Russia and China offer the world an alternative to Western hegemony

President Vladimir Putin will travel to Beijing this week to attend ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of victory in World War II on the Asian front. For China, the commemoration is more than an historical ritual. It represents the culmination of a century-long struggle against foreign domination, from the Opium Wars of the mid-19th century to Japan’s defeat in 1945. Russia’s public recognition of that struggle – and the sacrifices of the Chinese people – carries immense symbolic weight for Beijing.

But Putin’s visit is not only a gesture toward history. It is a signal of unity. Russia and China are presenting the world with a shared vision, both of the past and of the future. For the Global South, it underscores that there is an alternative to Western hegemony. For the West, it is a reminder that this alternative cannot be dismissed.

The Trump administration’s attempt to pry Moscow and Beijing apart may have been Washington’s last opportunity to preserve undisputed global primacy. That chance is gone. By 2025, Russian-Chinese foreign policy coordination is closer than at any point in the past half century, and Putin’s Beijing visit will cement that reality.

Ukraine on the table

The war in Ukraine will inevitably be at the center of Putin’s discussions with Xi Jinping. China is keen to play a more active role in shaping a settlement, a role that aligns with Russian interests. Dozens of Western governments have become emotionally and politically entangled in daily support for Kiev.

By contrast, Moscow seeks the public backing of its BRICS partners, above all China. Beijing’s weight in global trade gives it tools to soften the EU’s aggressive posture. And Chinese leaders understand that today’s debates about Ukraine are not just about territory in Eastern Europe – they are negotiations over the emerging world order.

That order will not be stable unless all three nuclear superpowers – Russia, China and the United States – are involved in shaping it.

The forgotten Security Council

Moscow and Beijing also want to re-center world politics on the UN Security Council, which in recent years has been neglected by the West. A joint Russian-Chinese position can restore the body’s relevance and provide an institutional anchor for a multipolar world. Whether the United States chooses to engage is another question.

It is too early to say whether a three-power summit involving Russia, China, and the US – an echo of Yalta 80 years ago – can be convened. But if such a meeting were to take place, it would mark a genuine turning point in history. In Beijing, Putin and Xi will certainly explore their joint approach to this possibility.

The European Commission chief has again invoked the “Russian threat” to justify EU militarization

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has escalated her anti-Russia rhetoric, calling President Vladimir Putin a “predator” and reciting NATO’s talking point about a looming Russian threat to justify the EU’s push for accelerated militarization.

The remarks came on Friday in Riga, where the EC chief appeared alongside Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina at the start of what she described as a tour of the “EU’s frontline states.” The route includes Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland – all bordering Russia or Belarus – as well as Bulgaria and Romania.

“Putin is a predator,” von der Leyen claimed, accusing his mysterious “proxies” of targeting European societies “for years with hybrid attacks, with cyberattacks.” She went as far as to accuse Moscow of engaging in the “weaponization of migrants,” without providing specifics and omitting the bloc’s own controversial open-door policies, which have fueled internal backlash for over a decade.

She argued that the alleged Russian threat warranted the EU’s rearmament plan. “So, as we strengthen Ukraine’s defense, we must also take greater responsibility for our own defense,” she said.

In March, von der Leyen floated a plan to raise €800 billion ($934 billion) through debt and tax incentives to re-arm the EU. The European Council later approved a €150 billion borrowing mechanism to fund the initiative.

Moscow has condemned what it calls the West’s “reckless militarization,” while dismissing claims that it intends to attack NATO or EU states as “nonsense.” Russian officials, including Putin, have accused Western leaders of fearmongering to justify inflated military budgets and to cover up their economic failures.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently accused the EU of sliding into what he described as a “Fourth Reich,” saying the bloc has “plunged into a Russophobic frenzy, and its militarization is becoming uncontrolled.”

After US President Donald Trump ruled out the idea of NATO membership for Kiev, Ukraine’s European backers shifted to discussing “Article 5-like guarantees.” Policymakers have also considered sending troops to Ukraine as ‘peacekeepers’ and creating a buffer zone with Western patrols.

