State Department isn't buying ProPublica's sob story about Taliban alumnus whose funding was exposed by DOGE

AUGUST 25, 2025

JOSEPH MACKINNON

THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION ISN'T SHEDDING ANY TEARS FOR TALIBAN ALUMNI.

ProPublica — an investigative journalist outfit that has received donations from Laurene Powell Jobs and her leftist Emerson Collective, from George Soros' Foundation to Promote Open Society, and from Crankstart Foundation, Lincoln Project donor Michael Moritz's family foundation — ran a sob story on Friday about a so-called "Afghan scholar" whose receipt of American funds through the U.S. Institute of Peace was exposed earlier this year by the Department of Government Efficiency.

The liberal publication tried to paint former Taliban official Mohammad Qasem Halimi as a victim, the work he did as "routine" yet "ambiguous," DOGE's publicization of Halimi's financial link to the U.S. as irresponsible, and the DOGE worker who briefly controlled USIP as inept.

The game the establishment media is playing is 'an insult to our nation.'

ProPublica's concern-mongering has not found resonance at the Trump State Department, which is aware that Halimi was part of the regime that harbored the terrorists who attacked America on 9/11.

In a Monday statement to Rikki Ratliff-Fellman, executive producer for Glenn Beck, the department defended cutting off Halimi, reiterated that he was indeed a former Taliban member, and underscored that the game the establishment media is playing is "an insult to our nation."

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to visit Mexico as early as next week

MND StaffAugust 25, 20251/2

President Claudia Sheinbaum said Monday that it is likely that United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio will come to Mexico next week to sign a new bilateral security agreement.

“He will very probably come … in the first week of September; it’s probable. It will be confirmed this week,” Sheinbaum said at her morning press conference.

Asked whether the new Mexico-U.S. security agreement would be signed during Rubio’s visit, Sheinbaum responded: “Yes, that’s the idea.”

The president has said on repeated occasions this month that the new security agreement is “ready.”

She said last week that the bilateral pact was on the verge of being signed andis “fundamentally” based on “sovereignty, mutual trust, territorial respect … and coordination without subordination.”

“They are the four principles,” Sheinbaum said last Tuesday.

The Mexico-U.S. security relationship is currently governed by the Bicentennial Framework for Security, Public Health and Safe Communities. That agreement took effect in late 2021, superseding the Mérida Initiative.

Pact to be signed amid tension in the Mexico-US relationship

The signing of a new Mexico-U.S. security agreement in the first week of September would come after an eventful and turbulent August.

On Aug. 8, The New York Timesreported that U.S. President Donald Trump had “secretly signed a directive to the Pentagon to begin using military force against certain Latin American drug cartels that his administration has deemed terrorist organizations.”

That prompted Sheinbaum to reassure Mexicans that “the United States is not going to send its military into Mexico.”

“We cooperate [with the U.S. on security], we collaborate, but there will be no invasion. That’s ruled out … because, in addition to what we’ve stated in all our conversations, it’s not allowed, nor is it part of any agreement,” she said at her Aug. 8 press conference.

Last Friday, Sheinbaum declared that a U.S. airstrike against cartel targets in Mexico “won’t happen” when asked about the remarks DEA Administrator Terrance Cole made on the topic.

Earlier in August, the president said that a U.S. military intervention in Mexico is “not on the table,” and throughout the month— and indeed during the entirety of her presidency to date — she has stressed that her government would never accept any kind of violation of Mexico’s sovereignty.

Also in August, Sheinbaum asserted thather government hasn’t entered into an agreement with the DEA after the U.S. agency announced what it called a “bold bilateral initiative to dismantle cartel gatekeepers and combat synthetic drug trafficking.”

Sheinbaum’s frequent pushback to U.S. announcements and rhetoric has occurred as Trump and other U.S. officials have talked tough about their desire, and intention, to combat Mexican cartels that smuggle large quantities of fentanyl and other narcotics into the U.S.

Sheinbaum revealed in May that she had rejected an offer from the U.S. president to send the U.S. army into Mexico to combat criminal groups such as the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, both of which are now designated as foreign terrorist organizations by the U.S. government.

While the president has remained defiant in her rhetoric and her opposition to any kind of U.S. military intervention in Mexico, the Mexican government has allowed U.S. drones to fly over Mexico to assist the fight against organized crime, including in a flight deep into Mexican territory this month.

In addition, the Sheinbaum administration has sought to appease the U.S. government by deploying thousands of troops to the northern border region while cracking down on cartels with operations across the country that have resulted in the arrests of thousands of suspects and the seizure of huge quantities of narcotics. It has also sent more than 50 cartel figures to face justice in the United States.

