IDF kills dozens of terrorists, destroys 5 miles of tunnels in Khan Yunis

Sept. 1, 2025

Israeli forces fighting in southern Gaza’s Khan Yunis over the past few months have killed dozens of terrorists, including those who participated in the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre, and destroyed five miles (eight kilometers) of terror tunnels, the IDF said on Monday.

The Kfir Infantry Brigade’s combat team, operating under the command of the 36th Armored Division, also destroyed Hamas “military” infrastructure, uncovered and neutralized large amounts of weaponry and advanced the establishment of the Magen Oz Corridor, designed to separate eastern and western Khan Yunis.

Golani Infantry Brigade troops are also operating in Khan Yunis. The unit’s commander, Col. Adi Ganon, addressed soldiers on Sunday to mark the start of the school year on Monday. “Five months of maneuvers in Rafah and Khan Yunis. A long way remains ahead of us.

In contrast, the Israeli students are at home, preparing their bags for school, filling their bottles with water, buying rolls for their morning sandwich, taking a hot shower,” the colonel said.

“They will go to sleep excited. Tomorrow, they will wake up, put on a white shirt, and happily go to school. If you are looking for a reason why you’re here today—here it is. Thanks to your spirit and way, dear Golani soldiers and IDF troops in all sectors, the people of Israel are in routine.”

Israeli forces are continuing to located and dismantle terrorist infrastructure in northern Gaza as well. Over the past 24 hours, the IDF said that artillery struck several terrorist infrastructure and observation posts that were used by terrorists to observe troops.

In addition, soldiers struck a structure that was used to fire an anti-tank missile at troops; no injuries were reported.

Artillery troops also dismantled a camera that was used by terrorists to observe troops. Furthermore, over the past week, IDF troops operating in Jabalia killed terrorists and dismantled underground infrastructure and explosive sites.

The northern Gaza activities come ahead of a major operation in one of the last Hamas strongholds, Gaza City.

At stormy cabinet meet, Netanyahu refuses IDF chief’s push for vote on hostage deal

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused to hold a vote on a proposed hostage-ceasefire deal at a stormy cabinet meeting that went on until the early hours of Monday morning, saying it was not on the table and adding that US President Donald Trump had pushed him not to accept a partial deal.

The premier’s dismissal of the topic came despite far-right ministers pressing him to hold a vote to officially reject the deal, while the IDF chief of staff and some cabinet ministers pushed for it to be accepted, according to multiple leaks from the closed-door meeting that were published on Monday morning.

The security cabinet meeting in Tel Aviv, which lasted almost six hours, focused almost entirely on the Israel Defense Forces’ plans to take over Gaza City, according to reports in Hebrew media.

The government has advanced the takeover plan in recent weeks despite the Hamas terror group saying several weeks ago it had agreed to a phased hostage-truce deal almost identical to one Israel had previously approved.

In the interim, Jerusalem had officially given up on phased deals, demanding a comprehensive agreement to return all the captives in one go and see Hamas surrender.

According to reports, IDF Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir, who has been widely reported to oppose the Gaza City takeover plan, insisted on raising the issue of the proposed deal even though it was not on the agenda.

The deal — which Hamas said it agreed to on August 18 — would see 10 living hostages released and the remains of 18 dead hostages returned, in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian security prisoners and some 1,000 Gazan detainees, and a 60-day ceasefire, during which negotiations would be held for the return of the remaining 20 hostages, of whom 10-12 are believed to be alive, and a permanent end to the war.

Zamir told cabinet members that “there is a framework on the table, [and] we must take it,” according to Channel 12, which said that, had Zamir not raised the issue it would not have come up in the meeting.

The IDF chief of staff reportedly told ministers that Operation Gideon’s Chariots — the IDF offensive launched after the previous hostage-truce deal collapsed, which ended with the military in control of some 75% of the Strip — created the conditions for the hostages’ return.

Moreover, he said, the IDF is capable of returning to combat if the deal goes through and no resolution to the war is agreed to after the 60-day ceasefire ends.

