Spotify’s new messaging feature can reveal your identity to complete strangers based on your Spotify link-sharing history.

Spotify’s new messaging feature—which is actually the newest iteration of a social messaging feature the streaming giant killed off in 2017 due to low engagement—wants to give users more control. It features encryption “in transit and at rest,” an option to reject message requests from others, and the option to opt out completely. But anything short of opting out of the feature will inadvertently introduce a doxxing risk by linking you to people with whom you’ve shared music in the past.

First discovered by users on Reddit, Spotify’s messaging feature has the potential to reveal your identity to strangers you’ve shared Spotify links with in the past. If you enjoy being able to share your music tastes with online friends and acquaintances without having to reveal your real name or identity, you might want to steer clear of the messaging feature until Spotify stamps out the bugs. This is especially common for Twitch streamers, who often share a playlist of their favorite songs for their chat denizens to enjoy.

For another example, say you’ve shared a Spotify link in a Discord group. Now, everyone in that group who clicks on the link is connected to you in the eyes of Spotify. This also applies to Spotify links you’ve sent in the past, too. That’s because each Spotify link has a unique suffix attached to it, which the platform uses to conclude that Person A sharing the link must know Person B clicking on the link.

Spotify’s messaging feature’s “suggestions” will then offer you as a possible contact to anyone who has ever clicked on one of your shared Spotify links. From there, users can freely explore your profile, see your name and photo, send you a message, and view a history of Spotify links exchanged between the two of you.

That aspect has the potential for strangers to connect your real-life identity to your more pseudonymous presence on social platforms like Discord, Reddit, or WhatsApp. For now, the simple solution is to opt out of Spotify’s new messaging feature completely, via the app’s settings. But if you still want to retain the functionality, you can always remove any personally identifiable information from your profile.

According to the IDF, security forces are continuing to operate in the West Bank, specifically in the Ramallah area and encircling villages.

The IDF launched a large-scale brigade operation to thwart West Bank terrorism in the Menashe Brigade, alongside searches for the suspects who carried out the attack at the Ramot Junction on Monday morning, the military said.

On Sunday night, the IDF and Border Police operated deep inside the villages in the Marj Sanur Valley area, as well as the Fara'a refugee camp and Kabatiya in the West Bank, aimed at dismantling terrorist activity in the area, the IDF added.

Initial Palestinian reports indicated that one of the two terrorists who carried out the attack was Muthna Omar, 20, whose father was arrested in a recent IDF operation.

Israeli media reported that the other terrorist was named as Muhammed Taha, who, along with Muthna Omar, was a resident of a Palestinian village in the Ramallah area.

According to Walla, one of the terrorists involved was arrested and investigated by the police and subsequently released three months ago.

Reservists from the elite Duvdevan Unit, following intelligence received from the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), arrested a terrorist on Sunday night who had planned terror plots.

Officials in Israel express serious doubts that Hamas will agree to the proposal presented to them in recent days, including the demand for Hamas to release all 48 hostages on the first day of a deal, an Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post.

The US-Israeli proposal suggests that Hamas would release all 48 living hostages, as well as the bodies of deceased hostages, on the first day of a ceasefire. In return, the United States would provide a guarantee that, as long as no agreement on ending the war is reached, Israel would not resume military operations in Gaza.

“Hamas won’t give up all the hostages right at the start - it’s simply unrealistic,” an Israeli official told the Post. “The only question we’re currently asking ourselves is whether this dialogue will lead to another round of talks.”

Behind the scenes, messages continue to be exchanged between Israel, Washington, the mediators, and Hamas. “There is now an intense dialogue that didn’t exist a few weeks ago, and that is an optimistic sign,” said a source familiar with the details. Another source noted that Hamas claims to trust US President Donald Trump’s statements, but releasing all hostages based solely on a promise that the war won’t be renewed is "simply not going to happen."

In addition, Hamas is making it clear that any deal must include a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials have clarified that, at least in the first phase, they are willing to cancel the planned operation to capture Gaza City — and withdraw to the lines of before the initial phase of Operation "Gideon’s Chariots II."

Hamas sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that the ideas currently being presented to them regarding a ceasefire in Gaza contain “many traps and pitfalls that need to be dismantled, so the agreement includes fair conditions that meet the demands of all sides - especially ending the war, which is the central issue for Hamas and the Palestinian factions.”