In May, Rubio praised Mexico for its efforts to combat cartels.

The pressure on Mexico from Trump, largely in the form of the threat — and imposition — of tariffs has been relentless. His administration has even asserted that “Mexican drug trafficking organizations have an intolerable alliance with the government of Mexico,” and that “the government of Mexico has afforded safe havens for the cartels to engage in the manufacturing and transportation of dangerous narcotics.”

All these factors, and others, add up to a complex and tense bilateral security environment even as Sheinbaum and Trump maintain that they, and their governments, have a good working relationship.

The signing of a newsecurity pact between Mexico and the United States should give greater clarity and renewed impetus to the joint fight against organized crime, but the complexity and tension in the security relationship will remain, as will the calls of some U.S. officials and politicians — and some Mexican ones as well — for the U.S. to adopt a more proactive, and even bellicose, posture, against Mexican cartels.

Seriously she must in fear for her life and family every minute of everyday. So now the U.S. has to negotiate with the Cartel through Scheinbaum.

Polish president vetoes bill extending aid for Ukrainians

The move also puts funding for Kiev’s access to Starlink internet at risk

Polish President Karol Nawrockivetoed a bill on Monday to prolong benefits for Ukrainian refugees, arguing the legislation needs a rework. The current system of payments isset to expire in September.

In announcing the decision, the president, who took office earlier this month, reiterated his stancethat state benefits should only cover Ukrainians who work in Poland.

“We remain open to providing assistance to Ukrainian citizens – that hasn’t changed. But after three and a half years, our law should be amended,” Nawrocki said in a statement.

The vetoed bill would haveextended current benefits for Ukrainians until March 2026. Poland has been one of the top destinations for Ukrainian refugees since the escalation of the conflict between Kiev and Moscow in February 2022.Around one million Ukrainians are believed to have settled in the country since then.

“President Nawrocki does not agree to the privileged treatment of citizens of other countries. That is why he has decided to veto the bill on assistance for Ukrainian citizens in its current form and will present his own legal proposals,” the presidential office stated.

The decision has prompted concerns it could ultimately have grave implications for Ukraine itself, given that funding for Ukraine’s access to Starlink satellite internet was in the same legislation.

“Presidential vetoes are slashing blindly! With his decision, Karol Nawrocki is cutting off Ukraine’s internet, since that is effectively what his veto of the law on assistance to Ukrainian citizens means,”Polish Digital Affairs Minister Krzystof Gawkowski wrote on X.

Nawrocki’s officetold Reuters that the payments for Starlink could continue if parliament adopted a billincluding the presidential proposals before the end of September.

Starlink is a key command and control element for the Ukrainian military, and has seen direct combat use, with satellite terminals routinely mounted on long-range aerial and naval drones.

(I wonder if Trump is behind the scenes on this, I think so. Poland is one of the best Allie’s to Trump, including Hungary and Slovakia.I love that Poland is doing this; Ukraine and Zelensky have been assholes and terrorists of any country that have respect for America and Trump, and opposed Ukraine’s proxy war. There are other countries that feel the same but they stay quiet. Ukraine will say Poland is siding with Russia, but Poland hates Russia as much as Ukraine leaders.)

Ukraine imposes Covid mask regime in two regions

Health authorities have reported a spike in new cases of the ‘Nimbus’ and ‘Stratus’ strains of the virus

Face-mask mandates have been reintroduced in hospitals in two regions of Ukraine amid a rise in Covid-19 cases.

In a post on his Telegram channel on Monday, the head of the Rovno regional council, Andrey Karaush, announced the introduction of masks at a major local hospital. Other medical facilities in the Western Ukrainian region will be considering mask mandates in the coming days, he added.

“Since the beginning of August, almost half a thousand cases of the disease have been officially confirmed in the region,” Karaush announced. (Really are they really worried about citizens? Stop the war then!)

Several Telegram channels and media outlets have also reported that mask mandates were put in effect in several hospitals in Odessa Region, with visits allegedly restricted as well. (Oh the regions where the citizens are Russia friendly or related.)

According to data circulating in the media, in Kiev alone there have been 1,121 confirmed Covid-19 cases over the past week.

Earlier this month, Ukraine’s Health Ministry stated that the new ‘Nimbus’ and ‘Stratus’ strains of theOmicron varianthad been detected in the country. (The least deadly or transferable variant)

The strains are said to be behind a rising number of Covid-19 cases in multiple countries over the past few weeks, including the US and the UK.(I haven’t heard that in the U.S., but I wouldn’t be a sheep and believe it.)

