There’s a ‘golden opportunity’ to pay 0% capital gains under Trump’s ‘big beautiful bill,’ experts say

PUBLISHED TUE, SEP 2 20258:36 AM EDTUPDATED 52 MIN AGO

 For 2025, you’re eligible for the 0% long-term capital gains rate with taxable income of $48,350 or less for single filers, or $96,700 or less for married couples filing jointly.

 President Donald Trump’s “big beautiful bill” added tax breaks that could expand eligibility for the 0% capital gains bracket.

 That 0% bracket could offer unique financial planning opportunities, experts say.

Many investors don’t know about the 0% capital gains bracket, which allows you to “harvest gains,” or sell profitable assets, without triggering taxes. With new deductions added for 2025, more investors could qualify for the 0% bracket under President Donald Trump’s “big beautiful bill.″

That could offer a “golden opportunity” to sell investments at 0% capital gains, along with other tax strategies, said Tommy Lucas, a certified financial planner at Moisand Fitzgerald Tamayo in Orlando, Florida.

Here are some key things investors need to know, according to financial experts.

How the 0% capital gains bracket works

Assets owned for more than one year qualify for long-term capital gains, levied at 0%, 15% or 20%, based on taxable income. There’s also a 3.8% surcharge for higher earners, which brings the total to 23.8% for some investors.

For 2025, you qualify for the 0% long-term capital gains rate if your taxable income is $48,350 or less for single filers, or $96,700 or less for married couples filing jointly.

You calculate taxable income by subtracting the greater of the standard or itemized deductions from your adjusted gross income. However, if you sell investments, those gains count toward taxable income for the bracket.

Still, with a higher standard deduction, a temporary $6,000 deduction for older Americans, and other tax breaks added via Trump’s legislation, more investors could fall into the 0% bracket for 2025, experts say.

Use the 0% bracket for ‘tax-gain harvesting’

One benefit of the 0% long-term capital gains bracket is a strategy known as “tax-gain harvesting,” or strategically selling profitable brokerage account assets during lower-income years.

It’s the “perfect window to trim concentrated positions or rebalance portfolios tax-free,” said Jared Gagne, a CFP and private wealth manager at Claro Advisors in Boston.

Others use the 0% capital gains bracket to sell investments and quickly rebuy to “reset their cost basis,” or the asset’s original purchase price, according to CFP Andrew Herzog, associate wealth manager at The Watchman Group in Plano, Texas.

Increasing your cost basis decreases your profit, which could lead to future tax savings, he said.Of course, you need to consider how these strategies fit into your broader financial plan, including legacy goals, experts say.

For example, if you’re planning for adult children to inherit profitable assets from your brokerage account, they would already receive a “stepped-up basis,” based on the market value on your date of death.

PBS, NPR stations struggle with Trump-fueled government funding cuts

(THIS ARTICLE SHOWS THEY NEVER NEEDED FUNDING IN THE FIRST PLACE. He goes on to say, some stations need our help, they can’t fundraise, but apparently they can do it themselves or all together.

The author attempts to say how bad and mean it was to cut off money, but if they want to propagandize the US, they don’t deserve funding.)

By DAVID BAUDER Updated 5:22 PM EDT, August 31, 2025

NEW YORK (AP) — Coping with a sudden loss in federal funding, PBS affiliate KSPS in Spokane, Washington, faced a surprise extra hurdle. Many of its contributing members — at one point almost half — lived in Canada, and they were withdrawing support out of anger at President Donald Trump’s desire to make the country the 51st member of the United States.

When Congress decided this summer to eliminate $1.1 billion allocated to public broadcasting, it left some 330 PBS and 246 NPR stations, each with unique issues related to their communities and history, to figure out what that means.

Many launched emergency fund drives and are heartened by the response. The national NPR and PBS networks are reducing expected dues payments, and a philanthropic effort focused on the hardest-hit stations is taking shape. No stations have shut down, but job and programming cuts are already beginning.

In Spokane, KSPS has always tried to keep its requests for member donations separate from appeals for public funding. Not anymore. Congress left the station with a $1.2 million hole to fill, about 18% of its budget, and the station is using that as a pretext to seek help from listeners.

“We have definitely seen some attrition from our Canadian members,” said Skyler Reep, the station’s interim general manager.

