Trump approves UFC Fight on White House South Lawn
President Donald Trump has agreed to host a UFC cage fight on the South Lawn of the White House, UFC Chief Executive Dana White confirmed Friday.
“The White House fight is on,” White announced to his 10.7 million social media followers after meeting with Trump, The Wall Street Journal reported. “We got it done today.”
The event, planned for next summer, will place mixed martial arts in one of the nation’s most iconic settings. Plans call for fireworks, lasers, and thousands of fans, with the UFC’s Octagon set up between the White House and the Washington Monument. Overflow audiences are expected to watch on jumbo screens along the Ellipse and nearby areas.
Trump supporters describe the decision as a bold show of spectacle. White House staff, some displaying UFC memorabilia in their offices, have already been fielding ticket requests from lawmakers and allies.
Trump met with White for about an hour to review logistics, according to people familiar with the talks. His daughter Ivanka, a UFC fan and Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner, joined by phone and is expected to assist with planning.
The event was first proposed for July 4, 2026, during the nation’s 250th birthday celebrations, but scheduling conflicts shifted it to June. UFC is also planning fan activities on the National Mall, including autograph sessions and exhibits. Weigh-ins and a press conference may be held at the Lincoln Memorial, though organizers say details are still being finalized.
“This will be one of the greatest and most historic sports events in history, and President Trump hosting it at the White House is a testament to his vision to celebrate America’s monumental 250th anniversary,” Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said in The Wall Street Journal report.
Trump’s ties to UFC go back nearly 20 years, when his Atlantic City casino hosted events that helped establish the sport’s legitimacy. Since then, he has frequently appeared at fights and remains one of UFC’s most prominent political supporters.
The White House event comes as UFC expands its reach. Last month, Skydance’s Paramount struck a $7.7 billion deal to air select fights on CBS, boosting the sport’s national profile.
