AI Is Being Weaponized For Cybercrime In 'Unprecedented' Ways, Researchers Warn

Artificial intelligence (AI) is being weaponized to conduct increasingly sophisticated cybercrimes, according to a new report from Anthropic, which warns of an “unprecedented” evolution in malicious operations that makes defense far more difficult.

In its Aug. 27 Threat Intelligence Report, the AI safety company described how criminals are embedding advanced models like “Claude” into every stage of attacks—from reconnaissance and credential theft to ransomware and fraud. Researchers said AI tools are now acting not just as advisers but as active operators in real-time campaigns.

This “represents a fundamental shift in how cybercriminals can scale their operations,” the report said.

“Agentic AI systems are being weaponized” to perform sophisticated cyberattacks, not simply provide guidance, the researchers warned.

Cases in Point

The report highlighted several examples, including a large-scale extortion campaign, fraudulent employment scams run by North Korea, and ransomware sold on dark-web forums.

In one operation, for example, a hacker used Anthropic’s coding assistant Claude Code to infiltrate at least 17 organizations—including hospitals, emergency services, and government agencies. “Claude” was deployed to automate reconnaissance, penetrate networks, analyze stolen financial data, and generate persuasive, psychologically targeted ransom notes. Demands sometimes exceeded $500,000.

Rather than encrypting files, the attacker threatened to publicly expose exfiltrated data, ranging from health care records to government credentials. The report stated that this “vibe hacking” method shows how a single operator can now achieve the impact of an entire cybercrime team.

“No,” the president said emphatically before pausing for five seconds to give even more emphasis to her response.

Democrat Rep. John Larson Calls On ‘Americans to Rise Up’ Against ‘Gestapo’ ICE Agents

Rep. John Larson (D-CT) attended an anti-immigration enforcement rally this week in Newington, Connecticut

“Americans to rise up” against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, whom he compared to Nazis.

“This is a time for good trouble. This is a time for Americans to rise up,” Larson can be heard telling a crowd at the rally.

Larson then declared ICE agents to be like Nazi Germany’s secret police, who played a significant role in the Holocaust.

“This is not Germany. That’s the SS and the Gestapo,” Larson said. “This is the United States of America. Unmask yourselves.”

Larson’s attacks on ICE come as agents are facing an 830-percent increase in assaults as they carry out immigration enforcement actions.

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons revealed in June that left-wing activists are targeting the families and children of agents. In another instance, Cudahy, California, Vice Mayor Cynthia Gonzalez (D) suggested the 18th Street Gang ought to start targeting ICE agents.

“You guys tag everything up, claiming hood, and now that your hood is being invaded by the biggest gang there is, there ain’t a peep out of you,” Gonzalez says in video footage. “It’s everyone else that’s not about the gang life and out there protesting and speaking up.”

China Rejects Trump's Proposal For Nuclear Disarmament Talks With US, Russia

China has poured cold water on President Donald Trump’s suggestion that it join the United States and Russia in talks to downsize their nuclear arsenals, dismissing the idea as unrealistic.

The Chinese regime rejected the proposal on Aug. 27, two days after Trump told reporters that Washington and Moscow were discussing ways to reduce the number of nuclear weapons and that he hoped Beijing would also take part.

Foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun signaled at a press conference that China won’t join the disarmament negotiations, adding that the primary responsibility lies with the United States.

Trump raised the subject earlier this week while fielding questions in the Oval Office alongside South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.

Trump said nuclear arms control had been discussed at his Aug. 15 summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, and that he wanted China brought into the process.

“One of the things we’re trying to do with Russia and with China is denuclearization, and it’s very important. … Denuclearization is a very big game, but Russia is willing to do it, and I think China is going to be willing to do it too,” he said.

“We cannot let nuclear weapons proliferate. We have to stop nuclear weapons.”

The push for expanded talks comes as the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, better known as New START, is set to expire on Feb. 5, 2026. With the collapse of the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty in 2019, New START is the only remaining nuclear arms control agreement between Washington and Moscow.

The 10-year treaty, which began in 2011 and was extended by five years in 2021, limits each side to no more than 1,550 deployed nuclear warheads and 700 deployed intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), submarine-launched ballistic missiles, and strategic bombers. It also caps the total number of missile launchers and bombers at 800 and provides for extensive on-site inspections.