According to reports, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and Intelligence Minister Gila Gamliel joined Zamir in supporting the deal, citing among other reasons the diplomatic headwinds that Israel is facing amid a wave of Western allies recognizing a Palestinian state.

PM: Deal agreed to by Hamas is ‘not on the table’

Netanyahu, however, was said by Hebrew media to have told Zamir, and the rest of those present, that “a partial deal is not relevant,” reiterating the stance he adopted last month after previously supporting phased hostage-truce deals throughout the war.

After Netanyahu changed his position, Hamas said it accepted the phased-deal outline, after for months rejecting previous versions of it that Israel at the time had backed.

Far-right ministers Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich have vocally opposed the proposal, as they have opposed previous hostage-truce deals, including the deals Israel agreed to in November 2023 and January 2025.

At the meeting Sunday, Ben Gvir and others reportedly pushed Netanyahu to hold a vote on the current proposal in order to officially strike it down.

“There is no need for a vote; it’s not on the table,” Netanyahu responded, according to several Hebrew media outlets.

The premier is said to have explained his opposition to the deal by asserting that Israel’s diplomatic backing, including from the US, is “not limitless,” and that withdrawing from some of the territories captured in the Gideon’s Chariots operation would be a “heavy price.”

PM tells cabinet Trump told him not to strike partial deal

Moreover, Netanyahu reportedly told cabinet ministers that US President Donald Trump has urged him not to accept any partial ceasefire and hostage-release deal with Hamas and to instead fight the terror group “with full force.”

“Forget the partial deals. Go in with full force and finish this,” Netanyahu was quoted as saying Trump told him.

Before the security cabinet meeting, Channel 12 news cited unnamed sources as saying Trump was increasing pressure on Netanyahu to move more rapidly toward defeating Hamas, after losing faith in the efficacy of ceasefire and hostage release talks.

According to the Ynet news site, Netanyahu also backed an argument made at the meeting by Smotrich and New Hope MK Ze’ev Elkin, who said the 60-day ceasefire would in practice set the military back six months, because it would have to recover ground that a deal would compel it to withdraw from.

Settlements minister accuses IDF chief of cowardice

Amid the debate, a heated confrontation broke out between Zamir and far-right Settlements Minister Orit Strock, with the latter accusing the IDF chief of staff of cowardice by way of a biblical quotation.

“Is there anyone afraid and disheartened? Let him go back to his home, lest the courage of his comrades flag like his,” Strock said, in response to Zamir’s support for a hostage deal, according to the Kan public broadcaster.

Hitting back, Zamir declared that he had two missions — “preventing a nuclear Iran and destroying Hamas,” leading Strock to once again recite the quotation, from the Book of Deuteronomy.

In response, Zamir said that he had called for the recent Israeli operation in Iran, declaring that he “approves strikes everywhere. No one is afraid and disheartened.”

“If you want blind discipline, bring somebody else,” he declared, prompting Netanyahu to interject, “I don’t want blind discipline, but also not someone who oversteps [his authority].”

Strock also took issue with the IDF’s practice thus far of avoiding operating in areas where hostages are believed to be held, telling the cabinet, “There can’t be no-go areas in Gaza, it endangers the residents of [Israel’s] Gaza border area and the south,” according to quotes published by Channel 12.

“To win the war we have to control all these areas, and not leave them as bubbles of terror above and below ground,” she added.

With respect to concern over the hostages’ fate, Strock said: “We have to make a great effort not to harm them.”

In a post to X on Monday after quotes from the meeting leaked, Strock said that by invoking the verse about fearful soldiers, which part of last week’s Torah portion, she meant to warn the cabinet about the danger of demoralizing troops — not to signal that any individual at the meeting was himself cowardly.

Despite the clashes, Zamir reportedly told the cabinet that the IDF will carry out whatever instructions it receives from the political echelon, even if it disagrees with them — winning him plaudits at the meeting, according to the Israel Hayom daily.

