Moar on Rudy re "the hardest I’ve ever been hit" and speculation (à la Michael Hastings) re possible cyber hacking of car that slammed into the back of his car - at a high rate of speed - on an interstate.

“We got hit in the back … the hardest I’ve ever been hit in my whole life,” said the ex-mayor, who said both he and Goodman were wearing seatbelts. He … could barely move … more pain than I ever felt.”

The former mayor said that he had been instructed not to bend, lift or twist for the time being but that doctors were “very confident” he’d heal.

…Giuliani said he was in NH on Saturday to see a minor league baseball game… he was riding along Interstate 93 in a rented Ford Bronco, with spokesperson Ted Goodman behind the wheel, when the vehicle was struck from behind by a Honda HR-V driven by a 19-year-old woman. …Both vehicles hit the highway median and were heavily damaged…"

==-Wondering:==

- Was Guiliani's car going too slow for the interstate, perhaps discussing the bizarre flagging-down experience or maybe just coming off the shoulder - back into traffic?

- Or Was the 19-year-old's car commandeered remotely (…to hit Guiliani harder than he's ever been hit')?

- If cyber-hacked, it would be sadly reminiscent of the contradictions surrounding Michael Hastings' 2013 death at the wheel.*

  • -→ From -Who Killed Michael Hasting- "Early in the morning [June 2013], a brand new Mercedes C250 coupe was driving … [in] Hollywood whensuddenly, out of nowhere, it sped up.[It]accelerated rapidly, bounced several times then fishtailed out of control before it slammed into a palm tree and burst into flames, ejecting its engine some 200 feet away."

"…Hastings’ last article, published on BuzzFeed, exposed Democratic Party leaders including President Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry and Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin for their support of the same domestic spying programs they had criticized during the Bush years, but which they worked to expand under the Obama administration.

"Thestory that Hastings was working on at the time of his death centered around CIA Director John Brennan, … as the administration’spoint man tracking investigative journalists and their sources in Washington.

"An email from Stratfor, a CIA-connected private security firm … reveals thatBrennan was indeed behind the “witch hunts of investigative journalists.”

"The night of his death, Hastings [told multiple colleagues and friends] he was “going off the rada[r],”citing fears overfederal authorities interviewing his friends….

"[H]ours before the deadly crash Hastings had asked to borrow his neighbor’s Volvo because he suspected his own car’s computer system had been hacked.[He died in a brand new Mercedes.]

"Richard Clarke, the counterterrorism chief under both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, told the Huffington Post thatHastings’s crash looked “consistent with a car cyber attack.”

"[…statements from the FBI that Hastings was not under investigation] were directly contradicted in September when redacted FBI documents surfaced following a [FOIA] request … showed that Hastings was in fact under investigation

"What the WikiLeaks documents show is that Hastings’ suspicions about his vehicle could very well have been justified. Meeting notes dated October 2014 show that the CIA identified … “vehicle systems (e.g., VSEP),” likely referring to the embedded computer systems that play a major role in the operation of modern cars….

…"WikiLeaks noted in its release accompanying the documents, “The purpose of such control is not specified, butit would permit the CIA to engage in nearly undetectable assassinations."

FLASHBACK: A year before his 2013 untimely fiery death at the wheel of a speeding car in Hollywood, CA, investigative journalist Michael Hastings' story for Rolling Stone ended up in General Stanley McChrystal being stripped of his command of the conflict in Afghanistan - for disparaging remarks about then-President Obama and other top Obama administration officials.

General David Patraeus was announced as his replacement in Afghanistan the following day.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/jun/24/michael-hastings-general-mcchrystal-article

"The Senate has confirmed General David Petraeus as the new commander of the Afghanistan war in a unanimous vote of 99 to zero. Petraeus was tapped as Afghan war commander after his predecessor, General Stanley McChrystal, was fired over disparaging remarks he made about the Obama administration that were published in a Rolling Stone article. In addition to the widely publicized comments McChrystal and his team made about top officials, including Vice President Joe Biden, Richard Holbrooke and Karl Eikenberry, the articleexposed longstanding disagreements between civilian and military officials over the conduct of the war.

"President Obama announced he was stripping McChrystal of his command last week."

Here is the sauce for a version of the article the late Michael Hastings wrote about General Stanley McChrystal on 2010.

It is dated 3 years before Michael Hastings' death (not one year as previously stated), and resulted in General McChrystal being stripped of his command in Afghanistan.

Below of some of General McChrystal's, and his team's, criticisms of then-President Obama and company.

Sample:

"Even though he had voted for Obama, McChrystal and his new commander in chief failed from the outset to connect. The general first encountered Obama a week after he took office, when the president met with a dozen senior military officials in a room at the Pentagon known as the Tank. According to sources familiar with the meeting, McChrystal thought Obama looked “uncomfortable and intimidated” by the roomful of military brass. Their first one-on-one meeting took place in the Oval Office four months later, after McChrystal got the Afghanistan job, and it didn’t go much better. “It was a 10-minute photo op,” says an adviser to McChrystal. “Obama clearly didn’t know anything about him, who he was. Here’s the guy who’s going to run his fucking war, but he didn’t seem very engaged. The Boss was pretty disappointed.”

…"While McChrystal and his men are in indisputable command of all military aspects of the war, there is no equivalent position on the diplomatic or political side. Instead, an assortment of administration players compete over the Afghan portfolio: U.S. Ambassador Karl Eikenberry, Special Representative to Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke, National Security Advisor Jim Jones and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, not to mention 40 or so other coalition ambassadors and a host of talking heads who try to insert themselves into the mess, from John Kerry to John McCain. This diplomatic incoherence' has effectively allowed McChrystal’s team to call the shots and hampered efforts to build a stable and credible government in Afghanistan. “It jeopardizes the mission,” says Stephen Biddle, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations who supports McChrystal. “The military cannot by itself create governance reform.”''

"…In private, Team McChrystal likes to talk shit about many of Obama’s top people on the diplomatic side. One aide calls Jim Jones, a retired four-star general and veteran of the Cold War, a “clown” who remains “stuck in 1985.” Politicians like McCain and Kerry, says another aide, “turn up, have a meeting with Karzai, criticize him at the airport press conference, then get back for the Sunday talk shows. Frankly, it’s not very helpful.” …

"McChrystal reserves special skepticism for Holbrooke, the official in charge of reintegrating the Taliban. “The Boss says he’s like a wounded animal,” says a member of the general’s team. “Holbrooke keeps hearing rumors that he’s going to get fired, so that makes him dangerous. He’s a brilliant guy, but he just comes in, pulls on a lever, whatever he can grasp onto. But this is COIN, and you can’t just have someone yanking on shit.”

"By far the most crucial – and strained – relationship is between McChrystal and Eikenberry, the U.S. ambassador. According to those close to the two men, Eikenberry – a retired three-star general who served in Afghanistan in 2002 and 2005 – can’t stand that his former subordinate is now calling the shots.

Moar…
