Paul Mauser patented the magazine-fed Mauser bolt-action rifle in 1895, Anon. Many bolt-action rifles are Mauser rifles, such as the USA's 1903 Springfield. The USA fought Kaiser Wilhelm while paying patent licensing fees to Paul Mauser. The JFK/Oswald rifle was a bolt action Carcano Model 38 of Italian manufacture. Any magazine-fed bolt-action rifle that uses the Mauser patent could be casually referred to as a 'Mauser'.