West Bank annexation plan said limited to Jordan Valley

Among the other topics discussed in the meeting was a plan to potentially annex the West Bank; Israel Hayom reported Sunday, citing a senior government official, adding that the plan, which is being pushed by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, only deals with the Jordan Valley, not the West Bank as a whole, to the chagrin of the cabinet’s far-right flank.

After the Strock-Zamir incident was reported, Blue and White-National Unity leader MK Benny Gantz, himself a former IDF chief of staff, tweeted: “What have we come to?

A cabinet that, at a time of war, supports draft evasion” — a reference to the government’s effort to exempt ultra-Orthodox men from mandatory military service —

“is giving grades to the IDF chief of staff, who sends our heroic soldiers into battle every day, in Gaza, [the West Bank], Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Iran?”

“The citizens of Israel don’t need a cabinet like this. They deserve a cabinet that backs the IDF, not one that puts spokes in its wheels,” Gantz wrote. “That must be a cabinet of servants — not a cabinet of whiners.”

Hostage Families Forum: PM ‘sacrificing the hostages’

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum responded to Netanyahu’s leaked statement that a phased deal is no longer on the table.

“Netanyahu, the father of phased releases, founder of the ‘selections’ method, opposes the method that he initiated and the agreement he already approved,” the forum said, employing an analogy frequently made by opponents of phased release deals that likens them to “selections” at Nazi death camps between those conscripted for forced labor and those sent directly to gas chambers.

“The truth has come out: This is not a negotiation strategy, it’s a ‘torpedo’ strategy and a burial of the deal.

Netanyahu is sacrificing the hostages and the soldiers on the altar of his political survival, at a time when an actual deal is on the table, approved by Hamas, that could turn into a framework to return the last of the hostages and end the war.”

Ben-Gvir plans to designate Global Sumud Flotilla activists as terrorists, seize boats

Updated: SEPTEMBER 1, 2025 01:01

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir presented a plan to the cabinet aimed at halting the largest flotilla ever planned to sail to Gaza, comprising 50 ships with activists from 44 countries.

Ben-Gvir presented the plan at a discussion on Sunday regarding steps to stop the flotilla, attended by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.

Ben-Gvir emphasized that the flotilla, despite its claimed humanitarian intentions, would be regarded as an attempt to undermine Israel's sovereignty and support Hamas in Gaza.

"The proposed plan lays out measures, reinforcing Israel's unwavering position in safeguarding its borders and ensuring national security", he stated.

Under the new suggested directive, all activists arrested in connection with the flotilla will be detained in Israel’s Ketziot and Damon prisons, which are used to hold terrorists under stringent conditions typically reserved for security prisoners.

Activists to be held in terrorist prisons

The activists will be held in prolonged detention, unlike the previous practice of releasing detainees after brief overnight stays.

Activists will be denied special privileges such as television, radio, and specialized food, in an effort to impose a clear message that supporting terrorism will not be tolerated.

“We will not allow individuals who support terrorism to live in comfort. They will face the full consequences of their actions,” Ben-Gvir said.

In a move to prevent any further efforts to disrupt Israel’s security, Ben-Gvir suggested that all ships participating in the flotilla will be confiscated and repurposed for use by Israeli law enforcement.

The seizure would be fully legal, since the government believes that the flotilla is not only a political act but an illegal attempt to bypass the blockade.

In his public statements following the meeting, Ben-Gvir stressed that Israel would not tolerate “soft arrests” or quiet returns of flotilla participants.

"We must create a clear deterrent. Anyone who chooses to collaborate with Hamas and support terrorism will meet a firm and unyielding response from Israel,” he said.

Ben-Gvir pointed out that after spending weeks in detention under harsh conditions, supporters of terror would think twice before attempting another such flotilla.

He also stressed that these measures were part of Israel’s broader effort to maintain national security and prevent any further escalation.

"The Israeli Navy and law enforcement are fully prepared to address any security threats that arise,” Ben-Gvir concluded.