Russia has rejected the deployment of NATO troops to Ukraine in any form, insisting that a peace settlement must ensure Ukraine’s demilitarization, denazification, neutral and non-nuclear status, and recognition of the territorial realities.

Russia and China are working together to strengthen the role of the BRICS economic bloc in shaping global affairs and to reform the international financial system so it cannot be used as an instrument of discrimination and neocolonialism, President Vladimir Putin has said.

In an interview with Xinhua published ahead of his state visit to China, Putin hailed cooperation between Moscow and Beijing in multilateral formats such as the United Nations, the G20, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) – and especially “within BRICS to expand its role as a key pillar of global architecture.”

“We stand united in strengthening BRICS’ ability to address pressing global challenges, share similar views on regional and international security, and take a common stand against discriminatory sanctions that hinder the socioeconomic development of BRICS members and the world at large,” the Russian president said.

According to Putin, Russia and China are committed to reforming the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in order to create a “new financial system based on openness and true equity, providing equal and non-discriminatory access to its tools for all countries and reflecting the real standing of member states in the global economy.”

It is essential to end the use of finance as an instrument of neo-colonialism, which runs counter to the interests of the Global Majority. On the contrary, we seek progress for the benefit of all humanity.

The president noted that the two countries “share broad common interests and strikingly similar views on fundamental questions,” with a united vision of building “a just, multipolar world order, with a focus on the nations of the Global Majority.”

Putin’s official visit to China will take place August 31 to September 3, beginning with the SCO summit in Tianjin, followed by Victory Day events in Beijing. He will hold talks with President Xi Jinping, as well as the leader of another BRICS founding member, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Barrack made the assessment in an astonishing and candid interview with online personality Mario Nawfal, which went online late on Thursday. It was just one of many insights that Barrack, who is at the center of US diplomacy in the region, shared. In addition, he said that Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa will not sign the Abraham Accords with Israel and alluded to deeply strained ties between Egypt and Israel, which he said are no longer "talking to each other or cooperating".

Barrack is the US ambassador to Turkey but has become Trump’s envoy to the wider Eastern Mediterranean and the Caucasus. A billionaire real estate investor, Barrack, like his boss at the White House, has chaffed at the traditional US foreign policy establishment - including its preference for maintaining quiet ties with American establishment media. Instead, he has given shoot-from-the-hip style interviews. On Thursday, he called himself an “events-driven mercenary”.

“What’s going on in Gaza makes the rest of the Arab world totally freaked out,” Barrack said. “In Israel’s mind, these lines that were created by Sykes-Picot are meaningless. They will go where they want, when they want, and do what they want to protect the Israelis and their borders,” Barrack said.

The Sykes-Picot agreement was a secret agreement between Britain and France struck in 1916 during WWI that divided the Ottoman Empire’s territories in the Levant, fashioning the modern states of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Mandatory Palestine, the wide swath of land that was later partitioned to create Israel.

'Israel can't be so brutal'

Barrack visited Beirut this week as part of efforts to disarm Hezbollah and has been mediating talks between Syria and Israel. Pressed on whether Israel would conquer Lebanon or Syria, Barrack said he did not mean Israel wants to “take over” its neighbors, but will act against its foes.

“Does Israel have the capacity or the desire to really take over Lebanon? Absolutely. Why didn’t they do it? They have the capacity to do the same thing in Syria,” he said.

Stats Show SHOCKING Surge In ATTACKS On Churches In America

In 2024, the United States witnessed a significant uptick in acts of hostility targeting churches, with a total of 436 documented incidents—a sharp increase from 315 in 2023 and nearly double the 230 reported in 2022.

This data, compiled by the Family Research Council (FRC), highlights a troubling trend amid broader societal shifts, including a decline in regular religious attendance from 42% to 30% over the past two decades, according to Gallup polls.

The incidents spanned a wide range of hostile actions across 43 states. Vandalism was the most prevalent, accounting for 284 cases that included property destruction, defacement, burglary, and ransacking.

Arson followed with 55 events, encompassing both confirmed attempts and fires of uncertain origin, occasionally linked to individuals struggling with mental health.