Xi, Putin, Kim Will Oversee Chinese Military Parade In Landmark Meeting Next Week

China is set to host both Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Beijing next week in an unprecedented landmark visit.

This will be Kim's first multilateral international meeting, and the leaders will gather with President Xi Jinping to observe a military parade marking China's "Victory Day" for the the 80th anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War Two. Twenty-six other heads of state are expected to attend the parade, which are generally friendly especially to China and Russia.

There hasn't been a North Korean leader who has attended a Chinese military parade since 1959, though Kim did visit Beijing last in 2019. China's government says it will underscore its "traditional friendship" with North Korea as they continue to collaborate on "regional peace and stability".

Reuters and mainstream Western press have described a gathering of the 'Axis of Upheaval' - though this conveniently overlooks the major upheaval caused by US/NATO-led wars from Iraq to Afghanistan to Libya.

Additionally CNN is calling this an act of 'defiance' toward the West, however Chinese and Russian media are underscoring a new multi-polar reality in world leadership.

Notably absent will be heads of state from major Western nations - though the Russia-friendly Serbian and Slovak leaders will be there, for example.

"Wednesday’s 70-minute parade will feature more than 10,000 troops, over 100 aircraft and hundreds of pieces of ground equipment, showcasing China’s growing military power under Xi, who has made the modernization of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) a central mission of his rule," previews CNN.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has echoed the Russiagate hoax that has long haunted the US leader

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has accused US President Donald Trump of only pretending to act as an impartial mediator in the Ukraine conflict while in fact serving Moscow’s interests and functioning as a “Russian asset.”

Speaking on Wednesday at the Social Democratic Party’s Summer University in Castelo de Vide, Rebelo de Sousa criticized Trump for shifting away from his predecessor’s policy of unconditional support for Kiev.

“The top leader of the world’s greatest superpower is, objectively, a Soviet, or Russian, asset. He functions as an asset,” Rebelo de Sousa stated, as cited by CNN Portugal.

The Portuguese leader further claimed that Trump was less a genuine mediator than an “arbiter who only negotiates with one of the teams,” arguing that Kiev and its EU backers had to “push their way in” to participate in recent talks in Washington.

The remarks echoed the Russiagate hoax first leveled against Trump in 2016 when his political opponents alleged that his campaign had colluded with the Kremlin. That narrative dominated his first presidency, despite the 2019 Mueller probe finding no evidence of collusion and the 2023 Durham Report concluding the affair was largely manufactured by political operatives. Trump has repeatedly denounced Russiagate as the “biggest scandal in American history,” insisting that it was designed to sabotage his presidency and justify hostile policies toward Moscow.

Since returning to office in January, Trump has sought to cast himself as a neutral broker in the Ukraine conflict, alternating between blaming Russia and Ukraine for the lack of progress. Graham Threatens Tariffs, Travel Sanctions On Norway Over Boycott Of IDF, Caterpillar

Senator Lindsey Graham has blasted and threatened Norway twice in the last 24 hours, soon after the Scandinavian country's $2 trillion wealth fund - which springs largely from energy resources - announced it is divesting from Caterpillar over concerns the Israeli military has been using its bulldozers to violate human rights in Gaza and against Palestinians.

Norway's wealth fund held a 1.17% stake in the Texas-headquartered company, which was valued at $2.1 billion as of June 30. Graham has put Norway on notice: "To those who run Norway’s sovereign wealth fund: if you cannot do business with Caterpillar because Israel uses their products, maybe it’s time you’re made aware that doing business or visiting America is a privilege, not a right," the US rep stated Thursday on X.

Graham continued with his warning: "Maybe it’s time to put tariffs on countries who refuse to do business with great American companies."

"Or maybe we shouldn’t give visas to individuals who run organizations that attempt to punish American companies for geopolitical differences," he said, threatening to back new travel restrictions on Norwegians. "I would urge you to reconsider your shortsighted decision."

President Trump is likely to be open to putting such pressure on Norway, given the Caterpillar boycott action could also gain steam among other countries, given Oslo's example.

While Caterpillar's products are classified as "construction" equipment, the IDF regularly uses massive, armored Caterpillar D-9 bulldozers to destroy homes and other civilian infrastructure - not only in Gaza, but the occupied West Bank as well. For example, Palestinian roads have been routinely destroyed by such equipment.

Prior to his Thursday tweet lashing out, Graham had initially reacted by calling it a "BS decision" by Norway which "will not go unanswered"…