Ben-Gvir’s action plan is expected to face criticism from human rights organizations and some international bodies, who may argue that the detention conditions violate international law.

However, Israeli officials have argued that the flotillas are not merely acts of political expression but direct attempts to assist a designated terrorist organization that seeks to undermine Israel’s right to exist.

The Global Sumud Flotilla, which set sail on Sunday from Barcelona, will be the fourth attempt to break the maritime blockade on Gaza so far this year. "

It is the largest attempt yet to break the long-standing Israeli blockade of the Palestinian territory by sea", say the organizers.

Among the crew of the flotilla is Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, who has said that "little by little every day people are waking up to this genocide" and criticises the world's silence in the face of Israel's disregard for international law.

Irish actor Liam Cunningham, known for his role in Games of Thrones, will also take part. In a news conference before the departure in Barcelona, Cunningham played a video showing a girl singing while planning her own funeral.

The girl, Fatima, died four days ago, he said.

“What sort of world have we slid into where children are making their own funeral arrangements?” the Irish actor told reporters.

US temporarily stops most visa approvals for Palestinians - NYT

Updated: SEPTEMBER 1, 2025 09:40

The US has suspended approval on most visitor visas for Palestinian passport holders, the New York Times reported on Sunday evening, citing US officials.

Officials interviewed by NYT noted that the measures were in effect on a temporary basis.

The measures would prevent Palestinians from the West Bank and in the diaspora from entering the US on several non-immigrant visas, NYT added, citing four US officials who were familiar with an internal State Department memo.

The suspensions affect those seeking visas for medical treatment, university studies, visits to loved ones, and business travel, the newspaper reported.

The measures cover anyone who only holds a Palestinian passport and do not apply to Palestinians with dual citizenship or those who have obtained visas.

The State Department confirmed to NYT that it had told diplomats to enforce the restrictions.

It also said that it was taking “concrete steps in compliance with US law and our national security in regard to announced visa restrictions” for Palestinians.

The department told consular officials to enact Section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 to refuse visas to anyone using a Palestinian passport in their application, at least on a temporary basis, NYT noted.

US denies PA officials entrance to US for UNGA

This comes after the State Department announced on Friday that it would not allow Palestinian Authority officials to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York next month.

“The Trump administration has been clear: it is in our national security interests to hold the PLO and PA accountable for not complying with their commitments and for undermining the prospects for peace,” the State Department noted in a release.

The PA denied the accusations and said that the decision “stands in clear contradiction to international law and the UN Headquarters Agreement.”

Houthis say they launched missile at Israeli-owned tanker near Saudi Arabia's Yanbu

Updated: SEPTEMBER 1, 2025 11:51

Yemen's Houthis said on Monday they launched a missile towards the Liberia-flagged Israeli-owned tanker 'Scarlet Ray' ship near Saudi Arabia's Red Sea port city of Yanbu.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Sunday that it received a report of an incident 40 nautical miles southwest of Yanbu.

A vessel reported "a splash in close proximity from an unknown projectile and heard a loud bang," the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said, adding that the vessel's crew were all safe and it was continuing to its next voyage.

In a later update, Ambrey said it assessed the vessel to be "aligned with" the targets of Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis' profile given that it was publicly Israeli-owned.

Neither firm identified the party responsible for the incident, but UKMTO said authorities were investigating.

A Liberian-flagged chemical tanker is undamaged and still under the command of its captain, the vessel's manager said.

"We are aware of security reports alleging that our managed vessel Scarlet Ray was the target of a suspected Houthi attack," Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping said in a statement.

"We confirm that the vessel has not sustained any damage and continues to operate under the command of its master," adding that all crew members were safe and accounted for.

Yanbu is a port city located on Western Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast.

Saudi Arabia launched military campaign in Yemen against Houthis

Saudi Arabia led a coalition that launched a military campaign in Yemen from early 2015 to support the Gulf-backed government against the Houthis, who had seized the capital Sanaa in 2014.

