The taming of a gender researcher.

Activists targeted Gordon Guyatt’s promising field

Benjamin Ryanlong article

Last month,Dr. Gordon Guyatt, an authority on medical research, capitulated to a transgender activist mob and undermined his own field in the process. Guyatt, a professor at McMaster University in Canada,co-founded the field of evidence-based medicine in the Nineties. His team has been conducting systematic reviews of the evidence behind gender-transition treatments for youths — and like several other researchers before them, they have found the evidence weak and uncertain.

Yet in response to ferocious pressure from trans activists, Guyatt disavowed his research team’s besieged funder; explicitly denounced the use of his work to justify bans of these controversial interventions; and contradicted his own findings about the evidence base. Given Guyatt’s academic prowess, his recent about-face has stunned critics of pediatric gender medicine. (Guyatt declined my requests for comment.)

Guyatt’s capitulation follows a concerted campaign by transgender activists to smear the trio of systematic reviews that his team recently published, suggesting Left-wing cancel culture still poses a threat to academic freedom and free inquiry where pediatric gender medicine is concerned.

Evidence-based medicine is a revolutionary meta-scientific discipline that has sought to synthesize the analysis of research findings. The goal is to determine the quality of evidence about any particular medical practice, support more precise and transparent treatment guidelines, and ultimately improve clinical decision-making. The legitimacy of the field depends, at least in part, on academics’ independence and detachment from the political fray.

This year, the McMaster team published the first three of five systematic reviews on gender-transition interventions for youths: on puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and gender-transition mastectomies. While the mastectomy review was the first of its kind, the others were but the latest in a solemn parade of suchreviews by researchers across the Western world. McMaster concluded that the evidence in all three treatment areas was weak and uncertain. Similar findings from researchers across the Atlantic have prompted health authorities in a swath of European nations to sharply restrict minors’ access to gender-transition treatments.

Guyatt’s research was funded by the US-based Society of Evidence-Based Gender Medicine, a group founded in 2019 with a mission to scrutinize the scientific evidence backing gender-transition interventions for youths. As determined by academics in a 2024 systematic review commissioned to support the Cass Review of pediatric gender medicine in Britain, this field is sorely lacking for guidelines that pass evidence-based muster. SEGM sought to help fill that void. In 2021, it commissioned the systematic reviews from Guyatt’s team at McMaster; the project was headed by Dr. Romina Brignardello-Peterson, an associate professor of health-research methods.

GOP senators not in rush to consider Lisa Cook replacement on Fed until case resolved

PUBLISHED WED, SEP 3 20253:46

KEY POINTS

• Two Republican senators said that they will not consider a possible replacement for Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook until her lawsuit challenging her firing by President Donald Trump is resolved.

“She is still in the position, she has not had due process yet,” Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., told CNBC.

Sen. Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican member of the Banking committee, also said that he is “not going to consider anybody until that’s been adjudicated.”

Rounds, a member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs committee, refused to say whether he would back a replacement for Cook in committee, noting that it is hypothetical at this point.

“I don’t get to make the decision on what comes up before the committee, so at this point, it’s hypothetical,” he said.

“She is still a member of the board, and you know the president most certainly has the right to try to influence and to lobby, but at this stage of the game, there’s no change in her status.”

Sen. Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican member of the Banking committee, said that he is “not going to consider anybody until that’s been adjudicated.”..

“I’m going to leave it to the courts to decide whether or not it’s legal,” Tillis told Politico.

“But if in fact it is to be for cause, it’s dubious whether or not — even if these events are as they’ve been described — [they’re] a basis for cause,” he continued.

“If it’s a move to really kind of create a partisan divide in the Fed, then I’m against it on that basis.”(it can’t be that she’s a racists that wants to push DEI at the Fed)

As members of the Senate Banking Committee, Tillis and Rounds have important sway over Trump’s Federal Reserve picks. Republicans have a narrow majority on the committee, so they will need unanimous support to advance the president’s eventual pick for the central bank role.

Trump in an unprecedented move last week said he was firing Cook, who was appointed by former President Joe Biden, over allegations of mortgage fraud, claims that her lawyer has since denied.

Cook promptly sued over Trump’s bid to remove her, setting up a legal battle that could ultimately be decided by the Supreme Court.

A court hearing on the matter ended without resolution last week, leaving the future of Cook’s position unclear.

Criminal Senators support Criminal CookI wonder if they’ve done mortgage fraud. The only reason Tillis was not kicked out of Senate was because of the slim majority.

Rep. Buddy Carter plasters Trump all over a new 7-figure ad buy

The longtime Georgia congressmember is one of three candidates vying for Trump’s nod in the GOP Senate primary.

Brakkton Booker09/03/2025, 8:05am ET

Georgia Republican Senate candidate Buddy Carter dropped a new television ad Wednesday, part of a seven-figure blitz that includes the statewide television and streaming spots as well as direct mail aimed at boosting his name ID.

Carter, a fifth-term congressmember, is looking to differentiate himself from a crowded field of candidates to unseat incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff that includes fellow Rep. Mike Collinsand former college football coach Derek Dooley, a political novice hand-picked by Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, who officially endorsed Dooley in next year’s marquee Senate race.