At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-2021, sweeping mask mandates were enacted in numerous countries across the globe. Many nations also launched mass vaccination drives, some going as far as to make the shots mandatory. In the vast majority of jurisdictions, drastic measures havesince been rolled back as the virus seems to have become less deadly over time.

Ukrainian field camp wiped out – MOD (VIDEO)

Kiev’s troops have suffered an estimated 600 casualties in the attack near the key Donbass city of Kramatorsk

Russian forces have struck Ukrainian troop positions near Kramatorsk,a key city in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), according to a video released Monday by the Defense Ministry in Moscow.

The targets were located in an industrial site in the village of Shablinka, northwest of Kramatorsk, as well as in a nearby forest. The ministry said the strike involved Iskander ballistic missiles, aerial bombs and kamikaze drones.

Footage released by the ministry showed multiple explosions and widespread destruction at the site. Russian officials have estimated that Ukrainian forces sustainedmore than 600 casualties and lost three tanks, four multiple-launch rocket systems and dozens of other pieces of heavy equipment.

A Telegram channel known for pre-empting official MOD releases last week claimed the strike had devastated Ukraine’s 156th Mechanized Brigade, eliminating two battalion tactical groups.

Kramatorsk, together with the cities of Slavyansk and Konstantinovka, forms a heavily urbanized stronghold in the western part of the DPRthat has long been under Ukrainian control. Last month, Kiev-appointed regional head Vadim Filashkin urged civilians to evacuate, estimating that about 53,000 residents remained in Kramatorsk.

Ukraine has downplayed battlefield setbacksover recent months, insisting they are temporary and will not alter the overall course of the conflict.

On the country’s Independence Day on Sunday, VladimirZelensky claimed Kiev’s Western backers assert that “Ukraine has not yet won, but is certainly not losing.”He added that compromising with Russia would be dishonorable and unacceptable. (They have already lost and are losers, there’s no catching up, when the money is cut off the war ends, imo.)

Moscow has accused Zelensky of prolonging the conflict in order to further his personal political goals instead of pursuing a negotiated settlement.

Kiev triggered by Woody Allen Moscow videolink

The Hollywood legend has made a virtual appearance at a Russian cinema event

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has blasted US filmmaker Woody Allen for participating in a Russian cinema event, calling his involvementan insult to Ukrainian movie professionals.

The 89-year-old film director appeared via videolink on Sunday at the Moscow International Film Week, where he spoke about his career and ties to Russia.

Kiev condemned the participation, describing it on Monday as“a disgrace and an insult to the sacrifice of Ukrainian actors and filmmakers” affected by the conflict. The ministry said Allen’s remarks amounted to ignoring what it alleged to be Russian crimes over the past decade.

Later on Monday, the Maria Zankovetska Lviv National Academic Theatre announced it was scrapping its upcoming performances of Allen’s stage musical ‘Bullets Over Broadway,’ which had been set to take place on August 28-29. In a post on its official Facebook page, the theatre said the show “will not take place”and will be replaced in the schedule.

Management condemned Allen’s appearance at the Moscow film event, stressing thatwhile the Lviv production draws on the screenplay of his 1994 film, it is not the original work but an adaptation by a group of writers and producers. “However, we have decided not to stage the musical without comment from the rights holders,” the statement said.

Kiev and its Western backers have also sought to isolate Russia on multiple fronts, including by discouraging participation in local cultural events. They claimed such involvement served to support Moscow’s actions. The campaign has largely failed.

Since taking office in January,US President Donald Trump has effectively abandoned efforts launched under his predecessor to marginalize Russia. Instead, his administration is focused on seeking a resolution to the Ukraine conflict and normalizing relations with Moscow.

(The arrogance of this beggar mafia country is outrageous, while they try to erase all Russian culture and entertainment, and always make it about themselves. Russia has 100s of years of culture and entertainment before most countries entered the genre. Ukraine leaders are evil. They can never erase Russia, no matter how hard they try. Ukraine is a bummer to the world and the world is getting sick of it. They have taken their propaganda too far.)

Soros-Funded Group Behind Last-Ditch Rally for Accused MS-13 Gang Member, Human Smuggler Kilmar Abrego Garcia

John Binder25 Aug 2025

The far-left organization behind a rally on Monday for illegal alien Kilmar Abrego Garica, an accused MS-13 gang member, human trafficker, and domestic abuser,is partially funded by George and Alex Soros’s Open Society Foundations.

As Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were readying to take custody of Abrego Garcia on Monday, the far-left group CASA held a rally in support of the accused human smuggler — who has also been accused of MS-13 gang membership, domestic violence, and abuse of women.

CASA’s Lydia Walther-Rodriguez translated at the rally for Abrego Garcia, who said he is a victim of President Donald Trump’s mass deportation efforts.

As Breitbart News has long reported, Soros’s Open Society Foundations have thrown millions at CASA to advocate for mass immigration over the years. In 2023, the Open Society Foundations awarded CASA a $250,000 grant and CASA in Action, the group’s political action committee (PAC), with $1.6 million.

From 2018 to 2022, theOpen Society Foundations gave CASA about 1.6 million in grant fundingto carry out its far-left immigration advocacy.

Abrego Garica, who was returned to the United States from El Salvador after the Justice Department charged him with human smuggling, is now facing deportation to Uganda after he was released from federal custody.

Iran: Ayatollah Khamenei Demands ‘Great National Unity’ as Cracks Show in Political Establishment

Frances Martel25 Aug 20251/2

Iran’s “supreme leader,” dictator Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, delivered a speech on Sunday demanding complete submission to his regime from the Iranian people, describing national “unity” as an “iron shield” to defend against America and Israel.

Khamenei made his comments in the context of the beginning of a holiday known as “Government Week” in Iran. According to the state-run propaganda site PressTV, Government Week marks “the week leading up to the 1981 martyrdom anniversary of Iran’s then president Mohammad Ali Rajaei and Prime Minister Mohammad Javad Bahonar.”

Other state outlets described Khamenei’s appearances as related to the anniversary of the death of Imam Reza, the eighth imam of Shia Islam. More immediately, the comments followed weeks of debate, some of it spilling into the public, amongpolitical heavyweights in Iran, many of whom began to demand the ayatollah seek negotiations with the United States after airstrikesare believed to have destroyed three of Iran’s most important nuclear developments sites.

Multiple reports throughoutAugust have identified members of the prior “moderate” administration of former President Hassan Rouhanias making public statements and writing articlessuggesting that some form of negotiation with America was necessary to preserve the regime– a stark contrast to Khamenei’s own rejection of any contact with the administration of President Donald Trump. President Masoud Pezeshkian, who campaigned as an alleged “moderate,” also toed the line this week, issuing repeated comments demanding “unity” from the Iranian people behind Khamenei’s defiant rejection of any attempts to improve relations with Washington.

In his remarks on Sunday,Khamenei insisted that normalizing ties to the United States was impossible because Washington sought to subjugate Iran.

“The US wants Iran to be obedient to it,”he claimed, according to a translation by the regime-friendly al-Manar news network in Lebanon. “The Iranian nation is deeply offended by such a great insult and will stand with all its strength against those who harbor such a false expectation of the Iranian people.”

Khamenei insulted politicians in Iran who encouraged negotiations with the United Statesas “shallow-minded” and demanded an end to any discussions about alternative ways of addressing the country’s current weakened diplomatic state.

“Ayatollah Khamenei urged all people, officials, and intellectuals towholeheartedly preserve and strengthen the iron shield of the current great national unity,” al-Manar reported. “He also said that all people and groups should support the hardworking President Masoud Pezeshkian.”

Another pro-regime Iranian news outlet, Tasnim News, emphasized that Khamenei reiterated that Iran won what has become commonly known as the “12-Day War” in June, when Israel launched a massive military operation to weaken Iran’s ability to attack the country. The United States joined the operation by approving the bombing of three Iranian nuclear sites – the uranium enrichment facilities at Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan – on June 21, which President Donald Trump described as a “spectacular military success.”

Most experts, including leaders at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated after the attack that they believed the sites’ ability to enrich uranium had been largely destroyed. Despite the tremendous lossesto the Iranian regime and minimal losses on the Israeli and American sides, Khamenei proclaimed that the two had suffered “bitter defeats” in June.==

“Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran’s adversaries have realized from ‘their bitter defeats in military attacks’ and from the ‘firm resistance and unity of the Iranian nation, officials, and Armed Forces,'”Tasnim relayed, “that neither the people nor the Islamic Republic can be subdued by war or forced into obedience.”

“That is why the enemies now pursue their objectives through creating discord in Iran,” Khamenei added. (Oh the people are revolting so it’s the US’s fault)

“The Leader cautioned against internal agents, Zionist influence, and careless voices that may fuel discord, while praising the Iranian people for maintaining unity despite political or social differences,” Tasnim added.