He shared an image of it on his Instagram page, after it was stencilled on an external wall of the Queen's Building but swiftly hidden by large sheets of black plastic and two metal barriers.

The artwork follows almost 900 people being arrested in central London at Saturday's demonstration supporting banned group Palestine Action, in what is thought to be Britain's biggest ever mass arrest.

Scotland Yard condemned what police called the 'intolerable' abuse of its officers suffered during the rally in Parliament Square, in Westminster, attended by an estimated 1,500 people.

A total of 890 people were detained, with 857 people held made for showing support for the organisation earlier this year proscribed by the Government and then-Home Secretary Yvette Cooper as a terror group.

Now Banksy has offered his response to the ongoing protests which have been held in London and across the country in recent months.

KATHMANDU, Sept 8 (Reuters) - At least 19 people in two cities died on Monday in Nepal's worst unrest in decades, authorities said, as police in the capital fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters trying to storm parliament in anger at a social media shutdown and corruption.

Some of the protesters, most of them young, forced their way into the parliament complex in Kathmandu by breaking through a barricade, a local official said, setting fire to an ambulance and hurling objects at lines of riot police guarding the legislature.

"The police have been firing indiscriminately," one protester told the ANI news agency. "(They) fired bullets which missed me but hit a friend who was standing behind me. He was hit in the hand."

More than 100 people including 28 police personnel were receiving medical treatment for their injuries, police officer Shekhar Khanal told Reuters. Protesters were ferrying the injured to hospital on motorcycles.

A government decision last week to block access to several social media platforms, including Meta Platforms' (META.O), opens new tab Facebook, has fuelled anger among the young. About 90% of Nepal's 30 million people use the internet.

Officials said they imposed the ban because platforms had failed to register with authorities in a crackdown on misuse, including false social media accounts used to spread hate speech and fake news, and commit fraud.

Two of the 19 people were killed when protests in the eastern city of Itahari turned violent, police said.

Home (interior) Minister Ramesh Lekhak resigned from the government after taking "moral responsibility" for the violence, another government minister, who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak with the media, told Reuters.

Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli called an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss the unrest, which erupted after thousands of young people, including many wearing their school or college uniforms, took to the streets earlier on Monday.

Many carried flags and placards with slogans such as "Shut down corruption and not social media," "Unban social media," and "Youths against corruption" as they marched through Kathmandu.

Organisers of the protests, which spread to other cities in the Himalayan country, have called them "demonstrations by Gen Z." They say the protests reflect young people's widespread frustration with the government's perceived lack of action to tackle corruption and boost economic opportunities.

"This is the protest by the new generation in Nepal," another protester told ANI.

Government Towers, Bridges, Airports, Energy: Massive Russian Strikes Disrupt Ukraine’s Rear

While Ukraine’s raids on Russian border infrastructure caused disruption, Moscow’s response was sweeping—igniting the heart of government in Kiev and dismantling critical energy and logistics nodes across the country.

Over the last two days, Ukraine’s attempts to strike deep into Russia included drone attacks on critical infrastructure—pipeline pumping stations in Bryansk and attacks on Russian border settlements.

These raids prompted Russian air-defense responses that reportedly intercepted dozens of fixed-wing UAVs in the early morning hours.

Russia’s counter-strikes, however, were far broader. From evening on September 7 into the early hours of September 8, waves of strike drones, glide bombs (UMPK kits), and ballistic missiles were unleashed across Ukraine.

The most symbolic strike hit Kiev: a blaze engulfed the Cabinet of Ministers building.

Mayor Klitschko confirmed the fire was likely triggered by the downing of a drone—making it the first direct damage to Ukraine’s highest-level civilian authority building.

Beyond politics, the strikes targeted logistics and energy hubs. In Kremenchuk, a “Geran” strike damaged the Kryukov rail bridge over the Dnipro, a key artery linking rail lines and oil infrastructure, causing rerouting and lengthy repairs.

Twenty-five UAVs bombed the substation, coal-feed systems, 250-meter stack, and the main generator hall. Two energy blocks (around 400 MW) were knocked offline, threatening grid stability for multiple Ukrainian regions and forcing emergency load redistribution.