The Carter ad touts him as a “trusted MAGA warrior” and leans fully into culture war issues, including a championing of bans on trans people from girls sports and serving as a staunch ally of President Donald Trump on illegal border crossings. The ad also splices remarks from Trump from a campaign rally in September 2024 in Savannah, where the then-presidential candidate said “Buddy Carter…warrior…great guy.”

The adds also notes Carter has “racked up win after win” while in Washington, including the passage of the Laken Riley Act, a law named after a University of Georgia student slain by a migrant and a bill Collins was a lead sponsor of.

The Georgia Senate contest is expected to be among the most expensive races in next year’s midterms and is a key race for Democrats to hold in a state Trump won last year.

A poll last month from TechnoMetrica Institute of Policy and and Politics showed the contest for the GOP nomination remains relatively tight, with Collins at 27 percent, Carter at 20 percent and Dooley, who launched his bid last month at 8 percent, with nearly 40 percent of Republican voters undecided.

Trump asks Supreme Court to quickly hear appeal to save his tariffs

PUBLISHED WED, SEP 3 20259:12 PM EDTUPDATED 2 HOURS AGO

KEY POINTS

• President Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court to quickly accept and rule on his effort to overturn lower court rulings that found most of his tariffs were not legal.

• Trump has made tariffs on imports from other countries the central plank of his administration’s trade policy.

• The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that Trump overstepped his presidential authority when he implemented the steep levies.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday night asked the Supreme Court to quickly accept and rule on an appeal seeking to overturn lower court decisions that found most of his tariffs are illegal.

The request comes five days after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, in a 7-4 ruling, said that Trump overstepped his authority when he implemented the steep levies on virtually every country.

That decision threw a central pillar of Trump’s trade agenda into doubt.

Trump is asking the Supreme Court to hear arguments on his appeal in early November and issue a final decision on the legality of the disputed tariffs soon afterward, according to filings obtained by NBC News from the plaintiffs in the case.

Normally, the Supreme Court would take as long as early next summer to issue such a decision.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, in a declaration attached to Trump’s request, said the appeals court ruling “gravely undermines the President’s ability to conduct real-world diplomacyand his ability to protect the national security and economy of the United States,” the filing noted.

Filings by Trump also saythat “delaying a ruling until June 2026 could result in a scenario in which $750 billion-$1 trillion in tariffs have already been collected, and unwinding them could cause significant disruption.”

Trump used the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, or IEEPA, to impose steep levies on trading partners, declaring the United States’ federal deficit with other nations a national emergency.

But the appeals court said that “tariffs are a core Congressional power,” not a presidential authority.

“The core Congressional power to impose taxes such as tariffs is vested exclusively in the legislative branch by the Constitution,” the court said.

The appeals court paused its ruling from taking effect until Oct. 14, giving Trump time to ask the Supreme Court to hear his appeal, and the high court to potentially issue an indefinite stay of the decision until it resolves the appeal.

Jeffrey Schwab, senior counsel at the Liberty Justice Center, which represented plaintiffs who successfully sued to block the tariffs, in a statement said: “The government has now asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review this case. Both federal courts that considered the issue agreed that IEEPA does not give the President unchecked tariff authority.”

“We are confident that our legal arguments against the so‑called ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs will ultimately prevail,” Schwab said.

“These unlawful tariffs are inflicting serious harm on small businesses and jeopardizing their survival. We hope for a prompt resolution of this case for our clients.”(of course they are doing this for rich clients and not for the citizens of the country. I’m sure it’s a ton of foreign corps that rip off the U.S.)

Trump Administration Files IEEPA Tariff Appeal to U.S. Supreme Court – Asks for Expedited Review

September 4, 2025 | Sundance |

U.S. Solicitor General D. John Sauer has asked the Supreme Court to accept the case by next week, hear arguments in early November and “expedite” its ultimate ruling “to the maximum extent feasible.” [Appeal Here] with [Expedited Review Request Here]

[SOURCE]

From the request for expedited consideration,

“The en banc FederalCircuit’s erroneous decision has disrupted highly impactful, sensitive, ongoing diplomatic trade negotiations, and cast a pall of legal uncertainty over the President’s efforts to protect our country by preventing an unprecedented economic and foreign-policy crisis,” Sauer notes.

Adding comments from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, “The recent decision by theFederal Circuit is already adversely affecting ongoing negotiations. World leaders are questioning the Presi-dent’s authority to impose tariffs, walking away from or delaying negotiations, and/or imposing a different calculus on their negotiating positions.”

Moreover, “[t]he frameworks for trade agreements already in place contain additional provisions whereby the trade partners agree to significant purchases from and/or in-vestments in the United States.” …

“If these agreed upon frameworks were unwound and the investments and purchases had to be repaid, the economic consequences would be catastrophic.” (more)

At issue is the president’s authority under the International Economic Emergency Powers Act (IEEPA), a 1977 law Trump used to impose baseline tariffs between 10 and 50 percent on goods from countries who do not have Free Trade Agreements with the U.S.

President Trump also declared fentanyl drug shipments a national emergency, providing the administration’s justification for imposing tariffs on Canada, China and Mexico.
