Leonard Allan Cure shooting (October 2023): Though not an active Air Force soldier, Leonard Allan Cure, a man exonerated after 16 years of wrongful imprisonment, was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Camden County, Georgia, in October 2023.
Caron Nazario incident (December 2020): In December 2020, Virginia police officers pulled over Army Second Lieutenant Caron Nazario, who was in uniform. Body camera footage showed officers pointing their guns and pepper-spraying Nazario, despite him keeping his hands visible and cooperating. He was not shot, and one of the officers was later fired.
Roman Ducksworth Jr. shooting (1963): In a historical case, Roman Ducksworth Jr., a Black military police officer, was killed by a police officer in Mississippi while home on leave. The officer shot Ducksworth after he fell asleep on a bus.
