Clinton asked Putin to help hunt Bin Laden – declassified files

In response to the proposal, the Russian president agreed that a “common front” was needed to combat Islamist terrorism

Former US President Bill Clinton proposed to Russian President Vladimir Putin a joint US-Russian effort against international terrorism, according to recently declassified records of their first summit.

The transcript for the exchange, which took place at the Kremlin on June 4, 2000, was released on Thursday followinga Freedom of Information lawsuit filed by the National Security Archive, an independent research institute at George Washington University.

According to the minutes, Clinton asked Putin, “What about anti-terrorism cooperation between our countries, particularly against Usama bin Laden?”He then proposed a “coordinated strategy” between Washington and Moscow.

“We ought to get our people together to develop a comprehensive approach to dealing with [then-Al-Qaeda leader] bin Laden,” Clinton is quoted as stating.

At the time, newly elected President Putin was confronting an Islamist insurgency in the North Caucasus. He reportedly said a “common front is necessary” to counter what he called a “Terrorist International.”

The leaders also discussed the prospect of Russia joining NATO, with Clinton acknowledging that the military bloc’s eastward expansion was perceived as a “problem” by many in Moscow.

“There should be full-scale relations between Russia and NATO,” Putin is quoted as saying.

After the 9/11 attacks, Washington and Moscow began close cooperation against radical Islamists, establishing several joint task forces.

However, as the US shifted toward unilateral military interventions, Russia grew increasingly wary. Moscow condemned the 2003 US-led Iraq invasion, viewing it as a violation of international law and a troubling precedent of fabricated pretexts for the use of force.

Earlier this year, Russian Foreign Minister SergeyLavrov reaffirmed Moscow’s willingness to collaborate “with all countries that do not apply double standards” in the fight against terrorism.

In recent years, the US reduced cooperation with Russia to a bare minimum as relations deteriorated, especially after the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022.

Since President Donald Trump assumed office in January, however, Washington and Moscow have started discussions on ways to revive bilateral relations. In several phone calls and at the summit in Alaska earlier this month, Trump and Putin discussed areas for potential economic and energy cooperation.

France has ruined its reputation as a free country – Durov

(Maybe not France but Macron has ruined a free country.)

Telegram’s founder has accused Paris of bringing “absurd” charges against him

Telegram founder Pavel Durov has said that France ruined its reputation as a free country by briefly detaining him last year.

Durov was arrested at a Paris airport in August 2024on charges of allowing criminals to use his messenger for illegal activities, including extremism and child abuse. The Russian-born tech entrepreneur was later released on €5 million ($5.86 million) bail and allowed to return to Dubai, where he resides.

In a post on Telegram on Sunday, Durov described his detention as “unprecedented”and “legally and logically absurd.” He said the investigation had produced no evidence of wrongdoing, stressing that Telegram’s moderation practices follow industry standards and that the company has complied with all legally binding requests from French authorities.

Durov also claimed thatFrench investigators bypassed EU-mandated legal channelswhen sending queries to the platform, a mistake he argued could have been avoided “simply by googling the process or asking.”

“Sadly, the only outcome of my arrest so far has been massive damage to France’s image as a free country,” Durov said, adding that he must still return to Paris every two weeks with no appeal date in sight.

Telegram has since updated its privacy policy to allow the collection of metadata, including IP addresses, device information, and username changes, for up to one year, with the option of handing it over to “relevant judicial authorities.”

Last month, Durov accused France of waging “a crusade” against free speech, claiming that intelligence officials had tried to pressure him into censoring conservative contentduring Romania’s 2024 presidential election. The French intelligence agency, the DGSE, later said it had merely “reminded” him of the responsibility to police content while denying election interference.

(The whole EU is falling apart because they went Nazi, something they accuse others of. It’s obvious they lost their way.)

US scientists axe ‘woke’ to keep cash flowing – WSJ

Since returning to the White House, Donald Trump has been purging government agencies of diversity, equity and inclusion programs

Researchers in the US have been revising their grant renewal applications en masse in recent months over fears that wording tied to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)initiatives could cost them government funding, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday

Since taking office in January, US President Donald Trump, a long-time critic of what he views as “divisive” leftist narratives, has taken numerous steps to eradicate such policies and even associated language at the government level.

Promoted by his predecessor Democrat Joe Biden, DEI programs sought to ensurethat sexual and racial minorities were better represented in government agencies. The Trump administration has described the initiatives as “illegal and immoral discrimination.”