Pleas for donations exceed expectations in many parts of country

Long suspicious of a liberal bent to public media news coverage, Republicans in Congress responded to President Donald Trump’s wishes in July and eliminated funding for the systems. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which distributes the funding, has taken steps to shut down.

In some parts of the country, the answer to pleas for help have exceeded expectations. Public radio station WHQR in Wilmington, N.C. raised more than $200,000 in three days, filling a $174,000 hole and then some. It’s a small community growing fast with an influx of retirees, many who depend on the station’s news to learn about their new home, said general manager Kevin Crane.

With $525,000 gone from its budget, Hawaii Public Radio has already raised $650,000 in an emergency fund drive. “It’s a validation that what you’re doing is essential to the community and is appreciated by the community,” said Meredith Artley, president and CEO. The 2023 wildfires in Maui and their aftermath were covered steadily by Hawaii Public Radio news reporters.

“The initial response in terms of support for both stations and the NPR network has been extraordinary,” said Katherine Maher, NPR president. “People did a lot of work leading up to the vote, in actions and calls. When that did not prove convincing, they turned to direct support.”

Stations across the country have stories that make them smile: the youngster from Florida who collected money for public stations in Alaska, sending a note written in crayon; the regular $300 donor who came in to PBS SoCal with a $100,000 check, one of three six-figure donations the station has received….

McDonald’s to expand value menu as CEO says the chain aims to reach more customers(Bullshit)

Published Tue, Sep 2 20257:30 AM EDTUpdated Tue, Sep 2 2025

Key Points

• McDonald’s is bringing back its Extra Value Meals as it tries to appeal to price-sensitive customers.

• Customers will save 15% on the combo meals compared to buying the entree, fries and a drink separately.

• CEO Chris Kempczinski told CNBC the company is seeing a “two-tiered economy” right now.

In this article

• MCD+3.94 (+1.26%)

McDonald’s on Tuesday announced that it is expanding its value offerings in a bid to reach price-conscious diners.

Starting Monday, the fast-food giant is bringing back its Extra Value Meals, which were last promoted before the Covid-19 pandemic. Customers will save 15% on the combo meals compared with buying the entree, fries and a drink separately, the company said.

For more than a year, McDonald’s and its rivals have been relying on discounts and deals to lure customers back to their restaurants. Traffic to fast-food chains has been shrinking, fueled by a pullback in spending by low-income consumers. Last summer, McDonald’s rolled out its $5 value meal and extended the promotion past its initial run. It later added a buy one, get one for $1 deal to its menu as well.

The eight combo meals stretch across the McDonald’s menu and include a Sausage McMuffin with Egg; Sausage Egg and Cheese McGriddle; Egg McMuffin; Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit; Big Mac; 10-piece Chicken McNuggets; any Quarter Pounder burger; and any McCrispy Sandwich.

To promote the expansion of its value menu, McDonald’s will sell a Sausage McMuffin with Egg with a hash brown and a small coffee for $5, and a Big Mac with medium fries and a medium soft drink for $8 for a limited time. (it all sucks big time, and tastes like shit) The new meals are meant to reach the customers who are not already using McDonald’s mobile app for deals or buying the chain’s existing value menu items, CEO Chris Kempczinski said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Tuesday morning. That’s roughly half of the chain’s customer base.

“Particularly with lower and middle-income consumers, they’re feeling under a lot of pressure right now,” Kempczinski said. “What we see is it’s really a two-tier economy right now.” (are you fucking kidding me, a fish sandwich cut in half on the bun and cut more in the fish, it’s $4.50 for the sucking sandwiches)

On McDonald’s latest earnings conference call in early August, he again underlined the fast-food sector’s reliance on visits from low-income consumers. “Reengaging the low-income consumer is critical, as they typically visit our restaurants more frequently than middle- and high-income consumers,” Kempczinski said.

McDonald’s has more deals planned for later this year, too. Starting in November, the chain will offer its Sausage, Egg and Cheese McGriddles for $5 and 10-piece Chicken McNuggets meals for $8.

“McDonald’s USA is laser-focused on delivering value and affordability for our customers (LIE==), and I’m incredibly proud of how our franchisees and teams continue to step up to make it a reality,” McDonald’s U.S. President Joe Erlinger said in a statement Tuesday.

They have they cut every hamburger, chicken and fish sandwich by half, they taste horrible, and they raised the price, at least 35%.