The coalition has in the past foiled attempted assaults using explosive-laden boats it says were launched by the Houthis.

This is a developing story.

Sudan Army Drone Strike Kills at Least 12 in Darfur, Monitors Say

Updated: September 1, 2025

At least 12 people were killed on Saturday after a Sudanese army drone strike hit a clinic in Nyala, South Darfur, according to monitors tracking the war.

The strike targeted the Yashfeen clinic, which lies in territory controlled by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Victims included medical staff and civilians, and monitors warned that the death toll could rise as more casualties are confirmed.

The Sudanese army has not issued a statement on the attack.

Meanwhile, in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur and the army’s last stronghold in the region, RSF shelling killed at least seven people and injured 71 others, local medical officials said.

The city has been under a grinding siege for more than a year, leaving residents facing famine, communication blackouts, and collapsing health services.

Sudan has been engulfed in civil war since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the army and the RSF.

Darfur has become one of the hardest-hit regions, with both sides accused of targeting civilian infrastructure, worsening an already catastrophic humanitarian crisis.

Venezuela Prepares for U.S. Attack With Armed Drones

September 1, 2025

As tensions simmer in the Caribbean, Venezuela is making a bold and unmistakable show of its military readiness.

As the Miami Herald informs us, the Maduro regime is actively preparing for a potential conflict with the United States, and at the center of its strategy is a fleet of sophisticated, armed drones designed by Iran.

This isn’t just a diplomatic threat; it’s a tangible military buildup.

By assembling and deploying these Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs), Venezuela is sending a clear message to Washington: it has a new, modern, and lethal capability, and it is ready to use it.

This development dramatically raises the stakes in the already tense relationship between the two nations.

The Mohajer-6: An Iranian Predator in the Caribbean

The drone at the heart of this strategy is the Mohajer-6. This is a serious piece of military hardware.

Developed by Iran, it’s a combat-proven UCAV with a range of over 1,200 miles and the ability to carry a payload of precision-guided missiles. It’s designed for both long-range surveillance and deadly, targeted strikes.

What makes this situation particularly significant is that these drones are not just being bought off the shelf. As part of a deepening strategic alliance between Caracas and Tehran, these advanced drones are being assembled inside Venezuela.

This gives the Venezuelan military a domestic capacity to build and maintain its own drone arsenal, a major leap in its technological and military self-sufficiency.

These are the very drones that have been deployed to Venezuela’s eastern coast to monitor US and Guyanese naval movements in the disputed Essequibo region, acting as the nation’s new eyes and swords in the sky.

A Strategy of Asymmetric Warfare

Venezuela knows it cannot compete with the United States in a conventional war. It cannot match the US carrier for carrier or jet for jet. Instead, it is embracing a strategy of asymmetric warfare, and armed drones are the perfect weapon for it.

A fleet of Mohajer-6 drones provides a low-cost, high-impact way to project power. They can be used to threaten high-value targets, like naval vessels, with a degree of plausible deniability.

They can conduct surveillance for days on end without putting a pilot’s life at risk. A swarm of these armed drones could pose a serious threat to any military force, forcing them to expend extremely expensive air defense missiles to counter a relatively cheap aircraft.

This is the new playbook for middle-powers looking to stand up to a superpower. You don’t need a massive air force if you have a smart, capable, and lethal drone force.

The Contradiction at Home

The irony of this military buildup is staggering when you consider the situation inside Venezuela.

At the exact same time the government is promoting its new combat drone factory, it has imposed a draconian, year-long ban on all civilian drone flights.

While the state builds and flies machines designed to carry missiles, the average Venezuelan citizen is forbidden from flying a simple camera drone.

The government is embracing the most lethal application of drone technology for itself, while telling its people that the same technology is too dangerous for them to use for art, commerce, or recreation. It’s a profound and telling contradiction.

The DroneXL Take

As a Venezuelan watching this from afar, this story is a potent mix of national pride and deep unease.

