EU state calls out bloc’s ‘hypocrites’ over Russian oil

Many nations “secretly” buy Russian crude via intermediaries while “loudly criticizing” Hungary for its imports, FM Peter Szijjarto has said

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has accused theEU of “hypocrisy” over Russian oil, saying many members criticize Hungary for its imports while quietly buying the crude source through intermediaries.

Szijjarto was asked about US President Donald Trump’s call for west European states to halt Russian oil purchases. Trump, frustrated with slow peace progress in Ukraine, reportedly told Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky and his European backers in a Thursday call that Western European states must stop importing Russian oil. Trump said Russia received €1.1 billion ($1.3 billion) in fuel sales from the EU over the past year.

Szijjarto said Hungary, being landlocked, relies on pipelines for oil and gas, and Russian deliveries remain essential for its supply security.

“Let’s not let the hypocrites mislead us, because among those who are the loudest in criticizing Hungary and Slovakia for their oil purchases, there is a significant number who are also buying Russian oil, only indirectly, through Asia,”he said at a press conference in Budapest on Friday. “They buy Russian oil secretly because it is cheaper. We buy Russian oil openly because we have no other option.”

He also blamed the EU for blocking Hungary’s diversification efforts, saying Brussels had refused its request to expand Southeast European pipeline capacity, while Croatia – Hungary’s southern neighbor – raised transit fees instead of enlarging capacity on an alternative route.

Most EU states cut off direct imports of Russian crude under sanctions imposed over the Ukraine conflict, including a 2023 embargo on seaborne oil and a price cap on Russian crude.Brussels aims to eliminate all Russian energy imports by 2028 under its RePowerEU plan.(that will never happen)

Hungary and Slovakia, both heavily reliant on Russian supplies, have opposed the plan, warning that cutting Moscow’s energy would undermine the bloc’s security and drive up prices.

Both faced criticism from Brussels over continued purchases, though multiple media reports have indicated thatsome EU nations also buy fuel refined from Russian crude in third countries.

Moscow has long argued the bloc is damaging its own economy by cutting Russian energy, forcing itself to turn to more expensive alternatives or indirect imports through intermediaries.

Trump cutting military funding to NATO countries bordering Russia – FT

The US president has insisted European member states spend more on their own defense

The US has begun to phase out foreign funding programs for NATO countries bordering Russiain an effort to push its European alliesto pay for their own security, Financial Times has reported.

Pentagon officials last week told Western European diplomats thatWashington will no longer fund programs aimed at training and equipping the militaries of the bloc’s eastern member states, the outlet wrote on Thursday, citing anonymous officials. (Why were we funding them in the first place?)

Moscow has long insisted that it views eastward NATO expansion, and the military buildup of countries on Russia’s western border as a security threat.

The funding for the Pentagon program needs to be approved by the US Congress, but the White House has not applied for more money, according to FT. The availability of previouslyapproved funds reportedly ends next September.

WesternEuropean diplomats were “startled” by Washington’s move, and worriedwhether their domestic funding could cope with the loss, the outlet wrote.

“It’s causing a lot of concern and uncertainty,” the newspaper cited one diplomat as saying.

The cut corresponds with US President DonaldTrump’s earlier executive action on realigning foreign aid with his ‘America First’ doctrine, FT said, citing a White House official.

“This action has been coordinated with European countries in line with the executive order andthe president’s long-standing emphasis on ensuring Europe takes more responsibility for its own defense,” the official reportedly said.

Under pressure from Trump, European NATO states promised to increase military budgets to 5% of GDP earlier this year. EU governments have also announced large-scale military investments, citing an alleged threat posed by Russia.

Moscow has repeatedly brushed off assertions that it intends to attack the US-led military bloc.

Foreign Minister SergeyLavrov has pointed to the military buildup and Western European leaders’ increasingly bellicose rhetoric, accusing them of steering towards a direct clash.“They are once again trying to prepare Europe for war – not some hybrid war, but a real war against Russia,” he warned in July.

(The US has paying for the security and military, plus, have had 1000s of troops to NATO and Europe since NATO started in 1959 I think. Now all these socialist rich countries can protect themselves. They should be happy Trump didn’t pull the U.S. completely out of NATO. But that’s coming.)

President Putin Notes an Underlying Issue Within Ukraine that Impedes Negotiation

September 6, 2025 | Sundance |

I have often said that Russian dialogue is essentially different from Western dialogue,in that Russian speaking is direct and without pretense. Thisdifference is very visible when outlining positions built on pragmatic acceptances.

Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin was asked about the status of negotiations with Ukraine. President Putin notes some of the internal political issues within Ukraine must be deconflicted in order for discussions to proceed. Without these issues resolved, discussion is futile.

