Gomez, who spoke directly with the Peru research team, the Peruvian Ministry of Culture confiscated what they determined were constructed dolls from an airport shipment, then used these confiscated items to make a broader claim that all specimens in the research team’s possession must be fraudulent.

This represents what the research team calls a significant logical leap, which they are now challenging through an active $3,000,000 lawsuit.

The team maintains that the confiscated dolls are separate from the larger specimens that have undergone extensive analysis. The reason Dr. Nolan declined to analyze these specimens reveals the challenges facing legitimate UAP research.

According to his account on the Disclosure Team, when first approached to study the mummies, “one of the requirements was that I would, every moment would be filmed.”

Nolan’s response was unequivocal: “I’m not going to be filmed. This is not the Kardashians. That’s not how science is done.”

According to Nolan’s estimates, proper analysis would require approximately $5 million, funding multiple research teams, ensuring appropriate controls, and preparing for peer-reviewed publication.

As he explained, “You can’t do good science under the public glare because people who want results and updates every week or every other week” risk putting researchers under duress, leading to premature conclusions that get sensationalized before proper verification.

Reference to genetic complexity also plays a role in his analysis. According to Nolan’s explanation to Adams, single mutations like polydactyly cannot account for the complex anatomical features observed, noting that “evolution doesn’t work quite like that” and would require multiple genetic modifications across the genome.

Consciousness as Interface Mechanism

Completely separate from the physical specimen analysis, Dr. Nolan has been conducting groundbreaking research into consciousness as an interface with non-human intelligence.

According to his statements on the Lehto Files, this research emerged from his Pentagon work analyzing individuals who reported health effects after UAP encounters.

Dr. Nolan’s brain imaging studies have revealed measurable changes in UAP witnesses, including what he describes as “hypertrophy of the caudate-putamen region and altered white matter in the corpus callosum.”

According to his research findings, “the majority of the receiver aspects of human interaction with these, whatever they are, alleged or imagined, entities involve meditative states or, frankly, psychedelic drugs that change how your brain functions.”

This consciousness research focuses on what Nolan calls the “default mode network” — essentially the brain’s sense of self.

According to his data, when this network is suppressed through meditation, psychedelics, or other means, individuals report accessing different states of awareness that may facilitate contact experiences.

AI Revolution in Research

Perhaps most significantly, according to Dr. Nolan’s recent statements, artificial intelligence is revolutionizing both areas of his research.

As he explained, AI now enables him to “look at all of this data with truly superhuman capability and contextualize the data.”

For consciousness research, AI helps analyze complex brain imaging datasets, while for materials analysis, it processes massive spectral data previously beyond human capabilities.

According to Nolan’s research implications, developing human consciousness capabilities could be crucial for future contact scenarios.

If consciousness truly serves as an interface mechanism, then understanding and training these abilities becomes essential for humanity’s development.

The key insight from Nolan’s research is that breakthrough understanding may come from consciousness research rather than physical artifacts, or potentially from both working in parallel.

His approach suggests that the most credible path forward involves separating these investigations while maintaining scientific rigor in both domains, protected from media sensationalism that has historically plagued UAP research.