Gun-related incidents surged to 28, more than doubling from 12 the previous year, involving threats, brandishing during services, and actual shootings. Bomb threats numbered 14, primarily hoaxes delivered via calls or emails.

Additionally, 47 other violent acts were recorded, such as assaults during church break-ins, exemplified by an event at Zion Baptist Church in Kentucky. Geographically, California led with 40 incidents, followed by Pennsylvania at 29, and Florida and New York tied at 25 each.

Motives behind these acts varied widely, from unknown causes and financial theft (like stealing copper wiring) to political disagreements on issues like sexuality, and even juvenile pranks.

Notably, pro-abortion motivations dropped dramatically to just 2 incidents, compared to 59 in 2022 following the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.

Hostility related to LGBT issues persisted at 33 cases, a slight decrease from 42 in 2023, while satanic motives fell to 1 from 12 the prior year.

Former Ukraine Parliament Speaker, EuroMaidan Leader Shot and Killed

Former speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament and leading figure in the EuroMaidan protests, Andriy Parubiy, has been shot and killed, President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed on Saturday.

Andriy Parubiy, who served as the chairman of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada parliament between 2016 and 2019, was shot and killed in the city of Lviv in western Ukraine in an apparent assassination.

Prior to ascending to the top ranks of the Ukrainian political system, Parubiy had been a leading street activist in the country, including during the so-called Orange Revolution of 2004 against then-presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovych as well as serving as a commandant the Western-backed EuroMaidan protests which toppled Yanukovych’s government in 2014.

The alleged involvement of the United States and European Union were cited as precipitating the Russian annexation of Crimea later that year and the decades-long conflict which culminated in the 2022 invasion by Moscow of Ukraine.

IDF reservist killed in suspected friendly fire incident in southern Gaza

An Israeli reservist was killed during fighting in the southern Gaza Strip earlier today, the IDF announces.

The slain soldier is named as Sgt. First Class (res.) Ariel Lubliner, 34, of the 6036 logistics unit of the 36th Division, from Kiryat Bialik.

The circumstances of his death are being investigated as suspected so-called friendly fire. A preliminary IDF investigation indicates he was killed by a bullet fired accidentally by another soldier.

Lubliner immigrated from Brazil about 10 years ago. He leaves his wife Barbara, an immigrant from Spain, and their nine-month-old son, Lior. Lubliner was due to finish this latest of numerous stints of reserve duty tomorrow, Channel 12 reports, and the family was set to fly to Brazil for a vacation.

The TV report calculates that Lubliner is the 900th soldier killed on all fronts since war erupted with Hamas’s invasion and massacre in southern Israel on October 7, 2023.

Dem Gov Mandates All State Colleges Provide Controversial Abortion Pills

Democrat Gov. JB Pritzker (IL) signed a bill earlier this month to mandate all state colleges and universities provide students access to the highly controversial abortion pill called mifepristone.

Pritzker said the bill — and another similarly extreme pro-abortion bill — are necessary to combat “anti-choice extremists” and advance “health care” for Illinois residents.

HB3709 “requires public universities in Illinois to offer students access to contraception and medication abortion on campus, beginning in the 2025-2026 school year,” a press release from Gov. Pritzker’s office says.

“Amending the Public Higher Education Act, HB3709 mandates that state colleges and universities must offer consultation appointments with health care professionals who can provide and dispense contraception and medication abortion to students,” the press release adds. “Further, schools with on-campus pharmacies must be able to dispense contraception and the abortion pill to students.”

The Democrat governor also signed HB3637, which would allow mifepristone for residents, even if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) deems the pill unsafe.

The bill specifically amends the state’s Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act so “medication that was previously approved by the FDA whose approval was revoked but is still considered effective by the World Health Organization (WHO), will not be considered in violation of the Act,” Pritzker’s office said. “This means that health care providers will not be violating Illinois law by prescribing drugs that are widely considered safe and effective but have had their FDA approvals revoked for political reasons—as anti-choice political have sought for mifepristone, the drug commonly used in medication abortions.”

