European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said in an interview with Radio Classique on Monday that efforts to remove Fed Chair Jerome Powell or Fed Governor Lisa Cook would "represent a very serious danger for the U.S. economy and the world economy."

"If U.S. monetary policy were no longer independent and instead dependent on the dictates of this or that person, then I believe that the effect on the balance of the American economy could, as a result of the effects this would have around the world, be very worrying, because it is the largest economy in the world," Lagarde explained.

Trump has repeatedly threatened to fire Powell, who he appointed as chairman in 2017, for not cutting the Fed's benchmark federal funds rate – though he has backed off those threats this summer as Powell's term is set to expire in May 2026.

England’s migrant hotel protests escalated on Sunday as clashes broke out between demonstrators and police in Epping, Essex. The unrest followed a Court of Appeal decision to overturn an injunction that would have temporarily stopped the Bell Hotel from housing asylum seekers.

Sunday’s events culminated in the arrest of Sarah White, a candidate for Nigel Farage’s Reform Party, after she hung a Union flag from a nearby public building.

Good thing Jackie Alemany, co-host of MSNBC's The Weekend, wasn't being dramatic on Sunday. Otherwise, she might have said something like "The continued existence of all life on earth hangs in the balance!"

Instead, the utterly undramatic Alemany merely said that if Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook was fired, "The stability of the global economy hangs in the balance." Alemany warned that global markets could enter a "red zone" if Cook's tenure went kaput.

If her continued membership on the Federal Reserve Board was so vital to the world's economy, perhaps Cook should have considered that before making allegedly false statements on multiple mortgage applications!

Alemany asked former Obama aide Norm Eisen, a lawyer representing Cook, a very simple question: "Did she commit mortgage fraud?"

Eisen declined to deny that Cook committed fraud. He chose instead to "stick with what we've said in argument and in the papers."

Not exactly the kind of outraged, flat denial of criminal activity that you might expect from a defense lawyer!
