The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on Friday rejected President Trump’s authority to impose sweeping tariffs in a 7-4 decision.
“The Government appeals a decision of the Court of International Trade setting aside five Executive Orders that imposed tariffs of unlimited duration on nearly all goods from nearly every country in the world, holding that the tariffs were not authorized by the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), 50 U.S.C. § 1701 et seq. Because we agree that IEEPA’s grant of presidential authority to “regulate” imports does not authorize the tariffs imposed by the Executive Orders, we affirm,” the Federal Appeals Court said.
A court battle over President Trump’s tariffs is playing out in a district court and the Court of International Trade.
In May, The Court of International Trade in New York said President Trump exceeded his authority to impose tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 (IEEPA).
“The order halts Trump’s 30% tariffs on China, his 25% tariffs on some goods imported from Mexico and Canada, and the 10% universal tariffs on most goods coming into the United States. It does not, however, affect the 25% tariffs on autos, auto parts, steel or aluminum, which were subject to Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act – a different law than the one Trump cited for his broader trade actions,” CNN reported earlier this year. The Treasury Department has confirmed a national security and public safety disaster: Chinese money-laundering networks have pushed more than $312 billion in illicit transactions through U.S. financial institutions in recent years.
That money financed Mexican drug cartels, enabled human traffickers, and supported organized criminal networks that have left tens of thousands of Americans dead from fentanyl overdoses and other cartel-driven violence.
According to FINCEN.gov, financial institutions filed 1,675 BSA reports in the dataset indicating suspicious activity potentially involving human trafficking or human smuggling.
FINCEN.gov also discovered funds potentially associated with healthcare fraud, elder abuse, and suspicious gaming activity.
What makes these Chinese Money Laundering Networks (CMLNs) especially dangerous is their coordination with Mexico’s most violent cartels, including the Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation organizations.
Mexico’s strict limits on U.S. dollar deposits force cartels to look abroad, while China’s own capital controls make moving money out of the country nearly impossible through legal channels.
Criminals found the perfect solution: CMLNs convert cartel drug profits in dollars into Chinese renminbi and then cycle those funds back into the U.S. banking system.

A British Airways flight from London Gatwick bound for Egypt was forced into an emergency landing in Venice, Italy, after passengers and crew members suddenly fell violently ill mid-flight, triggering a full-scale HAZMAT response, The Standard reported.
The incident took place in December, though details have only now been reported.
The December 23rd flight, bound for Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, was met on the tarmac by firefighters in full hazmat suits with breathing apparatus and scanning devices.
Passengers described a scene of pure panic as emergency teams boarded the aircraft and began sweeping both crew and travelers for possible exposure to toxic fumes.
61-year-old passenger Melanie Wells, traveling with her 19-year-old daughter, recalled the terrifying ordeal in a statement to The Standard.
Melanie felt ill soon after the flight departed and thought the heat inside the cabin was to blame. But she says matters quickly worsened when other travelers and cabin crew also became ill.
“About an hour and a half in the air, crew members suddenly began running down the aisle backwards and forwards. I didn’t know what was going on,” she said.

Trump’s tariff strategy has not only brought a massive win in European trade negotiations, but it has also underscored how crucial U.S. market access is for Mexico, Canada, and China. Tariffs are now strangling foreign direct investment in all three countries, forcing them to either concede to U.S. trade terms, as Europe did, or see their economies take a massive hit.
America entered this trade war in a strong position, because it is far less dependent on trade than its rivals. While trade accounts for 67 percent of Canada’s GDP, 73 percent of Mexico’s GDP, and 37 percent of China’s GDP, it makes up only 24 percent of U.S. GDP. This imbalance gives the U.S. enormous leverage in negotiations.
Trump has placed significant economic pressure on all three countries, particularly Canada and Mexico, where job losses could reach 1.3 percent and 2.3 percent of the workforce, equivalent to about 278,000 Canadian jobs and 1.4 million Mexican jobs.