E. Jean Carroll Is Seeking Relevance Again, Targeting Trump in New Documentary.Sept. 2, 2025

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: E. Jean Carroll’s allegations of sexual assault and defamation against President Donald J. Trump, and related legal battles, are the focus of a new documentary, Ask E Jean, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: E. Jean Carroll, President Trump, director Ivy Meeropol, and Trump attorney Alina Habba.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The documentary premiered at the Telluride Film Festival this year, covering events from Carroll’s lawsuits against Trump.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Fifty percent of my answers were bad. I thought I knew everything at the time, particularly about women in the workplace. If you want to get ahead, use your looks.” – E. Jean Carroll

🎯IMPACT: The film sheds light on Carroll’s lawfare campaign against Trump, but may provide an opening for President Trump to file his own defamation case.

IN FULL

A new documentary chronicling E. Jean Carroll’s lawfare campaign against President Donald J. Trump debuted at the Telluride Film Festival this week,as questions about Carroll’s motivations and credibility continue. The film, Ask E Jean, directed by Ivy Meeropol, granddaughter of convicted Soviet spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, centers on Carroll’s two lawsuits against Trump: one for defamation and another for sexual assault, stemming from her claim that Trump assaulted her in a department store in the mid-1990s.

Trump has denied the allegations and is appealing both verdicts, which resulted in combined damages of nearly $90 million.

Carroll, a former advice columnist for Elle magazine, gave an interview to Variety alongside Meeropol on the documentary. In it, Carroll describes the deposition process, led by Trump’s then-attorney Alina Habba, as grueling. “Most people don’t know that you have to go to a trial before you go to a trial,” Carroll said. She said Habba was “brutal,” raising arguments that made the deposition “particularly challenging.” Habba now serves as Acting U.S. Attorney and Special Assistant to the U.S. Attorney General.

Carroll has herself acknowledged that elements of her story appear strange. For instance, she claims it took place in a prestigious New York City department store, in changing rooms on a busy floor that are normally locked and watched over by an attendant. She claims that, inexplicably, the floor was deserted and the changing rooms unmanned and unlocked at the time of the attack.

The 81-year-old has accused many men and boys of attacking her over the years, including a small boy, a babysitter’s boyfriend, a camp counsellor, a dentist, an unnamed college date, an unnamed former boss, and former CBS executive Les Moonves. She has seemingly never reported any of them to the police—including President Trump, whom she has only pursued civilly.

The documentary positions Carroll as a feminist figure confronting powerful men. However, critics argue the film glosses over key details about Carroll’s motivations. She previously admitted in court that her claims about Trump gained traction only after her memoir failed to sell.“The book was not selling, so I tried to talk about [Trump],” she testified. She also confirmed that anti-Trump attorney George Conway encouraged her to file the lawsuit after explaining that a civil case would allow the decades-old allegation to be heard in court.

InApril 2024, Carroll also came under scrutiny when police seized an unregistered firearm from her home, following a report by The National Pulse.

J.D. Vance Urges English Patriots to ‘Push Back’ Against Suppression of St. George’s Cross.

PULSE POINTS

❓WHAT HAPPENED: U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance is encouraging British campaigners to resist attempts to suppress England’s Saint George’s Cross flag, amidst backlash from municipal governments.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: J.D. Vance, British municipal governments, and patriots raising English and British flags in public places as part of “Operation Raise the Colours.”

📍WHEN & WHERE: Recent weeks across England.

💬KEY QUOTE: “We should push back against the crazies who say we should be so ashamed of our culture and of our heritage that we shouldn’t be willing to fly a flag. It’s craziness.” – J.D. Vance

🎯IMPACT: The debate has intensified over cultural pride and free speech, with councils removing flags and activists urging resistance to such actions.

IN FULL

Vice President J.D. Vance has called on British patriots to “push back against the crazies” who oppose flying the St. George’s Cross flag in public. The Vice President emphasized the importance of cultural pride and heritage amidst criticism of “Operation Raise the Colours,” a grassroots campaign that has seen English and British flags raised in public places across England, from municipal governments.

Hundreds of St. George’s Cross and Union flags have been raised across the United Kingdom in recent weeks, sparking backlash from local politicians. Some councils, including those for Tower Hamlets in London and England’s second city of Birmingham, have moved to pull down the flags, with the municipal government for Essex sending an email to workers claiming the national symbolscan “evoke feelings of discomfort and be associated with anti-immigration rhetoric.” In Bromsgrove, a police investigation has been launched after a St George’s Cross was painted on a mini-roundabout.