On one hand, the technical achievement of assembling and operating a fleet of modern combat drones is, from a purely engineering perspective, impressive. It shows a level of technical sophistication that many wouldn’t expect.

But on the other, more personal hand, it is deeply troubling. This is the government of my home country preparing for war, using the very technology I love as a primary weapon.

The focus on military hardware, the alliance with Iran, and the aggressive posture towards the US all point to a future of conflict, not prosperity.

The most painful part is the hypocrisy of the civilian drone ban. By building an arsenal of armed drones while grounding its own citizens, the regime is making a clear statement: this powerful technology is for the state to control, to threaten, and to wield as a weapon.

For the people, it is forbidden. It’s a grim reality that highlights the vast gap between the government’s priorities and the freedoms of its people.

This isn’t just about military strategy; it’s about who gets to participate in the future of flight. And right now in Venezuela, the answer is clear: only the state.

Historic first as Royal Navy makes drone delivery between ships

1 September 2025

A Malloy T-150 quadcopter flew from flagship HMS Prince of Wales to destroyer HMS Dauntless during the UK Carrier Strike Group deployment – carrying critical supplies, including spare and repair parts from ship to ship.

The drone was flown autonomously during take off and sorties for just over a mile and was subsequently controlled by crews on Dauntless to guide it onto the ship’s flight deck and make a safe landing.

The aim of the trial is to provide a cheap and efficient alternative to using helicopters or boat transfer to make deliveries and free them up to focus on operational tasks.

It comes as the Royal Navy seeks to equip its Queen Elizabeth-class carriers with hybrid air wings, including fast jets, long-range weapons and a range of advanced drones and deliver on its plans set out in the UK’s Strategic Defence Review.

Lieutenant Matt Parfitt, 700X Pioneer Flight Commander said: “This is a key milestone for the trial, achieved by all the hard work that everyone has put in.

I’m proud to have achieved this first for the Royal Navy and excited to progress further over the duration of the deployment.”

Captain Colin McGannity, Commander Air Group, UK Carrier Strike Group, said: “This milestone in the Malloy trials is a step toward the vision of a fully integrated hybrid carrier air wing.

By taking some of the logistics burden, Malloy will allow our naval helicopters to concentrate on their core outputs, while delivering, rapid, more efficient resupply across the whole Strike Group.

“The really exciting bit is that we then plan to incorporate these lessons to be able to use UAVs for many other roles, including options for warfighting.”

The drones currently deployed on Operation Highmast – the name of the UK Carrier Strike Group’s eight-month deployment to the Indo-Pacific – have carried out nearly 150 deck landings and flown more than 20 hours of sorties.

In the latest phase, as HMS Prince of Wales and her escort warships made for port visits in Japan, the Malloy drone – an eight-bladed system operated by a crew of two able to carry up to 68kg and fly up to 60mph – was launched as part of a trial by 700X Naval Air Squadron.

The T-150 drone is made by British company Malloy Aeronautics, which has been owned by BAE Systems since February 2024, and produces a variety of Uncrewed Air Systems designed for civilian and military purposes.

Ongoing support for the British defence industry delivers on the government’s Plan for Change, positioning defence as both a protector of the nation and a driver of prosperity, innovation, and global influence.

Luke Pollard, Minister for the Armed Forces, said: “The Royal Navy is leading the way in shaping the future of Hybrid Air Wings, with the impressive progress showcased during Carrier Strike Group 25.

Embracing autonomy is pivotal to the way we will operate in the future, and this achievement stands as a powerful example of our armed forces working seamlessly alongside British industry to deliver cutting-edge innovation and capability at sea.”

Neil Appleton, CEO of Malloy Aeronautics, said:

“This is a very proud moment to see the T-150 delivering real benefit for the Royal Navy, supporting vital logistics operations with an easy to operate and low-cost solution.

The trials demonstrate the value that Uncrewed Air Systems can bring to current, complex and costly operations.”

HMS Prince of Wales is currently in Japan following operations in the Mediterranean, Middle East, India and Australia since deploying in April.