On the front lines, in Kramatorsk, glide bombs hit former ATO command quarters, and near Novodonetske Geran-2s struck the 14th Operational Brigade and Marine Battalion staging areas. Russian reports cite multiple casualties and equipment losses, including armaments, vehicles, generators, and warehouses—degrading Ukraine’s operational reserve and logistical autonomy in Donbas.

Collectively, these actions underscore a methodical Russian campaign: from government nerve centers to energy and logistics hubs, from transportation choke points to frontline reserves. Ukraine’s retaliatory logistics attacks, while disruptive, pale beside the depth, scale, and concentrated focus of Russia’s response. The strikes of September 7–8 show not only symbolic reach but also the ability to systematically dismantle the infrastructure underpinning Ukraine’s defense.

Criminal network forced its victims into sexual exploitation, relying on severe physical violence and threats against their families

Austrian and Colombian law enforcement authorities, supported by Europol, have rescued dozens of Colombian women from violent sexual exploitation in Europe. The raids performed on 5 September 2025 in Medellin, Colombia, saw the arrest of five suspected Colombian human traffickers on international arrest warrants. One Uruguayan man and one Colombian woman were already arrested in August 2025 in Spain, while two Austrian women and a Romanian woman remain detained in Austria. The criminal network headed by an Austrian-Turkish suspect, who at the moment remains at large, exploited its victims by means of coercion, deception, and abusing their vulnerabilities. In many instances, the criminals relied on severe physical violence towards the women, as well as threats against their family members back home.

Over the course of the investigation, dozens of victims that were under control of the network mostly comprised of Colombian nationals were identified. The women were forced into offering sexual services in prostitution rings, with the traffickers advertising and controlling them like merchandise. Each suspect had a distinct role, which ranged from recruiting and luring victims to Austria and other EU Member States, to those transporting, accommodating or offering them for exploitation.

Investigators uncover harrowing individual fates

With investigators uncovering this case, they identified not only suspect after suspect, but also victim after victim. Each with their own backstory, none of them had envisioned the ordeals they faced once arrived in Europe. Generally stemming from an economically dire background, the women soon found themselves trapped in an inescapable stronghold, completely under the traffickers’ control.

The suspects advertised their victims and the services on offer via adult sexual websites. As far as the sexual services to be provided, the women had no choice but to comply, just as they could not refuse a client or a specific request. Negotiations with clients about services and prices were coordinated by call centre agents, while the traffickers made sure the women would comply in person. In order to maximise their influence over the victims, some members of the criminal network were tasked to pose as clients. This allowed them to monitor their victims’ behaviour and to supervise whether the money earned from clients was correctly declared and handed over to their handlers.

Violence and threats against victims and their families

In cases where victims did not comply with the strict rules and expectations set by their traffickers, they were subjected to severe physical violence. These violent attacks were filmed by the criminals, who used the videos to intimidate other victims into compliance. Control over victims was also exercised through acts of violence and threats against their families in Colombia.

In one particular case, this pressure took the most atrocious form of violence, leading to the murder of a former member of the organisation who left the network. This murder took place in Colombia.

People’s Republic of China (PRC) state-sponsored cyber threat actors are targeting

networks globally, including, but not limited to, telecommunications, government,

transportation, lodging, and military infrastructure networks. While these actors focus on

large backbone routers of major telecommunications providers, as well as provider edge

(PE) and customer edge (CE) routers, they also leverage compromised devices and

trusted connections to pivot into other networks. These actors often modify routers to

maintain persistent, long-term access to networks.

This activity partially overlaps with cyber threat actor reporting by the cybersecurity

industry—commonly referred to as Salt Typhoon, OPERATOR PANDA, RedMike,

UNC5807, and GhostEmperor, among others. The authoring agencies are not adopting

a particular commercial naming convention and hereafter refer to those responsible for

the cyber threat activity more generically as “Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) actors”

throughout this advisory. This cluster of cyber threat activity has been observed in the

United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and other areas

globally.

This Cybersecurity Advisory (CSA) includes observations from various government and

industry investigations where the APT actors targeted internal enterprise environments,

OIG Releases Report on Disgraced Former FBI Agent Charles McGonigal and CEFC Investigation Obstruction – Timeline Parallels Biden Family Meeting With CEFC in Ireland

McGonigal, believed to be the Chinese informant known as “One-Eye,” consulted with his Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) presumably a week before McGonigal met with “Person B,” believed to be Dorian Ducka, a former senior Albanian government official and a “conduit” between McGonigal and the CEFC leadership.