(The guy sounds like he has dementia)

The emphasis on “preserving unity among all strata of society, between the people and the administration” from the “supreme leader”follows rumblings of opposition to the intransigence of the regime in the past year. The independent outlet Iran Internationaldescribed a “fierce battle” within the Iranian government erupting last week, led in part by former President Rouhani and former Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who served under Rouhani.

Rouhani’s administration was responsible for the negotiations that led to President Barack Obama’s 2015 “Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action” (JCPOA), the nuclear agreement that lifted major sanctions on Iran and allowed it to dramatically expand its spending on foreign terrorist adventures in the Middle East and Latin America.

Zarif reportedly wrote an op-ed on August 15 calling for expanding “democracy” in the country, a non-starter for Khamenei, to ensure domestic stabilityand put Tehran in a stronger position to address its turbulent foreign policy.

“Outlets close to the Supreme Leader and the Revolutionary Guards — including Kayhan, Javan, and Vatan Emrooz — denounced the proposals as treasonous, delusional, and ‘capitulation’ to the West,” Iran International noted.

Shortly before Zarif weighed in,a group of alleged “moderates” called the “Reform Front”published a letter similarly urging Khamenei to employ a softer touch toward the West, “including a voluntary suspension of uranium enrichment, the release of political prisoners and an end to the repression of dissent.” Khamenei has aggressively rejected all reforms respecting human rights and the Pezeshkian administration has repeatedly reiterated that the country will not accept any limits on uranium enrichment.

“The aftermath of the recent 12-day war with Israel, coupled with runaway inflation, industrial stagnation, the collapse of the national currency and capital flight, had created a more acute risk of economic paralysis than ever before,” the alleged “reformers” wrote.

Rouhani himself appeared in some quotes in Iranian local media suggesting friendlier ties to the West.

“If we can improve relations with Europe, our neighbors, and both East and West—even reduce tensions with the United States—and it serves our interests, then why not?” he purportedly asked. “Not only is there nothing wrong with it, it is our duty and obligation.”

(Is Iran ready to get rid of the Ayatollah? Sounds like it.)

Trump claims America no longer spends money on Ukraine

The US is now profiting from selling weapons to Kiev, the president has said

The United States is no longer directly funding Ukraine and will instead be profiting from arms sales to its European NATO partners, who in turn supply those weapons to Kiev, President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday.

Trump claimed that Washington was being “fleeced” under previous US administrations, which he said had committed $350 billion to Kiev. “I don’t blame Ukraine… if they come and ask for a hundred billion dollars and they get it,”he remarked, calling Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky “the greatest salesman I think I’ve ever met.”

“We don’t pay any money to Ukraine anymore. Do you know that? In fact, it’s the opposite. They request through NATO. We deal with NATO. We don’t deal really with Ukraine,” Trump explained. “NATO pays us in full and does what they want.”

Trump also emphasized that Washington would play only a supporting role in providing any security guarantees for Kiev, stressing that European nations should take the lead.

Zelensky and his Western European backers have called for “Article 5-like guarantees” that would obligate countries to respond collectively if Ukraine were attacked.Kiev has reportedly asked its European supporters to allocate $100 billion to procure US-made weapons, according to the Financial Times.

Moscow has consistently denounced Western arms shipments to Ukraine in any form, warning they only prolong the conflict without changing its outcome while making NATO a direct participant in the hostilities.

Russia has also strongly opposed any Western arrangements that exclude Moscow. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated last week that collective security in Europe “cannot be resolved without the Russian Federation,” and warned that any efforts to do so would be rejected. “We will ensure our legitimate interests firmly and harshly,” Lavrov said.

The Trump administration has repeatedly distanced itself from previous blank-check US policy on Ukraine. Earlier this month, Vice President J.D. Vance said that Washington would no longer fund Kiev directly. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent claimed that European countries would pay a 10% markup on US arms sales.Trump additionally said last week that, as far as Washington is concerned, Kiev regaining Crimea and joining NATO are both “impossible.”

(I agree with Russia because this is NATO/EU proxy war. They will never stop the war and delivering weapons to Ukraine from NATO does not negate the US’s goal to sell more weapons to them, through proxies. It’s really a justification with an excuse that doesn’t work.Either cut Ukraine off and the war will end, or don’t cut them off and continue the war indefinitely. Whats the goal peace or making money through a third party? This might the first time I disagree with the President! Unless he’s doing other things behind the scenes.)