The WSJ wrote thatat least 600 grant renewal applicationssince October 2024 hadremoved “terms associated with diversity, equity and inclusion,” such as “diverse,” “underrepresented,” and “disparities.”

The outlet said it had reviewed thousands of applications for National Institutes of Health-funded projects in the fiscal years 2024 and 2025.

Some scientists have also reportedly shifted the focus of studies that were originally centered on minority groups.

A Johns Hopkins University spokesperson confirmed to the WSJ that “federal agencies have asked researchers to make modest modifications” before renewing grants.

On his first day in office, Trump signed an executive order mandating a review of government DEI initiatives.

Addressing a joint session of Congress in March, Trump declared that “we’ve ended the tyranny of so-called Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies allacross the entire federal governmentand indeed the private sector and our military.” He stressed thatappointments should be made strictly on the basis of skills and competence, not race or gender.

The Trump administration has also targeted a number of elite universities, including Harvard, for their failure to address “anti-Semitic” protests in support of Palestine and abolish DEI policies, suspending federal funding and restricting international student enrollment.

‘Don’t threaten us’ – EU state to Zelensky

Hungary denounces Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil pipeline

Hungary has warned Ukraine to stop disrupting its energy supply from Russia after Kiev targeted a key pipeline delivering oil to Central Europe.

Ukrainian forces struck the Soviet-era Druzhba (Friendship) pipeline three times this month, sparking outrage in both Hungary and neighboring Slovakia. The flow through the pipeline was last halted on Friday.

At a press conference during Independence Day celebrations in Kiev on Sunday, a reporterasked Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky how the attacks relate to Hungary’s opposition to Ukraine’s EU and NATO ambitions.

“We have always supported friendship with Hungary, but now the very existence of this friendship depends on Budapest’s position,” Zelensky replied with a smile, playing on the pipeline’s name.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto issued a sharp rebuke on X. “Zelensky used Ukraine’s national holiday to threaten Hungary. We firmly reject the Ukrainian President’s intimidation,”Szijjarto wrote. He describedthe attack on Hungary’s energy supply as “an attack on sovereignty.”

“A war to which Hungary has nothing to do with can never justify violating our sovereignty. We call on Zelensky to stop threatening Hungary and to end the reckless attacks on our energy security!” he added.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga responded on X, writing to Szijjarto: “You don’t need to tell the Ukrainian President what to do or say, and when.”He urged Budapest to “diversify and become independent from Russia, like the rest of Europe.”

Szijjarto shot back: “Stop attacking our energy security! This is not our war!”

Unlike many EU countries, Hungary has refused to send weapons to Kiev and has heavily criticized Brussels for imposing sanctions on Moscow. The country maintains that Ukraine’s NATO membership could trigger an all-out conflict with Russia.

(When the EU leaves behind Ukraine, the Ukrainians will regret what they did to these countries.Ukraine is the mafia for the EU, it was said from day one of the war in 2022.)

Deep state entrenched in US intel community – Gabbard

Malicious deep state actors have been working against the American people, the US intel chief has said

The US intelligence community has been infiltrated bydeep state actors, who are busy “inserting their own partisan political opinions and views” into intel productsand effectively working against the American people, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has said.

The DNI chief, who has repeatedly pledged to root out rogue actors from the US intel community, made the remarks on Thursday while speaking to FOX Business, stating that the deep state has created entire “pockets” within America’s intelligence agencies.

“There were a lot of pockets where the Deep State actors were very entrenched and were politicizing their centers or their positions, either against the American people… [or] creating intelligence products and inserting their own partisanpolitical opinions and views,” she told the network.

”These are dangerous peoplebecausethey believe their views and opinions supersede the US constitutionthat they all swear an oath to uphold, to support and defend, and… those who are elected by the American people, specifically the president of the United States,” Gabbard added.

The intelligence community has grown extremely politicized over the years and steered away from its intended goals and original mandate, Gabbard added.“It’s very simple. The mandate the intelligence community has is to find the truth and to tell the truth,” she stressed, adding that only sufficient transparency could ensure “actual accountability” for the intel community andproduce a “real change.

Earlier this week, Gabbard stripped security clearances from 37 current and former intelligence officials, accusing them of manipulating and politicizing intelligence. The move has become “the first step to aggressively get after our core national security mission, root out those deep state actors,” according to Gabbard.

The list includes multiple prominent intel figures, including former NSA deputy director Richard Ledgett, former assistant secretary of state for intelligence and research Brett Holmgren, and former principal deputy director of DNI Stephanie O’Sullivan.