“As governor, I will ensure that your medical decisions will be your own,” Pritzker said on August 22, the day he signed the bills. “I’m proud to be taking these steps, but I will not rest on this. Because we know that anti-choice extremists won’t. We will continue to activate and protest and march and deliver until every woman in this state gets the health care she deserves.”

Mifepristone, which is usually followed by misoprostol, aims to end the life of the unborn baby and expel it from the woman’s uterus. However, the drugs sometimes fail to expel all the fetal tissue, which can cause life-threatening complications. The safety of the drug has become a key issue in the fight over abortion and women’s safety.

An analysis released in April found that more than one in 10 women experienced a “serious adverse event” after taking the mifepristone abortion pill in 2023. This can include hemorrhaging, needing a blood transfusion, an emergency room visit, and even deadly conditions like sepsis.

That is about 22 times higher than what the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) listed on its label for the brand Mifeprex in 2023. The FDA cited clinical studies saying fewer than 0.5% of women suffered “serious adverse reactions” to mifepristone.

Back in June, FDA Commissioner Marty Makary committed to reviewing the pill.

“As the Commissioner of Food and Drugs, I am committed to conducting a review of mifepristone and working with the professional career scientists at the Agency who review this data,” Makary wrote in a letter to Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO). “As with all drugs, FDA continues to closely monitor the postmarketing safety data on mifepristone for the medical termination of early pregnancy.”

According to Newsweek, 446 large companies filed for bankruptcy during the first seven months of this year. That is the highest total that we have seen since 2010…

The U.S. saw a sharp increase in corporate bankruptcy filings in July, according to a recent report, reaching a post-COVID peak and placing 2025 on track to surpass last year’s total.

S&P Global Market Intelligence, the research and data arm of the credit-rating agency, found that filings by large public and private companies rose to 71 last month from 66 in June, marking the highest monthly tally since July 2020. So far in 2025, meanwhile, the total of 446 bankruptcy filings is the highest for this seven-month stretch since 2010.

In 2010, we were experiencing the tail end of the global financial crisis.

So there was a very good reason for why so many large companies were going bankrupt at that time.

Personal and business bankruptcy filings rose 11.5 percent in the twelve-month period ending June 30, 2025, compared with the previous year.

According to statistics released by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, annual bankruptcy filings totaled 542,529 in the year ending June 2025, compared with 486,613 cases in the previous year.

Business filings rose 4.5 percent, from 22,060 to 23,043 in the year ending June 30, 2025. Non-business bankruptcy filings rose 11.8 percent to 519,486, compared with 464,553 in the previous year.

Wow.

I had no idea that the bankruptcy numbers were that bad.

An 11.5 percent increase in bankruptcy filings in just one year is a really troubling sign.

It has thereby undermined freedom of the press while also revealing its fear of the truth. What does Israel have to hide?

British journalist Piers Morgan keeps asking why Israel forbids foreign journalists to enter Gaza. His question echoes far beyond his television studio. It resounds in the diplomatic arena, where more than 30 countries have demanded that Israel allow journalists to enter Gaza to report from the field. The goal of this demand is clear and simple – transparency, documentation and truth.

Suspected double cop killer Dezi Freeman had a sinister 'hate list' of local police officers, named and pictured, before he allegedly gunned two down in cold blood.

Members of the group drew up a list of names and ranks of officers they branded 'police thugs' from the nearby Myrtleford station, openly discussing how to 'name and shame' them.

'This guy is a doomsday prepper,' one former friend told Daily Mail.

'They grow all their own food on the property and preserve it.

'Dezi absolutely knows how to survive and you can bet he has a bunker close by, stocked up and ready for something like this.

'The man has spent most of his life planning for it.'

While it was initially believed Freeman had taken his wife Mali and children hostage, the friend said he 'let them go' to give himself a head start in the manhunt.

'He didn't want them slowing him down or getting hurt in the crossfire,' they added.

A keen hunter, Detective Thompson had previously dealt with Freeman and was believed to have established a rapport with him.

The other slain officer, Sen-Const De Waart, from Belgium, joined Victoria Police in 2018, and was a member of the Melbourne-based public order response team.