The meeting revolved around whether McGonigal should tell “Person B” about the investigation into members of the CEFC leadership and the companies NGO arm, China Energy Fund Committee. The SSA advised McGonigal against disclosing anything regarding the investigation. McGonigal then followed through with the April 10, 2017 meeting with “Person B.”

It wasn’t until June 2017, however, that McGonigal disclosed the FBI investigation into CEFC to “Person B” during a dinner in New York City.

“Person B” took the information directly to Patrick Ho during a scheduled meeting in Washington D.C. “Person B” disclosed that the FBI was targeting Ho and the CEFC, as well as “Target 3,” an Israeli individual believed to be Gal Luft, a dual-citizen with the U.S. and Israel.

In November 2017, James Biden, Joe Biden’s brother, reached out to a retired U.S. Secret Service agent to inquire whether or not there was an existing warrant out for Patrick Ho. According to the OIG report:

Retired USSS Agent-1 provided the FBI case team with an email communication from James Biden to Retired USSS Agent-1 dated November 12, 2017, with the subject line,

“Re new case I need ASAP—I’m in Hong Kong,” followed by, “Have info on an individual I need a background on one specific issue. Very timely. Thanks Jim [phone number]. Please call.” Based on a review of his own telephone records, the Retired USSS Agent-1 told FBI agents that phone calls he had with James Biden between November 12 through 14, 2017, related to this email request. According to the FBI report of its

October 25, 2021 interview of Retired USSS Agent-1, Retired USSS Agent-1 told FBI agents that when he and James Biden discussed the request over the phone, James Biden said that “we have information from China that Ho may be arrested” and that Ho wanted to travel to the United States but was concerned about a potential warrant for his arrest.

The report does not disclose James Biden’s source of the information regarding Ho’s arrest.

On September 9, 2017, McGonigal traveled to Albania and had an unreported meeting with the Albanian Prime Minister arranged and attended by “Person B”.

During the height of the CEFC investigation and leaks from McGonigal to CEFC associates, it is worth mentioning that Hunter Biden traveled to Ireland on September 11th, two days after McGonigal’s meeting with the Albanian Prime Minister.

The purpose of the trip? To meet with a CEFC high-ranking official named Mervyn Yan.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that Israeli forces had demolished 50 high-rise “terror towers” in Gaza in just two days, declaring it a prelude to a major ground assault into Gaza City.

“I promised you days ago that we would bring down Hamas terror towers in Gaza, and that is exactly what we are doing,” Netanyahu said after touring the Air Force command bunker. “In the last 48 hours, 50 such towers have fallen, brought down by the Air Force. And this is just the beginning, only the opening act, for the main ground maneuver of our forces, which are now preparing and massing inside Gaza City.”

He warned civilians still in the city, which he has repeatedly described as Hamas’s last bastion: “I say to the residents of Gaza, listen to me carefully — you have been warned, leave now.”

Palestinian media reported heavy strikes across Gaza City earlier Monday, describing a “fire belt” laid down by Israeli forces. The IDF confirmed it had issued evacuation warnings to residents of several apartment blocks, one of which was later struck twice. Later in the day, the army said it hit the al-Ruwaia building, claiming Hamas fighters had turned it into a hub for intelligence gathering, explosives and observation posts. The army said terrorists operating near the building had used it throughout the war to plan attacks on Israeli troops.

The IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, Col. Avichay Adraee, issued another evacuation notice Monday, telling residents of blocks 783–786 and nearby tent camps to leave immediately. He warned that Israeli strikes were imminent around Gaza City’s Gamal Abdel Nasser Street due to Hamas infrastructure inside or near residential buildings. “For your safety, you must evacuate immediately southward to the humanitarian zone in Khan Younis,” his statement said.

Defense Minister Israel Katz also signaled an escalation, writing on X that “today a mighty hurricane will strike over Gaza City and the rooftops of the terror towers will shake. This is the last warning to the murderers and rapists of Hamas in Gaza and in the luxury hotels abroad: release the hostages and lay down your arms — or Gaza will be destroyed and you will be eliminated.” He added that the IDF was continuing as planned and preparing to expand its maneuver “to bring Gaza to a decisive defeat.”