“It’s OK to be proud of your country. It’s, in fact, a good thing to be proud of your country,” Vance stated. He also warned against the growing trend of cultural shame, recalling an incident in which a friend of his was afraid to fly the American flag during the Black Lives Matter riots of 2020. “We’ve got to call that craziness out. I’d encourage our European friends to follow suit,” he added.

Vance’s remarks echoed his previously expressed concerns about European censorship, which he outlined in Germany and repeated during a recent visit to the United Kingdom.

2 Sep, 2025 18:38 (OH SHIT, treat us like enemies, you won’t have as much access to our gas.)1/2

Did you notice the EU just lost its gas lifeline? Here’s what you should know

With one deal in Beijing Russia redirected energy flows that had run to the West for fifty years, eastward

The EU’s cheap-gas lifeline just got handed to Beijing instead. With three signatures, Russia, China and Mongolia rerouted half a century of energy history eastward.

On Tuesday, the three countries signed a legally binding memorandum for the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline – a roughly 2,600-km line, at an estimated cost of around $13.6 bn, that will carry 50 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas every year through Mongolia into northern China’s industrial heartland.

While the pricing structure has yet to be fixed, the signatories have effectively redrawn the European energymap.

For decades, this gas was the bedrock of German and Western European industry, piped from Russia’s Yamal fields in the Arctic through Nord Stream 1 directly into Germany. Now, that same supply is being redirected east.

Isn’t there already a pipeline?Yes. Power of Siberia 1, which came online in 2019, snakes east from Yakutia into northeastern China.

What makes this deal different?Power of Siberia 2 is different: it will run a more direct route through Mongolia, which will gain access to the gas, tapping the very Yamal fields in western Siberia that once connected to Germany through the Nord Stream and Yamal-Europe pipelines, as well as transit revenues.

Unlike POS1, which sources Russia’s Asian-facing fields, POS2 will draw gas from Arctic reserves that once fed Europe’s factories. In other words, it closes the chapter of Europe as the main customer for Russian gas and hard-wires China as the new anchor market.

What's the timeline? The memorandum is binding but still vague. Key details such as pricing formulas, financing structures, and construction deadlines have not been finalized. One thing is clear though: once the backbone of EU’s growth, the gas will instead be sent into pipelines running east through Mongolia to China. For Brussels and Berlin, it’s not just a loss of supply but a structural break: the age of cheap Siberian gas for Europe is over.

A whole new energy mapAs well as as the Power of Siberia 2 signing, Moscow also pledged to boost flows on existing lines. POS1 volumes will rise from 38 to 44 billion cubic meters a year – roughly a quarter of what the EU once bought from Russia. Russia’s Far Eastern route, piping gas in from the Sakhalin mega-projects, will rise from 10 to 12 billion cubic meters – about a tenth of what Europe used to purchase from Moscow annually.

But the big figure is Power of Siberia 2: 50 billion cubic meters annually, slightly less than the Nord Stream 1 pipeline once carried into Germany before it was blown up. Add it all together and China will be importing over 100 billion cubic meters of Russian gas every year – volumes comparable to the flows that for decades underpinned Europe’s industrial base.

For the EU, the symbolism is brutal. The same Arctic molecules that drove the post-war boom and kept German factories competitive are now earmarked for China.Article continued…read at RT

What does it mean for the EU?: The EU attempted to cut itself off from Russian supply after 2022, in a rupture that was allegedly tacitly backed by NATO. Since then, the bloc has been forced to buy US LNG at much higher prices than Russian pipeline gas, triggering an energy price crisis across the bloc and helping drive Germany into recession. With Power of Siberia 2 signed, the option of reversing course and reconnecting Europe to Russian gas has effectively vanished.

Beijing’s calculation: For years, Chinese leaders hesitated. Beijing worried about becoming overly dependent on Russian energy and feared a dependency on a neighbor for transit. But something shifted.

Analysts point to two triggers: renewed hostility between the EU and Moscow, which makes the west an unreliable transit for Chinese interests, and US President Donald Trump’s warnings about Chinese access to global LNG markets. In this light, a fixed Siberian line through Mongolia looks like a hedge – long-term, secure, and beyond US interference.

The agreement also lands amid volatility in the Middle East, including the Israel-Iran confrontation, which rattled Beijing’s faith in seaborne LNG. Securing a land-based artery of cheap pipeline gas offers stability at a moment of global flux.