Russian President Vladimir Putin:“First. After all, quite recently, the leadership of the Kyiv regime, mildly speaking unflatteringly of us, and excluded all possibility of direct Contacts. Now we see that they are asking for these contacts, at least Offer.

I have repeatedly said that I am ready for these contacts. At the news conference in Beijing, which you mentioned, I said that there is no point in I don’t see much of it.Why? Because it will be agreed with the Ukrainian side is almost impossible on key issues.

Even if there is a political will, What I doubt is that there are legal and technical difficulties that are that any agreements on territories must be confirmed in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine at a referendum. In order to hold a referendum, martial law must be lifted, Martial law is not carried out. If martial law is lifted, it is necessary to immediately hold presidential elections.

After the referendum, if it is held, regardless of the results, it is necessary to obtain a decision of the Constitutional Court. And the constitutional court does not work, because after requests, as I understand it, to the Constitutional Court about the legitimacy of the current government, the court evaded these decisions, and the head of the regime,He simply ordered the guards not to let the chairman of the Constitutional Court into the working place.

This is the kind of democracy there. And the chairman of the Supreme Court is just sitting in prison on corruption charges. It is well known that Ukraine has enough of this Corruption. But why was it necessary to send the chairman of the supreme court to prison to plant, it is not very clear.Although it is clear that it came to destruction their judicial system as such. This is another of the striking signs of “democracy” current Ukrainian authorities.

Therefore, this endless process is going nowhere. Nevertheless, we said that we are ready for a summit meeting.

Listen, the Ukrainian side wants this meeting and offers this one Meeting. I said: ready, please come, we are definitely completely We will provide working conditions and safety, the guarantee is one hundred percent. But if We are told we want to meet with you, but you go there for this meeting, it seems to me that these are just their excessive requests to us.

I repeat once again: if someone really wants to meet with us, we Ready.The best place for this is the capital of the Russian Federation, the hero city Moscow.” {SOURCE}

Vladimir Putin: “We have an open dialogue with President Trump. There is an agreement that in case of , We can call, contact, and talk to each other.

He knows that I am open to these conversations; And he too – I know about it. But so far, we have not had conversations in Europe based on the results of these consultations. Actually, it was difficult for me to do this, I had just come from China, I’m here. We have no problems with communications here. First.

Secondly, regarding possible military contingents in Ukraine. This is one of the root causes of Ukraine’s involvement in NATO. Therefore, if there are some troops appear, especially now, in the course of hostilities, We proceed from the assumption that these will be legitimate targets for their destruction.

And if solutions are reached that lead to peace, to long-term peace, then I simply do not see any point in them being on the territory of Ukraine, that’s all.

If agreements are reached, let no one doubt that Russia will comply with them in full.We will respect those guarantees security, which, of course, must be worked out both for Russia and for Ukraine. And I repeat once again: of course, Russia will agree to these agreements execute. In any case, no one has discussed this with us on a serious level, that’s all.”

RFK. Jr’s family members say he is a ‘threat’ to Americans’ health and call for his resignation

Sept. 6, 2025

WASHINGTON (AP) — Members of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s family are calling for him to step down as health secretary following a contentious congressional hearing this past week, during which the Trump Cabinet official faced bipartisan questioning about his tumultuous leadership of federal health agencies.

Kennedy’s sister, Kerry Kennedy, and his nephew, Joseph P. Kennedy III, issued scathing statements Friday, calling for him to resign as head of the Health and Human Services Department.

The calls from the prominent Democratic family came a day after Kennedy had to defend his recent efforts to pull back COVID-19 vaccine recommendations and fire high-level officials at the Centers for Disease Control at a three-hour Senate hearing.

“Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a threat to the health and wellbeing of every American,” Joseph P. Kennedy III said in a post on X. The former congressman added: “None of us will be spared the pain he is inflicting.” His aunt echoed those claims, saying “medical decisions belong in the hands of trained and licensed professionals, not incompetent and misguided leadership.”

This is not the first time Kennedy has been the subject of his family’s ire. Several of his relatives had objected to his presidential run in the last campaign, while others wrote to senators earlier this year, calling for them to reject his nomination to be Trump’s health secretary due to views they considered disqualifying on life-saving vaccines.

Kennedy, a longtime leader in the anti-vaccine movement, has spent the last seven months implementing his once-niche, grassroots movement to the highest level of America’s public health system. The sweeping changes to the agencies tasked with public health policy and scientific research have resulted in thousands of layoffs and the remaking of vaccine guidelines.

The moves — some of which contradict assurances he made during his confirmation hearings — have rattled medical groups and officials in several Democratic-led states, which have responded with their own vaccine advice.
