Construction is causing ongoing and permanent road closures around the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, in September 2025. These closures are part of the Medical Center Addition and Alterations (MCAA) project and may affect how you access the campus.
Recent and ongoing closures
Brown Drive: The area of Brown Drive between the Liberty Zone (Building 39) and the North Garage (Building 63) is closed due to a construction fence. Access to the North Garage from Brown Drive is now entry-only.
Building closures: In preparation for demolition, Buildings 2 and 7 are no longer accessible from the outside. Corridors on the second through fourth floors have also been closed.
North Garage (Building 63): This garage, along with Liberty Garage (Building 54), remains open for use. However, the exit from the North Garage onto Brown Drive has been converted into a pedestrian path.
Navigating the campus
Pedestrian Connector: An underground connector is available to navigate between the medical center's North and South complexes.
New map: Because of the extensive changes, visitors should consult the "Finding Your Way Around" brochure available on the Walter Reed website before arriving.
Allow extra time: Construction may cause delays, so it is advisable to allow extra time to get to your destination on campus.
