“The shooter Dezi Freeman is my best mate,” the alleged friend wrote.

The friend claimed Freeman had been “harassed relentlessly for years by police and social services because he wanted to home school his kids and not vaccinate them”.

“He is a devout Christian and does not want his kids indoctrinated with leftist bulls**t,” they wrote.

The message also referred to Freeman’s run-ins with police, saying, “They recently took away his licence because he refused breath and drug charges etc.”

“(Freeman) has tried to resolve these issues in court many times by representing himself in the High Court, Supreme Court, County Court and Magistrates Court where he arrested the magistrate on several occasions, but was not successful in winning all of his cases,” it continued.

Experts warned of potential risk of violence in sovereign citizen movement before deadly Porepunkah shooting

A former magistrate issued a stark warning a week ago about the sovereign citizen movement in Australia.

"Governments are underestimating the reach and threats of these movements," David Heilpern told Four Corners.

On Tuesday, that threat appeared to materialise with the alleged killing of two police officers in Victoria's north-east by Dezi Freeman, who has been associated with sovereign citizen views online and remains at large.

Experts who have been tracking the sovereign citizen movement say there was a clear inflection point: the "Convoy to Canberra" protest held outside Parliament House in early 2022.

The demonstration was the largest protest ever held on the doorstep of parliament, and was attended by average citizens, anti-vaxxers, and activists protesting the COVID restrictions imposed by governments.

Post COVID, the sovereign citizen movement isn't fringe anymore," Professor Heilpern said.