By praising the project as “hard connectivity,” Xi made clear that for Beijing, energy corridors are not just economics but strategy – a way of locking in partnerships and reshaping Eurasia’s balance of power.

The bottom line: The Power of Siberia 2 agreement is more than an energy deal. It is a strategic redirection of Russia’s Arctic gas – from the pipelines that once powered Europe’s prosperity to a single buyer in the east. Europe loses the cheap fuel that underpinned its industrial strength for half a century, and with it any realistic opportunity to recover access to Russian gas in the foreseeable future.

Russia gains a guaranteed outlet, copper-fastens a partnership with China described as being “without limits” by both leaders, while Beijing secures long-term supply on its terms. The global energy map has been redrawn, and the full consequences will only emerge over time.

2 Sep, 2025 18:05The losers always try to rewrite history

Finnish president says country won war with USSR

Alexander Stubb has claimed that despite losing territory in the conflict, Helsinki came out the victor

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has claimed that his country “won” its war against the Soviet Union by preserving independence, despite losing territory in 1944.

In an interview with The Economist, Stubb insisted that maintaining sovereignty in the face of Soviet demands proved Finland’s resilience and should be viewed as a model of survival.

The conflict — fought in two phases, the Winter War of 1939–40 and the Continuation War of 1941–44 — ended with Finland ceding about a tenth of its land, including Karelia, and agreeing to Soviet terms of demilitarisation, reparations and neutrality.

Some Western leaders and commentators have drawn parallels between Finland’s wartime experience and the current conflict in Ukraine, arguing it demonstrates modern Russia’s drive to subjugate its neighbors.

The Russian government has rejected that interpretation. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Finland had allied with Nazi Germany during the Second World War, taking part in the blockade of Leningrad and other atrocities. She noted that Finland only exited the conflict after agreeing to all Soviet demands, including the expulsion of German forces, the payment of reparations, and territorial concessions.

American economist Jeffrey Sachs has also criticized Stubb’s comments and mischaracterizations of the true reasons for the Russo-Finnish war. He stressed that the Soviet Union’s actions in 1939 were motivated by security concerns, as Moscow feared Hitler would invade through Finland to seize Leningrad.

Sachs recalled that Joseph Stalin had even sought a defensive agreement with Helsinki before the fighting broke out. “Stubb is either a fool or profoundly dishonest,” Sachs said, adding that once Finland committed to neutrality after World War II, it entered “the best run imaginable,” becoming one of the world’s richest countries and ranking first globally in self-reported happiness. He argued that neutrality was Finland’s true success.

Russia has repeatedly stated that it has no desire to attack other nations, pointing instead to Kiev’s NATO ambitions and the need for neutrality and denazification as central reasons for the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Israel had ‘total control’ over Congress – Trump

West Jerusalem used to have the “strongest lobby,” but its power has dwindled, the US president has said

Israel previously had “total control” over the US Congress, and it was impossible for someone speaking “badly” of the Jewish state to be in politics, US President Donald Trump has said.

Trump said that in an exclusive interview with the Daily Caller published on Monday, repeatedly stating that Israel used to have the “strongest lobby I’ve ever seen” in the US.

“If you go back 20 years. I mean, I will tell you, Israel had the strongest lobby in Congress of anything or body, or of any company or corporation or state that I’ve ever seen. Israel was the strongest. Today, it doesn’t have that strong a lobby. It’s amazing,” Trump explained.

There was a time where you couldn’t speak bad, if you wanted to be a politician, you couldn’t speak badly [of Israel].

Times have changed, and US politics now has all sorts of critics of Israel, namely “AOC plus three” and “all these lunatics,” Trump added. The US president referred to the so-called ‘Squad’, an informal progressive left-wing faction of the Democratic Caucus in the US House, originally composed of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib, known for their strong anti-Israel stance.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, prompted by a surprise assault on southern Israel mounted by the Palestinian group on October 7, 2023, has further eroded West Jerusalem’s influence in the US, Trump suggested.

“They may be winning the war, but they’re not winning the world of public relations, you know, and it is hurting them,”he said.

At the same time, Trump praised himself for what he had done for Israel, claiming that “nobody has done more” for the country. The US president said Israel was “amazing” since he has been enjoying “good support” from them in return as well.

(Bibi has lost control on our government. YAHOO. I can hardly believe PDJT is saying this out loud.)
